What a busy week?it seems we?ve been on the go non-stop for the past several weeks now. It didn?t start off that way however. On Monday, we woke up to rain, but Matt still went to football practices. It rained all morning but eventually dried up in the afternoon. It wasn?t enough to prevent the games being washed out that night (Abby?s slow pitch game), but it was dry enough to mow at Mom & Sandy?s house. I was saddened to hear that Clarence ?Big Man??? Clemons ? the saxophonist for Bruce Springsteen?s E Street Band ? had passed away after complications from a recent stroke. I?ve included a few of my favorite moments from his career below in the video section. But first, here are last weekend?s Father?s Day pictures I promised last time.<\/p>\n

Tuesday night rained out Abby?s fast pitch game, so I finally got the kids? computers swapped out (Abby wanted her laptop installed at her workstation \/ desk and Luke wanted Bu?s computer) and networked. That ended up taking me a better part of the evening to complete and although it was the first day of summer, it felt more like fall ? it was much cooler, damp and just kind of blah. Ann had a good dental check up earlier in the day and Matt again went to his optional football practices. We received some nice senior pictures from my cousin Tammy?s son, Austin. I cannot believe he is graduating already!
\n Matt had the day off from practices on Wednesday. Ann was gracious enough to volunteer her time in the concession stand at the diamonds, so dropped off Lukey at his game and took Bu out to fast pitch softball practice at North Park and got back just in time to help coach Luke?s game. Luke had an off game ? by far his worst of the year. At the plate, he went 0-2 and although he had four assists at the pitcher position, he also had 3 throwing errors and the first baseman had an additional 3 catching errors that could also be attributed to Luke?s arm. We really should?ve won that game but due to too many mistakes, we lost 11-6. Abby got a ride back to the complex with a coach and had a slow pitch game where she did a little better, going 1-2 with a double, ground out and a walk. She also had a very nice assist on a little nubber that rolled out in front of the plate with a great throw to fist base?the team however simply made too many errors and lost by 9.<\/p>\n

Thursday was even cooler with lows in the low 60s and the high barely in to the 70s?and with us having no pool currently, we were cool with that trend. Abby had a fast pitch game that evening that she started in right center field for some reason but quickly moved her first base after the interim player made three errors in the first inning. Abby had 5 putouts and no errors, though she did have difficulty reaching one that soared over her head. She again went 0-2 at the plate and never even swung at the ball the whole night. The gals played good enough to win the game, but came up a little short and lost 9-7. We were thrilled to find 3 new boxes of Fireworks popcorn on our doorstep when we finally got back home and broke it in that evening for supper. <\/p>\n

Friday was another busy day. It was Lukey?s 8th birthday! Ann and Abby baked baseball-shaped cupcakes for his game that night to take as snacks for his teammates. But first up was Bu who started with a slow pitch game and did great! She went 3-4 with a pair of singles and a triple (she finally hit the grass again)! She had 3 RBIs and scored a pair of runs. We actually won that game ? this time by 15-run rule!! Luke was up next in the twilight game. He played against the Cubs, coached by our friend Trevor Hellmich and Luke enjoyed playing against his buddy Luke, Trevor?s son and Phyllis & Dick?s grandson. Luke had 5 assists and 1 throwing error. He had a great catch when a teammate ran in to him during a routine pop fly and both boys tumbled to the ground ? cutting up his leg and arm pretty good ? but held on to the ball! He went 1-2 with a single, RBI and scored a run. We went out to eat at Pizza King and then came home for a brownie birthday ?cake??? and presents. It finally began to feel like summer on Saturday. Luke and I were the first ones up and got in to Davis & Daughters to get the oil changed in our vehicles. Luke had another league baseball game that morning and had fun playing against his buddy Jeremy (aka ?Germie???). Luke has a good feel for the game, adjusting to pitches and batters? swings, figuring out where the ball is going to go based on the batter?s swing. He?s starting to figure it out, which is pretty cool to see and watch how he grows and learns with each game. In fact, he?s to the point now that we?ve stopped re-positioning him for each batter and letting him have free roam of the middle of the diamond. He just needs to work on being more consistent with his throwing or move him to 1st base (just like his Daddy) ? he has a strong, wild arm. He had a decent day, defensively ? earning 6 assists but did have 2 errors (and the 1st baseman had a pair as well) but it was his offensive prowess that really set him apart. He was 2-2 with a double and a triple, hitting the ball deep in to the grass both times! He had a pair of RBIs, helping his team to a victory. We went home and grabbed a bite to eat before heading right back out to the complex for his all-star team. We had pictures first and then took on the Greensburg 8 year old all-stars. The Stars hung in there but ended up a few runs short of a victory. Meema and Gigi were in attendance for the first time this year. Luke played in left field and had a couple of ground balls come his way but says he?s bored out there in the grass. At the plate, he was 1-3 with a triple that hit the fence!! His hit to left-center field was a bases loaded \/ bases clearing shot that he was really excited about. He had 3 RBI and scored a run. Afterwards, the kids received medals for placing in the tourney over Memorial Day. We dropped Ann off at home and the kids & I took off for Columbus to return to Fireworks Emporium who again cut us a great deal!! On our way back, we came the back way and passed through Hartsville where their annual fish fry and flea market was occurring. We wanted to stop and do some Hot Wheel hunting, but decided to head on home instead. This is gonna be a good display this year! In fact, while shopping for this year?s goods it gave them the bug ? the ?Boom Boom??? bug as Luke called it. On the way home, Abby was singing along to the Ted Nugent classic, ?Back Scratch Finger.??? LOL! In fact, they had the bug so bad that evening that they dug out last year?s leftovers and shot them off in the back yard. Afterwards, they had a water fight and came back in soaked! Per the Duke?s request, we had biscuits and gravy for dinner that night (a boy after my own heart!)?<\/p>\n

