Scheumann Family 2007
The Year in Review
This is for all of
our friends and family, with whom it seems we have less and less time to spend
together. Here is a time capsule from our life this past year. Hope
you enjoy it. We would love to hear from you. A link to email is at
the bottom… You may choose to click on a picture to enlarge it or
even right click and “Save Target As…” to save the picture in

In January, we
celebrated Ann’s birthday. We won’t say which one! J We
attended the Monster Jam (notice the local boy truck, driving “Bob &
Tom!”). Luke was in awe and still plays with his trucks
frequently! We actually had some snow this year! We weren’t
sure if we would get any significant snow fall, but for a few weeks we had a
winter wonderland – enjoying snow ball fights, sledding and building a
snowman… Meanwhile, Ann was busy indoors. She had the floors
replaced in the living room, kitchen and hallways.

In February, Matt was
involved in 5th grade basketball and continued to take drum
lessons. Abby played basketball at the YMCA and continued to take dance
lessons in tap and jazz. Sandy announced
that she was running for mayor of Greensburg!
Luke was becoming more independent, getting up in the middle of the night and
helping himself to pop tarts, putting them in the toaster and easting them at 3
am! We busted him one night… Meanwhile, Ann continued doing
upgrades inside the house, as she had her kitchen redecorated.

In March, Matt
celebrated his 11th birthday. He continued to play
basketball. Although they struggled during the season, they turned it on
in the tourney, losing by only 1 point in the finals! He also performed
in a local concert entitled, “An Evening to Die For” –
sitting in on drums for a take on Steve Earle’s “Copperhead Road.” Also
appearing that night was national recording artist Michael Kelsey and fellow
Greensburg Guitar & Music students. Matt and Tom attended the WWE
event, “Monday Night Raw” and briefly made it on to national
TV! Matt also did his annual science project (a first place finish!!!),
with which the entire family helped. We took the kids to see Sesame
Street Live. Lukey was mesmerized at seeing his buddy Elmo! Ann continued
to improve our home’s interior, by redecorating Abby’s room.

In April, Abby began
playing softball. Tom helped coach her team. We attended a magic
show that was pretty cool. Tom helped chaperone Matt’s spelunking
adventure to Marengo Cave in KY for school. Matt and Tom went to The
Great American Ballpark for MLB’s opening weekend
series in Cincinnati with Chad and Grace. Chad
hooked us up with a luxury suite that had all the amenities! We got to
watch Ken Griffey, Jr. and meet Mr. Redlegs. There was myriad food and
beverages, along with a desert-and-shot cart that came during the seventh
inning stretch! J We were sure glad we were able to go indoors, since
it began snowing during the 5th inning! Sandy
continued to campaign for mayor of Greensburg,
participating in public speeches and taking part in a debate that was aired on
the radio. The family was heavily involved in helping to promote Sandy’s campaign and
was very busy with her during this month! You can read more about Sandy’s mayoral run
and see lots of great pictures of us all at www.greensburgmatters.com .
Matt again earned a spot on the Greensburg Spell Bowl team. Although the
team struggled, Matt scored a respectable 5-for-8! For Easter, we
decorated Easter Eggs and had an indoors hunt that morning. We then went
to Church and had a huge family-style lunch with all the trimmings at Grandma
and Gigi’s house. The home improvements kept coming this month, as
we had a new garage door installed.

In May, the primary
ended and so did Sandy’s
run. We are still very proud of her for her efforts! Abby continued
playing softball. Matt began playing baseball, moving up to Little
League. Tom helped coach the team. Abby’s dance classes
culminated in the Dixon Dance Revue, where she had two performances. She
tapped to “Do You Believe in Magic” and jazzed to
“Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.” She earned
runner up honors for Little Miss Personality! We enjoyed the warm-up of
the weather and had a picnic at the park on the new walking bridge that was
installed over the winter.

