We welcomed the cooler air as the seasons changed to autumn, here in southcentral Indiana. We had the house opened up all week, which was nice. Matt had another full week of work, work, work up north. Abby completed her week of Rho Gamma during Rush Week at Franklin, which culminated with about a dozen new recruits for her sorority. We missed not seeing her this week, as her activities kept her busy at school. Luke continued to go to school this week as well. Football continued as well, even as there were some kids on quarantine. Ann & I both had good weeks at work and got to see some friends as well. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary this week, which was pretty cool. I finally managed to get my walking goal surpassed, logging 19 miles?but my feet were killing me this week – I think I need to get different walking shoes. I did play a little more frisbee golf ? four rounds ? but my elbow continues to be too sore to play any more than that right now. I think I need to start icing it each night. It was a big week, for sure. Milestones always make me reflective, so it?s been one of those weeks where it makes me really thankful for where we are in life right now ? despite all the stuff going on in the world right now. The cicadas are all pretty much gone at this point but the crickets are incredibly loud (could be that we just have the windows open?). The farmers hit their fields hard this week, which meant that the Scheu family had lots of allergy issues ? including the dogs, which have been especially itchy lately. It was definitely a week to remember? Hello again and welcome to the latest installment of the Scheu Family Blog. <\/p>\n

It was another cold start to the week on Monday morning with temps in the 40s again. It was our first trip back to work in Black Betty and she did great for us. It was a long day for me but nothing too hectic, thankfully. Our annual State Licensing survey began that day, but due to COVID, it was a virtual survey. It is much less stressful, as you might imagine. When I got on the scales that morning, I lost by one pound again to Justin (how does he keep doing that??). So, lunch was on me. We grabbed Vic and went to Five Guys for a burger and Cajun fries. I had a fast afternoon, got out of work late and only managed to walk two miles before it was time to pickup Ann. When we got back to the house, we got her set up to pull pictures for her go scrapbooking. While she weeded through photos, I went out to the park and played 18 holes of frisbee golf. I thought I had stretched enough, but towards the end of my first round, my lower back started to tighten up and my game suffered as I wound up two over par for the day. When I got home, Luke was already home from school and football practice. He is excited to be playing ball this week, despite Franklin Co. backing out due to COVID. We had leftover chili ? how is it possible to be better the second night? Still, it always is somehow. Later, we binge-watched several more episodes of Outlander. Despite being the first day of Autumn, it was actually warmer than it?s been in a couple weeks. Granted, we started off in the 40s, but it warmed to about 80 degrees that afternoon. Abby came down to run to Best Buy with me to see if we could get a microphone working on her laptop so she can do Zoom. Ann came with us and afterward we went to lunch at Five Guys. We could not get her new Bluetooth headphone\/mic to work so I wound up ordering a wired one from Amazon. She?ll have to come down again next week when it comes in. In the meantime, I recommended using the laptop for the video and her phone on speaker for her audio. After a fast afternoon, I walked four miles around the airport property on a very warm afternoon. After dropping off Ann, I snuck out to CVS to pickup her gift (UPS required a signature on the delivery and we were at work, so I was thrilled to find out CVS was an option). While picking up the package, I saw a handle of her favorite spirit ? Grey Goose ? at the counter, so how could I refuse? I went to the park afterward and played a good game of frisbee golf on a lovely evening. Although I threw a 25, I had an outside shot at 22, had I hit a few long shots. I got home just before the sunset. Luke was already in the shower after a hard football practice and long day of school. He pretty much hung out in his room (it looks nice now that he?s got it picked-up and has that new bed in there) and played PS4 and watched Netflix. I grated the block parmesan from Jungle Jim?s and Ann made cheesy Fireworks popcorn for dinner ? yum! That night, we binge-watched our new favorite show again ? Outlander ? as we wrapped up season 4 and began season 5.<\/p>\n

