Oh man; spring is so close we can taste it – there are birds singing in our front yard, NASCAR is in Daytona, pitchers & catchers have reported to spring training and we actually opened up the house for a little while this weekend. Everything that was broke last week has been fixed now – all our vehicles are back up and working – Black Betty with her new radiator, Barney with his brakes and Betty White with her new battery; Luke is now wearing shoes and is ready to get his stitches taken out and I’m done with the crutches and am back to walking again. Ann’s knees, though, didn’t have a very good week (and don’t tell her – but it may have made her a little bit grumpy – ssh!). Abby was busy as usual, culminating with her attending the Winter Formal. And Ann FINALLY made an appointment for the dogs to get their hair cut! Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
Mon started off cold with frost on the car windows and temps only in the 20s as we headed back to work and school. Abby attended SAT-prep class after school then went on to technique class at DDS. Luke went with Gma after school then had her run him back to GJHS to watch the girls’ basketball game. I walked for about an hour after work then iced my ankle at home all night. Abby & Ann figured out that the weekend for the SAT is also a dance competition weekend, which could make things interesting and very stressful for our little Bu. Abby wants to get t-shirts for our concert this fall and sent me some shirt ideas…I’m thinking that cool JBLZE shirt, personally…but there are also some great Foreigner and Cheap Trick tees as well. Here are a few random pictures from this week.
Tuesday had another cool start in the 30s but started a warming trend and we eventually saw the mid-fifties again today. Abby headed in to school early for Student Council so we took Luke to school. The drop-off area at the junior high is such a cluster f*%k. The traffic flow is backwards as you have to cross traffic twice – once going in to the circle and then once coming out. Ann had a great idea about how to solve the traffic flow issue – have cars go in on the near side of the circle and go around the circle counter-clockwise and come out the other side. I would even extend a curb or a short wall out in to the street, slightly – and have two lanes coming on that one-way street with the left lane having to turn in to the school and the right lane going straight – granted, it would cut down on the some of the street parking after a certain point, but it would sure free up that traffic. At least in our opinion, it’s an accident waiting to happen as it is now. Luke gave Maggie her Valentine’s Day gifts. I walked about 2 ½ miles after work then iced my foot again at home. Luke had Drew over after school “to do homework??? – ya right… Abby worked at BWR all night after school then did homework at Emma’s house until late. Ann & I picked up Black Betty and took back the Land Yacht. Thanks ladies!! We owe you a nice night out. Ann made taco salad for dinner that really hit the spot that night. We watched Purdue play a surprisingly tough Rutgers team at Mackey and came out with another win to make things very interesting at the top of the Big Ten standings.
Wednesday was a cool day in low 40s and real breezy. Luke focused on school only and enjoyed a quiet night afterward. Abby went out with her buddy Cody then went on to Dixon to work and then have jazz class. Ann went out to dinner with Shawna then went on to the dance studio to do her Dance Mom thing. I walked a few miles after work then iced my ankle all night on the couch again. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week: Bu, Lynz & fam; Abs & Colts Cheerleader hopefuls; Keith & Rose’s anniversary was this week; the wrestling team sent 5 to semi-state and one qualified for state; Emma (Phyllis & Dick’s grand daughter); Mark & son; Metallica at the Grammy’s and announced a new world tour; Al Jarreau died this week; the Reds traded all-star 2nd baseman and fan favorite Brandon Phillips; some pop culture stuff; lots of Hot Wheels stuff; Scheu family; tees from Abby; Wayne & Shannon; Bu and friends; Uncle John; Brent & his new car; and UHS reached another milestone.
We had a pretty day on Thursday. It was a long day at work for us both. Luke enjoyed another night off, continuing to let his toe heal. Abby had Pirateers after school then went on to technique class and tap class at Dixon. Ann struggled with her knees as she did her Dance Mom role at DDS that night. I walked a little over a mile after I got out of my “Marathon Meeting??? day then iced my ankle all night.
We had a beautiful day on Friday as temps soared in to the 60s and the sun played a prominent role in our day. Matt came home early and spent time with Gma before heading in to work at Aspen Place. Ann & I left early from work after a long week and went to lunch at Texas Roadhouse. Luke & I cleaned the Pacifica top to bottom for a few hours in prep for Abby to take her that night. Ann & Abby went to Columbus for Abby’s hair stylist appt. Megan & Britney came over to help Bu get ready with Megan doing Abs’ makeup. We had a bunch of Abby’s friends over for photos, joined by a few parents. We saw Abby and her friends off to the Winter Formal. Once Matt got off work, Ann & I took the boys to ElRep for dinner and a margarita. We came home and watched Dr. Strange till we fell asleep. Megan came over later and spent the night with Abby.
Matt was up early on Saturday morning and off to Indy for the wrestling state finals. He ended up staying up at school after getting out of the event so late. Abby & Ann were right behind him, on their way to Indy for dress shopping. Ann came home and Abby went out with Kuyhlia to do some bridesmaids stuff. Luke & I fixed the truck, grabbed takeout, played a little basketball (just one game of Around the World) and then watched Purdue win another big game. The girls came back and took naps until after dark. I ended up falling asleep on the couch and turned in early, missing the big Oldie Weds Game II event at the Sunken Boat Bar. Abby went out for a little while with Megan then came home early and turned in early as well.
We enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday…till work started calling. We slowly got up and did our weekly household chores. Ann made eggs, bacon & hash browns for breakfast took a nap then made Cajun chicken pasta for dinner. Matt worked the early shift then came home in the mid-afternoon to hang out a couple hours, eat dinner, visit for a little while, then headed over to see Memaw & Gigi before heading back up to school to study for a big math test tomorrow. Abby worked this morning and got home just in time for dinner. She ended up going out for a little while with her friend, Colton, for a little while. He officially asked her to the Prom and she accepted. Luke chilled all day, resting his toe and had Alex over for a while that evening. He’s so ready to get back to his normal routine. He’s only got a couple more days to go now. We watched the first Daytona race, some MMA and got caught up on our DVR, taking it easy and even nodding off a couple times until the Walking Dead aired – a nice way to wrap up the week.
Next up is our Waybac section which continues to include pictures from our family photo albums labeled 7 through 12, which highlights our days in our Main St home. We lead off this week with Ann’s bday party in January 1999 on Main St; our annual Easter Egg hunt on Main St in April 1999; Matt’s YMCA t-ball game out at the high school where the Fieldhouse now stands in June 1999; Christmas morning on Main St in December 1999; me feeding Abby on Main St in April 2000; me with Matt & Bu in the Gulf of Mexico in Treasure Island in May 2000; Matt & I at the fair when he was entered in the frog-jumping contest…he didn’t win and then later Matt up in Rossville with Dad & Mo – all in July 2000; then more Mo in Rossville in September 2000; Abby & Memaw at the YMCA for Halloween fun in October 2000; then on to Mom & Sandy’s house in the Ryle Addition on Christmas Eve in December 2000; Matt’s bday party at Chuck E Cheese in Columbus in March 2001; and finally riding the Dinosaur ride at Walt Disney World in May 2004 – I love Abby pulling up her shirt to hide!! :0).
And we wrap up this installment with our video section which includes one new family movie this week and several from around the internet.
And that does it for this week’s episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya Mom.