In June, we
celebrated Luke’s 4th birthday and he played constantly with
his two best friends: Alex and his Power Wheels Chevy pickup truck!
He had a Spiderman party and we indulged in Spider Wars in the living
room! J
Luke began playing T-ball at the Y, with Tom as their coach. They
were so funny to watch! Luke is a natural and could hit the ball harder
and farther than anyone else on his team. Thanks to his big brother and
sister, he has advanced skills for just turning four years old. Abby
continued to play softball and Matt continued to play baseball. Needless
to say, we got to know the ball diamonds very, very well this month! The
kids got out of school, but not before receiving some special honors.
Both Matt & Abby achieved the Honor Roll! It was unusually warm for
June and it was during this time that we opened the pool! Ann’s
work rented out the Children’s Museum one night, which was really
neat. Luke loved the dinosaur exhibit, Matt was thrilled with the
space exhibit and Abby thought the full-size replica of the Indy car was
the coolest! Matt had fun showing Grandpaw & Grandmaw Bryan how to
play Nintendo Wii bowling! Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? J Luke also learned how to ride his bike, although Tom
did have to engineer an old pair of training wheels onto it…

During July, we hit
the pool pretty hard. The kids were all in the 4th of July
parade again this year, with Lukey driving his Chevy truck, Matt riding his
Stingray and Abby helping Grandma walk the puppies - while Sandy broadcast the
event over the radio. We had our annual Fourth of July party again this
year. Tom got a new stainless steel grill to kickoff the event! We
swam, cooked out on the grill, and played corn hole and volleyball. Chad
and Tom again dominated the corn hole tourney play. Matt’s best
friend Brayton and his parents (our good friends Mike & Natalie) were down
- along with their other two kids. As the day progressed, the weather
didn’t want to cooperate with us and it didn’t look like we would
be able to get in many fireworks, as it stormed pretty hard in the early
evening. However, it did hold off and it was the best display yet!
Sadly, it may be our last…as the field behind us began being developed as
a new housing edition…L…which
caused a ton of dirt to be in the air every day, and land in our pool every
night! Matt and Tom had their hands full trying to keep it clean this
season. Keith, Rosie and Megan came in from New York this year, which made it extra
special that all the grandkids could be together again. Sadly, we never
got the kids in the same frame for the annual grandkids photo – we’ll
have to work on that during the upcoming holidays! Matt caught Sandy in the height race
this month. The fair came to town shortly after Independence Day.
We spent many evenings out at the fairgrounds - riding rides, seeing the
animals and eating the yummy fair food. The kids again sat in the back of
Tom’s truck (parked in the lawn of WTRE) to catch candy during the fair
parade down Park Road
and came home with a shopping bag full of treats! Later that day, Sandy electrified the
crowd in the grandstands by singing with Mark’s band. We were very
proud of her!

In August, the kids
went back to school. Matt started 6th grade at the Jr. High,
Abby began 2nd grade at the Elementary school and Luke went to
pre-school at the YMCA. Matt and Tom attended a local pro wrestling event
at the old armory in town. It didn’t quite measure up to the WWE
athletes they witnessed earlier in the year at the Conseco Fieldhouse…but
it was still fun. Matt especially enjoyed heckling the “bad
guy” wrestlers up close. Abby played soccer again this year.
Tom co-coached the team. Matt began playing football. This month
also saw us take our annual family vacation. This year, we decided to
stay close to home, since the kids were already involved in sports. We
took day trips to the Indy Zoo, the State
Museum, Six Flags
Kentucky Kingdom
and topped it off with a trip to Holiday World / Splashin’
Surfari! The kids got to feed a giraffe and pet
sharks at the zoo! We also had our first “camp out” in the
back yard. I don’t know if Tom will be able to do that again with
out an air mattress! J

In September, we
celebrated Abby’s 8th birthday. She had two parties
– one with family and close friends and the other with her girlfriends
and classmates (a karaoke party!). Abby continued to play soccer and
participated in the annual “Punt, Pass & Kick” event. She
took home 2nd place overall in her age bracket! We are very
proud of her, as she works hard at improving herself each practice. Abby
also began taking dance classes, again choosing to take on tap and jazz.
Her tap class will be a competition team this year! Matt continued to
play football, earning a starting spot at defensive tackle and beginning to
take snaps on the offensive side as well at the tackle position. We
traveled in Grandma and Gigi’s motor home for Matt’s first game and
tailgated before it got started. This was the first of what we hope will
become a tradition in the coming years! While the ladies were away at
scrapbook activities one day, Tom took the boys to the park for some
R&R. Abby took part in a cheerleading clinic and got to cheer during
the varsity homecoming football game one Friday night. As a possible
precursor of things to come; as Abby cheered, Matt took the field with his
football team during halftime for a quick scrimmage. Grandpaw & Grandmaw
Bryan were on hand for the action, as well as Grandma
Owens and Gigi. The family was very proud of those two and hoped to one
day see it played out once more in a few years… Tom earned Employee
of The Month for a record third time at his work. During the Tree City
Fall Festival concert on the courthouse lawn, Abby got up on stage and sang
with the headlining act, a Beatles tribute band. Unfortunately, Abby
didn’t know the lyrics, but looked great just the same! J

