Welcome to our 600th blog entry! Luke enjoyed a well-earned break this week, going to a couple wrestling practices but holding off on baseball workouts to clear his head and rest his body before he gears up for the spring season next week. He spent time hanging out with his friends and even made a little side money in the process. It was good to see a little more of him this week with the added downtime. Abby had a full week of classes at FC. We got to see her for a little while this week, which was nice. Matt had another week of teaching and coaching wrestling at Z-West. We enjoyed seeing him for a little while this week as well. Ann had a good week of work and did well with her knees. It was her fingers that gave her fits this week. I was hot and cold with my keto diet, having a couple cheat days this week. I still managed to lose another five pounds but it could?ve been more if I had hit my walking goal. Unfortunately, I fell short again – logging only about ten miles this week. I had a fast week at work and a nice, three-day weekend. The older dogs continued to adjust to their new little sister. And the new little fur baby continued to be all puppy. She is so sweet though; it?s hard to get or stay mad at her. The weather took a major downturn this week, reminding us that February is historically the coldest month of the year in this neck of the woods. It?s hard to believe that we?ve published 600 blog entries, starting all the way back in January of 2008. The kids have all grown up in these pages? Hello again and welcome to the latest edition of the Scheu Family Blog.<\/p>\n

We had a cold, damp start to the week on Monday morning. During our commute to work, Ann & I noticed that it was noticeably lighter during our drive in Black Betty that morning. Just last week, it was still dark when we got to Columbus but now, we start to see light as we leave the house. Ann & I had long days at work. Justin was off, following his surgery on Friday?so Vic & I celebrated his absence with lunch at the ?Buff in his honor. After work, I walked two and a half miles at the mall before picking up Annie and heading home. Luke went to school but didn?t last long as a stomach bug got him and he spent more time in the restroom than the classroom before giving it up and coming home early. He missed both wrestling and baseball practices that day. Coincidentally, his friends Oakley and Jenna also left school early today. Matt got me the rest of his info and I spent most of the night doing his taxes. Lola spent time in doggie timeout for being mean to Delilah again that evening. Apparently, Delilah has already started to discover she can manipulate our fence out back; so not only will I need to get out there and shore it up before she gets loose but we also need to seriously look at finally upgrading it this year. We?ve had that up since the tornado wiped-out our eight-foot privacy fence. Ann made Fireworks popcorn for dinner and we watched a couple DVR?d shows. Ann woke me up and we went on to bed. <\/p>\n

Luke was feeling much better on Tuesday morning, so he returned to school. It snowed on and off all day long but there was no accumulation. It even rained for a while. Ann & I took Barney into work that morning and I dropped Annie off at the hospital for a long meeting. I picked her up around noon and we went out for a date at Five Guys. She had more meetings in the afternoon while I taught an orientation class to our new recruits. When I finished up, I picked up Ann and we headed north to Zionsville. I didn?t even have time to exercise, unfortunately. We met up with Taylor at Zionsville Middle School ? rival to Matt?s Z-West MS. They were engaged in their annual Battle for the Nest contest. Basically, it is bragging rights to the city for wrestling prowess. It was exciting as Z-West was down early but came storming back to win it, pulling away to a 59-41 victory! It was cool ? all the kids wanted pictures with the Nest (the trophy, signifying an eagle?s nest ? the high school mascot) and Coach Scheumann. After photos, we took the kids out to eat at the Salty Cowboy to celebrate the big win. It was an upscale Mexican restaurant in downtown Zionsville. We said out good-byes and headed on home. Luke said he had a good day of school and wrestling then spent the night playing Fortnight. Unfortunately, he didn?t pay too good of attention to the dogs and Delilah tore up a few things while we were gone. We tried to watch shows on the TV but I fell asleep on the couch as usual.<\/p>\n

It rained the entire day on Humpday. Luke had school and wrestling then came home to play PS4. Ann went to a meeting in the afternoon but otherwise had a good day. Justin came back to work for a half day. Vic & I took him out to lunch at the ?Buff. I walked a 5K at the mall after work then picked up Annie and came home. We took it easy that night, hanging out with the dogs and watching a few DVR?d shows while I edited pictures and videos. Here are random pictures of our recent adventures.<\/p>\n

