They wouldn?t even leave the house ? they had food, drinks, games ? all self-sufficient and always had such a good time together. I always thought how cool it would be to do that one day. Although we had Mom & Dad down several times through the years, it just didn?t seem the same. This week, all that changed. We had all the kids stay with us. They brought their significant others and friends to stay as well. Even Rob & Sharon stayed with us. The house was full, busy and happy. With all the kids staying with us at the house, everything just seemed the way it was supposed to be and all was right in the world. We were able to stay in and do all the things that I remembered my folks doing with I was little. It was a fast week for all of us. Matt taught and coached a couple days in Zionsville then stayed with us through the weekend. Abby followed suit, going to classes at FC before bringing Megan home and they both stayed with us through the weekend. Luke had only a couple days of school but wrestled all week and had another meet this weekend ? including the biggest moment of his young career! We had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with our family, making memories that will last us a lifetime. We absolutely live for weeks like this ? in fact, it?s my favorite time of the year?definitely my favorite holiday ? full of food, family, football, lots of traditions ? even a parade! We had a lot of rain this week ? probably an inch or two. And although it was cold, we least we didn?t have any snow or ice, which allowed for everyone to travel safely. Ann gave her knees quite a workout this week. Between shopping, cooking and climbing to the top of a stinky gym ? she did great, but paid the price. As for my diet and exercise regimen?well that will have to start back up next week. There were more important things this week after all? Hello again; and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.

We had a cool start to the week on Monday morning. Poor Luke was up in the middle of the night with the dogs after one of them peed on his bed and he ended up sleeping on the couch. Lola was a bit contrary last night and has been having some behavioral issues lately since Molly has been getting so much attention the last few weeks. I went to wake him up that morning on my way into the bathroom and found his newly rearranged room empty with a cute note on the bed that read simply, ?I?m on the couch. Sincerely, Lucas Scheumann.??? LOL! Matt was observed teaching a 45-minute lesson by his principal, as part of his normal on-going evaluations. He was rated highly effective in all the criteria! In fact, the principal actually said to him, ?You did so well, do you just want my job???? Matthew politely declined? Abby was still tired from her long weekend. Thankfully, she only has a 2-day school week so she was able to just power through. Luke had a good day at school and then went on to wrestling practice. He ran around town for Ann, looking for Coke then went out to dinner with Brayden. Ann had a busy day at work. She bought another air mattress so we can sleep everyone this weekend since we traded the twin beds for that queen bed in Luke?s room. I had a long day at work. In fact, the work just kept coming and coming to the point where I didn?t even have time to walk that afternoon ? even though it was gorgeous outside and I really wanted to get out there? But when you?re trying to cram a week?s work into two and a half days, you?re going to have that? Mom & Sandy and Pixie came over to visit with us for a while that night. After they left, Annie made Fireworks popcorn for dinner and we watched some DVR?d shows on the big screen and chilled with the dogs. Here are pictures of Luke?s wresting meet last weekend.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos4/lp19.12.01.jpg" height="300" width="400" It was the last day of work for Ann this week and the last full day for me. I had an incredibly busy day with two vendors in-house, new-hire orientation, EOC rounds on the units and held a fire drill. Afterwards, I walked three miles around the airport property. Luke had his last day of school for the week then went to wrestling practice where he wrestled-off for 220. Although he was winning the match by five points, he was disqualified for too many cautions as he kept locking his hands when down on the mat. So, at this point we don?t know if he?ll even wrestle this weekend now? After practice, he went out to dinner with his buddies. Abby & Megan came home from Franklin for the long weekend and promptly went out to eat at El Rep. Ann had a senior moment that evening. While watching one of our favorite shows (9-1-1), we received a call on the home phone from the school about there being no classes the next three days. Now, normally we don?t get those calls when we?re home. Most of the time, we listen to calls from them on the voicemail. So, Ann answers the phone, listens to the pre-recorded message and then tries three times to delete the message. Only problem is?it won?t delete so she hangs up, frustrated. She turns to me and says, ?I pressed 7 three times, but I don?t think it deleted.??? Then it dawns on her and we both start cracking up ? this was a live call?something you can?t delete! ???? Abs & Megan went over to Terry & Christy?s house to play spoons. Luke & Oakley came over with Jenna & Tristen and retreated to the family room to watch a movie. Later, they ran the girls home then came back and Oak stayed the night. Abs and Megan came home about the same time and Meg spent the night with Bu as well. Luke was on the front page of the sports page that night and was mentioned in the write-up as well, documenting his first varsity wrestling match of his high school career!