In October, we
celebrated Tom’s birthday. Only one more year of “livin’ young” until the big 4-0 hits!
Matt is still playing football (easily the longest season of our year!).
He is now playing both ways, on the offensive and defensive line. We are
very proud of how quickly he has caught on during his first year of
football. Matt continues to take drum lessons. The family attended
Abby’s Family Fun Night at school, where her class sang a few songs
before we ate dinner and played games. She continued to take tap and jazz
dance lessons. Ann again helped her best friend Amy facilitate her annual
Halloween party. Abby also attended and enjoyed games, crafts and lots of
food! We took the kids to the pumpkin patch again this year. Who
would have thought we could have so much fun in a field of gourds? Ann
and the kids decorated the front of the house in an autumn motif. We
carved pumpkins and went Trick-or-Treating in the neighborhood, bringing home
lots of candy! Luke dressed as Spiderman and Abby was a pirate.
Matt decided he was too old to dress up, but not too old to ask the neighbors
for candy! J
Many of the kids’ friends came out to the neighborhood this year,
making it especially enjoyable…and the weather was perfect!

For her birthday, the
girls fulfilled one of MaryAnn’s long-time dreams by treating her to a
long weekend when they surprised her with a trip to Nashville to see the Radio City Rockettes at the Grand Ole Opry in TN. One night
during their trip, they got to go on a horse and carriage ride – the
highlight was when the horse passed a big “toot” and the little boy
who was helping to drive the carriage let us know that it was Hank the horse
and not him! J Matt finished playing football, as his team ended the
season by defeating the Greensburg A1 team in overtime to capture the Mid
Southern A-League Youth Football championship! The weather has gotten
very cold and it became a challenge to sit through the final few games!
Matt continues to play drums and Abby continues to take both of her dance
classes. Abby brought home straight A’s on her report card!
Luke was the leader at Preschool and was treated with visits from Tom on one
day and MaryAnn and Sandy on Grandparents’ Day. We took our annual
pilgrimage to the courthouse to take a Gigi a Diet Coke during her elections
broadcast. Around the house, we finished winterizing the outside by
raking up the leaves and jumping in the piles! Inside, the air has been
filled with the sounds of the piano, as all three kids have taken an interest
in it. Matt has become very good. We also picked up “Mount Toymore” – the
never ending toy pile in the play room! We finally decided to clean it
out and keep only the toys they actually played with…lately, the kids
have really been in to the Geotrax train system and
spend hours each night setting it up. Keith, Rosie and Megan came home
for Thanksgiving and to celebrate Christmas. MaryAnn and Sandy prepared a
wonderful meal, with help from Chad
and Keith – who made a deep fried turkey! We spent a lot of time
visiting with Keith & Rosie, watching the Cowboys and Colts win, exchanging
presents…and we remembered to get our annual grandchild picture at
grandma’s house (we forgot last year!). We also had the family
pictures taken at Artistic Studio again and the girls did a great job –
especially considering our crew! J Actually, the kids did pretty good…but quickly
broke down in to wrestling matches frequently…so they went with it!
J You
can see the end product below...and can follow the link below to see the
complete set of pictures from that photo shoot! Finally; Ann and Amy
again braved Black Friday this year - actually leaving before midnight, wearing
hideous headgear, hitting a dear and staying out for 18 straight hours of
shopping and fighting crowds!! Now that’s dedication…