Sunday was Lukey?s actual birthday party. Phyllis & Dick, Mom & Sandy and Dee & Jamie were all in attendance. We had cake & ice cream and of course opened presents. His favorite present of the day was the basketball goal ? an actual basketball goal ? that Matt & I spent over 2 hours assembling. It is very nice though and should last him \/ us nearly a lifetime. We did lots of clean-up round the house and knocked out our weekly chores before we all fell asleep early?<\/p>\n

Leading off, since it is graduation season, how apropos to begin with a picture from my high school graduation party cake in June of ?87, followed by several of Rob?s First Communion including Grandpaw Brown, his sister Aunt Dorothy and her husband Uncle Timmie in June of ?89 at St. Peter?s church in LaPorte. Next is Dad sleeping with our new kitty, Tuffy, in LP in ?90. Next are more pictures from White Birch Village in Wisconsin during a summer vacation in June of ?91 with, Rob, Dad Uncle Kenny, and Aunt Dorothy. <\/p>\n

Next is Matt with Tigger during Breakfast with Pooh at WDW in May of ?99; Mom & Dad with newborn Abby in September of that year, and Mom, Dad, Ann, Matt, Bu and I during the Week 19 party at the Sand Pebble in May of 2000, along with our visit to see Bob & Jackie at their house a few days later.<\/p>\n

He had a decent day, defensively ? earning 6 assists but did have 2 errors (and the 1st baseman had a pair as well) but it was his offensive prowess that really set him apart. He was 2-2 with a double and a triple, hitting the ball deep in to the grass both times! He had a pair of RBIs, helping his team to a victory. We went home and grabbed a bite to eat before heading right back out to the complex for his all-star team. We had pictures first and then took on the Greensburg 8 year old all-stars. The Stars hung in there but ended up a few runs short of a victory. Meema and Gigi were in attendance for the first time this year. Luke played in left field and had a couple of ground balls come his way but says he?s bored out there in the grass. At the plate, he was 1-3 with a triple that hit the fence!! His hit to left-center field was a bases loaded \/ bases clearing shot that he was really excited about. He had 3 RBI and scored a run. Afterwards, the kids received medals for placing in the tourney over Memorial Day. We dropped Ann off at home and the kids & I took off for Columbus to return to Fireworks Emporium who again cut us a great deal!! On our way back, we came the back way and passed through Hartsville where their annual fish fry and flea market was occurring. We wanted to stop and do some Hot Wheel hunting, but decided to head on home instead. This is gonna be a good display this year! In fact, while shopping for this year?s goods it gave them the bug ? the ?Boom Boom??? bug as Luke called it. On the way home, Abby was singing along to the Ted Nugent classic, ?Back Scratch Finger.??? LOL! In fact, they had the bug so bad that evening that they dug out last year?s leftovers and shot them off in the back yard. Afterwards, they had a water fight and came back in soaked! Per the Duke?s request, we had biscuits and gravy for dinner that night (a boy after my own heart!)?<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Sunday was Lukey?s actual birthday party. Phyllis & Dick, Mom & Sandy and Dee & Jamie were all in attendance. We had cake & ice cream and of course opened presents. His favorite present of the day was the basketball goal ? an actual basketball goal ? that Matt & I spent over 2 hours assembling. It is very nice though and should last him \/ us nearly a lifetime. We did lots of clean-up round the house and knocked out our weekly chores before we all fell asleep early?<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Next up is the Waybac section. Leading off, since it is graduation season, how apropos to begin with a picture from my high school graduation party cake in June of ?87, followed by several of Rob?s First Communion including Grandpaw Brown, his sister Aunt Dorothy and her husband Uncle Timmie in June of ?89 at St. Peter?s church in LaPorte. Next is Dad sleeping with our new kitty, Tuffy, in LP in ?90. Next are more pictures from White Birch Village in Wisconsin during a summer vacation in June of ?91 with, Rob, Dad Uncle Kenny, and Aunt Dorothy. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Next we fast forward to 1997 for Mom & Dad?s trip down to see Rob while living in Alabama in September, November for what appears to be Uncle Kenny & Aunt Dorothy?s anniversary in Lafayette (I can see Peggy, but that?s not Aunt Dot (I don?t think) and finally Thanksgiving in Rossville with Rob & Kate. Next is Matt with Tigger during Breakfast with Pooh at WDW in May of ?99; Mom & Dad with newborn Abby in September of that year, and Mom, Dad, Ann, Matt, Bu and I during the Week 19 party at the Sand Pebble in May of 2000, along with our visit to see Bob & Jackie at their house a few days later.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Our last section begins with Matt & I on the T-ball fields at the Y in June of Y2K and Halloween a few months later in Rossville with Tammy, Brett, the recent graduate, Austin (or is that Super Austin?), Leila and later Dad with Kenny, Homie, Brett and Uncle Timmie.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
