I didn?t hear much from Matt his week. I know he was talking about picking up a second job with Z-West as an Events Coordinator, so I assume he was pretty busy between the two jobs. I can remember Ann & I doing that for a few years when we were just starting out?gotta do whatcha gotta do, right? Abby had a busy week. She was recognized as a finalist in the Top Ten Senior as part of the annual Student Involvement awards. The presentation will be next week, so we are thinking about going up for it. She had a full week of classes, as she nears the end of her college career. She enjoyed going out of town this weekend with Will for his Spring Formal. Luke had a big week of track as he had meets with Connersville and New Castle at home as well as travelling to South Dearborn and Brown County. His shotput competition with his teammate Tyler was fierce as they finished one-two at every meet, I believe. After Ann got shots in her hand for trigger finger, she was hoping for immediate relief. She was quite disappointed this week as it pretty much feels the same. She had a very busy week at work and continued working on After-Prom stuff in her down time. After more than a decade, this will be her final year of chairing the AP committee. We were all really sore after getting sunburned at a long track competition on Saturday, where it was sunny and eighty. It was a total rookie move and we were embarrassed for our lapse in judgement. My work week was again stupid busy, but my team and I accomplished a ton of stuff. Due to all the activity at work and travelling for track, my exercise amount was again limited this week. I managed to log only about six miles of exercise but did enjoy my first two rounds of frisbee golf. I am trying to use my golf discs more and more. I finally found one that I feel comfortable throwing, called the Yellow Leopard. I still had to use a Big Blue disc (a 200 g Heavyweight disc) to throw certain tee shots because of the pond. I am still wanting to play the new course across the street from my work, on the airport property. Maybe this coming week, I can find time to do that! Hello again and welcome to the latest installment of the Scheu Family Blog.

We woke up to snow on Monday morning. Yes ? snow! ?And I blame Ann for it. Yesterday, she had me remove all the winter stuff from the front porch ? not just the shovel and salt, but the decorations as well. In its place, she had me put a few spring things out. And this is what we get! Actually, when I spoke to Dad B yesterday, I asked if he and Lynn were in the area because it is uncanny how often it snows whenever they come to visit ? LOL! It continued snowing the entire commute over to Columbus. It remained cold and overcast all day. It was a busy morning for me as I caught up paperwork, wrote out purchase orders and tried to order a few things. The internet for our entire corporation is atrocious right now and that day was one of the worst cases. It interrupted job flow across the board. I had to hop off the network and pick up private Wi-Fi to get my job done a couple times. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to that and so not everyone was able to do their work. I had a computer crash as well and worked through lunch to get another PC issued to Steph, our new Milieu Mgr. Shortly after lunch, I picked up Ann and went to see Jami and get our monthly haircuts. I was so tired that I fell asleep twice while she was doing Ann?s hair that afternoon! Afterward we went to DQ for Blizzards to kill a few minutes then I took her to her doctor appointment to get that ?trigger finger??? issue fixed. The doc didn?t come out and say she needed surgery, but that may be the road she?s headed down. For that day, he tried a shot to see if she could get some relief. She couldn?t feel her finger the rest of the night, so we?ll have to wait a day or two to see how well it works for her. I was hoping to get out and play a game of frisbee golf, but when we got home that evening, it was cold, overcast and raining. So, we came in and flopped on the couch and watched some DVR?d shows while I procured pictures and videos for this week?s blog entry. Meanwhile, Abby texted me earlier in the day. She was in class, sucking on a cough drop when the piece of her tooth that was repaired a couple years ago popped out unexpectedly. She sent me a lovely picture of her chipped tooth smile. I didn?t see it at first until she sent a closer picture. So now she has an appointment to see the dentist to get it repaired again. Luke had a challenging day as well. He was going along fine, though felt a little bloated. Then, during track practice, he said he spent more time in the bathroom than he did practicing. When we got home, he was soaking in the shower where I think he ran the water heater out of hot water. It wasn?t much longer after that when we heard him in the back bathroom, retching into the commode. He said he felt much better afterward and went on to bed and slept through the night. I flipped between the live American Idol show (the live Top 14 reveal) and the USFL game. It continued to graupel and sleet that night, as the temps dipped down below freezing that evening. Here are pictures from Easter Sunday, last weekend?

