What a week…several things broke and were in need of fixing – three cars in the shop and a trip for two to the urgent care center. We FINALLY had our big inspection / survey at work that we’ve been waiting for since last September (the one that nearly cancelled our vacation). Matt studied hard at school this week. Abby had another of her signature busy weeks – no wonder she’s always so grumpy. Luke, on the other hand, enjoyed another week off from sports. Ann had a good week – for once she was the fastest walker this weekend! I didn’t do much, exercise-wise, so I’ll have to get back in to the routine next week – if my body will allow it. The weather was all over the place – rain, snow, wind, and temps from the teens to the 60s…it’s a wonder we’re all not sick. Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
We returned to work and school on Monday morning. I continued my last-minute prep for TJC then walked an hour after work in the cold drizzle that evening. Poor Black Betty barely made it to work and back, hemorrhaging coolant – so we parked it for the rest of the week until she can get her radiator replaced. We finally heard from Lowe’s – they will deliver the new washer/dryer tomorrow! Luke enjoyed the day off from sports as he continues to decide what he wants to do next. Abby had Pirateers after school, including pictures, and then went on to DDS for technique class. That night I finally called Yahoo to get the blog site back up and running and we had some nasty thunderstorms overnight.
Ann took the day off from work on Tuesday to facilitate getting the washer & dryer installed by the guys from Lowe’s. These guys were on it and had everything done in a snap. I walked 3 miles on a gorgeous evening with intermittent showers. Luke again had the night off. Abby had a long day – she was in early for Student Council then tanned for dance after school before heading to BWR to work until late. Barney’s brakes finally gave out on us and he smells like burning cigarette butts. I sure hope that hub isn’t screwed up too bad. We’re hoping to get it fixed next week. Graciously, Mom let us borrow the Granny mobile until BB gets fixed on Friday. Thanks Memaw!! Here are miscellaneous pictures from this week.
On Wednesday we took the Land Yacht to work – man, it’s got a nice ride. It was our first day of our TJC survey, including the EOC tour that went very, very well. Ann had an After Prom meeting after work then went on to Dixon for jazz class. Luke enjoyed another night off. Abby had Big Brothers / Big Sisters at the elementary during lunch, worked at the dance studio after school, came home briefly to eat dinner with me then went back to DDS for jazz class. It snowed on the way home and continued until after dark. We were left with just a light dusting, but looked cool.
We had a cold start to the day on Thursday with some snow and ice. It was day 2 of our TJC survey at work – including my book review for EOC & EM that went really good. I had a few nerves going but Dennis sat in with me and we killed it – thx buddy! Abby ran around with Mary and went tanning after school then went to tap class at Dixon Dance. Ann & I dropped off Black Betty & she did her Dance Mom thing at DDS with Bu while Luke & I watched the PU / IU game. It was a classic to be sure and it all came down to a huge play where the IU center charged in to Swanigan in the middle of the lane – even Dickie-V saw it that way – except the refs were split – simultaneously, one called a charge while the other called a block. After a 10 minute discussion, they decided on a double foul. To make matters worse, it was both men’s 5th foul so they both were out of the game. Despite that obvious blunder, the Boilers somehow pulled out the W for their 20th victory of the year. We have lots of new social media pictures to share this week: Dick turned 80 – what a great guy; Bu; Ann; Reece; Walt; Cathy; Drake wins again; Barney’s grandkids; Purdue had a great week; McAfee; Cowboys had a great year; Prez Bush; Sabbath played their last show; more Hot Wheels memes; more PU stuff; more Bu; Gigi with the very successful wrestling team; Uncle Dan’s commemorative bench; Mark and his ladies; Metallica played on the Grammy’s tonight; more Hot Wheels goodies; and Abs & Megs.
