Man, this year is flying by us. It?s hard to believe that Turkey Day is next week already. It?s been a rollercoaster year. Although we have been mostly able to return to a normal lifestyle ? at home, school and work, we?re honestly still trying to figure it out. Matt had a full week of work in Carmel, including studying for that darned test again. He plans to take it and pass it next week. We?re really proud of how hard he has worked on this. He continued to coach wrestling in Zionsville this week as well. We are looking forward to him coming home next week. Abby had a big week! She not only had her incredibly busy school schedule at Franklin. She also worked at her internship each day in Greenwood. Then she enjoyed a weekend getaway with Will to Florida! We are looking forward to her coming home next week for Thanksgiving Break. Luke missed the first wrestling meet this week, so I?m finally starting to accept the fact that he is really not going to compete in his senior season. ? He had a full week of classes and is ready to be done with school already. I don?t think the other kids had such a bad case of senioritis?especially this early in the year. He?s just done. He continued to lift daily – and in some cases, he lifted a couple times a day. Ann had a fast week of work then spent some time with her work friends at our season?s first Xmas party. I had a very busy week myself at work, which helped it absolutely fly. I fell short of my walking goal as both our schedule and the weather impacted my workout times. I only managed to achieve about eleven miles but at least it included 27 holes of frisbee golf. I enjoyed spending a little quality time with friends and even got in a little Hot Wheel time this week. As the weather continues to trend more towards the colder weather, our landscape has completely changed. All the leaves are off the trees so I went ahead and mowed one last time this year. I still have a few things to do around the house to winterize yet before it gets too cold. Despite the economy and the inflation and all the other BS going on in the world, I?m just glad we can have a normal holiday season and am so looking forward to next week with all the fam… Hello and welcome to the latest installment of the Scheu Family Blog. <\/p>\n

Monday was cold and wet. I wound up having to scrape Black Betty?s windshield before heading into work. It was a fast workday for both Ann & I as we both are working with our teams to figure out how to navigate this new vaccine mandate and still keep our employees and stay in business. I was so busy that by the time I got done with my work for the day, I had missed the opportunity to walk. It was for the best anyhow, as it was snowing and much too cold. After I picked up Ann and got home, it was already dark and it was sleeting ? brrr! Luke had a good day at school and found out that he passed both of his ISTEP tests and can now graduate! Yay!! He worked out with Coach Jackson in the morning during Advanced PE and then with Mr. DeVolld in the weight room after school. Ann made a quick dinner, culling different leftovers to whip up a yummy creamy, garlic pasta dish. She is amazing? Mom O enjoyed the final day of being 82, talking to Matt as usual then Ms. Ann. She is still obviously grieving the loss of their dog ? and who can blame her and Gigi; they had him for fifteen years or so? We were greeted by a lovely sunrise on Tuesday morning as we commuted over to Columbus. It wasn?t quite as cold as yesterday. Although it started out in the 30s, it warmed nicely into the 60s with lots of sunshine! I had a stupid busy day at work. Ann had a good day but continued to try and deal with the vaccination mandate. We, too, are struggling to comply with the CMS \/ OSHA regulations and still maintain a viable workforce. Although I clearly understand why my facility would want to get vaccinated, I still see the other side and don?t believe the government should force someone to vaccinate if they choose not to. I work in healthcare, which is based in science and as a man of science, believe in vaccines. But that?s just my humble opinion and don?t expect everyone to think like me ? in fact Mom always said it would be pretty boring place if everyone believed all the same thing. Still, we are caught in the middle and just pray we will survive this too. Honestly, we?ve just been barely hanging on for the last two years through this COVID mess of a world. I wish people would just return to work so we could get back to normal?whatever that is? I got off work a little early and walked a little under three miles before picking up Ms. Ann and heading home. We did that so I could have a chance to play a round of frisbee golf. The view was gorgeous; the sunset matched the palette of that morning?s sunrise. I threw from the front tees but still had an outstanding round of 20! Luke had a fast day at school then worked out afterward. He was already home when I got back and was taking a long, steamy shower. He didn?t stick around long and shortly after the shower he was off to watch the