We?ve had yet another week fly past us. It was week 51 of 2019 as we continue hurtling towards the Christmas and New Year?s holidays?hard to believe we only have one week until 2020 is upon us. We received a few inches of snow, which made it really feel like Christmas around here. The temps dipped at the start of the week?but as the week wore on, we lost more and more of it as the temps slowly recovered from the low teens to the mid-forties by the weekend. Matt stayed up north and taught \/ coached in Zionsville and spent a lot of time with Taylor, of course. Abby enjoyed the week off from school and work, helping around the house, running errands for Ann and spent time with Garrett, Megan and Bri. Luke continued being a two-sport athlete, splitting time between wrestling and football. He spent a lot of time with friends as he wrapped up his school for 2019. He learned some valuable lessons this week, driving in the snow and ice. Ann had a long week of work but managed to finish up our Christmas shopping. I had a tough week at work and only managed to get in a little over six miles of walking. My diet was good?for the first half of the week. We won?t talk about the back half though? Two big selling points of staying in this part of the country are the changing of the seasons and family. One of the paramount points of the seasons is having snow on Christmas. But as I write this entry, almost all of our snow has melted and the forecast is for a green Christmas. At least we scored on the family portion of that this week. We enjoyed spending time with Maryann & Sandy as well as Tom & Barb this week. We got to see Rob & Sharon a couple weeks ago and we even ran into Vird & Belinda for a little bit today. The only ones we missed out on were Ron and Lynn?but we did talk to them over text for a bit?it?s not quite the same, but Dad had a good reason for staying home this year? It snowed all night but had stopped when we got up to go to work on Monday morning. I cleared snow off all the cars that morning. I?d say we received about two inches. We took the front way in to work to avoid the snow and ice on the country roads?and we?re glad we did since the roads were perfectly clear on the route we chose. Ann & I both had long days at work. I went out to lunch with Justin & Vic then walked about two miles in the mall because it was raining. It continued raining all the way home, but it eventually turned over to snow. Luke had a 2-hour delay for school then went to wrestling practice. Coach sent him home early because he tweaked his elbow and it looked like he had another skin issue. That evening, we weren?t even sure if he would even be able to compete the following day. Abby enjoyed sleeping in with Gary. They made spaghetti and then did the dishes as well as wash a big batch of towels for us. Gary went home that afternoon and then Megan came over for a while. Abs did chores around the house, which was very sweet of her. Our neighbor Ginny had an issue when getting her mail, as she fell and hit her head. An ambulance took her to the hospital to be checked out. She was fine and they released her later that evening. Luke went to Cam?s house for the evening while Abby hung out with us. Ann made Fireworks popcorn for dinner and we watched some fun animated DVR?d shows: Rick & Morty, Family Guy and The Simpsons?until the Colts game came on. We wished we hadn?t watched it, though, as they got demolished and are all but eliminated from the playoffs now. Luke came home a little early from Cam?s house to get some rest before his wrestling meet tomorrow. Megan came over for a while and the girls ended up running around town before coming back and Meggie ended up staying the night. The girls worked on sewing projects in Bu?s room until late while watching Rick & Morty reruns. Here are pictures from Luke?s wrestling meet at Jennings County last week.<\/p>\n

Luke had another two-hour delay on Tuesday morning. He had a fast day then helped setup the mats and bleachers at the Fieldhouse to get things ready for the home opener vs. East Central. Ann & I braved the snow and ice that morning on our way in to work. It took me a while to melt the ice and old Black Betty was not happy when we asked her to take us to work?but she got over it. We stopped at Mary?s house to pickup a dozen chocolate cakes for the hospital, as we do each year. We were surprised that Mary was available this year, seeing as to how she just had heart surgery! But the cakes turned out amazingly, as always! We got them safely delivered as the snow stopped about mid-morning. My day was fast but very busy and a little stressful, as was Annie?s. I took her to a meeting then walked for half an hour at the mall (where I saw Santa) before we left town early. We did some Christmas shopping then came home to get Meg & Bu and head over to the high school. The girls had a busy day of running errands for Ann & I. There was a decent crowd on-hand for the young Pirates. The bad thing is that we only had six wrestlers and gave up seven forfeits?so we had already lost before we even started. Luke wrestled up to 220 again. His guy was noticeably larger than him, unfortunately. Luke came out aggressive, which I loved. He attempted to shoot for a double leg but got stuffed and taken directly to his back via an unintentional choke hold and pinned. This will be the final match for him before Christmas as we enter a week and a half break until the next tournament. Thus far, all of his matches have either been a win or loss by pin! All the coaches and parents were very encouraging. He had his wrist taped up in order to keep him from flexing his muscle and tendon. Unfortunately, we didn?t get a chance to see if it helped or not?the match only lasted about 45 seconds. Afterward, we took the kids out for dinner at ElRep. We came home and watched some shows on the big screen with the dogs while the girls hung out in Ab?s room and continued sewing. They stayed up late and Megan ended up staying the night. Wednesday was Luke?s final day of the first semester and last day of school for 2019. We had a bitter cold start but thankfully no precip! Ann & I both had long days, full of putting out fires and going to meetings. I also started my end of the year rounds. I walked three miles in the mall that afternoon before we left town a little early to do more Christmas shopping. We didn?t get home until well after dark. No sooner did we get home than the girls went out to do more shopping in Tonya. It was the first time she?d been started since Abs got home; I think. The doors were frozen and didn?t want to latch after opening them. So, we made a new squirt bottle of isopropyl alcohol and got her all set. I ate some leftovers and promptly fell asleep. I ended up going to bed really early that night. When I looked at my phone, I saw that I?d logged 15K steps on the day. Luke went to wrestling practice after school before going out to Cam?s house until late. <\/p>\n

