This was a busy week, even by our standards. I suspect it will be this way for another few weeks before it all comes to screeching end after the graduations. To say our lives are about to change again, is an understatement. We haven?t had this big of a change since back in ?96. Phase three is a little scary because of the unknown?but also a little exciting at the same time. Matt continued working for Cathy, up north of Indy as well as working a 2nd job at Z-West. We thought we might see him and Taylor this weekend, but it didn?t work out. I did talk with him over text and we enjoyed re-discovering some old photographs. Abby kept busy with school this week. She did make it down for a brief moment to see Ann & I and to grab some last-minute things that she couldn?t live without for the next weekend, when she moves back home. She had Finals Week next week and then this time next week, we?ll have a third FC alumnus in the house! Luke wound down the regular season of his track & field schedule with the annual EIAC conference meet. He wound up placing higher than he was seeded, which is always a good thing! He now has his sites set on the Sectional meet at EC next week. He has decided to try out the Greensburg fire department. In order to do that, the GFD requires certain trainings, the first of which Luke met head on this past weekend and did great. Ann enjoyed spending time with her friends and scrapbooking to try and get everything ready before Luke?s grad party. I had another busy week at work, which made it fly past. I logged almost sixteen miles of exercise this week, beating my weekly goal. It was all frisbee golf and mowing this week. I played 108 holes of golf this week, which I think might be a new personal record. We had fun spending some time with Mom & Sandy this week. We spoke to Dad & Lynn and are excited to see them next week. Abby already has plans to take them down to Mike?s Bar & Grill to re-enact a story I told her about Mom & Dad going there with me about 30 years or so ago? The weather was really hot this week and I think we may have set a record one day ? God bless the person who invented A/C! Hello again and welcome to the latest edition of the Scheu Family Blog.