girls? basketball game at the high school. It was Mom O?s 83rd birthday and I must say she gets around pretty damn good for her age! ???? Abby received a very nice (and very good) letter of recommendation for the Pi Phi 125th Anniversary award from her adviser, Jeremy. After working from home, Matt went to Zionsville for wrestling practice that evening. We took it easy that night, watching a couple shows on TV while enjoying a find-your-own dinner night. We binge-watched the final several episodes of The Lost Symbol season one. Afterward, we started to watch a documentary on the Toolbox Killers (serial killers active when we lived in the San Gabriel Valley ? sort of scary!). However, Ann fell asleep after about a half hour so I put on the #6 Purdue game I taped earlier vs. Wright State. It was a thrill to watch our old neighbor (Andrew Welage) play at Mackey Arena on TV! <\/p>\n

Delilah had us up early on Humpday. It was eerily warm that morning and really humid. It was another crazily busy day for me. Ann also had her hands full that day with her office as well. We had a fast morning then visited Jami for our monthly haircuts. We made a late minute decision to grab White Castle on our way back to the office. A decision that made both our guts question that decision a couple hours later ? LOL! ???? I finished up my EOC report and am ready for our meetings tomorrow. I was able to wrap up a little early and get and walk after work. It was still warm ? in the low 60s ? but perfect for me?sweatshirt & shorts, baby! I logged a little over three miles then headed back to town. It was dark, overcast and drizzly all day and it got dark pretty early that evening. Still, I dropped off Annie and hurried out to the park to get in a quick round of frisbee golf. It was a lot different than last night ? there was a strong breeze and a light rain. That made it a lot more challenging. Because I didn?t have much daylight left, I threw from the front tees again. My tee shots weren?t nearly as good, which accounted for me shooting four strokes higher that yesterday. I fueled up Black Betty and Barney afterward and about choked when it cost me almost $80 ? good Gawd man!! Luke worked out with Coach at Advanced PE that morning at school then worked out after school again that afternoon. By the time I got home, he had showered and was in bed, hanging out in that stinky room of his. He stayed in his room all night, playing loudly on his PS4 until late. Abby had a full day of classes then worked at her internship that afternoon for a few hours. She is excited about going on a surprise trip this weekend with Will. She still doesn?t know where she?s going yet! ???? Matt worked from home then wen to the high school for a combined wrestling practice with both Zionsville middle schools. Ann & I found our own dinners and watched a couple DVR?d shows before turning on Paramount + to catch up on the last couple episodes of SEAL Team. It moved over there from CBS a couple weeks ago. It rained most of the night ? we had a real gully washer at one point! I edited pictures and videos that evening and made myself go to bed about midnight. I slept really good overnight and felt ready to go on Thursday morning. It was chilly again as we headed into work in the Barneymobile. We gave Black Betty a four-day weekend rest. It was another ridiculously busy day ? but man, did it go fast! My schedule was booked solid from 8 to 4 for the first time in a while. On top of my weekly rounds and chores, I was able to complete several IT jobs that I had pushed back for a couple weeks. The morning flew by and after eating lunch during a webinar, I went to our monthly Marathon Meetings that afternoon and facilitated it for the first time. It was Jim?s first time but we were missing half our management team. By the time we finished and I wrapped up things to prep for working from home tomorrow, it was time to go. It was sunny and looked warm?but then that cold wind slapped me in the face. Instead of walking for a half hour in that stuff or going to mall to walk for like 15 minutes, I called Ann and we just went ahead and left town. We went to Needler?s to get supplies for Ann to make us her yummy, spicy Italian sandwich for me to take to Poker Night that evening. We gathered the band of merry men at the Bewley Bar B&B for a night of football, food, cards and of course lots of spirits and comradery. Meanwhile, Luke enjoyed sleeping in that morning as the school was doing ISTEP testing?and he passed his already! ???? Sorry; I just had to say that again! He worked out at the school weight room afterward and then that night he worked out again at the Y. After his day at work, Matt had wrestling practice at Z-West that evening. We had a full house that night, as all eight of us were able to make it to card night. We had a ton of food and ate like kings! I just missed the NFL card ? if I had hit the Thursday night game, I would?ve won (damn you, Ravens!!). I had another successful night of Poker, more than doubling my buy-in that evening. I stayed late after everyone else took off and sat with Bryan and Rick for one last cocktail. We talked about going to FLA with them this holiday season. It sounds like something I could get behind and told Bryan as such?but Ann has surgery scheduled this year, so it?s not a good fit for us. Maybe next year? <\/p>\n