I got up early and went into work on Wednesday morning. I returned the pressure washer to work and when went to grab it from the shed, the dogs must?ve been obnoxious because the next thing I know, Bu was at the patio door letting the dogs out. Little did she know, but I had left the gate open so of course the dogs ran straight for it. I caught Lola, but the midnight-black Molly got out and vanished into the darkness. Thankfully, Abby was quick on her feet and by the time Mols got around to the front yard, Abs was already at the front door with the treat bag in her hands and Molly went right back indoors. Good thinking, Bu! I drove Barney into work and had a very fast and busy day before leaving at noon. Meanwhile, Luke got up and went to wrestling practice later that morning. He was a little late and sure enough ? got stuck behind the Honda plant train. Abby & Ann took Oakley home while Megan slept in. Just as I got home, Rob & Sharon were walking up the driveway (perfect timing). We came in and got caught up while snacking on all the goodies they brought with them ? including spinach dip, pub cheese (Aunt Sharon?s recipe!), corn crack and cheeseball ? all homemade?yum! We decided to play some euchre and have a couple cocktails while catching up. Matt came home while we were playing and planned to stay with us all weekend! The girls beat the boys in two-straight before we headed over to Mom & Sandy?s for dinner. Ann brought a vat of her delicious chili over for a family reunion dinner. Keith, Rosie & Megan came home from Buffalo and stayed the weekend with Gma & Gigi. Dee & Jamie were already there and helping Mom & Gigi cook as Gigi?s Gourmet was open for business! We enjoyed sausage balls, olive dip, celery & BWR?s bleu cheese, among other goodies, including desserts ? a ton of peanut butter fudge and sugar cookies. We watched a movie on Netflix called How it Ends. It was a good idea but a horrible ending. We visited for a couple hours at Mom?s before we came back and watched a couple Thanksgiving movies on the big screen, including the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and Trains, Planes and Automobiles. Abby went out with Mary & Julia for a while. We got everyone set up with beds ? Rob & Sharon in the family room and Matt in the living room. These inflatable beds are great and super-easy to setup and tear down. Rob & Sharon were the first to bow out, worn-out from their long day. I laughed that Rob?s snoring reminded me of the sound the Fisher Price Little People barn used to make when you opened the barn door, sort of a ?moo??? sound. ???? I remember those days and Ann making me sleep on the couch in the family room! LOL! Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos4/sis19.12.01.jpg" height="400" width="300" Abby & Ann went out with Gigi to go shopping, as has been their tradition for decades (well, Ann & Sandy anyhow). They stopped by Mom & Sandy?s house and got their traditional ?taste??? of Maryann?s homemade dressing as well. Meanwhile, we watched the Macy?s Thanksgiving Day parade. We were concerned that the balloons wouldn?t be able to be flown, but they did?low to the ground, but still they were there ? despite the heavy winds. Ann cooked green bean casserole, brussels sprouts and rolls. Before noon, we loaded up the cars and headed back over to Gma & Gigi?s house for a huge lunch. It was a good crowd this year and a full house. We had the five of us plus Rob & Sharon, Gma & Gigi, Keith, Rosie & Megan, Dee & Jamie, ?Grandpa??? Joe and even had a guest appearance by Linda & Dave?well Dave anyway, who picked up a ?to-go??? plate and left. We thought Amy might come over, but she never showed. We had the biggest spread ever, I think ? turkey, a spiral ham, a 2nd turkey with gravy, mashed potatoes, gravy, noodles, a 2nd dish of mashed potatoes with cream cheese, corn casserole, homemade mac & cheese, dressing, sweet potatoes, Ann?s three dishes, Jamie?s baked beans?and for dessert we also had pumpkin & pecan pies, along with all the cookies and fudge from last night. We watched the Lions play the Bears. Purdue alum (David Blough) got his first professional start for Detroit as their QB. It was a good game that went right down to the last few seconds but the Bears pulled it out in the end. We came back home and watched the Cowboys play the Bills in the 2nd game of the day. They sucked badly and lost by a couple scores. How this team continues to underachieve is beyond me? We played a couple games of euchre and enjoyed a few cocktails. Rob & I beat Sharon & Matt a couple times and later swept Abby & Megan easily while Ann napped. Afterward, we woke up Ann and went back over to Mom & Sandy?s house to get leftovers for dinner and ended up playing a couple games. Rob & I beat Matt & Jamie at euchre and then a big game of Cards Against Humanity broke out. Mom was already in bed by the time we got there, tuckered out from her big day. Abby & Megan went to the Dance?s house first and then joined us at Gma & Gigi?s for games. Afterward, we resumed the card playing at home and it continued until the wee hours of the morning. Rob & I were on a tear and won game after game. As Matt pointed out, we went 24 hours and didn?t lose a single game ? and we played a ton of euchre. Eventually, in early hours of Friday, Abby & Megan eventually toppled us, but it was a great run! We enjoyed many cocktails and killed off several bottles from our liquor cabinet. ???? Annie hit the hay fairly early so she could get up early in the morning but Abby did a great job of hanging with us old timers and she & I eventually lost the last game of the night to Matt & Rob who attained the bragging rights on the day. The only thing we forgot to do today was get out and throw the football ? something Luke and I had done every Thanksgiving Day since he was like 2 or 3? We?ll have to start a new streak next year, I guess?