I was up early and into work on Monday morning. It was the start of Nursing / Hospital Week and that meant it was time for our annual Omelet Day at the facility. Justin & Vic joined me again this year to cook for the staff as a thank you for all they do throughout the year. I?ve been a part of this tradition for about 20 years now. It started back with Mark Porter & I doing it out in the dining room on portable hot stoves and continued with Dennis, Dan & I and then with JT & I, Philp & I and now the three amigos. It is only a small part of the festivities that are planned for this year?s celebration of the staff. I got in there around 7 and Lenny already had everything set up for us. She is the secret behind our success. She works so hard behind the scenes and is just a tireless worker. We couldn?t do this without her, for sure. We made somewhere in the neighborhood of 35 works of art ? down from 41 last year. That afternoon, Justin & Vic cooked out on the grill. I did that for about 10 years and was glad to give that chore up. At one point, I used to grill out every other Friday morning in the caf? courtyard. That lasted about 2 years ? the tenure of Richard, one of our better CEOs out there. I was so full that I didn?t even get a to-go plate. My omelet ? and I had to take a picture of it ? was the biggest one I?ve made yet! Weighing in a just a pinch under 3 pounds (yes, we actually weighed this monster!), it took me about an hour to eat all of it. ?And it was amazing! I worked on the plan of corrections from my UHS guy last month and finished up some purchasing stuff, which will allow me to begin working on reports tomorrow. After work, I went out to play 18 holes of frisbee golf on the airport property. I talked with another player and I?m excited to play in my first tourney, here in a couple weeks. The conditions were pretty tough that afternoon with a very strong wind ? something pretty common out there. I threw another 59 (5 over par) with a little over two miles of exercise. I wanted to stop by and play more when I got back to town, but I had other things to do at the house that night. Meanwhile, Ann enjoyed sleeping in on her day off. She pushed herself pretty hard this weekend and needed a day for her body to recoup. She wound up doing some work from home and got most of the graduation announcements sent out. Luke grudgingly went to school then track practice before coming home to sell some shoes and help me around the house. We installed the A/C?s to prepare for this week?s big rise in the temperatures. We didn?t want the dogs to be miserable?nor us when we were trying to sleep. Delilah got out the front door when Luke left it ajar (apparently, he did it early and allowed Lola to abscond as well). She took off like a bat out of hell and tore through the neighborhood. She wound up coming back after a couple minutes, but she was grounded to her pin for a while after that move. I ran a couple errands afterward and Luke mowed over at Harris? house. He shipped out his shoes and then took it easy the rest of the night. We ate leftovers from the weekend and watched a couple DVR?d shows. I didn?t make it through the last one but rallied and finished culling pictures and videos from last week?s adventures. Speaking of which, here are pictures from Senior Night last week at the annual Decatur County track meet.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" However, we had a fast morning and then left work shortly after noon. We drove up to the IUPUI campus for Ann?s annual checkup for her thyroid at IU Health. She got a clean bill of health and won?t have to come back for another year! The old Barneymobile ran pretty hard and we had to add a little coolant back into it when we got back to the parking garage after her appointment. It hadn?t run on three interstates in a few years. But it ran like a trooper on I65, I70 and I74 just fine. We drove down to Shelbyville and stopped for a late lunch at Cracker Barrel. I had their spicy catfish while Ann opted for the meatloaf ? yum! We then continued out adventure all the way down to Aurora for Luke?s final track meet of the regular season at South Dearborn. That night was the annual EIAC Conference meet. Luke did not qualify for discus but Tyler got 4th and Eli took 5th for the Pirates. Ann & I learned from the last meet and parked along the top of the hill and just sat outside the van, which created a natural shade barrier. There was a good breeze out there so once we got settled, it was quite pleasant out there. Next, the boys moved to the shotput pit. Luke & Tyler both qualified for that event. They both threw in the second flight. After three throws, Luke was setting in 4th place and Tyler 3rd so they both transferred to the finals for another three throws. Luke did better and better. On his 5th throw, he set a new PR with a throw just shy of 50 feet ? the goal he set for himself this year, recording a put of 49? 7.5???!! That was good enough for 3rd place and on his final throw, he nearly threw 50? again, but it was a scratch as it landed on the right boundary. But we were so proud of him bringing home 3rd place and Tyler finished 4th ? both very respectable. The only meet left is next week?s Sectional. The top three move on to Regionals. We?ll see all these teams again at that meet as well as a few others, so he has an outside shot at doing something special?so we?ll see what happens? Luke left with us afterward and we headed on home. We stopped at Taco Bell in Batesville for him to grab something to eat. We dropped him off at the high school and then we swapped vehicles at J & A Auto. Jerry replaced a couple tires on the Pacifica and did a couple other things to it. We did have a concern when we got it, as it said there was one tire that was low, but they all looked like they were up?hopefully, they?ll all be up when we go out there tomorrow to head into work! Our poor dogs were locked up in their pins all day. Somehow they managed to have no accidents. I?m glad we got the air conditioners in because the house felt great despite it being hot and humid that day. They ran around for a while outside while Ann & I ate our Taco Bell. We watched a couple DVR?d shows, but Annie fell asleep while I was wired and stayed up to watch that evening?s episode of Skinwalker Ranch before calling it a night myself.