The dogs were up before the alarm again on Thursday morning. It didn?t matter since we got the phone call shortly afterward, telling us that Luke had a two-hour delay for school that day. There was less than a half inch of snow on the ground and it was wet snow, so we?re not sure why they called for a delay. Ann & I had a clear commute on the way into work. After a very fast day, I left early to take Ann to her meeting and then walked nearly 6K in the mall. Luke did not go to wrestling practice nor baseball practice that afternoon due to not feeling well again. Besides, he said, he needed a break for a few days. I also think he was troubled by a talk he had with his football coach that day. It seems that he wants Luke to move to offensive line because there was a shortage of linemen. I?m not sure what the hell is going on with that program any longer? I encouraged Luke to really recruit his friends and classmates to come out next year ? especially the big ones. Luke has worked hard to get a shot at catching\/running the ball, but I guess we?ll see. I hope to hell he isn?t disappointed yet again by this group of coaches? We made plans with Abby for tomorrow and took it easy, trying to stay warm as the temps dipped down near single digits overnight. Luke was excited to tell us that he had been asked to prom by a senior, so no he has to think of a cool way to ask her to the big dance! On Friday morning, we began a frigid Valentine?s Day in the single digits with windchills in the negative teens ? brrr! I was up early with the dogs and stayed up to edit videos. That evening, I was able to refine a robust 1700+ pix to a lean 350 for our 600th blog entry. Abby was a real shutterbug at Luke?s sectional tournament ? getting some great pictures for us to share this week ? thanks Bu! ???? I had the day off from work, so I dropped Ann off at her Greensburg office on the square and went on to a dentist appointment where I had a good checkup. Afterwards, I went out to Walmart and picked up household supplies then came home to let the dogs out. Next, I went to an optometrist appointment where I learned that I am old and my vision is getting worse with each passing year. I do get to try out some cool, new contact lenses to combat my stigmatism. Yay! I picked up Annie and we headed to Franklin to spend the afternoon with Abby. We grabbed her from campus and went out for lunch, downtown at Benjamin?s. It was quite tasty. Abs said she and Bri frequent it because they accept Ben Bucks plus their chicken bacon ranch panini is delicious. We went back to campus and hung out in her room, visiting with Bri for a while. Later, we went back uptown to visit a new record shop called the Electric Key. We picked up a couple LPs then went junking at Goodwill. Abs got a redneck chalice and a Steve Miller Band CD while I got a new Hot Wheels car. We said our good-byes and headed back home. We were only there long enough for Ann to change then we headed out to the high school where she did some fundraising for After-Prom at the boys? basketball game. Molly & Delilah came with us to keep me company on the ride back. LOL. I had planned on taking only Delilah (I figured it would be easier than trying to wrestle her back into her pin ? because there?s no way she can stay out in the house and it was too cold to stay outside). Molly looked at me and insisted she join us, so she came out. It was cool because she doesn?t require a leash any longer. I hope that ?Lilah can get that way eventually?. When we got back to the house, the girls and I watched some Dr Who and other DVR?d shows that Ann just doesn?t appreciate. Then the girls accompanied me again to go pick Ann up after she facilitated a successful round of Sky Shot along with a 50\/50 raffle. Meanwhile, Luke went to school and then had wrestling practice. It could be the last of the year, depending on how the boys do this weekend at semi-state. He came home to get cleaned-up then went to the basketball game where he worked in the concession stand with his friends as a fundraiser for the football team. After the game, he came home to play PS4 and hangout until Oakley came over late that night. After midnight, he & Oakley made some side money by being designated drivers until well into the morning. He ended up staying the night out at Oak?s house. While I was alone with the dogs that evening, Delilah did the funniest thing. She was sitting on the floor when she farted ? loudly. It scared her enough to make her turn around to smell her butt; she bit her tail and then sprinted out of the room and into the kitchen. Oh, that puppy! LOL. I got up early with the dogs on another cold Saturday morning. It was a pretty one with lots of sunshine early that morning. Lola was a butt towards the other dogs and wound up in the pin for a doggy time-out again. I enjoyed the lovely morning with some eggs & bacon while watching the NASCAR truck race at Daytona from last night as well as the next episode of A Year in Music and some Ancient Aliens. Meanwhile Ann slept in after being up late last night, waiting up to see what Lucas and Oakley were up to. After being off yesterday, it felt like Sunday all day?I could get used to this three-day weekend thing! When Luke came home, we went to AutoZone and picked up a new taillight bulb and came back and replaced it together. Next, we checked fluids in the vehicles then worked in the backyard a bit. We picked up all the stuffing that Delilah had strewn across the yard from the patio chair. We also mended the back fence and reinforced the southwest corner where the girls are trying to exploit a vulnerability to get to the two big dogs back there. Next, we went to Mom & Sandy?s house and swapped out their new license plates before heading to Taco Bell for a late lunch. We had planned to go uptown and do some junking but Ann wasn?t able to nap, so she asked as to pick her up some food. We decided to just stay home. Luke hopped on his PS4 again while Ann & I got caught up on our DVR?d shows until we fell asleep. <\/p>\n

We finally enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday morning before we began our weekly household chores. We went to Walmart and did grocery shopping for a couple hours that morning. It took two carts to get it all out to the car! Maybe now Annie will cook more?LOL! We got everything put away and Ann made pizzas for lunch. She & Luke had garlic bread pizza while I had a delicious cauliflower crust pizza and salad with her homemade Shallo?s ranch dressing. After that, we settled in for a lazy afternoon. While Ann napped and the dogs played outdoors, I wrote out the blog while watching Star Trek & Ancient Aliens until the Great American Race ? NASCAR?s Daytona 500 ? came on?but it was plagued with rain delays all afternoon until they finally postponed it until tomorrow evening. Instead, I watched all the weekend?s XFL games. It wasn?t too bad ? some of the rules are very interesting ? especially the kickoffs, extra points and clock changes inside of two minutes. We wound down the long weekend with the dogs watching Seven Worlds, One Planet while Luke ran around with his buddies out in the woods until late. It was a relaxing way to cap off the languid evening before we start it all over again tomorrow morning.<\/p>\n