The dogs had me up early on Black Friday, only a few hours after going to bed. That c-pap kept me up as well again. I?m sure I will eventually adjust to it, but it can?t come too soon. Ann got up with me and we got Luke up, who had slept through his alarm he set for wrestling practice. Matt had planned to go with him as well, but he didn?t make it and ended up sleeping in. Amy came over to pick up Ann for their annual shopping outing. They paused for a moment to allow me to get our annual Black Friday picture of them. This year, they had matching sweatshirts, light-up necklaces and, of course, their traditional hideous headgear to boot! The dogs went back to sleep, but I was wide awake by then so I stayed up and worked on the blog. Luke came back from wrestling practice and woke Matt up. Abby & Megan eventually got out of bed and took Luke shopping in Columbus where they couldn?t even get into any of the outlet mall shops. So, they went up to the Greenwood Park Mall for several hours. Rob & Sharon left sometime around noon to head back to Ohio because Rob had to work early the next morning. We were trying to figure out how long it had been since we spent Thanksgiving together?the best we can figure, it?s been about 25 years! We were so glad they got to come stay with us. We made a lot of special memories that we?ll always treasure. Taylor came to our house shortly before Rob & Sharon left. She picked up Matt and went out to lunch at Stories. We watched a movie and then got all the Christmas stuff out of the garage and into the house in preparation for tomorrow, when we put up all the Christmas stuff. Matt helped Taylor fluff the tree and it looks great. Abby and crew came home with mixed success from their shopping adventure. Luke was only home a moment then went out to dinner with Oak & Kam to BWR while the rest of us watched a scary movie on the big screen. After dark, the kids decided to go to Gma & Gigi?s house to get leftovers for dinner and to visit with family. The kids enjoyed spending time with Mom, Sandy, Keith, Rosie & Megan as well as Dee & Jamie again. Garrett came down and met Abs over there as well. They played another rousing game of Cards Against Humanity. Meanwhile, I cleaned-up around the house and paid bills before the kids came back to play some more euchre. Matt & I beat Abby & Megan. Ann came home just as the game ended. Matt helped me put the middle bench back into Barney as Ann put away all her packages and goodies before we called it a night and turned in early so we could get up early tomorrow. Here are pictures of recent additions to my Hot Wheels collection.