After going to bed early last night, I was wide away by 4 am on Thursday morning?so I went ahead and got up so I could continue editing pictures that I had started last night. Abby took a ton of pix at the wrestling tourney last weekend, which is awesome ? thx Bu!! It was a frigid morning in the low teens when Ann & I headed into work. Luke enjoyed his first day of Xmas Break by sleeping in. He had an early wrestling practice (that he was about 45 minutes late for) then had the rest of the day off. Meanwhile, Abs enjoyed sleeping in with the dogs. Ann & I had a very fast day at work then ended up leaving town early. We again went shopping after work and then ended up over at Mom & Sandy?s house to visit for a while. Luke and his friends were over there as well, where they were having dinner with Gma & Gigi. Abby drove up to New Castle that evening, where she stayed the night with Gary & his family. Luke went over to Cam?s for the evening again. He woke Ann & I up when he got home. We had fallen asleep watching TV (shock!). Once that happened, I was wide awake and stayed up to watch a couple more episodes of Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime as well as another episode of Star Trek Discovery on CBS All Access. I had to force myself to go to bed so that I could get up for work in the morning. I don?t know why I get so wired if I don?t go on to bed once I fall asleep on the couch? We talked to Dad & Lynn today. We learned that the old man had another back surgery. He seemed to pull through pretty good, so we hope he gets some relief from this procedure. I was the first one up and out the door on Friday morning. Ann got up a little later and went to work at the Greensburg office. Luke got up and went to wrestling practice that morning. He was actually on time today because I got him up before I left the house. Luke ran around with Oakley all day then they came back to the house later that evening. Abby stayed up in New Castle with Gary all day. They got together with Megan and his cousin and they made gingerbread houses. I had my annual Christmas party at work. I had a good time relaxing with Justin, Vic and the crew. I didn?t win any of the door prizes this year and had to wade through some drama with an employee. It didn?t have the outcome I expected but I guess it will be for the best? Luke and Oak got ready to go to the boys? basketball game that evening. The theme was ?ugly Christmas sweaters??? and Ann hooked them up. They looked good as they headed to the home opener vs. Jennings Co. We enjoyed a quiet evening with the dogs, watching DVR?d shows as well as a few more Star Trek Discovery. Afterwards, they came back with Ms. Jenna and watched A Christmas Story out in the family room. After they ran her home, they played PS4 all night and Oak stayed over with Lukey. Ann & I enjoyed sleeping in on Saturday morning, which was the winter solstice. We took it easy most of the morning before getting cleaned up and running errands. We ended up at Amy?s house where we visited with her, Jane & Ms. Mabel. While we were out, Abby came home from Gary?s house and got Luke & Oakley up. They ran to the store to get supplies to bake goodies all day with Ann. When we got home, I checked fluids while Luke vacuumed all the vehicles. Bri came over to be with Bu all day and the girls worked in the kitchen all afternoon, making our favorite holiday treats! Ann talked to Barb and they made plans to get together tomorrow for lunch. With that info, I decided to go ahead and knock out our weekly household chores today so we could enjoy time with Dad & Barb. Mom, Sandy & Pixie came over to hang out with the girls in the kitchen. Ann gave Gigi her first Christmas present ? an apron that we had embroidered at Jimmy?s shop, uptown. It says, ?Gigi?s Gourmet.??? I think she liked it! ???? They stayed for about an hour or so. Luke & Cam vacuumed out Barney & Black Betty then hung out in the family room, playing PS4. I finished up season 2 of Star Trek Discovery. I sure hope they have a 3rd season. The girls finished up in the kitchen and got everything cleaned up. All told, they made six different types of goodies and filled two big serving plates! Abby & I watched a couple movies on the big screen that night ? Ma and then the epic Avengers finale ? Endgame. We have lots of social media pictures to share.<\/p>\n

We enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday morning. We slowly got around to cleaning up and had a lazy morning before we loaded up the Hot Rod Lincoln and headed up to Indy to have a Christmas lunch with Dad & Barb. Luke did a great job of driving on the interstate and got us there without incident. This year, we went to a different place called Bravo! Cucina Italiana. It was outstanding! I had lobster bisque, a Cesar salad and a Sicilian Neapolitan pizza ? yum! We enjoyed catching up with them for a couple hours. After a few pictures we said our goodbyes and walked over to the Kroger. Of all places, who should we run into there?but Uncle Vird and Aunt Belinda. We stopped and talked with them for a bit before heading back home. Luke decided he wanted to nap on the way home instead of driving, so I took over captain duties and drove us home through some pretty thick holiday and game day (the Colts game let out about the same time we were driving around the 465 loop) traffic. We missed seeing the Colts win but got home in time to watch the Cowboys big game. It was essentially a playoff game ? a must win. Although the defense played good enough to win, the offense decided not to run the ball enough and tried to be a passing team. It didn?t work out so well for them and they lost to the Eagles – and are likely out of the playoffs now. As I told Matt that night, it may be a blessing in disguise as it may be the only way to get a new coaching staff in there? Ann & Abby made a bunch of Chex mix that evening. We watched last night?s SNL with Eddie Murphy ? it was the by far the best episode of the year and the best I?ve seen in many years! Megan came over that evening and we played a couple games of euchre and she ended up staying the night. It was a relaxing way to wind down another busy week before we start it all over again tomorrow morning.<\/p>\n