I was hoping to get up early on Friday morning ? really early ? like 4 am early. There was a Beaver Moon lunar eclipse occurring that day. During the eclipse, it morphed into a Blood Moon. It was the first time in almost 600 years for such an event! The sky was perfect for us with minimal cloud cover ? ideal for viewing. However, I had a little too much Sailor to get up at that time of day. Instead, Ann found a few pictures that a lady from here in town captured that were really cool. ?I?m sorry I missed it? As it was, I got up and had to defrost the minivan before we headed off to Dunkin for our weekly treat. After dropping off Annie, I stopped by CVS for prescriptions and a big bottle of Patron ? not for us, but for Ann?s boss at the first Christmas party of the season that evening. I came back and spent the day with the pups, working from home. I got more done that I had even planned to accomplish, which my boss will like, I?m sure. I brought Ann home after she finished with the State Fire Marshal and contractors running new CAT-6 wiring for the office. When I got up there, Gigi was in the office. She was walking around downtown, trying to drum-up business in-person. As Ann napped that afternoon, I was able to complete my annual paperwork as well as push forward a couple projects. I worked all the way up to the time when Ann was ready to meet up with her teammates in Columbus. I dropped her off at Riviera Maya and went Hot Wheel hunting. I was surprised to find Walmart and Target cleaned out?thankfully, at Kroger I hit the jackpot! There was a display larger than I had ever seen ? there were tens of thousands of cars ? wow!! I got back to the mall and waited for Annie. She was running late, so I waited in the car for her. Well, after about an hour, I decided to go walk in the mall. I tried to use the restroom, but it was locked. I didn?t think too much about it, since many public restrooms are closed due to the Tok-tok idiots damaging fixtures. So, I threw in my headphones and started walking. I hadn?t gone far when I thought I heard noises coming from behind me. My headphones were on noise-cancelling mode, so I couldn?t make out what the sound was, so I glanced back and saw an old, grumpy security guard (that I?d never seen before) mouthing something angrily at me. I pulled out my headphones and he was shouting something about where the hell I was going and doing and that the mall was closed. I apologized and explained that my headphones had impeded my ability to hear him, but that didn?t seem to matter to him. He escorted me out (he took his job very seriously!) and locked the door behind me. I felt bad for a group of kids coming in because they got their heads bit off for just trying to enter the Mexican restaurant. So, after that experience, I decided I?d just walk around the outside of the mall. I hadn?t got more than two minutes around the building ? about to the old JC Penny store ? and she texted me saying she was headed outside and ready to go LOL. We laughed, telling stories of our adventures that evening. When we got back home, Luke was there to greet us. After school, he went to the Y to lift weights. He took his car to Tree City Sound ? the guys that installed all his audio equipment in the car. His sub-woofer was malfunctioning and come to find out, he had blown-up his amp. So, they?re going to install a new one for him in the near future. He cleaned his room and wound up falling asleep. He didn?t want to go out and wind up staying out too late because he had to work early the next morning. I started to check in some Hot Wheels and fell asleep promptly on the couch. Ann stayed up after I went on to bed and ended up sleeping in her chair until the wee hours of Saturday morning ? a pattern that has repeated itself many times this week? It was a chilly Saturday morning with temps all the way down into the 20s. Delilah was rip, roaring and ready to go at about 7. I was ready to get up, so it worked out well. I worked a little bit on the blog and watched a few DVR?d shows with the pooches. Once Annie got up, she woke-up Luke for work at Hibbett?s and I checked-in some Hot Wheels and tried to keep warm that morning. Luke got an interesting piece of mail ? he might have jury duty! He had the questionnaire to fill out and send back to the courthouse. Our little baby is growing up?man, we?re old? Abby had gone on a weekend excursion last night. They were scheduled to fly out about 7 but wound up being delayed several hours due to an issue with the plane and didn?t get down to Orlando until 2 in the morning! OMG? By the time they Uber?d over to Merritt Island (near Coco Beach on the Atlantic coast), it was after 3. What a night for them! Will had surprised her, earlier in the week, saying she should clear her schedule for this