Luke had a ball game where he was again having a lot of fun. Matt & Abby helped me to get the kids excited to play before the game. It was hot all this week and today was no different. Thankfully, the humidity was low enough to make it a very nice evening for baseball. Luke again went 2-for-2 with a double and a single. He hit the ball really hard that game. He got out trying to stretch his double to a homerun, as the kid in front of him stopped at third. He really wanted a homer, so he was disappointed when he was tagged out. Defensively, he looked like he was ready to retire from baseball for the summer and focus more on swimming in the pool. He still made several outs, but had chances to make more. He made another really hard tag at home, knocking the kid to his butt. Although Matt was proud (he helped coach and Abby brought our hit stick to the game to help the kids on deck with their swing), Coach Derrick had him to start throwing the ball to the catcher. 🙁

On Tuesday, it was really muggy and had rained hard early in the morning. It had stayed dry right up until game time. However, as we pulled up to the field, it started to rain. By the end of the first inning, it was steady drizzle and Luke & I headed back to the van. I pulled up to the right-center field fence so we could continue to watch the game. It started to rain harder and harder. Abby came running a few minutes later, but Ann remained diligent with her own umbrella plus another mother?s huge golf umbrella. They didn?t even get past the second out before they finally pulled the boys off the field. They stayed in the dugout about 15 minutes before finally calling the game. By the time Ann & Matt made it back to the car they were soaked to the bone! 😛 We came home and Ann made popcorn to help us get warm and dry? That night, I was expecting to get the pictures from last Saturday’s parade, but Dee hasn’t sent them yet…Oh Deanna…!! Meanwhile, I did come across a couple cool pictures from the parade. The festival was ongoing this week and was to last through this Saturday. I have a cool picture of a parachuter coming in over the famous courthouse tree and one of Sarah Fischer, driving her Dollar General Indy car down Main St! Abby also brought home her Girls on The Run 5K certificate…good job Bu! …And finally, Matt’s baseball pictures made it home safely. The kids all decided to not smile…what a bunch of goofballs!

On Wednesday it was real foggy in the AM – only to become hot and humid, topping out in the very high eighties in the afternoon. Abby had a game that night?and what a game she had! She got to play left and right field as well as catcher. She didn?t see any action in the outfield, but did much better behind the plate. Offensively is where she really shined! She went 3-for-3 with a double and scored the winning run!! 😛 She was so excited! (Her parents were pretty jazzed as well?) After the game, she received many compliments and even talked about wanting to play fast-pitch softball ? which starts right after this current season. In fact, this was her last regular season game. Her first tourney game is Monday at the same time as Matthew?s first tourney game as well. Ann is looking in to getting her signed-up, even though the deadline has expired?so we?ll see. We had to park all the way up by the pool because the lot was so full when we arrived. The city officials really didn?t think through their decision to add an additional diamond out at the complex this spring. Granted, it?s cool that you can fit more games / kids in each night?but they didn?t add any more parking, so you end up having to park by the pool, out on the street or even at the bowling alley. By the time we reached the van, Luke said he wanted to walk the rest of the way home, so the girls rode home while the two of us took the long way home. We really “stopped to smell the (proverbial) roses!??? Luke had loads of questions and really enjoyed talking / waving to people, seeing the nature we take for granted each day by flying by it in a vehicle and just getting to spend some quiet, quality time together was pretty cool. We got home about 20 minutes later and decided to go swimming. Matt & Abby joined us, but Ann had gone on to scrapbooking with the ladies. We swam until it was dark and if the bugs hadn?t started biting, we may have turned on the light in there and stayed a bit longer ? as the water was just right? 🙂

We had a big thunderstorm on Thursday. It was an especially ?stormy??? day for me because it was the last day for one of my favorite co-workers – Patty. I trained Patty on the units nine years ago. She eventually succeeded me when I moved up the ranks, but we still interacted frequently each day. She has one of the best senses of humor of anyone I?ve ever known. Our business and especially our residents will miss her presence. But, it’s a good move for her personally, so I am very happy for her. Patricia, I wish you well in your endeavors? Matt had his final game of the regular season ? late – on Thursday night. Luke was thrilled to bump in to his buddy Alex out at the ball diamonds. Ann sat and talked with his mom, Christi, before eventually joining me to watch Matthew?s game. Luke loved running around the complex and playground with Alex. Abby ran off with her buddy Megan as well. She decided to spend the night with her, so she was all keyed up. Matt?s team played well, winning 10-8 and looked good most of the game. They still looked young and made a few ?rookie??? mistakes. They?ll play this team again on Monday night in the first game of the tourney. Matt played in both right field and second base. He only had one ball hit to him, which he handled easily. At the plate, he was officially 0-0 with 2 bases on balls. He did break up a double play with a hard slide in to second. The boys were so excited to win tonight – but they know it?ll be a different game, come Monday night?so they better be prepared. Afterward, we took the boys out to Buffalo Wings & Rings. However, while we were there, Ann got a call from Abby – saying she wanted to come home. We picked her up and got her home about 10. Luke fell asleep at the restaurant. She didn?t know why she wanted to come home?just that she did?whatever.

