Lukey started soccer practice on Monday night. Although this is his first year, he picked it up very fast. He is the only one on his team that hasn?t played before, but he obviously had better skills than his teammates. He is a great runner and kicker. He just needs to learn how to dribble and pass to his teammates. He had a great time and the coach really liked him; commenting on his aim, ?You have the straightest kick!??? Matt also had football practice ? about which, he was very excited. However, there are only 17 young men on the team at this time, which is a little discouraging. When you factor in injuries throughout a football season, it?s not looking good for the Pirates…hopefully; they can pick up a few more when school starts. Ann got the kids all registered for school Tuesday morning. Luke will join Abby at the elementary school this year.

On Tuesday, it started raining?and kept raining ? hard ? for most of the day. We had intense storms with lots of lightning strikes. That was followed very quickly by flash flooding. Thankfully it wasn?t as bad as last year, but there were still several roads closed. Matt went over to Grandma and Gigi?s house to puppy-sit, as the girls all went down to Holiday World for a few days. In Greensburg, Lincoln St flooded out just a few houses from where Matt was staying. He was supposed to go to football practice, which would have taken him right through the flood area. Thankfully, the coaches cancelled it and the flooding receded by the next morning. Our normal routes were all blocked coming home from work. The creek by the sledding hill was a raging river, nearly 30? in diameter and several yards above flood stage. The countryside route that Ann & I take to and from work was also flooded in several areas, causing us to follow I-46 for two days.
Flood and storm damage was all the talk on Wednesday. Several roads were still closed and Brown Co. was hit really hard. They had no power, no phone service, no water and severe flooding. It continued for several days, into the weekend. I put in a 12 hour day, finally getting caught up on several things that had gotten pushed to the backburner. It was funny; I got more done from 5 ? 7:30 than I did from 7:30 ? 5! Abby stayed the night over at Megan?s house, which she was very excited about (although, I think it had more to do with not wanting to pick up her messy room!).

Thursday was a busy day that was a microcosm of the week. We left early to drop off Ann?s car for new tires at our neighbor?s Goodyear tire store. It turns out that we also need to replace the tie rod ends on the front end ? which were making a popping sound when there was a heavy brake load on the ?04 Pacifica. After dropping off Ann and picking up Luke at Brandy?s, we rushed home to get Luke in to his soccer gear. As he changed, I loaded the truck with our mowing gear and headed out to practice. It was a short practice, only lasting about 40 minutes. When we finished, we went over to Mom & Sandy?s to mow. They had made a last minute decision to go visit Keith & Rosie for a long weekend. After grabbing a quick dinner at Burger King, we stopped by Tops Hardware to get replacement parts for our commode, which began leaking on Tuesday night. Next, Luke & I stopped at Phyllis & Dick?s house. They were having issues with their ComCrap internet service. It took about an hour to get them up and running, but I?m glad it took a little while, as they were busy making freezer corn and had about 20 dozen ears in various stages of processing?and they let me sample a couple ears! They made sure I took home a bag of tomatoes and corn as a thank you. We finally got home around 9 and began work on the commode. Dennis has taught me well and saved me a call to the plumber – my repair job was successful for $6. 🙂 Abby spent another night at Megan?s house; God bless her mother?
On Friday, Abby had her first soccer practice. Her coach has asked me to be her assistant. I told her I would help her as often as possible, but couldn?t dedicate myself to the team, due to the other two being involved in sports, as well as Bu dancing in two classes this fall. We practiced pretty hard for an hour or so. I know I ran more than I had the previous 2 months! I was pretty pooped, but it felt great! I am actually looking forward to doing it again next week. Lukey had his buddy Alex spend the night with him. Initially, Luke was to be in Kindergarten ?A??? classes and both Alex and his other buddy, Oakley, were both in ?B.??? Today, Ann met with the school nurse, regarding Luke?s peanut allergy ? to create a plan of action to keep him safe. While in discussion, they were looking for friends, with which to eat lunch safely. When brought up the fact that both Oakley (Brandy) & Alex (Christi) had both been fulltime day care providers for Luke and both were aware of Luke?s special needs, the nurse was able to move Luke to ?B??? classes and in fact will be in Alex?s class! They were both so excited.

Saturday was finally a slow down?thank God! The boys lounged around the house, catching up with shows saved on our DVR while the girls went out shopping. Matt had a football game ? the annual Blue & White scrimmage game. There were only 16 kids on the field for the 8th grade scrimmage. Eventually, they drafted 4 7th graders to make it 10-on-10 at least? Matt played on the blue side, starting at center again. In the second half, he played defensive tackle. However, he wasn?t feeling very well after halftime, due to drinking too much water?and wasn?t able to play up to his standard, being sick to his stomach with water-logging. Blue won 4-0, despite the set back. 🙂 It was pretty hot out there ? hotter and more humid than it had been in almost two months. When we got home, the kids and I jumped our sweaty butts in the pool for a couple hours before firing up the grill for dinner and a beverage.