weekend, pack a bathing suit and a nice dress and be open-minded about having a good time. She had no idea where she was heading until they got to the airport last night ? LOL!. We knew; but we didn?t even tell Mom and Sandy, much less her brothers ? for fear they?d blab! ???? She was so excited to learn she wasn?t going to Erie, PA. I had teased her about how nice it was this time of year there ? LOL. Nothing against Pennsylvania, but it?s just not a warm destination this time of year? As you might expect, we didn?t hear from Abs and Will until later in the morning. I don?t expect they got much sleep. The bad thing was that the forecast had changed for the weekend and now it was supposed to be mostly rainy. Thankfully, it stayed nice for them. They Uber?d to a seafood restaurant called Autumn?s Crab Cajun Seafood & Bar. It was Abby?s first experience with eating snow crab and crawfish and mussels out of the shell?and she loved it (once she got past the fact that she was eating an animal out of its shell). Afterward, they walked down to a liquor store that had a bar in the back so you can try it then buy it to take home! LOL! Meanwhile, Ann & I watched a few DVR?d shows and waited for it to warm up outside. She made us spicy Fireworks popcorn for lunch and then I went out and mowed the lawn for what is possibly the final time this year. I guess we?ll see? All the leaves are down from all three of our trees so it was good to mulch up all that detritus in the lawn. Afterwards, Ann & I went to Walmart to get a couple things. She cleaned-up the house that day, including windows, bathrooms and walls. I helped her clean the shower and then she replaced the blind in the back bathroom on her own. I was glad to let her do that because I hate hanging curtains. While she did that; I played a round of frisbee golf at the park, late in the day ? while it was still light! It was a nice afternoon, though I did wear a sweatshirt all day. Luke got up fairly early that morning and went into work at Hibbett?s for most of the day. He came back to eat and then took a nap before going back to the school to watch the girls? basketball game. He wound up spending the night at Ethan?s house. Ann made us grilled cheese for dinner as we took it easy, watching some shows. I checked in another batch of Hot Wheels and worked on the blog, writing out the html code for this week?s entry. Abs called that night. She sounded like she was having a good time. I can?t wait to hear all the stories from their weekend getaway? Delilah had me up early on Sunday night, just a few hours after Ann finally came to bed after sleeping in her chair until after 3 am again. I did my weekly household chores and caught up on some DVR?d Purdue sports. The basketball team had a big win vs. North Carolina and will move on to the championship round of the Hall of Fame Tipoff tourney vs. Villanova. Meanwhile the football team played a cool game at Wrigley Field vs. Northwestern and came out with a big game from the receivers and the defense. Luke went came home to drop off some stuff and then went out to Big Boy with his buddies for their weekly breakfast buffet for lunch. Did someone stay up too late?? He watched some RedZone with me after bringing me lunch (Super Bad Boy ? add bacon!) from Frisch?s. In fantasy football, I faced-off with Deanna while Ann played Abby and the boys battled each other. After Luke went out to the YMCA to lift then ran around with his friends. Abby enjoyed another fun day in Florida. They went out on the water and saw dolphins & manatees. Later, they went to lunch, went bar hopping and played some putt-putt. We watched the Colts win big and the Titans lose, so they gained a game in the standings. The Cowboys game got pretty ugly in the first half and never even got close. I think Dak scored me 2 points and CD got me like 4. Thanks guys? Ann made cheesy Fireworks popcorn for dinner. After football, I watched the #6 Boilers take on the #5 Wildcats in their tourney finals at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The Boilers played like a Final Four team?and will only get better as the year progresses. We wound down the night watching the new episode of Yellowstone and then as Ann read, I watched the new Dr. Who Flux episode while I finished up the blog. Abby & Will caught a red-eye flight home, late that night. I watched the 2nd half of the SNF game to wind down the week and a relaxing way to put the kibosh on another week, here at the Scheu abode. <\/p>\n

We lead off with this week?s batch in March for Abby & Grace on a weekend Chicago trip; then in May we have a couple pix of Megan on Memorial Day at our house; July has pix of the kids at the County Fair and Grace?s birthday; August has the boys at the WTRE Back-to-School bash; in September, we see Gigi and Grace on Abby?s birthday as well as the ladies at Keith?s birthday; October has Mom playing cornhole; in November we have Thanxmas Day and in December we have pix from Christmas Eve with the Owens family, Spa Day for Bu & Gracie and Santa visits Abby?s classroom.<\/p>\n