I struggled to get out of bed on Wednesday morning. It was another fast day at work. I met with the local fire marshal to go over our plan of corrections and show hit the results. He was very happy with our compliance and we were given a clean bill of health for another year. After the inspection, we talked a little about the fire department and Luke?s quest to join the Greensburg force. Turns out, Marshal Todd will be one of the proctors at the training this weekend that Luke is planning to attend?small world? Vic & I worked outdoors a couple times and my word, was it hot and humid out there. I fasted through breakfast and by the early afternoon, my stomach was growling. Vic & I decided to run out to Ye Olde Fish House for some outstanding fish with a side of more fish! That afternoon, I finally started my monthly reports and got through the first three of them before it was time to leave for the day. I played 18 holes of frisbee golf on the airport property that afternoon. It as so hot & humid that I should?ve brought a towel to wipe my hands / arms before each throw because the disc slipped a couple times. On the third and fourth hole, several members of the airport staff were out playing on the course, including the president / CEO, who also sits on our Governing Board. We are really trying hard to have him consider putting in permanent goals with chains and buckets. He?s hoping the Parks Dept will do it due to liability. I talked with the guys for a little bit and apparently the goals just came in that day and they?re hoping to have them installed this week or next (they?re just temporary ones for the tourney next weekend) so that we can practice on them. I informed the guys that I wouldn?t be able to participate in the inaugural tourney due to it being the same day as Abby?s commencement. I did tell the organizer that I would still be interested in paying the entry fee as a donation (the tournament is a fundraiser for the airport museum) so that I could still get the commemorative tourney disc. That?s a bummer that I?ll miss it, but I?d do anything for my Bu?obviously? I threw a one over on the first 9 and then tied my PR with a 1-under, 26 to finish with a par 54 on the day. With all the heat & humidity (90 degrees but 100 ?real feel???), I thought that was a pretty respectable score. I picked up Ann and we took stuff for Abby out to Jami (Abs was headed there later to get her hair done) and then went into Dairy Queen. They were packed and we had a bit of a wait. We got blizzards, which made it worth the wait. Ann got one with cheesecake while I opted for the cheery & chocolate chips. We were so glad to have Black Betty that evening, as we rode home in comfort. I dropped Ann off at home and went out to the park for another 18 holes of frisbee golf on the Greensburg course. I think it was even hotter that evening. I thew a 24 from the front tees and a 28, which was still good enough for as sweaty as I was when I got that evening. The house felt wonderful but I couldn?t stay as I next went out to see swap vehicles. Luke had the truck when we got home. He did some work for Mom & Sandy that evening, after school & practice. Afterward, he came home to play some PS4 and then went out with his friends for dinner. Ann got another tub of Fireworks popcorn and I got in a vintage Hot Wheel and a Carrying Case for the collection. I grabbed a quick sandwich and we watched a couple DVR?d shows as well as a new show (to us, anyhow) called Bosch: Legacy on a new streaming channel called Freevee. We both fell asleep with the dogs out in the living room, enjoying the air conditioning?. Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos6/sis22.05.224.jpg" height="400" width="300" It was equally as warm (around 90 again), but the humidity was way down, thankfully. That morning at work, I did my weekly rounds, attended a Joint Commission prep meeting and took our glass vendor around to look at our fire doors so I can get some new fire-rated glass in them. The boys and I ran to Lowes for yard supplies during lunch and stopped at Great Wall for a quick bite to eat. I love the older couple that own it ? they?re always so nice and in good spirits. She always knows what each of us gets and always says, ?OK, see ya next week!??? when we leave. ???? I worked on reports that afternoon and then played some frisbee golf afterward. There was a strong breeze, which always makes it challenging out there. Still, I threw a 1-under on the first 9 and a 1-over on the second 9, again throwing a par 54 for the 18 holes I played. I was hoping they?d have the temporary goals in place, but I just played with the stakes instead. I hope they leave them up next week after this weekend?s tourney. I dropped Ann off at home when we got back to town so she could begin printing pictures for her big scrapbook weekend tomorrow. I then drove back to J&A Auto. I think I?ve been there everyday this week! I dropped off Black Betty, who needs her new tire sensor re-programmed. I picked up Betty White and headed out to the park to play some more frisbee golf. The park was packed with baseball and softball families everywhere. I remember fighting those crowds and figuring out how to best avoid them. I threw pretty well, though there were a couple stinkers. I had to dig into the bushes a couple times around the pond and then had to fish out my Leopard from the drink on 6. I was trying to avoid a car on the course, where a fisherman had it setting. I see that guy out there all the time and he?s very friendly. He helped me get it out, though it was touch and go a couple times because these discs don?t float really well. But we eventually got it. I felt bad, because afterward he packed up and left. I had some really good throws as well. My tee shots were hit and miss but my approach and putting were spot-on. I think playing with those stakes in Columbus are forcing me to sharpen my short game. I had a 22 on the front 9 and a 25 on the back nine to finish with a 7-under 47 for the 18 holes I played. I came back and cooled-off in the A/C, got cleaned-up and fixed a sandwich real quick. Ann was just finishing up with her pictures and we had just sat down to watch a show when Luke came home. I could tell by the expression on his face that something a little exhilarating had just occurred because he had this reserved smirk when he walked through the door. That boy is a good storyteller, so you have to take him with a grain of salt most times, but this time was different. He said that his car was malfunctioning and that it had shut off a few times on the way home from the YMCA and that he coasted into the driveway and the car died before he could even get it straightened up. He said he thought it was his alternator and so he proceeded to watch a You Tube video for it and said he could do it. I know I replaced the one on the truck and it was pretty straight forward. Doing anything on the Pacifica or Grand Caravan, on the other hand, is difficult because of how the engines sit in the frame. I helped him with figuring out how to work his tensioner and got him a light set up so that he could see out in the drive since it was getting dark. He got it out and went to the auto repair stores but neither had one in-stock. So, we came up with a plan for in the morning, put all the tools away and locked everything up for the night. While Luke showered, Ann & I watched a few DVR?d shows. She read and napped while I edited pictures until I fell asleep as well.