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos6/lp22.04.04.jpg" height="400" width="300" It never got very warm again that day?but I hear warmer days are coming this week. But that day, all we could do was dream of warmer days? Luke was slow to get up and eventually ate some breakfast. When he discovered he was able to keep it down, he went into school and eventually on to his next track meet. That evening, the Pirates hosted a three-way meet with Connersville and New Castle. Meanwhile, Abby managed to fit in a dentist appointment into her busy school schedule that day and got her chipped tooth fixed. Ann had a good day, getting the go ahead to add another position to her staff. I had my corporate Plant Ops guru down that day for a triennial visit. He and I spent the day going through my books and documentation. I received a passing grade, which I was thrilled to receive from him. One of the smartest people in this line of work that I have met is my buddy Dennis and this guy (Dave) is his idol. So, when he complimented our program, it really meant a lot. We didn?t finish early enough for me to go walking that afternoon. I got out just in time to pick up Ann and head back to town. We stopped at home so Ann could change and get some other stuff to help keep her warm that evening. As it turned out, it wasn?t enough. But the cold that permeated our bodies wasn?t the worst thing that happened out there at school. On our way to the discus field, Ann fell in the muddy grass and couldn?t get up. It was scary at the time, but now reflecting on it; it?s a little funny. I felt bad because I had walked on to go talk with Luke and left alone in unstable ground. Her shoes looked great but weren?t really sensible for that terrain. We will have more meets out there yet this year so we have already formulated a plan for the rest of the season. I got her back up on her feet and although she was muddy and a little sore, she was no worse for the wear. We set up our chairs on far side of the field (on the walking track), facing into a biting wind out of the northwest. It affected all the throwers. We weren?t even sure Luke was going to complete, seeing as he?s been sick for the last 12 hours or so. But he toughed it out that night. He didn?t do well at all in discus, placing 5th out of about a dozen boys. He scratched wide-right on three of four throws, which obviously didn?t fare well. Next, we moved to shotput. He did much better over there and we thought he had won the competition, but his teammate Tyler wound up throwing it just a few inches further on the final throw of the night. He was mad as hell but a little competition is a good thing! We came home to get warmed up and grab a bite to eat. We watched a couple of the FBI shows, but we fell asleep eventually while she was reading and I was editing pictures and videos. Here are pictures of Luke at his track meet in Jennings County last weekend.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos6/ltjc22.01.jpg" height="300" I actually ran my bed warmer overnight and I sure didn?t want to get out of bed that morning. I pushed snooze a few times. In fact, I didn?t even realize I had pushed snooze a few times before I even realized it. I still got up on time, but I don?t remember the first three snoozes! While Ann and her crew saw over 100 patients that day (wow!), I took my Regional Facility Mgr. around on a building tour for part two of his triennial visit. We spent the entire day walking around the grounds and facility, inspecting everything from top to bottom and inside and out. I was physically and mentally exhausted by the time we met with Jim to debrief and do an exit interview. Although he didn?t find anything glaring, I do have a laundry list of tasks to accomplish before the Joint Commission comes to survey us in the fall. It?s funny how intense the inspections have been this year ? maybe Covid wasn?t such a bad thing after all?! Overall, I felt pretty good about his findings but part of me still wanted him to find nothing? By the time we finished with Jim, it was past time to pickup Annie. We enjoyed catching up with each other?s days and ran a couple errands when we got back to town. I briefly thought about playing a round of frisbee golf when we got home, but it was cold, overcast and windy. Add that to my exhaustion and I decided to just go on inside and relax. Julie had been there to clean that day and the house looked great. Luke was already home, having returned from school and track practice. In lieu of working out at the Y that evening, he opted to rest his body and get ready for his next track meet tomorrow. We watched several DVR?d shows that evening. I fell asleep early on and then rallied to stay up several more hours. Ann conked out later in the evening and then slept in her chair with her electric blanket until the wee hours of the morning. I finished up editing pictures and worked on my music collection for a while. Here are pictures of Luke at his track meet in Madison last week.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos6/ltm22.01.jpg" height="300" barking dogs out before I even showered?yep, it was raining again? It was cool and overcast again all day ? though the sun did pop in and out later that afternoon after I picked up Ann. We both had quick day at work. I did paperwork and purchasing in the morning before I debriefed the management team, regarding my RFM?s findings from his visit the last couple days. Afterward, I did my weekly rounds and Vic & I went to lunch at Ye Olde Fish House before stopping at Lowe?s to make extra keys for the locks I bought for their gates. When I got back to work, we had our monthly marathon meetings ? PI, Pt Safety & my EOC Safety Committee. We got done earlier than I anticipated, which allowed to finally get out and exercise a bit. I managed to get in about a mile and a half before it was time to pick up Ann and head to Luke?s next track meet. Luke and the varsity Pirates attended the South Dearborn Invite. There were 13 teams in attendance with two athletes each?which meant that it took a very long time for us to get through both discus and then shotput. Luke did not participate in discus, so we had to wait for them to finish that before we could even see Luke. By the time he got to throw (he was in the second flight of boys), it was getting dark and his final throw was difficult to see with the naked eye. After the first round, he was in 1st place; in the second, he slipped to 3rd; in the third round, he was in 2nd place; but after the fourth and final round, he finished in 4th place. His teammate Tyler wound up winning both the discus and shotput blue ribbon! After four hours, we headed back home, stopping in Batesville briefly to hit a couple drive-throughs. We talked with Abby a couple times that day. She was nominated for a Student Involvement award and made it through to the final round for Top Ten Senior. She, of course, has no idea if she will win or not, but she?s invited us up to see it live in the Branigan Room next week. She also invited us up this weekend for Sig-Stock. We both fell asleep during the only show we managed to watch. Luke came home, ate, showered and went on to bed. He didn?t say ten words to us. I think he was pretty disappointed that he didn?t land his final throw. It would?ve been close to 48? but he over rotated, putting his hand outside the ring, which a foul and scored as a scratch. Still, I thought it was pretty cool and well worth the wait to watch him compete. He and Tyler have this little friendly competition thing going?but secretly I think they really want to beat each other badly? ???? Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos6/sis22.04.172.jpg" height="300" width="400" We eventually got around to getting up and getting on with our day. We did the usual Friday thing ? run through the Dunkin drive-thru line before dropping Ann off at the downtown office and running a couple errands. I returned to the house to do a couple chores and then worked from home until noon. The dogs and I went to pickup Ann in Black Betty and headed out to Westport to see Macy and get the pooches groomed. We stopped at Pizzalicious on our way back to have a good lunch. When we got back home, Ann took a nap while I mowed the lawn. It was still overcast and yes ? of course it rained a little. Still, it was in the 70s and humid, so the sprinkles just helped cool me down a little. I was still a sweaty mess when I got done. Ann & Kristie facilitated the next After-Prom meeting at the high school and by the time I finished, they were already out there. I wrote out this week?s html code until Ann got home and she received the text from Macy that the dogs were ready for pick-up. They look (and smell!) great as always. Poor Macy worked on DJ for hours. In all, she had them for like six hours. I got changed and went out to the park for more exercise while playing frisbee golf. I played 18 holes and managed a little over two miles. I threw from the front tees on the first 9, scoring a respectable 22 (not bad for not having played in three weeks) and then threw an equally good 25 from the back tees. It was a perfect day for disc golf with just a hint of a breeze. Meanwhile, Luke went to school and then track practice. He ran around with his friends, cleaned his car and sold some stuff off to make room in his bedroom. When the furniture he sold wouldn?t fit in his car, he borrowed old Betty White to haul that stuff to its new home. That night, we had a find-your-own dinner and we watched the new Batman movie on HBO Max. It was really long but really cool at the same time. By the time it ended, Ann was asleep and I was nodding in and out so we went on to bed ? but not before I took some Advil because my feet, legs, back and elbow were all pissed off. I?m a little out of shape, I guess? We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" Luke was the first one out the door, on his way to school to catch the bus over to Brown County High School. We weren?t far behind. We went to Mom & Sandy?s house to swap vehicles and headed on to Nashville. We got there in plenty of time on a lovely morning. The sun was high, as were the temperatures ? topping out in the mid-eighties! Thankfully there was a strong breeze that kept us from totally overheating. However, we pulled a major rookie mistake and brought no sun protection?and we fried out there. ? It was Record Store Day ? one of my favorite days of the year. This year, the big record I was after was Kirk Hammett?s solo debut called Portals. Although I couldn?t make it to a store, Abby agreed to go to the one in downtown Franklin and pick it up. However, they opened earlier than normal that day and by the time she got there, they were sold out. Not to be outdone, I looked online in the Met-Store and sure enough, they still had a few left and I was able to secure a cool blue vinyl version! Abs had a sorority thing that morning and then went with Will to Louisville for the night for the ??? formal, where they went to a fancy restaurant and then went barhopping where, among other things, she rode a mechanical bull! ???? Meanwhile, Luke and the boys competed in the Talon Relays. So, there were six teams and they could enter up to 4 competitors in the events. They had to be in teams of two. So, in the discus, Luke was paired with Elliot. They placed third, I think (maybe 2nd??). Tyler and Eli finished first when the #1 seed (and the indoor track record-holder!) scratched four straight times! Next, we moved to the shotput pit, where the Dream Team of Luke & Tyler were matched up as a team. Luke had the farthest throw because the #1 seed (same kid as discus) scratched all four of his attempts?poor kid… Tyler had the 2nd longest throw, so their team easily won and Eli & Reed took 2nd place! We waited around for a little bit to watch the ?fat man relay.??? It was the throwing kids (the bigger kids on each team) out running a 4×100 relay. Instead of a baton, they pass a discus! ???? Luke ran the first leg to hopefully get the team a lead. However, not only did he false start, but then rather than false starting him and having him reset, the starter went ahead and started the race anyhow. Luke, completely discombobulated, then dropped the discus (he would later say, ?My hands were so sweaty!???) before he even took the first step ? disqualifying his team. Still, ever the competitor, he gathered himself and took off anyhow. He was really moving but because he had a two or three-second deficit, it was never close? Still, it was meant to be fun; and fun it was. We prodded him a few times and made fun of the situation a couple times ? LOL. Brayden?s dad got some great pictures. Luke left with us and our first stop was across the street at the Chocolate Moose. OMG: it was so good! Ann & I got waffle cones while Luke opted for a cold, fancy coffee. Once we got back to Columbus, we stopped on the east side at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants called Sabor de la Vida. Their sauces are out of this world. And their Mexican style tacos are even better than El Reparo. ???? When we got back to town, we went to the school and I hopped out to drive Luke?s car home. Meanwhile, Luke & Ann went out to a new furniture store that?s out by Walmart called Open Box Outlet. It?s a scratch-and-dent style store. They wound up picking up a pair of nightstands for a great price (about 1/3 of the original price). I came home to let the dogs out, change close, load up the truck and head over to Mom & Sandy?s house to mow. It was also my first time trimming over there, though admittedly I did not weed-eat her flower beds. I wasn?t sure what was plant/flower and what was weed/trash. I put new padlocks on their fence gates while I was there as well. Luke dropped Ann off, got changed and gassed-up the Escape. He came in to see Gma & Gigi for a minute then took the truck and the yard tools over to Coach Harris? yard, where he mowed for him. I moved all our stuff out of the Escape and into the Barneymobile and headed back to the house. I made a pitstop at Carriage on the Square, where I got 3 more pints of their homemade ice cream. This time, we got a Brown Sugar Pop-Tart, an M&Ms and a Camo (lots of goodies in that one!) pint ? yum! I immediately showered and man it was a cold one! I was so sunburned from the day that it actually hurt. I took some ibuprofen for it, but I might have to get some aloe as well. I sat in front of the fan the rest of the night, sore and worn-out from our adventure. Later, Ann helped Luke re-charge his A/C in the Hot Rod Lincoln. Ann was pretty sunburned as well, though not quite as bad as my face or Luke?s shoulders. He has some mean tan lines and was in some pain that evening too. We chilled-out and watched some DVR?d shows. Later, we got into our new ice cream stash to help us feel better. I love ice cream therapy! Here are pictures of recent additions to my Hot Wheels collection.

