The Coronavirus continued to dominate discussion ? well that and the election results were still topics of conversation this week as well. As the threat of COVID grows, not only around the country but especially in our area of southeast Indiana, we prepare to hunker down again. Thankfully, as we begin to retreat indoors, many of our favorite TV shows returned to the small screen this week. For now, Matt continues to split his classroom time between children who attend in-person and those that are doing e-learning?as if it wasn?t tough enough teaching special education. Open mats continue for wrestling, so he spent extra time at the school – making his days even longer. His school moved to hybrid learning but he has been doing this for weeks already. He also worked at the restaurant in his down time. We missed seeing him this week. In fact, I don?t think I even texted with him this week?so I look forward to spending time with him next week. Abby had a full week of classes at FC. They continue to do regular testing for COVID and their numbers rose sharply this week, causing the school to declare that after the Thanksgiving break, they were moving to e-learning but campus would remain open. The students have the choice to either stay home or work from their dorms. In this way, the school won?t have to refund any $$ for room and board. We visited Abs for a couple hours this week but look forward to her coming home for at least a few days (and maybe longer?). Luke continued to do e-learning from home. To make matters worse, sports were cancelled this week so he didn?t attend any wrestling practice and now his first tournament has been cancelled again. He did some workouts around the house and at the YMCA, taking advantage of what he could. He worked a few hours at his job and spent time with friends when he could. But mostly he was a good boy, staying home to stay safe. Mom & Sandy and Dee & Jamie all sequestered themselves due to the COVID exposure. Testing would be mostly good but not all? Ann & I had fast weeks at work, dealing with challenging patients and trying to stay safe and open during a worsening pandemic. I renewed my commitment to my diet and exercise, losing about ten pounds this week. As for exercise, I fell short of my goal, managing only about twelve miles of walking but I was pleased to play another few rounds of frisbee golf before it gets too cold to get out and do it. Yes, it?s been a long, stressful week but it?s just another in a line of them that has been the year 2020? Hello again and welcome to the latest installation of the Scheu Family Blog.

It was back to work and school for us on a chilly Monday morning. Although the wind advisory had expired, it was still fairly strong and sustained all day. Luke had spent the night at Oakley?s house last night and by the time he got home, all the piddle pads were full in the kitchen. We decided to pin the dogs in there so the Rumba wouldn?t run over any contraband from the pups ? we don?t want any repeats of that(!) ? and make any messes. He did his e-learning and watched a movie before heading on to wrestling practice that afternoon. Dad B had a procedure that afternoon in New York, where he had a play date at a cath lab. Lynn texted us to keep us updated. Everything went very well and he didn?t need any stints or anything! There was some blockage, so the doc will adjust some medication and he was discharged later that evening. He wound up calling us that night and he was in great spirits. He said he felt good and was still walking each day, though he isn?t able to do as much as he would like?but he?s getting better every day. Ann & I had fast days. Granted, it was still Monday?and as such, there was patient drama. However, to keep the day from dragging, we visited Jami in the early afternoon to get our haircuts. After work, it was just gorgeous outside. The wind was a little nippy ? but otherwise it was a perfect day for a walk?not a cloud in the sky. I walked about three and a half miles that evening before picking up Annie and heading back to town. It was Mom O?s 82nd birthday so we stopped to give her a bday card and gift. Although she was keeping her distance, we were able to visit through the storm door. She looked good and said she didn?t feel a day over eighty! LOL Both Ann & I had called her earlier that morning (separately) and sang to her. She said we should go to church more often since we sing so well?ya, right! That evening, Luke came home and talked to us for a while. We watched the virtual Letter Jacket Ceremony on YouTube (I?ll have that for you next week). It is very nice that the school has businesses that donate the jackets to the children (I think that?s the only way you can get one?I don?t believe they even sell them). Luke was among 66 student-athletes that earned a varsity letter last year. He actually earned two of them ? one for football and one for wrestling. He went out with one of his buddies for a couple hours that evening. We talked to him about choosing one friend group and staying within that ?bubble??? to minimize his exposure to the virus. We took it easy on a ?find your own??? night (as in find your own dinner). We watched a few DVR?d shows and then began a new one on HBO called Murder on Middle Beach. We both fell asleep to it and went on to bed. We?ve been so sleepy these last couple weeks since DST ended? Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos5/lp20.11.04.jpg" height="400" width="300" but work. There was an alarm that they mistakenly thought was the fire panel. Thankfully, it was just the generator being cranky. It was down around the freezing mark again that morning and the wind was still pretty strong, so I?m sure it was just complaining that it was cold. Yes, Genny, we?re all cold? The generator guy was just there yesterday to do the semi-annual PM, so I?ll have to call him and see what he thinks is up. I can?t have that alarm going off every night and I certainly don?t want calls at 5 am if I can help it? I dropped off Ann at the downtown office and went on to Columbus. About mid-morning we got the call from school we had been dreading?the cancellation of all sports through the end of the month. That means that Luke?s wrestling tourney next weekend is now a no-go. Man, we need that vaccine! Luke met up with Ann for lunch and then picked up Alex and worked-out at the YMCA for a couple hours. I had a fast day of finishing up all my reports for the month?better late than never. Hopefully, I can now get caught back up from the month I lost battling the cyberattack in October. I got out a little late and it was a little colder than I wanted, so I was going to go to the mall. Instead, I decided to head back home and see if Ann needed picked up. Turns out, Luke was getting her so that cleared me to play a little frisbee golf. Let me tell you; the disc does not fly as far in the sub-40-degree cold ? especially when the ?real feel??? is below freezing. I would say my tee shots, on average, were about 35 feet shorter than normal. And the wind was still strong out there, making putting a challenge. I felt good to get out of there with not losing my disc to the pond and just a one-over-par 28. Luke went out with his friends for a little bit but came home at a decent time and played on his PS4 until God knows when. Meanwhile, Ann & I chilled with the dogs on the couch and recliner, under the blankets trying to keep warm on a chilly night. We watched a few DVR?d shows and fell asleep in the living room again. Here are Luke?s pictures from this football season.