Luke & I up early on Saturday morning to get things moving in the Scheu abode, as we had to get eight people ready that morning. Luke headed into school to catch the bus for his wresting meet and found out that the kid that he faced-off against earlier in the week did not show?so he was the next man up and will wrestle varsity 220! We eventually got everyone up and out the door as we headed to Northeastern High School in Fountain City with a full van: Ann & I in the front, Matt & Taylor in the middle and Abby, Megan & Garrett in the back. It was a rainy, dreary day but we made it safely to the meet. First up, we faced Milan. Luke?s 220 guy was a hulk of a man but he didn?t back down, being very aggressive with his opponent. Luke ended up taking him down and after the first period, Luke was up, 4-1. He deferred and his man chose down to start the 2nd period. Luke broke him down, turned him and pinned him!! It is his first pin of the year and evens his record at 2-2. We ended up beating the Indians as a team as well, to even our record at 2-2. Next up, we faced the host Northeastern squad. Luke faced off against an even larger opponent this time. As it turned out, Garrett had faced him when he was a senior. Now this young man was a senior and last year he was a state qualifier. It showed as Luke was clearly outmatched. His foe toyed with him, taking him down and trying moves and letting him back up. Luke fought hard; but in the end he got pinned as the horn sounded to end the 1st period. His record is now 2-3. As for the team, we tied the Knights at 49 apiece. After going through the tiebreakers, we were awarded the win. Overall, we also won the 3-way meet and our team record is now 3-2 on the year. After spending only about 45 minutes at the meet, we found ourselves packing up and heading back home. It was one of the fasted 3-way meets we can remember. We came home in the rain and raided the fridge. We had a ton of leftovers from yesterday, as the kids brought home all the Thanksgiving food from Mom & Sandy?s house due to their fridge being on the fritz. We watched a couple Purdue games – including the Old Oaken Bucket game vs. IU that went into double overtime before yielding to the Hoosiers. It was a helluva game but the Boilers end their season with a 4-8 record. After Abby & I put the lights on the tree, we looked on the blog to see who?s turn it was to put on the first bulb ? the Ugly Orange Bulb to be precise. Luke got that privilege this year. All six of the kids helped us decorate the tree, which made it very easy and a really fast process. It turned out great like always. We watched the end of the Bucket game then flipped on the PU basketball team in a game played last night. They faced VCU in the 2nd round of the Emerald Coast Classic. This game turned out to be another barn burner. The Boilers held on to beat the Rams by only three to move to 6-2 on the year and move on to face Florida St in the championship game. We all took naps and Luke drove to the varsity basketball game in Batesville. Afterwards, I watched Ancient Aliens and In Search Of while Ann made Abby (and us) jalapeno popper dip that she had been nagging her momma about all weekend! We said goodbye to Garrett and Taylor but Megan stayed the night with us again. Luke went out running around with friends and ended up out at Kam?s house where he spent the night. The rest of us watched a movie (Angel has Fallen) on the big screen and enjoyed Ann?s dip then we played some more euchre. This time, it was the old farts vs. the kids. We beat the kids soundly in the first game but lost a close one in the second. Instead of a rubber game, though, the girls pooped out and so Matt & I watched the new ?IT, Chapter II? movie on the big screen. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos4/smp19.12.00.jpg" height="300" width="400" It was gorgeous when we woke up. We said goodbye to Matt that morning, who got out just before the clouds rolled in and it started raining. He got up to Greenwood before we realized he had forgotten a few things. I?ll have to bring them with me next weekend when we?ll meet up for Luke?s wrestling tournament in Indy. We slowly got around to cleaning up the house and doing our weekly household chores. Ann finished putting up the Christmas stuff on the TV stand and the fireplace mantle. She changed up both of them this year and they look great! I watched last night?s Purdue game vs. FSU. It was another great game, going into OT before the Boilers lost another close one. Luke came back from Kam?s house and said he had a great time, staying up too late. He cleaned up his room and his area of the family room, which was needed. Abby got all her stuff packed-up with Megan?s help and they headed back up to Franklin. Bu will only have about a week or so of classes before finals and her Christmas break begins. Right now, she is planning to take J-Term (Winter Term) off to work and stay with us so we?ll see her again real soon. We did a good job of clearing out the fridge today, sending food home with the kids and eating leftovers for lunch. Ann napped, Luke played Madden on the PS4 and I watched RedZone on the big screen on a cold, overcast afternoon and evening. Later, Luke went over to Grayson?s and Kam?s houses until curfew. Meanwhile, Ann & I continued cleaning out the fridge while watching some of our favorite DVR?d shows (FBI, SEAL Team and SWAT) and taking it easy. It was a relaxing way to wind down a fantastic week. Unfortunately, it must come to an end as we return to our normal routine tomorrow. But boy, this was a week we?ll never forget?

Next up is our Waybac section which includes a couple photo albums I came across in the closet. We lead off this week with Ann, Amy & Melvin at the Main St home in March 1984; then some good ones from our wedding, a few great ones from the ensuing reception and then some great pix from the honeymoon trip ? all in September 1995; and then we have a few more pictures from the Owens family picture in 1997.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we?ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu

Since I was a young boy, I always thought it was so cool how Mom & Dad would have Grandmaw & Grandpaw come stay with us during the holidays for days on end.

Tuesday had a sunny start to an overcast day. It was the last day of work for Ann this week and the last full day for me.

We were up early on Thanksgiving Day. Abby & Ann went out with Gigi to go shopping, as has been their tradition for decades (well, Ann & Sandy anyhow).

We enjoyed sleeping in on a sunny Sunday morning. It was gorgeous when we woke up.

Next up is our video segment which features one new family movie from this week as well as several from around the internet.

And that does it for this episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we?ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu

[1
