We had a very busy week since we last touched base. Matt had a grinding week, teaching in Zionsville as well as cooking in Carmel and then working at home ? grading papers and making lesson plans. He was pretty worn out when we saw him this weekend. We saw Abby quite a bit this week. She only had a half week of classes, enjoying her Fall Break from school. She came home and spent the extra-long weekend with us. Luke had a short week as well, due to parent-teacher conferences. He had a big game in the first round of Sectionals this weekend that was possibly the best of his high school career so far. Ann enjoyed spending time with friends and enjoying some hobby time. I also enjoyed seeing friends and some hobby time as well. All in all, it was a really good week for the Scheu family. I still came up well short on my exercise goals with only 8 miles of walking. I did get a chance to play some Frisbee golf, playing two rounds and shot pretty well. It really felt like autumn this week. Nearly all the leaves have fallen off our trees. It got really cold a couple times and there was a lot of precipitation as well. It was funny; the dogs did so much better while Abby was here with us. Too bad she had to go back to school. Who knows?with the 3rd surge of the COVID, maybe the schools will go back to virtual classrooms? Although I would love it, it would kill my business (along with everyone else?s) and be a huge hit to our economy so I sincerely hope that doesn?t occur? It was back to work and school on Monday morning. It came way too early for Ann & I. It was rainy and nasty all day. I don?t think it stopped raining until late that night. I had a very busy day, trying to just organize and finally catch up all my paperwork that has backed-up for three weeks. I still had several meetings as well. I finished up the majority of loose ends with our IT system recovery efforts. I did not have any time for exercise that afternoon, unfortunately. It was probably for the best as it was awfully wet and cold. Ann & I met Abby for dinner that evening at the Columbus Pump House building where the Upland Brewing Company is located. Bu brought her roommate Bri with her that evening for her +1, LOL. It was my first time there but Ann had been there previously. We got Abby to have a couple beers, even though she doesn?t yet appreciate them yet. She had a couple of sour ales ? the Iridescent and a Raspberry. Ann stuck with what she knew ? the Wheat Ale. I tried a Champagne Wheat and then a Wheat Ale. They were good, but not my favorite. I did hear that they are building a Big Woods at the outlet mall. It was more of the same on Tuesday with it being a cool, drizzly start to the day and stayed overcast all day. I?m not sure if it rained or not since I didn?t leave the penthouse until a little after 2 pm. I finally got on top of most of my paperwork and can now set my focus on my monthly reports tomorrow. I was able to get out and walk for about 30 minutes after work, getting in about a mile and a half of exercise. I was hoping to get in some frisbee golf that evening, but it was just too wet. I remember the last time I tried to play on a wet course. I wound up losing my disc! Instead, I stayed in after we got all the pee cleaned-up. Molly is getting progressively worse with her accidents. I?m not sure how much longer we can keep doing this, unfortunately? The first shipment from the Metallica vinyl club finally arrived in the mail that evening. It is supposed to be one per quarter?then COVID hit and put a wrench in things. I had to break it out before I even got changed out of my work clothes. I thew it on the Bluetooth turntable and cranked it up. This record has a pair of recordings from Castle Donington in 1987. The A-side is For Whom the Bell Tolls and the B-side is Leper Messiah. It rocks. It came with a cool poster and membership card too. LOL. Reminds me a little of when I was a kid and joined the KISS Army in the ?70s. we ordered Chili?s takeout and Luke ran to pick it up after he got home from football practice. We watched The Hangover II and then turned on the World Series.<\/p>\n

It was another rainy day on Wednesday. It was a big warmer and it finally stopped raining eventually that afternoon. I finally wrapped up the computer project and was allowed to move on to resuming my work life where I had left back in September. I was able to get out on time and wound up walking a 5K on a surprisingly humid day. Luke was in the paper for football again. It?s funny that his stats vary so much from one source to another. The totals that show up on Max Preps differ from those that are in the paper and still different from my tallies. Abby came home from school that night. The dogs were so excited! We were too, but we knew she was coming. The dogs didn?t leave her alone the entire time. Lola was thrilled to be able to sleep with Abby again that night. Ann made Fireworks popcorn for dinner, enjoyed a couple of whiskey sours (the first with Yukon Jack and the second with Disaronno) while we watched The Hangover III then turned on game 2 of the World Series. We headed back into work