I was up early again on a cold Wednesday morning in the twenties. This time it was my c-pap. I need a new nose piece as it has started leaking when the pressure gets higher towards the end of my sleep cycle. It probably needs to be re-fit as well since I have tinkered with it these last few months, trying to get it to stop leaking. We had to let the car warm-up to get the frost off the windows before we left for work. We both enjoyed fast days at work. I had a good cardiologist appointment that morning before work and won?t have to see her for another year! Justin took me out for lunch to the China Buff where we hadn?t been in a couple weeks. I finished up my monthly reports and then went out to exercise. I managed to get in a 5K on a sunny but cool afternoon around 50 with a strong breeze. We were excited when we got home because there was a fresh pail of Fireworks popcorn waiting for us on the porch! We had a little porch time with the dogs and then Ann made cheesy popcorn for dinner and we watched the season premieres of some of our favorite shows like FBI, FBI Most Wanted and a new show called Big Sky. Meanwhile, Luke had another day of e-learning from the house. He said he finished pretty early and then played video games the rest of the day. He didn?t work out that day, which wasn?t the end of the world, but we reminded him that his competition is still going to practices and will have their matches?he won?t, which puts him at a disadvantage. He wound up going out with Cam that night for a while. Mom & Sandy hadn?t been feeling well and decided to get COVID tests. Sandy?s came back today and it was positive so they?re now quarantining at home. I spoke to Rob and Ann talked to Sharon. They?re still coming down and now they?re going to help us cook Thanksgiving dinner! Ann?s never taken on an endeavor such as this size before, so it should be interesting! Here are a few pictures from new additions to my Hot Wheels collection.

As has become the norm, the dogs had me up a 5 am. I guess they didn?t get the memo that there was a time change!? I spent my extra time working on this week?s blog entry. I finished up editing the pix and vids and got them all uploaded. I also had time to shore up a special folder on my phone?s music collection in anticipation of Abby?s return (yes, it?s country music). It was a much warmer day but there was another wind advisory. It was a stupid busy day that flew by. My team and I worked on our annual inventory that morning. By the afternoon, I was rushing off to meetings, but I never made it. Instead, I found myself helping out on the floor because the kids were really rambunctious. In fact, most of the senior management ended up on the floor, helping keep the peace. After work, I walked about a mile and a half on a beautiful day but wound up cutting it short so I pick up Ann and drive up to Franklin. Abby needed some mommy and daddy time. We picked her up from campus and drove around town until she decided on a place to eat. We decided on Mexican and went to a new place called Mi Abuelito. It was really good ? I?d go as far as to say that it was better than El Reparo! I loved their fish tacos. It was so much that we all asked for to-go boxes. We enjoyed dinner and drinks but especially catching up with Abs for a while. She barely took a breath while we were out. ???? Before we knew it, it was time to say our goodbyes and head home. Meanwhile, Luke had a good day of e-learning at the house. He spent the afternoon cleaning his room and setting up my old stereo in his bedroom. He didn?t quote get it set up right, so I?ll have to help him do it the right way. He went out with his buddies for a while. We watched the season debuts of some of our faves like SWAT, FBI and FBI: Most Wanted. But before the last one ended, I was asleep on the couch and just went on to bed.