Friday…oh how it started off with such anticipation but turned sour so quickly. We finished up our excellent Joint Commission survey and Ann & I called it an early day to begin celebrating. We were hopeful to do some sky watching that night – it was a rare trifecta of a full “snow??? moon, a lunar eclipse & an asteroid! Abby & Ann went up to Crawfordsville to see Stacy & Danny and attend Devin’s basketball game and didn’t get back until the wee hours of the morning. They had a great time; sorry we missed it! But that’s where the good stuff ended and the challenges began. We got a call from Acra’s. Seems Black Betty has a few other issues – they found another leak and now apparently needs new tires again, even though these are only a year old. Thankfully Gma & Gigi took care of us and allowed to use the Land Yacht until we get her back. Luke & I went to the YMCA to play basketball again. We were having a great time and were nearly done. I whipped his butt in Around the World, we split a couple games of PIG and he was getting the best of me at 1-on-1 when I jumped for a ball and came down on his size-11 shoes, badly spraining my ankle. I’ve never been in so much pain before. My ankle actually turned so dramatically that it touched the floor. At first I though it broke as I writhed on the floor in pain – Luke laughing heartily at me (little shit). That ruined the evening completely. We had planned to go to ElRep next for a margarita but it was all I could do to walk to the car and drive us home. It swelled like a small grapefruit. It was very hard to walk that evening. Luke took real good care of this old man, getting me drinks and ice for my ankle every half hour or so. And to top things off, it was too cloudy to see all the cool stuff in the sky! What a shit way to start the weekend. I managed to get off the couch a couple times to make a Bloody Mary or two to help ease the pain (Luke even made me one – with a little too much Tabasco – you know it was hot if I thought it was too much!). But I owe him big time for looking out for me.
I had a lot of trouble getting out of bed on Saturday morning. Ann ran to CVS to get me crutches & a compression sleeve which have really helped me to feel a ton better. Luke was up fairly early and went to the woods to build a fort for airsoft battles. He came back with a gash in his toe from a thorn bush. It was pretty nasty so Ann decided to take Luke & I to Prompt Med over in Columbus. Luke ended up with 5 stitches and I got an x-ray on my ankle. The initial report is just a really nasty sprain but we’ll know more on Monday when it is read by a radiologist. I nominated Ann for mother / wife of the year for taking such good care of us. She only got a few hours of sleep. We went out to Ruby Tuesdays for a late lunch and a margarita (finally). We got home just in time to see off Abby & Randall, who were headed out on a Valentine’s date to Fogo de Chão, up in Indy (a very nice, Brazilian steakhouse). Matt ended up at a buddy’s house at IU for the weekend. Ann’s friend Tisa & her husband came over and loaded up our old washer & dryer for their son. We ended up watching movies the rest of the night and stayed inside where it was safe…that is until we heard a big smack on our front window. I went outside and found that some twit had thrown an egg at it and made a big mess. Ann got it cleaned up. We think it was one of Luke’s little buddies from down the street. He grabbed his airsoft gun and went outside to stand guard against a second sneak attack but none came, thankfully. Our neighbors got TP’ed pretty bad, so it could’ve been worse I guess. Megan came over later, followed by Bu & Randall and then eventually Shay. The kids talked with Ann & I for a few then went out on the town for a while before ending back here, watching movies in the family room.
Abby & Ann were up early on Sunday to drive up to Indy. Bu was attending the Colts Cheerleader training camp. I believe there will be others. Although she can’t officially make the team (too young), she can at least get a taste of what to expect should she decide to try out next year or so. Ann couldn’t go in with her so she was “forced??? to shop while waiting on Abs. They didn’t get back until late that night. Meanwhile, Luke & I slowly got around to doing our weekly household chores. We needed to run to the store but found that Ann had taken the keys to the Land Yacht. Gigi saved the day but before she came over, I tried to get Betty White up and running. She desperately needs a battery. I got her running but she died the second she hit the street. So Luke & I had to push her to the curb. I tried a couple times to get her running, but something is amiss and she might need some other TLC to get her up and going. Luke and I watched a couple Star Wars movies and later he had Alex over and we ordered Pizza King to belatedly celebrate National Pizza Day. The girls got home shortly after dark and promptly both fell asleep watching an old movie called Kiss the Girls. We wrapped up the night on a positive note as the Walking Dead returned for season 7’s mid-season premier. …And of course the Talking Dead. :0)

I finally remembered to document the Shit that Luke Says this week. We were in Columbus on Saturday and noticed that he had forgotten to put on deodorant. Needless to say he smelled somewhere between an elephant and that famed ‘teen spirit.’ Even he noticed it and quipped, “It smells like a pepperoni asshole in here!??? Not exactly sure what that means but it made us laugh pretty hard just the same…
Next up is our video section which only features one small family home movie this week but a butt-load of others from around the internet.
And that puts the kibosh on this entry of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks as always for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom.