I was hoping to sleep in on Sunday morning, but Lola had other ideas ? yipping at the sunrise. I got up and let the dogs out and went ahead and started my day. I did my weekly household chores and made breakfast for myself. Luke & Ann slept in most of the morning. We were all sore from the exposure to that sun yesterday. None of us did much that day and didn?t even leave the house. We did take naps on and off through the day. We opened the house back up that morning, as temps were awesome. It was in the 60s with a cool breeze that really felt great. By the time the sun was directly overhead, it was back into the 80s again, so we closed up the house one more time. We debated whether or not we should get the air conditioners up and going already but ultimately decided to wait. The forecast for the next two weeks has in the 50s and 60s again ? ya know, like spring? For a moment, we were afraid we would go from winter to summer again like we did last year. It was just a week ago that there was a hard frost overnight. So, when it was so darned hot yesterday, we weren?t sure what to think. Instead, we broke out a couple fans and we did just fine. Luke went grocery shopping then came home with Brayden. They weren?t here long before they went out to Pizzalicious for dinner. We watched DVR?d shows until the USFL and NASCAR came on that afternoon. Later, Ann & I watched the latest episode of Outlander on Starz and Ann made cheesy, spicy Fireworks popcorn for dinner. Afterwards, we watched American Idol and voted for our favorites (well, the ones that are still left anyhow) and rested up in anticipation of yet another busy week next week as we wrap up April. It was a great way to wrap up the weekend and relaxing way to bring another fast week to an end. Here are pictures of Luke?s senior pictures (physical prints that turned out amazing!) that Farren sent us last week.