We did our normal Friday routine by working in Greensburg, just a little later than we are used to since Ann didn?t have any patients that day. We took the truck since the Pacifica was in the shop and the van was blocked in by the Town Car, which was dead because of not having an alternator. We grabbed breakfast at Dunkin, dropped off Ann downtown and then came back to the house to work from home. Luke was there, waiting so that he could take the truck and get his new alternator, which they had to order last night. I worked a half day then called it quits when Ann texted, saying she was ready. We went to Walmart and dropped way too much money ? I swear we have got to buy stock in those guys! We got everything put away and Ann popped a pizza in the oven that they had on sale by the deli for $3! It was more than enough for us. I loaded up Black Betty with Ann?s supplies and took her out to Burney to scrapbook with her friends that afternoon and well into the evening. Meanwhile, I came home to mow and trim the yard. It was so hot out there. I was hoping to work on the bare spots in the backyard but instead I came in and got cleaned-up and changed and then sat in the A/C, in front of fan to cool down and fell asleep. Meanwhile, Luke got his new alternator installed and his car running again?just to have it continue to fail, unfortunately. He went on to school a little late and then went on to track practice. Afterward, he came home to change and loaded up the yard tools and went to mow another yard. When he got back, we went to Auto Zone to get an air filter for the Hot Rod Lincoln, but that didn?t help either. The guys there think it is an electrical issue. We went to eat dinner at Burger King then he took me to pickup Black Betty and we came home. I had planned to go play a quick round of frisbee golf, but he asked me to find the voltage meter, which was buried in the garage. Once I got that done and helped him with a couple other things, it was too late to go out to the park, so I decided to go work on the backyard. I didn?t get too far along when Ann called, saying she was ending early because she was tired. I asked Luke if he could do it, but he was still busy tracing his ground wires so I ran out to get her and I got all the way out there and the stupid tire sensor went off again. Lexi warned me that the programming may take a few times before they get it right. I texted her to let her know and I assume I?ll have to run it back out there to them next week, unfortunately. When we got back, poor Luke was still out farting around with his car in the dark. He eventually gave up and came in to rest and get a good night?s sleep because he had a big day the next day. Ann & I caught up for a little be and watched a couple Law & Order shows on the DVR before she fell asleep. As I edited pictures, I watched the next episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and the first episode of the new season of Picard ? both on Paramount +. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos6/smp22.05.221.jpg" height="400" width="300" Saturday. He went over to Columbus for the first of his tests as he tries to get on with the fire department. He scored the highest of all participants that day on the CPAT. It was a myriad of physical challenges and he killed it! His car, on the other hand, did not fare as well. It continued to die on him when idling. He attempted to work it as a grounding issue for a while in the drive that afternoon, but it didn?t make any difference. He finally broke down and allowed me to contact Jerry, who I will need to call on Monday to set up an appointment. Ann & I got up shortly after he left and drove out to St. Paul to pickup goodies at Wild Flour bakery. After I dropped her off in Burney for day two of scrapbooking with her friends, I got busy with my day. I loaded up Betty White and drove over to Mom & Sandy?s house to mow. I chatted with them for a little while before I got started. I came home afterward to work on the strip of bare ground on the north side of our backyard, where Delilah runs up and down the fencerow. It?s probably useless until the neighbors and their dogs move out, but I tried to plant grass over there. I got out my metal rake and softened up the ground before using a couple bags of Scott?s Patch Master and watering it real good. We?ll see if it does anything over there. It was supposed to rain that afternoon, so I planned it to coincide with the weather, but it never did rain that day. Next, I went to Topps for a new mower blade on Luke?s Craftsman. The guy helping me got me the wrong size, so I had to go back out a second time to exchange it and got the right one installed. I went out to the park to play 18 holes of frisbee golf that afternoon. Abby called me in the middle of it and said she was in town and wanted to see me. She had been fitted for a bridesmaid dress (for Megan?s wedding). She & Megan went to The Beach for lunch and a drink. We talked for a few minutes then she went back to campus to continue studying for her tests next week. She has four finals altogether but is focused on two of them specifically. I had an average day of golf, throwing a 23 on the front 9 and a 24 on the back 9 for another 47 (same as last time on the course). I went to Auto Zone and picked up new headlights for the truck (something I noticed last night when Luke was driving it). It was pretty cool when I realized Luke & I were both out front, working on our vehicles. We had just gotten everything cleaned up and put away and came inside to get cleaned up when Annie called and said she was done and ready to come home. She kept busy, completing nearly 20 layouts in Luke?s scrapbook ? wow! Luke went out to get her while I jumped in the shower and when they got home, we piled into Black Betty and went for an early dinner at El Reparo to celebrate Luke?s accomplishments. When we got home, Luke got cleaned-up and then went out to Oakley?s house. They came back into town later with a couple others and then went back out again and spent the night with his buddies. That left Ann & I to have a quiet night with the dogs. We got caught up on our DVR?d shows, watching for several hours. When we fell asleep, Ann was smart and went on to bed. I stayed up to work on editing pictures and adding new music to my phone (to listen to next week while exercising), got wired and wound up forcing myself to go to bed around 3? Here are pictures of recent additions to my Hot Wheels collection.

I enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday while Ann got up and began prepping food for brunch. Since she was wiped-out after last weekend?s prom / after-prom activities, she didn?t host her annual Mother?s Day lunch for Mom & Sandy. Instead, she pushed it back to this weekend and moved it up a couple hours and cooked a ton of food. She made two egg casseroles ? one meat, one veggie, two quiches, hashbrowns, biscuits & gravy and a big bowl of mixed fresh fruit salad. It was impressive and easily fed Mom & Sandy, Dee & Jamie, Ann & I and Luke. She invited the kids back for another meal, but Matt & Taylor were busy and Abs wanted to stay on campus and study for finals. Luke came in a little late, but he made it. He sat by his Memaw and told her all about his CPAT certification. We all laughed at his photo, which was taken afterward and shows a Lukey that was more than a little winded ? LOL. Afterward, Sandy went home and picked up their other dog, Olive, to get her some socialization with our dogs and allow her to run around in a larger yard. She was a little squeamish with Delilah but did pretty good with Lola ? of all things. We sat out on the back porch for a couple hours ? well, I came in to finish editing pictures and watch the taped Indy Grand Prix race from yesterday, which ended in the rain. Now I?m officially excited for the Indy 500 to run this year. I talked to Rob & Sharon, who left the Pebble this morning and headed back to TN as another Week 19 came to an end. We said goodbye to everyone and the three of us took naps. I got up and did our weekly household chores like a few loads of laundry, a couple loads of dishes and picking up the house. I put on some USFL and NASCAR while renaming all this week?s pictures, putting some back for next week ? including all the prom pix. There were just too many to include everything this week. I wrote out all this week?s html code, finished up the video section and wrote out this week?s entry. I?m not sure why I had so much to do today, but it all worked out. I did spend an hour with Matt, going down a rabbit hole looking for a photo of Ann that turns out was a false memory. We did find some great pix from 2002 ? especially the Treasure Island ones. I so look forward to making new memories again down there. ???? Later, Ann made us cheesy Fireworks popcorn for dinner and we watched a new movie on Netflix about a doctor in Indianapolis called My Father. Afterwards, we binge-watched a few episodes of the new Bosch series on Freevee. Meanwhile, Luke got up from his nap and went out to the park to play some basketball then wound up back out at Oakley?s house for most of the evening. I finished up the blog while Annie read and we wound down the weekend chilling out with the dogs (who were worn out after their dog cousins visited earlier). It was a relaxing way to wind down the week and a nice way to put the kibosh on another fast week, here at the Scheu abode.