on a foggy Thursday morning. Luke had the day off due to Parent-Teacher conferences. It turned out to be a gorgeous day, warming all the way up to 80 degrees. I got only walked about a mile and half before we had to leave town early to get to the high school and meet with Luke?s teachers. Luke called me that afternoon as he and Brayden had a little car trouble. I was able to calm them and get them pointed in the right direction and everything worked out well, but I was proud of him for helping his friend. As it turned out, that was a not a one-time feature of his character. During the conferences, the teachers all loved him. We heard a special story from one teacher that was very inspiring. It made us very proud of our youngest son. He had football practice late that evening, starting at 6 pm. Afterward, they had their first team dinner of the year. He came home afterward and visited for a little while before showering and going to his room for the night. Abby enjoyed sleeping in that morning then went up to see Gary, where they attended a funeral before she returned home. I got in two rounds of frisbee golf at the city park. It was twilight so I had to hustle through the course. It had been about a week so I was a little rusty at first, scoring a 26 on the first round but tallied a 24 on the second pass. I had a shot at a PB 22, but the disc bounced out of the basket twice on me. Abs went to ElRep with Megan and brought me home fish tacos. When Ann went to bed, Bu & I played Mario Kart on the big screen until the wee hours of the morning. Here are pictures of recent additions to my Hot Wheels collection.<\/p>\n

I was able to sleep in on Friday morning while Abby got up to get coffee with Ann and drop her off at the downtown office. I slowly got up and finished editing pictures, which I had started last night. I got cleaned-up later that morning then Abs & I picked up Annie and went to lunch just down the block from her work at Tarouya. We enjoyed a good Chinese lunch then dropped off Ann at home so she could nap. Bu & I went to Walmart for our weekly supplies run and stopped by the liquor store to pickup some more of the salted watermelon whiskey as well as a bottle of cotton candy wine. I dropped off the supplies and Abby and ran to my doctor appointment. I was supposed to have my annual physical but due to COVID, that was pushed back to the spring ? which was fine by me; I don?t like my annual physicals at my age? I came home and worked on this week?s blog entry while the girls and dogs napped while watching the weekly SVU marathon on ION TV. Before we knew it, it was time to load up the car and head over to Mom & Sandy?s house where they lent us the Escape for the trek down to Charlestown. That?s where Luke & the varsity Pirates football team played in the first round of Sectionals. Abby made the 90-minute trek with us down Hwy 3 that evening. We headed there under the threat of rain and t-storms that evening, so we were just hoping that we could get the game in that night. It was a hell of a drive as it stormed really hard on our way down to the southern part of the state. When we got there, they were already on an hour delay and eventually would be delayed an additional 45 minutes as the storms broke up. We eventually kicked off at about 915 at a surprisingly beautiful complex. We were surprised to here the announcer actually doing live commercials not only during the game but especially during timeouts. The home team was also called the Pirates and they were also blue & white, so there were many similarities. Their staff and fans were all very cordial and welcoming and we enjoyed our time there. As for the game itself ? it was never really a game as our defense was absolutely dominant. In the first four series, the D scored a safety then had an interception, forced a punt then forced a fumble. The offense had excellent starting field position and before we knew it, it was halftime and our Pirates held a 29-0 lead. We got the ball to start the second half and after another TD, the boys were able to invoke the mercy rule of a running clock when they went up by 35 or more, making the second half fly by and mercifully get the game over quickly. It rained on and off and the wind whipped the entire time, dropping the ?real feel??? temp into the chilly 30s. Still, it was a perfect night for football and our Pirates got the shut out and moving on to the next round of Sectionals next week with a final score of 36-0. Luke played very well, leading the defense both with tackles and spiritually as well, as his head was firmly in the game ? one of the best games of his high school career. Luke?s stats: 15 tackles: 11 solo, 4 assists with a pair of tackle for losses, 1 pass deflection and a pancake on the offense. We made it home safely. We dropped off Annie at home so she could get on to bed and Bu & I went through Taco Bell and came home and watched a new episode of Family Guy before falling asleep on the couch at some point? Ann was up early on Saturday morning so she could head to Lawrenceburg with Shawna and friends to spend the day scrapbooking. I got up