Next up, we look to our Waybac section for another batch of great pix from Aunt Sue?s archive that spans six decades this week. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we?ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, haver a good one and stay safe out there. We miss you, Mom.
Later, Scheu

We?ve had a busy week, here at the Scheu abode since we last touched base.

It was sunny on Tuesday, but it was deceivingly cold. It never got very warm again that day?but I hear warmer days are coming this week.

It was chilly on Wednesday morning. I actually ran my bed warmer overnight and I sure didn?t want to get out of bed that morning.

You?ll never guess what it was doing Thursday morning when I let the barking dogs out before I even showered?yep, it was raining again?

We pushed snooze several times on Friday morning. We eventually got around to getting up and getting on with our day.

We were up early again on Saturday morning. Luke was the first one out the door, on his way to school to catch the bus over to Brown County High School.

We lead off in the 1940s: Granny & Aunt Sue in April 1945; an unknown photo of what I believe is a Deerr family gathering in the late 40s and a cool picture of ?Aunt??? Mary K, Joann Haderle & Granny at Lake Manitou on July 11, 1949; in the 1950s, we see some great pictures from outside the Highland Ave home: Sally & John in April ?56, Granny doing laundry in September ?56, Sally in March ?59 and Grandpa Pug with Dad as the server alter boy on Sally?s First Communion Day in May ?59; in the 1960s: Sally & Mary in the early ?60s and one of my cousins in the mid ?60s; 1970s: Granny & Aunt Mary at Christmas in Dec ?71, Jackie in an early ?70s school picture and Kimmy in Lafayette in ?77; 1980s: Jason with Granny at what I believe to be Vicki?s wedding in ?89; and then the 1990s: Thanksgiving Day at Sally?s house in Nov ?92, Thanksgiving Day at the Parkside in Nov ?94, Aunt Sue with Zak in Las Vegas in Jan ?95, Mary & Bob with Zak in FLA in April ?95, Sue & 6-month-old Zak in April ?95 and finally four generations of Scheus: Granny, Sue, Jackie & Zak at John?s lake house on Shaeffer Lake in July ?95. What a great batch of pictures this week! Thanks, Aunt Sue!! ????

Next up is our video segment which includes one new home movie this week as well as several from around the internet.

And that does it for this week?s entry into the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we?ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, haver a good one and stay safe out there.
