It’s just a Spring Clean for the May Queen

We’ve enjoyed an exciting week, here at the Scheu abode. Matt finished up his first senior year at U Indy and came home for the summer. We got to meet Ms. Taylor, who seems very sweet. Abby continued to wind down her high school dance career as she had pictures along with classes this week. Pictures are a sure sign that the year is nearly done. She attended her senior prom with Trevin and was received a big surprise! Luke continued to be a two-sport athlete with baseball practices, track practices and a track meet this week. Ann’s hard work culminated with her After-Prom at the Fieldhouse this weekend. It was a huge success and she received numerous compliments again this year. She had a smaller team this year behind the scenes, but they did a great job! It is a labor of love for Ann, organizing this shindig every year, but she pays the price for it as she can barely move as I write this entry today. I feel old as we are about to embark on a time period where we have two kids in college and one in high school. The next time we’ll have one in junior high will be as a grandchild – yikes! Despite the busy schedule, I was able to get in nearly 21 miles of walking this week. I was bummed to hear that I missed the annual mini marathon in Indy as I would love to try and walk it one of these years. I’m hoping I can do the Columbus one this year; as I’d really like to challenge myself to accomplish this distance. I hit the 30-pound milestone of my diet this week. Don’t get me wrong; I’m still a lard-ass, but I’ve noticed little things like being able to fit into the booths at El Reparo w/o having to move the table, which is pretty cool! The results of this diet are a little slower than I’d like, but I’m getting there. I’m almost to the halfway mark of my goal… Dad & Lynn made it back up to Jersey safely, riding a cool train that also brought their car as well! This is the start of their busy season as they visit lots of family this spring. We still haven’t seen Ms. Phyllis but hope we can see her soon – we miss those Hellmichs… Speaking of Spring; seems we missed ours again this year. This week it went from winter to summer. It was just last week we were having frost warnings and now this week, we had the windows open and the fans running. We don’t even have the crawl spaces open yet. Hello again and welcome to the latest entry of the Scheu Family Blog.

It was a cool start to the week as we returned to work and school. Luke had track practice. After school, Abby & Ann went to Dixon for the night for dance pictures and practice. I walked a 5K on a gorgeous afternoon. I wish every day could be like that! When we got back in to town, Luke & I had baseball practice out on diamond 1 at the complex. I was thrilled to see Stargate SG-1 return to TV that night (thanks Comet!), so of course we (by which I mean me with Ann sleeping) watched the first five episodes of the series this week. As promised, here are the rest of the Show Stopper pictures from Breach Grove – Abby’s final Regional dance competition.

Luke had detention after school on Tuesday due to jacking around in class with Drew too much last week then went on to track practice. As he knows, if he gets in trouble at school, he also gets in trouble at home. He lost his phone and PS4 when he got home that night. Abby did not go into work after school so that she could attend Senior Night at Trevin’s varsity track meet. Ann worked on After Prom stuff and graduation announcements when we got home from work. After a fast day at work, I walked a 5K on a hot, 85-degree afternoon. Bryan, Matt & I had a coaches meeting at the Sunken Boat Bar that night. We now have a pitching rotation, a batting order and some ideas on our defense, so things are coming together for our young team. But we have a lot of work to do…

Luke went to track practice after school on Wednesday. Abby & Ann had tap and jazz classes at DDS that evening. I got in another 5K in the nearly-90-degree heat that afternoon. Luke & I had baseball practice with Bryan & Drew that evening on diamond 1. We worked on batting but still have a long way to go. Here are pictures from Abby’s Senior Trip to Chicago last week.

On Thursday, it rained mid-morning but cleared up in time for me to walk another 5K after a long day at work on a humid but dry afternoon. Ann & I left Columbus early to attend Luke’s track meet vs. Jennings County. He participated in the same four events again that night: discus – 4th (75’), high jump – 2nd (4’ 10???), shot put – 2nd (41’ 2???), and 4 x 100 relay – 1st (51 seconds). We’ll have pictures from tonight in next week’s blog. Abby went to Trevin’s for dinner on his 18th birthday. Luke & I grabbed drive thru for a quick dinner then watched DVR’ed shows. Here are pictures from Luke’s track meet last week vs. rival Batesville.

Ann had the day off on Friday, which was May the Fourth (Be With You) to begin decorating the Fieldhouse for After Prom. Luke enjoyed a rare day off from sports. Abby & Trevin went to prom dinner with their friends to the Eagle’s Nest, which is a rotating restaurant at the top of the Hyatt Regency (way cool!). The four of them stopped for pictures at the Fieldhouse and Gigi hooked Bu up with the Escape! Thanks Gigi! Matt took Taylor out for their 1st lunch date to a nice Italian restaurant in Indy called Iozzo’s Garden of Italy. I left work early to come help Ann setup at After Prom. This year’s theme is “Vintage Carnival.??? We’ll have lots of pictures next week. The kids looked good all dressed up for dinner. I walked the 5K track at the high school on another gorgeous day, up around 80 degrees. Matt came home for the summer after his last final exam that night then went out to dinner with his buddies at ElRep. Luke & I grabbed drive through for a quick bite and then he drove solo for the first time as we picked up Abby’s car at Memaw & Gigi’s and he drove it home. Way to go, Dukester! Ann came home fairly early as compared to years’ past, worn out from her long day. Here are some random pictures from our recent adventures.