Next up is our Waybac segment which continues to feature the batch of photos from Aunt Sue, which spans several decades and has some great pictures of the Scheu family through the years. This batch also contains a couple great ones of Mom. We lead off in the 1940s: Honestly, I?m not sure who all is in these pictures, but I believe it to be circa 1943 with Aunt Sue and maybe some of the Deerr family; in the 1950s: Uncle John playing baseball in Sept. ?56, Tom, John, Sally with Mary out in front of the Highland Ave home, circa ?58, and then Dad, John & Mary out back of the Highland house, playing in the driveway in about ?59 ? something I enjoyed doing myself when I was little, a few years later; 1960s: Sue & Hank?s wedding announcement in April ?61, Dad, Mary & Billy in Dec ?64, Mom and Sally with Mary?s Confirmation Day in May ?69; 1970s: another great picture from McCormick?s Creek State Park in June ?70 wit Dad, Mary & Vicki, Sue & Hank in the early ?70s, Granny?s mantle in the Highland Ave home in Dec ?71, Sally & Barney, circa ?71, a great photo of the Funkhouser kids, Dad and his car, Uncle John and Barney on Easter Day in Apr ?75, another great pic of Uncle John, Farter, Uncle Goon and Bob S playing euchre in Sep ?75, and then another good one of Granny, Mary, baby Steven as well as Chris & Jason ? taken on 9th St in Mar ?78; 1980s: a classic photo of my cousins Barney, Kimmy, Chris & Jason in the late 80s at what I think might be a birthday party for Granny; and then 1990s: a good one of Chris & Jason ? this was on Jason?s Senior Prom night in May ?91, and the last two pictures are of Jackie?s kids from ?96 ? Jazmin as a newborn in Feb ?96 and Zak at 17 months. I really enjoyed this week?s group of pictures because there?s a little bit of everything in there?

And we wrap up with our video segment, which includes one new home movie this week as well as several from around the internet.

<iframe loading="lazy" width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Q3KpEgKBpGo" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we?ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one and stay safe out there. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu

Another week has soared past us.

It was back to work for Ann on Tuesday. However, we had a fast morning and then left work shortly after noon.

Thursday was another busy day. It was equally as warm (around 90 again), but the humidity was way down, thankfully.

Luke was the first one up and out the door on an incredibly busy Saturday.

Well, that does it for this week?s edition of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we?ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one and stay safe out there. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu

[1