Wednesday started out as another cool day and never got warmer than 70, thanks to the overcast skies all day. Molly had licked a huge patch of fur off her butt (she did the same thing to her tail a couple weeks ago). We can?t find any critters on her, so we assume it is allergies?poor thing? It was Ann & I?s 25th wedding anniversary. I surprised her that morning with a John Hardy diamond bracelet and a half gallon of Grey Goose before we left for work. We had a fast day. Justin took me out to eat to the Chi-Buff but it did not agree with me and I don?t think we?ll be going back for a while since this is the second time it?s done this to us. I walked three miles out on a nice afternoon ? not too warm, not too cool?just right. We came home and let the dogs out. Phyllis and Michael came over and gave us a very nice Christmas ornament with a big 25 and our names and the dates etched in it. She is so sweet? We waited to see what Luke was done before we made plans to go out for dinner. Turns out, he went to El Rep with his teammates after football practice so Ann & I went on to dinner without him. Of all places, we settled on Stone?s in Millhousen. We enjoyed a romantic dinner by ourselves in their family dining room. We were hoping to fill our Growler, which we brought along. Unfortunately, Excise will not allow them to fill them any longer since they now have their dining room and bar opened back up ? bummer! We still had a couple pints of Quaf On! Six Foot Strawberry Blonde ale. It is so good on tap. We had the fried chicken, which is their specialty. We ate one and brought one home for tomorrow night?s dinner. We also had their salad bar and some of the best potato soup I?ve ever eaten. I had chicken livers as well that were really yummy. We also got a couple pieces of their peanut butter pie to bring home. When we got home, we binge watched a few more episodes of season 5 Outlander?and of course at that delicious pie! It was also Dad Scheu?s bday along with Uncle Keith and Aunt Sharon?s was yesterday. I texted Keith & Aunt Shar and called Dad & Barb (it is always good to catch up with them) while I was out exercising. That night, Ann gave me a neat penny key chain that had our marriage date on it and I got my Christmas gift early ? an all-original, magenta 1971 Olds 442 Hot Wheels car! It is complete and I would estimate the grade to be about a C7-. This has been a Holy Grail for me for decades. My neighbor Jerry Campbell had one in his collection back in the 1970s and he always won our races with it. He would never trade it to me and now that I finally have one, I absolutely love it! We were back up and out the door early on Thursday morning as we headed back into work and school. It was stuffy in the house but outdoors it as nice and cool. I guess the insulation is still good, huh?! Ann had a long day while mine was pretty good, actually. I walked three miles outdoors on a warm afternoon after work. We swung past Needlers on the way home to pickup supplies to make a dish for card night. We had to clean-up quite the mess when we got home. As Annie worked her magic, I went to the park and played a round of frisbee golf, throwing very well. I had a 2-under-par 25 but it could?ve been a 23 if I had hit two throws that bounced off the goal. I came home and Ann & I chatted with Luke, who came home after school and practice. He was concerned that his rear shocks were broken and malfunctioning. I told him to call Jerry and learn more before he got too carried away with it. He went out with his buddies that night. I met up with the band of merry men at Bewley?s B&B Bar. It was again a small turnout with only Bryan, Shawn, Rick & I. ?But it was the best night of food we?ve had in a couple years. Besides Ann?s jalapeno popper dip, we also had grilled chicken wings, mac & cheese with 5 different bricks of cheese (!) and a carb-free pizza with a pork rind crust ? yum!! We watched the NFL game and enjoyed long night of cards. I was down early but rebounded to about break even. We had a lot of fun, but we hope that more of us can join us in the coming weeks? The dogs had me up early on Friday morning. Even though they had been out at eleven and again at midnight, they had quite the mess in the house that morning. I?m about over this behavior. I can see a possible future of us being a one-dog family in the near future? Luke went to school and I ran Ann through the Dunkin drive thru before dropping her off at her downtown office. I came home to load up Betty White and head over to Mom & Sandy?s house to mow and trim and do a couple little things around the yard for them. I came home and mowed the front yard before Ann called, saying she was ready to be picked up. We ran to the store to pickup our weekly supplies. We came home and I mowed the back yard and trimmed for the first time in nearly a month. We grabbed some leftover chicken and Ann napped while I edited pictures and videos for this week?s blog until it was time to leave that evening. Luke came home briefly after getting his Jimmy John?s from Gma. He felt good about his chances that evening, as we did. It was a later start due to Bluffton having to travel a couple hours to get to the game. It was Homecoming that evening, so there were a few extra folks at the game, but not as crowded as years past. We got off to a fast start, coming right down the field and scoring but then gave it right back by allowing the ensuing kickoff return to score. After that, the defenses settled down the rest of the quarter. We scored twice more and the defense really stepped up to shut down the Tigers and the Pirates went to the half, up 21-7. Mom, Sandy & Pickles, Bryan & Angie, Angie?s parents, Rick & Lynn and the Wests all sat with us that gorgeous evening. ?And it was a perfect night for football with temps in the mid-sixties. Hannah was on the Homecoming Court, which is why her family and the Bewleys came to the game. Unfortunately, she didn?t win but she should?ve and looked fabulous that night. She looked so grown up! The Pirates looked pretty good in the 3rd quarter but did turn the ball over. However, the Pirates got a takeaway as well and it were only up by 1 TD going into the 4th. The Pirate offense was able to score pretty quickly, which left the defense on the field for a majority of the game. Because most of our defensive starters also play on the offense, they were exhausted at the end of the game and couldn?t? stop Bluffton from coming right down the fiend and scoring. Luke was called for a controversial helmet-to-helmet foul (he went to tackle the guy low and he spun around and lowered his head when they made contact. Coach took him out of the game for whatever reason and they went 60 yards on the very next play to score a TD. We battled back and managed to get a field goal with 2 minutes to play to go up 3. The coach lost his mind at that point and pulled Luke (the middle linebacker and captain of the defense) out of the game to put in a more pass-defense lineup. However, Luke is one of only four players to have interceptions this year and one of only two to return them for scores. He was pissed and you could tell by how antsy he was on the sideline, pleading to go back into the game. His requests fell on deaf ears and they moved the ball down the field and scored again. We managed to make a final push down the field with only a few seconds on the clock but time expired on us and we lost a heartbreaker, 30-33. It was a fun game to watch ? very competitive ? but it sucked because we were on the short end of the outcome. Luke?s stats: on offense, he had two pancakes. Defensively, he had six solo tackles and 8 assists to go along with 5 QB hurries. Luke went to the Homecoming festivities afterward, but he said it wasn?t any fun. There was no dance and they were playing a movie or something so he and his buddies went out to eat and then he just came home to shower, ice and go on to bed. He was completely exhausted and, of course, very disappointed that they let one slip away that evening? Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.<\/p>\n

