On Monday, Ann picked up Matt from football practice and went to dance classes with Abby until after 8. I took Luke to soccer practice and sat in the parking lot, working on my monthly safety report on my laptop. By the time I was finished that night (around midnight), it was 18 pages! The following night, on Tuesday, we headed up to North Decatur (only a mile or so out of town) to watch Matt?s football game. The game was a blowout. They didn?t even have enough 7th graders to field a team. So, we had our 7th graders scrimmage against a mixture of their 7th & 8th grade teams. They only played two quarters, so we got an early start. We got the message pretty late, so we had to rush around at the last moment and managed to make it through the gates just before they kicked off. Grandma & Gigi were in attendance again, for a second straight week. Matt was thrilled (Gigi was thrilled that it was an earlier start and a quick game!). It was cool (and sad at the same time) to see that we filled our little side of the bleacher seats (in fact, everyone’s little kids didn’t really have room to sit and chose to go to the playground, located behind the football field). Sandy & I stood up, along the field for the entire game, as did a couple dozen other folks. However, on the other side of the field, their sparsely covered bleachers barely had two dozen fans perhaps. Matt is still the starting center and played there the entire game. He again played mistake free, which he was excited about on the ride home. Their offense is now incorporating many more shotgun formations and his long snaps have gotten much more accurate as the season has progressed. You know, he is such a great kid. When I asked him why he didn?t take more advantage of the smaller player in front of him most of the game, he replied, ?I felt sorry for him because he was so small; so I gave him a chance.??? 🙂 ?I think that is why he doesn?t play on the same side of the ball as his father did? Speaking of which; the defense got its first shut out of the year. Matt even got three snaps at defensive tackle, late in the game. He did not have any tackles, but at least he got his jersey dirty! 😛 ?and he loved every minute of it; he had a huge smile on his face when he trotted off the field, yelling to the coach to please leave him in longer…

We love our DVR! After Matt?s game, we finally got to see our friend Allen Smith debut on Biggest Loser. His class and humility came across on the small screen. He is exactly like that in real life. We were in tears for most of that episode. We hope it?s not like that the entire season! We were proud to see him finish 2nd in the initial challenge and 1st in weight loss for the first week. That night, we had over Grandma, Gigi and Gracie for fettuccini alfredo (Abby?s fave). She has been looking forward to this birthday for about three years now. When Matt received his cell phone, he was ten years of age?and Bu has been asking ever since. So, even though we were hoping to push it back to Christmas, she had been overheard several times in the past few weeks to be talking about how she was going to get a phone for her birthday. Not wanting to disappoint, we decided to go for it so we added her to our family plan. I think she loved it even more than her new iPod Touch! In addition, she also received a Greensburg football sweatshirt and a cool new Halloween cup, complete with ghosts exclaiming, ?Boo!??? Because Matt?s phone was only two months old and basically brand new, we gave her his existing phone (which still looks brand new) and he received a new one. We were up front with him; that we originally planned to do this at Christmas time, but the timing wasn?t right; so this would be one of his main presents; but he would get to enjoy it a few extra months. He decided on the LG enV Touch; so he has been stoked the rest of the week. Ann made a tray of brownies, per Abby?s request. We could have done without the powdered sugar, as it filled the air when Bu blew out her candles! 😛

On Thursday morning, Lukey woke up with one less tooth. He was so upset that he couldn?t find it, though; thinking the Tooth Fairy wouldn?t reimburse him for his troubles!! Thankfully, Dad left her a note in a baggie and she left a dollar for him that night. 🙂 At work, we had a Career Day for the kids. Among several participants from the community, we were happy to see our old friend Allen Smith (representing the fire department / coroner?s office). He was very gracious with all the kids? questions. Even his wife, Frankie, showed up as a Mary Kay consultant (she told me about Allen’s Facebook Fan Page!). It was very cool of both of them and all of the other participants to take time away from their schedules to come in for our kids. I called to see if Ann could attend about an hour before, as we had a few cancellations. Unfortunately, she had a gal quit the day before, so she was busy answering phones when I called her. She is taking applications, if anyone is interested! That night, Lukey missed soccer practice in order to attend family fun night at the elementary school. His class was so cute! They recited nursery rhymes, complete with Mother Goose leading them! He got to hang out with his best buddies: Alex (he even stood next to him when they did their little recital), Oakley & Jessalin. We all sat at the same table as well. Abby, Matt & I had to leave early to get out to soccer practice, but Ann stayed with him as they also did some arts & crafts time to round out the evening.