The dogs finally let us sleep in a little on Friday morning. I got up when Ann?s alarm went off. We got Dunkin drive-thru and then I dropped off Ann at her downtown office. The dogs and I enjoyed a little porch time on a pretty morning. Luke got up and attended his e-learning classes from his bedroom. I checked in my newest Hot Wheels finds while watching DVR?d shows. After I picked up Ann from work, we watched a few episodes of the weekly SVU marathon. That afternoon, Ann napped, Luke did his schoolwork and I went to the park to play some frisbee golf. I got in three rounds before my arm started to feel like a noodle. It was still windy, which kept things challenging. My best round was the first, throwing a par. The final 18 holes got tougher and tougher as the sun went behind the clouds and the wind picked-up. I still shot a one-over 28 on both. It should?ve been better, but I my mid-range shots were just not good that afternoon. When I came home, Luke and I worked on hooking up the stereo properly. I must say that it still sounds really good but asked him to please not blow all the speakers! He got cleaned-up after working out for his advanced PE class and went out to Oakley?s house. Ann & I took it easy with the dogs flipping between SVU and DVR?d shows ? including Ancient Aliens. ???? While Ann read, I worked on the html code for this week?s blog entry. Oak came over and the boys played PS4 until late and Oak spent the night with us. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos5/smp20.11.139.jpg" height="300" width="400" Lola let us know she was ready to go out. The dogs and I kept our porch time short that morning because it was cold and rainy. We drove out into the country to St. Paul to see the fine folks at Wildflour Bakery and pickup another batch of goodies. We stopped by Mom & Sandy?s house, where they are quarantining because Sandy is still ailing. We dropped off pastries for the ladies and picked up supplies for Thanksgiving that Mom left us to get safely from her garage, since Ann will be doing the cooking for the family this year. Thankfully, Rob, Sharon and Abby are coming because they will be a big help this year! We ran a few errands around town then came home to eat, watch the Purdue football game we taped last night and keep warm on a day that never got out of the 40s. The Boilers got a raw deal. There were so many questionable calls ? especially the phantom offensive pass interference call at the end of the game that should?ve given them the win. I?m sorry, but a referee should not decide the outcome of a ballgame. Luke & Oakley eventually got up that afternoon. While Oak went home, Luke played on his PS4 which was now set up out in the family room where the boys stayed up last night ? way too long. Luke went into work that evening at Hibbett?s and Ann & I went to Walmart to get a jump on getting supplies for next week. It was a lot busier than I had anticipated. I thought we had a pandemic going on. There were people everywhere ? and not all of them had masks. We wound up with two shopping carts full of stuff. Luke ended up getting off early since they weren?t busy that evening and came home to resume his position in the family room in front of his PS4. Ann made Fireworks popcorn for dinner and we watched the Elton John musical called Rocketman on the big screen. The TV continued to play more movies but the following flick wasn?t very good and the one after that we fell asleep after like the opening scene, I think?

The dogs woke us up at a decent time on Sunday morning and had kept their messes contained to the piddle pads, thankfully. I worked on the blog and tried to keep the dogs quiet so Ann could go back to sleep but that was obviously asking too much. We didn?t get to have any porch time because it was still cold, rainy, and just blah outside. We slowly got around to our weekly household chores and watched last night?s SNL (it was an oldie from 2013) and a new show called History?s Greatest Mysteries before football came on the big screen and I settled in to watch RedZone and, ?seven hours of uninterrupted football!??? ???? Luke went in to work at Hibbett?s at noon as it continued to rain. He complained last night that his car was smoking so when I checked fluids this morning, I ran his car for a while but couldn?t duplicate the behavior. The poor kid got caught in traffic on the bypass by a train that had stopped at Honda and extended all through town. Thankfully, he left early and I think me was only a couple minutes late. As it turned out, they were dead again and he was sent home after just an hour or two. He sat and watched some football and talked with us for a little while then retreated to his room to play on his PS4. He eventually came out to the family room to set up because the game he was playing wouldn?t play right in his room. So, we wound up buying a Wi-Fi extender and will go pick it up tomorrow at Best Buy. I noticed that, due to COVID, you could not go into the store to pickup your stuff but had to do curbside pickup. Ann made a delicious dinner of salmon patties (one of my faves!). We watched the Cowboys finally win a game and then the Colts won in OT. The Cowboys can move into 1st place in the division with a win on Thanksgiving. Indy is already in 1st place but can really solidify their position with a win over Tennessee this coming week. I can?t remember the last time my two favorite teams won in the same week, so it was a good day of football. LOL! We took it easy that evening as Ann read while I finished up the blog. It was a relaxing way to wind down the evening and put a cap on the week before we start it all over again in the morning.

Next up is our Waybac segment, which features the next batch of pictures from Dee?s digital camera in 2004. We lead off in April- Easter Bunny fun on the square; May- Dixon Dance Revue; June- Luke?s birthday; July- a ton from Independence Day, the Fair Parade and a night at the fair, Grace?s bday, Indy Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we?ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one and stay safe out there. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu

Long shadows, empty fields and leafless trees filled our landscapes as I exercised and we commuted to & from work on days that continue to shrink with each passing week.

It wasn?t the dogs that had me up early on Tuesday morning, but work.

We enjoyed sleeping in a little on Saturday morning before Lola let us know she was ready to go out.