with her to load her stuff into Rhonda?s truck and sent them on their way. I went out with the dogs then we flopped on the couch and watched several DVR?d shows before Abby got up. Once she got out of bed, we ran a few errands around town. Luke helped me get the air conditioners put away for the winter. Luke went to work at Hibbett?s that afternoon while Abs and I ran to Batesville to find a sour ale similar to the one she liked at Upland, earlier this week. We finally found one and then stopped for lunch at Lil? Charlies before coming back home. We sat in the bar and had a couple of their Long Islands (well, Bu?s was a Long Beach) and then they had a special *pink* drinks that was part of a fundraiser for breast cancer?how could we resist? Their Rueben was just OK but the pub cheeseburger was the bomb! We stopped by to see Luke at Hibbett?s for a little while and then came home to get cleaned up before I went out to the Sunken Boat Bar to meet up with our friends, who were celebrating the end of this year?s magical volleyball season. They went undefeated?until today when they lost to Silvercreek in the Regionals. They finish the season at 21-1. It was a disappointing loss and a sad finale to Hannah?s volleyball career. We celebrated with Bryan & Angie, Bob & Pam, Rick & Lynn, Shawn and a few others. Abby surprised me by showing up out there a little while later. She had planned to go up to New Castle to see Gary but those plans fell apart. I was thrilled that he came out to hang with the old folks for a while. Luke helped Ann unload her bags and bring everything into the house that night. He had Oakley & Ethan over to spend the night and they ordered Pizza King for dinner. It was a chicken, bacon, ranch one and they even saved me a couple pieces (thx boys!). By the time we got home, Ann was already in bed but the boys were up playing Among Us, a new online game that they even pulled in Garrett and a couple others. I went on to bed, worn-out from staying up so late the last couple nights. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.<\/p>\n

We enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday morning. Ann & I went outside to hang with the dogs for a while on a cool start to the day. Abs eventually got up and played her Switch online with Matthew. Ethan went home and then Oak followed suit, leaving Luke alone in his room, playing solo on the PS4. We eventually got around to our weekly household chores and watched some SNL and NASCAR. Molly & I checked fluids in the vehicles, sealed up the a\/c?s in the garage and blew the leaves off the drive so Ann won?t fall when she goes to get in and out of the car. Matt came down and had lunch with Gma. Luke did some stuff around the house before joining Matt at Mom & Sandy?s house. Ann, Bu & I got cleaned up and headed over to join the others as they insisted on celebrating my birthday. I asked them to cancel it due to COVID but they weren?t going for it. Sandy made sausage balls (one batch with spicy sausage!). They sang to me and we had cake & ice cream. I got some Hot Wheels to go with the ones we found yesterday. This week, I finished off my 1972 collection by adding a Mercedes-Benz C-111, a Funny Money and a Snake Rear Engine Dragster. ???? Luke went to work and Matt, Jamie and I watched the end of the football games (OK, I napped but the other guys kept me updated) during the close finishes on four games. We came back to the house and did stats on Luke?s game while the kids played a game on their Switches. We said goodbye to Matt and then Abby, who both headed back up north. Ann & I had a quiet evening. I worked on the blog and switched between the NASCAR race (eventually got rained out), NFL game (went into OT on the final play of regulation) and the World Series (Rays had their chances) while Ann read and eventually went on to bed. <\/p>\n

Next up is our Waybac segment which features our final round of Uncle Goon pix from his funeral and our first round of the next group of pictures from Dee-Dee?s camera ? this time in 2004. We lead off with Uncle Chuck: 1950s- in his baseball uniform and Chuck Taylor high-tops at the Highland home; 1960s- with Aunt Judy & Cathy as well as clippings from the paper when he made the Honor Roll in college; 1970s- at his Indy apartment; 1980s- on John?s plane and with the fam at John & June?s Lingle home; 1990s- with the ladies of his life plus Tom and with the Big Six at one of the many weddings of that decade; 2000s- with Cat and then with Cindy; and then we move on to the 2004 pix: April ? Easter at our home and on the square with the Bunny; May ? Dixon Dance Revue at the high school; July ? fireworks on the 4th at our home; then a fun day of Fair Parade and the 4H fair (including a Duke Tomato concert!) and also the Indy Blues Fest (is that Bonamassa??) as well as Gigi?s birthday party at our home; September ? Abby?s birthday party at our house; November ? Thanksgiving on Main St; December ? Christmas fun: Christmas Day and Christmas Eve on Main St. as well as some church stuff. This is gonna be a fun batch of pictures to see over the coming months?<\/p>\n