Ann was up early on Saturday to get the Fieldhouse inspected by the Fire Marshal…they passed with flying colors. Luke & I had baseball practice out at the complex with Bryan, Drew and our new Marlins team. Luke was supposed to puppy-sit for Gma & Gigi, but Jamie did it instead, which allowed Luke to go with Matt up to Indy to get more stuff out of his apartment and move it home. Ann went with Abby to Columbus all day to get her hair & makeup done for Prom. I wrote out bills and when Luke got home, we went over to Mom & Sandy’s and mowed / trimmed their lawn. We got home and quickly began working on our lawn. Thanks to Luke for finishing up the back yard as I had to jump in the shower when people started showing up at our house to get pictures of the kids. We got to meet Taylor, who was as cool as advertised. Trevin’s mom and dad came over and Memaw, Gigi, Dee & Pixie also came out to see Ms. Abigail off. We did family pictures out in the front yard then went to the neighborhood behind us to the West’s for more pictures before the kids went off to see other friends and get more pictures on their way to the big event. Luke went out to Oakley’s house to spend the night. Matt, Taylor & I went to ElRep to grab a bite to eat on Cinco de Mayo. Ann went back to the Fieldhouse for last-minute preparations. I ran out to Bryan & Angie’s to borrow a pair of flood lights (thx guys!). After dinner, we met up with Ann and the Messers at the Elementary to watch the kids walk in to Prom. Abby & Trevin got to drive a late model red, convertible Mercedes Benz. Thanks to Britney & her mom for the last-minute rescue after the Crossfire broke down yesterday. Matt & Taylor went back to the house while Ann & I did a couple late-minute prep things before her open house for the public. When I finished, I went for a 3-mile, twilight walk in the park and then did some grocery shopping at Walmart before heading home. Matt went back out to the Fieldhouse to help Ann at After Prom while Ms. Taylor drove back home. Abby & Trevin came home to change clothes and I learned that Abs had been named Prom Queen! Way to go, Bu!! They said they had a lot of fun and were looking forward to heading back out to school to join up with Ann & Matt at the After-Prom event. I enjoyed a quiet night with the dogs, watching the taped NASCAR races until late. After being up nearly 24 hours, Ann finally made to bed about 530 or so in the morning. She said it went very well with no drama. We will have a ton of pictures from today’s fun in next week’s blog… For now, we have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

After only an hour or so of sleep, Ms. Ann was right back up to go open-up the Fieldhouse on a cool Sunday morning so the vendors could come get all their stuff moved out. She came home and took a nap for a couple hours. That allowed me to get started on our weekly household chores. We were all asleep when Abby called, wanting to be picked up from Trevin’s house, where she had stayed the night. She & Matt went out for lunch and woke up Ann so we could join them for lunch at El Reparo. I got Abs one of their Cinco de Mayo t-shirts, as she was wondering why Matt got one yesterday and she didn’t! I checked the fluids in all five vehicles and went out and got Luke from the Bests’ house. Abby went in to work and Matt napped all afternoon after he & enjoyed a couple margaritas at lunch. Ann & the Wests went back out to the Fieldhouse to finish the clean-up and return some items. She & I returned the Escape to Gigi on a warm, summer day. Unfortunately, the sun didn’t last as a cold front blew through and dropped a little rain on us. It remained mostly cloudy the rest of the day as we all took naps until the early evening. We took it easy the rest of the night as the boys played video games in the family room while Ann & I watched Fear and Talking Dead. I turned in early so I could be up at the ass-crack of dawn tomorrow in order to cook omelets for the staff to kick off Nursing Week.

Next up is our Waybac section, which continues to feature the last several pix from our next three family photo albums of our young family in the new century…with a few new pictures of Mom. We lead off this week with Mom & Moe in Rossville, decorating the house on the hill for Christmas in December 2001; next we move on to May 2002 for our big Florida vacation at Walt Disney World – first in Downtown Disney, then on Main St in Magic Kingdom, and a character dinner at the Polynesian; next we move on to December 2002: Bryan Family Christmas at Vird & Belinda’s, Christmas Day in Ryle, Christmas lunch on Main St., Dee & Chad’s bday party, and Scheu Family Christmas in Buck Creek with Dad & Barb; and finally, January 2003: Monster Jam in Indy, Matt & Abby in their “nightgowns??? and then playing around the house during Christmas vacation.