What a
whirlwind way to wind up the year! During the month of December, we took
the kids (as well as Grandma and Gigi) to Connersville
to catch the Polar Express! The train took us to pick up Santa at the
North Pole and then he rode back with us, meeting all the kids. It was
pretty cool, as this was the first time on a train for everyone except the two
elders. We had to snuggle up with blankets, as it was very, very cold
that night with no heat on the train. So besides meeting Santa, our
favorite part was getting the hot choc-o-lot! J The next day, Ann and Abby
took their good friends Amy and Bailey to Conseco Field House in Indy to see
Disney’s High School Musical on Ice. We attended both of
Ann’s work parties: “Cookies with Santa” (for all the
patients who gave birth that year) early in the day, followed by the annual
employee party with the White Elephant gift exchange. It was again
catered this year by our good friend Allen Smith. As usual, we had a
great time that night…but Ann was not as lucky as last year…as none
of her employees gave her a lap dance! LOL! Lukey and Abby were
thrilled to meet Santa again during the cookie party. Luke again asked
for nothing more than a flashlight and workbench (that’s my boy!) from
Santa. Abby, on the other hand, had no less than 42 items on her
list! Unfortunately, she completely forgot everything and froze when she
met Santa both times! Good thing she was able to email the list to
him… Tom was bestowed with the honor of Employee of the Year (which
also came with a nice check!) at his work. Tom and Matt took Luke to his
first wresting match, held locally at the Greensburg Armory. Luke was
thrilled with his front row seat for 8 “cage matches!” We
made a pair of snowmen about midway through the month (a first for Lukey!), as
we got our first significant snowfall of the season. That was followed up
with back to back trips to the Lafayette
area to have Christmas with Tom’s sides of the family. The first
one was the Bryan Christmas at Grandmaw & Grandpaw Bryan’s house in
Rossville, where we got to meet up with Dan & Sharon, as well as Nathan, Steph and their 2 girls. The following weekend was
the Scheumann Christmas, first at Grandma & Grandpa Scheu’s log
cabin, followed by the big party held at John and June’s beautiful
mansion. The attendance was a little down this year, but still easily had
50 Scheumanns, including our 91-yr old Granny Scheu! As the school
semester wound down, Matthew was psyched to perform in his first band concert;
unfortunately it was snowed-out… Thankfully, Grandma and Gigi were
able to go when it was rescheduled for 9:30 the following Tuesday
morning! We were thrilled that Grandmaw & Grandpaw Bryan were able to stay with us a couple nights, including
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! On Christmas Eve, we went to the annual
Owens Christmas party to celebrate with Ann’s side of the family.
We then rushed home for our family’s traditional routine: The kids
changed into their new Christmas jammies, sprinkled reindeer dust in the front
yard and then set out cookies, milk, cheese (it’s an Abby thing…)
and a bottled coke for Santa. This was followed by a reading of ‘Twas
the Night before Christmas by Tom, putting the kids to bed and then Mom and
Dad waiting for Santa to come. The kids were up so late that night and
then popped right back up at the crack of dawn on Christmas morning, of
course! The kids were really good again this year, judging by all the
loot they pulled in!! J
The coolest gifts included: Matt’s iPod and Guitar Hero III game,
Abby’s Hannah Montana guitar/mic/stage/amp/docking station setup;
Luke’s tool bench, 4-Wheeler and the complete GeoTrax set;
Ann’s popcorn collection and Tom’s baseball w/ Pete Rose autograph
(Thanks Chad!!)! During Christmas vacation, Matt and Abby attended the
Damon Bailey Basketball Camp, held at the YMCA. Matt didn’t want
his picture taken afterward, as he learned he “Was an IU guy,
Dad!” J Luke worked on his Alvin & The Chipmunks
“Bow-Chicka-Wow-Wow” dance. J This is something you just have to see…
Then, to wind up the year, we had our good friends Mike, Natalie and their
three kids down for New Year’s Eve. The guys again stomped the gals
in our regular euchre endeavor. All the kids made it to midnight
this year for the first time and enjoyed counting down to 2008. It has
been an exciting year for our family and we thank you for following our
family’s chronicle. We hope you enjoyed following it as much as we
had in creating it.
From the Scheumann
family to your family, we wish you a healthy and prosperous new year…