On Friday, Abby finished with tennis lessons and Matt completed football camp. He placed 4th in the kicking competition, possibly opening up a spot for next year?s team. He also continued to attend weight lifting with the team on Tuesdays & Thursdays this week. I worked outside in the heat & humidity (90?s with nearly 100% humidity, pushing the heat index up near 120?), landscaping the front areas of the facility in Columbus! I was dripping wet by lunch time when we finished. I stayed in the air conditioning of my office during the afternoon and by the time I left work, my inner thighs had become gaulded beyond belief. I was waddling by the time I got home. But Luke?s last ball game was that night; so I toughed it out. Ann went scrapbooking after work with Amy and she brought her along to the game as well. They both got a kick out of making fun of me and the way I was walking (and the look on my face, I?m sure) the entire game. Luke played against his buddy Oakley?s team and we had a lot of fun, being silly due to it being our last game. Luke went 2-2 with two runs scored, but was trying too had and ended up having to hit off the tee both times. He did hit the grass, so we got to go for ice cream after the game! 🙂 Yeah! He received a medal instead of a trophy this year for whatever reason. He didn?t seem to mind, beaming from ear to ear afterward. Matt & Abby again helped with assisting at the game. Matt is a natural with children? I really think he might follow his dad?s footsteps into the healthcare field?

Abby & I were up early on Saturday to get the oil changed in all three vehicles. We finished just in time to get cleaned up, pick up Lukey?s buddy Alex and head up to Indy for a family outing with the birthday-to-be-boy. We surprised Luke with a trip to the Indianapolis Children?s Museum and a movie at the IMAX Theater! All the kids were really well behaved. Matt was a little leery of going at first, but found a way to fit in once he got there?again, he was great with the little kids ? he?s got a real knack for knowing how to communicate well and keep their interest. Our first stop was the Dinosphere. We spent several hours in that area alone. Luke & Alex really got in to the whole dinosaurs / fossils thing. We did several of the activities that make this museum really special for the kids. We got to meet real paleontologists and see them working on actual excavations. They did a lot of hands-on activities that the bigger kids were really patient with (I appreciated that?). We then went to All Aboard ? which was a train exhibit. I really liked part and so did Luke. Next, we went to the planetarium and watched a really cool movie in there before checking out the Star Wars exhibit. We thought there would be a Lego exhibit also, but we had just missed it. They were actually just beginning to set up for the upcoming King Tut exhibits ? opening next Saturday. The Star Wars area was cool; we just wish there had been more of it. I enjoyed this area most of all. After a quick lunch in the museum and a few minutes at the water clock, we headed up to the upper floors. The 2nd floor was closed for the Tut stuff and the 3rd floor was mostly closed for renovation (other than our customary race car picture). However, on the 4th floor, we spent several hours doing all the cool stuff in the ScienceWorks area and the Carousel Wishes & Dreams section. Initially, they loved watching / playing with the Rube Goldberg Ball Machine. They didn?t move for about 15 minutes, being enthralled with all the movements. Next, we headed over to the water area, where we spent close to 45 minutes, damning up the waterway, making paths for the boats, and altogether just trying different things out to see what happened next! They also had fun playing in the construction area, playing on the crane, dump truck and lots of scoops, fake ?dirt??? and blocks. We spent a long time over near the Healthy House area, as the kids ran around, the parents sat down and the museum staff did special activities with the kids. We finished up over at the carousel and maze area where they also had some clubhouses and an exhibit of old games and toys. We were pretty tired when we left the museum and headed towards the Indiana State Museum to go to the IMAX Theater. We weren?t sure what was showing, but we knew we wanted Luke to see the IMAX. The movie turned out to be the new Star Trek movie, which had a couple scenes where Ann had to cover the boys? eyes, but otherwise was very exciting to see such a graphics-intensive movie on the jumbo screen. It was my first time to see an IMAX movie and I was just blown away. When we first walked in, Luke exclaimed, ?Wow!??? 🙂 Afterwards, we contemplated going on a paddleboat excursion on the canal, but it was getting late so we decided to head back home. Lucas wanted to go to Cracker Barrel, so we stopped in Shelbyville and just had a short drive home. Alex stayed the night with us and we went for a nighttime dip in the pool. The water was pretty warm from the weather being really hot the last few days. The little ones and I just went for a short, 20-minute swim before getting out and doing a few fireworks while the big ones stayed in and rooted us on. Lola loves fireworks and enjoys chomping on smoke bombs?crazy dog?

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos/CM1.jpg" height="500" width="300" Luke had a ball game where he was again having a lot of fun.

On Sunday, Ann & the kids let me sleep in late before making lasagna (my fave!) for lunch!
