Rain, rain – go away. We had a ton of rainfall this week, which really disrupted the flow of things around here. We had numerous cancellations. The fair came to town. Abby and the Pirateers had another performance. Luke and the Titans played in another tourney. And Matt continued working for Bryan.
It was back to work for Ann I on Monday. It was slow going as we were both still really tired from the weekend. Afterwards I took Luke and Abby to the YMCA. The kids hit the batting cages while I hit the walking track. I think it was the only nice day of the week. That night we watched the NASCAR race that was on overnight last night. It was a cool race with lots of wrecks but Dale Jr prevailed in an exciting finish that saw #3 car get airborne in to the catch fence in a horrific wreck but he was able to walk away.
Tuesday was hot, humid and stormy all day. Abby’s Pirateers practice got cancelled as well as Luke’s baseball practice. Since we couldn’t mow, I hit the treadmill and stayed dry. I watched a few movies while Ann slept on the couch next to me. Later, Bu went out on a date with Noah.
It was cooler on hump day. It rained all day again and never even got out of the 60s. Matt continued to work at Ellis. Ann was at the Greensburg office. The rain again cancelled Luke’s baseball practice again. Abby finally got back to working on her Drivers-Ed online class. Matt got his Xbox 1 up and running in the family room so now we have a Wii on the big screen, that on a small screen, his laptop and two desk computers. And that doesn’t include the other laptops, tablet, Xbox 360 and all the smart phones and iPods…and the kids wonder why our network lags! I was thrilled to hear that hot on the heels of the Simpson’s big announcement that they had signed Harry Shearer (meaning the entire cast was back again) and the show had been given another couple years, South Park was renewed for four more years! Later, Bu went out on another date with Noah and Matt went to Mason’s. We have several new social media pictures to share this week: Luke & Drew being goofs; Luke & Alex from their bday party in our backyard several years ago; Gigi at the 4th parade; Missy & Mindy; Katie & Jake at Holiday World; Phyllis & Dick; Lynz & Aunt Juney during their Eurasia vacation; Daniel & Kels in Hawaii; Rick at the Pinks All Out competition; Todd Frazier made the All-Star team; Jeff’s cool paint scheme; the women’s US soccer team; our beautiful Bu; another goofy Luke pic; more Aunt June & Lindsay; Hayleigh; LP Slicers; the two players representing the Reds next week; Harry’s big announcement; new Star Wars Hot Wheels; Kroft brother 70’s icons; another Bu; Tammy at Deer Creek; South Park also had a big announcement; the Big One at Daytona; lunch at Carino’s; Bryan & Skeeter McGee at the fair; Gracie; Aunt Sharon and family; an oldie of Bu & Britt; a cool new look for the real Twin Mill in Superman garb & Spidey car at SDCC this week and we lost two more celebs from my childhood this week – the great actor Omar Sharif and Super Bowl champion QB Kenny “The Snake??? Stabler.
The sun finally came out and we had a dry day on Thursday. There was noticeably less humidity and the temps rebounded in to the 80s. It was opening night at the county fair so Luke & Abby were all excited to go. Ann & I refused to go out there with it being so muddy and knowing that all the nuts would be out there. Abby had Pirateers then went out to work at the fair as the Disco Duck for Gigi and WTRE. Luke & I finally got a chance to mow and then afterwards he pitched to me in the back lot. He did very well as we held his pitch count to 80.
Friday was yet another rainy day. Luke went out to Drew’s house for an overnight party. Ann had late-night scrap at Mrs. B’s with Shawna. I met up with Matt & Bu who were having dinner at El Reparo. Later, Bu went out with Noah. Matt was in bed early since he had to work with Bryan in the morning.
Besides Matt, the rest of us enjoyed sleeping in on Saturday. Matt ran the sound mixer at the fair for Bryan at the baby contest. It was a full circle for Matt who at one point was also an entrant in that same contest some 20 years earlier. We got most of our weekly household chores done that morning before we packed up the car and headed over to Columbus for Luke’s baseball tournament at Clifty Park on the east side. It was a nice complex with grass infields. We faced off with the Indy Mustangs. Although we should’ve matched up well with them, we made them look like all-stars and made numerous mistakes that a team that had no practice in two weeks would have – losing in a route, 1-16 in three innings. Luke was 0-1. He was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat and never recovered the rest of the day. We were able to load the bases but could not score and would have no other major threat. He also popped up in his other at-bat. In between games we had a nice lunch at Johnny Carino’s. In the 2nd game, we faced the Zionsville Eagles for the 2nd time this year. We lost by only a few in our previous matchup but again we made the other team look like a championship team. We continued our issues with hitting and defense, again only scoring 1 run and having the game stopped early due to run-rule, 1-11. Luke was 0-2 with a groundout and strikeout. It was the season in a nutshell. We have really taken our lumps, to be sure. Matt went out with the boys that night and ended up staying the night with Andy. It stormed really hard overnight, though I slept right through it.
We were up early on Sunday. When you get blown out in both your play-in games, you end up playing the early game on tourney day. We were up before the sunrise and got ready. As we finished packing the car, we got the text that the games were delayed. A couple hours later, we got the news that all games were cancelled. I received several notifications about all the flash flooding in the area – especially in Columbus and Franklin. There were several road closures due to all the water in Columbus, even out by our work buildings, which are generally safe from flooding. Everyone took naps except me. Instead I was dealing with an issue with GN3 phone. Yesterday it lost 4G connectivity and never has come back. I spoke with tech support that morning and did a hard reset on my phone. Although I backed up the majority of my data, I did lose some things and spent the rest of the day attempting to recover the rest of my phone’s settings. It was so hot and humid – it finally felt like July. We enjoyed the A/C all afternoon while it was steamy outdoors. In the early afternoon, we prepped for the fair parade. We set up our usual base at WTRE, with the chairs in the back of our truck, under the portable gazebo. Matt and Maryann joined us and Ann brought the dogs with her as well. Abby danced with the Pirateers while marching with the band in the blazing heat. Luke rode with Sandy and worked as her Disco Duck in the WTRE car, following their float. They ended up using her new car so they could enjoy the air conditioning due to the extreme heat/humidity. The parade was threatened by rain, making the already short list of entries and even faster parade. Both Ann and I noticed that the cars were going unusually fast this year, making it incredibly hard on those walking the parade route. Bryan, Angie and Drew represented the Jimmy Johns float entry along with Rick & Rich (the other co-owners) joined Bryan in handing out sandwiches, which were really good! We also saw Shawna’s kids on the FFA float. We were so hot and tired that we decided to take the kids out to dinner at El Reparo. We spent the rest of the night napping on the couches and staying cool inside. Matt went out to Mason’s house late that evening as we prepared again for more rain and severe weather tomorrow.
Next is our Waybac segment. We continue to feature the first few photo albums of our young family from 1996 to 1998.