The dogs had us up way to early again on Saturday morning. After cleaning up the routine accidents, I joined the dogs outdoors and we had some porch time while we woke up on a foggy morning. Ann got her stuff all packed up and we drove out to Burney, where she enjoyed the day with her scrapbooking friends. I went to the store and wound up doing some Hot Wheels hunting as well. I swung by McDonald?s and surprised Luke with breakfast. He was still very sore. He still had issues with cramping again last night and had to be treated by the trainer at least twice that I saw. Afterward, I checked fluids in the vehicles. The Hot Rod Lincoln is leaking coolant and I encouraged Luke to call Jerry and set up an appointment to get it looked at before it got worse and he got stranded somewhere at an inopportune time. He went out with his buddies that day, eating lunch at Batesville and then later driving to Greenwood to do some shopping. That left me with a quiet day with the pups. Delilah tore up the new fence we put up in the back corner and got out while I napped inside the house. Molly followed her out but only went into the Mrs. Dodd?s house while Delilah was completely gone. I called for her but she didn?t come. I went inside and had Luke come out while I prepared to drive around the back neighborhood. Before I could leave, Delilah came back. Luke & I mended the fence and reinforced it the best we could. We may have to do something sooner that we want to. Later, I caught her out there, pulling at the fence, trying to pop the staples and zip ties off the fence?so she went to timeout in her pen for a while. Molly and I went for a ride in the truck to get money out of the ATM for Abby. She and her classmates raised money for a former teacher (and parent of a classmate) that passed away. The kids are having a tree planted on the school property in his name, which is really cool. The dogs and I napped that afternoon until Annie called, saying she was ready to be picked up. Lola and I drove out to Burney in Barney to bring Annie home. She stuck the Stone?s chicken in the oven for dinner that night. As we finished eating, I went to go check on the dogs out back and wouldn?t you know it?Delilah had pulled the bottom of the fence out and eloped again. And of course, Molly followed her to go exploring also. I jumped in the truck and went out back to find the girls. Molly came back, so I was able to pick her up and put her over the fence. I found Delilah across the street, so she hadn?t gone far. I got her in the truck and put her in her pin when we got home. She had also chewed up another cushion from the porch furniture. So, she?ll have to be on a leash again?and it?s too bad because she had been doing so good this last month or so. Ann & I enjoyed a quiet night of binge-watching several episodes of Outlander while I checked in my recent Hot Wheels finds. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.<\/p>\n

I was awakened early on Sunday morning by texts and phone calls from work as we had an IT security issue that brought down our entire network. I sat in on numerous conference calls and will have my hands full next week. Thankfully Vic was at work, mowing, when I received the directive to disconnect the server and power off all the computers. I was able to walk Victor through the building and he saved me from having to drive in to do all of it (thanks buddy, I owe ya lunch!). Luke went out with his buddies that afternoon while Ann made Fireworks popcorn for lunch and we watched a new show on HBO called The Third Day before flipping on some football for the rest of the afternoon. We napped on and off and did our weekly household chores. Ann ordered Papa John?s pizzas and Luke had Ethan over for dinner. We watched game film on the big screen and then turned on Red Zone to watch the Colts win and the Cowboys lose. We took it easy that night as I called in a few times to get updates on my work issue as I wrote out this week?s blog and html code. <\/p>\n

Cathy?s wedding in Vegas; then on to 2003 pix: June – the girls staying with Mom & Sandy while Ann gives birth to Luke; July ? 4th of July fun at Gma?s, uptown and at our house as well as Gigi? bday later that month; and Nov ?