On Friday night, Luke had fallen asleep by the time I got home, so we stayed in; but Matt went out to the varsity home game (it was homecoming, so it was absolutely packed!), Abby went over to one of her best friend?s house (Megan) for a few hours and then mother & daughter made ?pig cupcakes.??? It was Abby who saw a picture of them on the cover of a magazine when they went shopping this evening to get materials to make snacks for Abby?s soccer game tomorrow. I thought they did an excellent job!

The next morning, we were up early to make a trip over to Columbus for the boys to all get haircuts with Ann?s hairdresser, Jamie. While Ann was paying (and gabbing with Jamie), I took the kids next door to VP to get snacks for the ride home. While we were there, we ran in to an old college friend of Ann & I, Chris Morlock. We hadn?t seen Chris in nearly a decade. It was fun to catch up with him real quick before he headed off to play in a golf tourney with my fraternity brother, Lumpy, and others. Man, we look old in the picture Matt snapped of us? When we got back to town, I took Bu & Luke over to Mom & Gigi?s to mow and then to Tops Hardware store for a few items needed for repairs around the house. We headed over to the soccer fields early for pictures before Abby?s game. We got blown away by a superior Sunman that is undefeated in our league. They were bigger, stronger, faster and much more aggressive than our team. There were lots of tackles, pushing and elbows; but that aside, they simply outclassed us on that field. To their coach?s discredit, he kept his best players in their positions the entire game, running the score up to 6-0 before I finally asked him if he was trying to get 20? Abby?s team enjoyed the pig cupcakes and Gatoraide she supplied as snacks for the game.

Luke?s game was much more exciting. Due to financial constraints this year, however; they were unable to secure a national recording artist to headline the entertainment. They had plenty of local talent and we enjoyed watching them for a few hours Saturday night. Ann refused to come out and stayed home to read instead. So Luke, Abby & I went up town for a few hours to eat the food, play around, catch some live music and just generally get out! Overall, there were fewer booths and a lot less people for a Saturday night, but there were more attractions for the kids. Early on, we met up with Amy & Baili. The kids enjoyed the bigger of the two jumping houses for about 15 minutes before they got the boot. Their next stop was the hair styling booth. Luke again went with the colored Mohawk, which drew attention to him the rest of the night. Earlier, the kids won a goldfish at one of the booths. Thankfully, we saw Danny & Curtis and they allowed us to donate our new fish (?Bob???) to their pond, as we have done about a dozen times through the years. We are unable to keep goldfish alive, so it is best for the fish that we not bring it home?and the kids didn?t even think anything of it ? they expected to have it live with the boys. They both looked healthy. We hadn?t seen them in quite a while. Their backyard was immaculate, as usual! We got home shortly before dusk and Luke wanted to play catch. I had to re-teach him how to throw the football, but once he got a few throws under his belt, he really took off. We started just a few feet away and by the end of our game, he was in the neighbor?s yard and was able to both catch the ball and throw it back to me. We eventually moved to the backyard, so the dogs could chase after our incomplete passes.

On Sunday, we cleaned up the house before we had our friends & family party for Bu. Until then, have a good one. Later, Scheu

Double trouble is right?another week has sped past us a blink of an eye and another trip around the sun has blurred by for our lovely daughter, as she officially entered double digits on the 16th.

Here is the video from the BL site:

We were unable to attend the premier in Columbus, but here is the channel 13 news coverage from that night:

On Wednesday, Abby enjoyed birthday pancakes as she finally turned 10.

Although the score ended in a 1-1 tie; Luke scored his team?s only goal! This was his first ever goal and he was so excited after the game!! 😛 That evening, Matt went to the Cincinnati Reds game with his good friend, Andrew. He had a good time, although his stomach was upset for much of the game…a theme played out by our entire family (and extended) throughout the entire week…

This weekend is the Tree City Fall Festival, downtown.
