Luke did some odd jobs to make a little cash and was offered a part-time job from one of the current fire fighters who does construction on the side. He doesn?t want to commit to anything just yet until he learns the fate of this round of interviews with the GFD. Outside of that, he continued to spend as much time as possible with his buddies before they go off to college and the service. Abby had a full week of working at Sly Fox, up in Greenwood. She had safe commutes and enjoyed spending time with friends when she could as well as spoke to Will regularly. She continued getting things ready for her big trip over to Scandinavia in a little over a week. Matt had a busy week at Z-West, commuting from Carmel to Zionsville daily. Now that the teachers are back in the middle school, he and his staff are doing daily field trips. He said he?ll be doing that again this coming week as well. I know he was excited to take the kids to Indiana Beach and the Children?s Museum, among other places. It was good to see him this weekend and he seemed to be in good spirits as he gears up to change jobs after this last week of camp. Ann had a full week of work again. In fact, it was the first time in a couple years that she worked five days at the Columbus office. She enjoyed spending some time with friends this week. I had another busy week at work. We continue to have issues with the damned Covid bug, which has made its way back into our facility ? really putting a crunch on our staffing. In fact, we are having a job fair with immediate hirings this Monday – in case you or someone you know is looking for steady employment. Now is a great time to come work for us because you can have as many or as few hours as you want/need. I continued to work out in the yard with our new bushes, trying to get them through this dry spell and I finally got to mow this week as well. I played a lot of disc golf this week and coupled with the yardwork this weekend, allowed me to log a little over 19 miles of exercise. My diet seems to be working ? despite not being especially good the rest of the week?but that 48-hour fast is helping me lose a few pounds each week. Granted, it sucks ? big time ? but so far, it?s been worth it. I played 15 rounds of golf this week ? the most I?ve ever played ? which equals 135 holes! ?And you could tell by the results as I did very well, setting a new PB at both Columbus and Greensburg this week. The heat and humidity have been the big story this week (besides gas prices, food prices, electricity prices, shootings, the war in Eurasia and all that stuff going on in the world. We?ve kept the house closed up and thankful for the A/C ? for sure! We enjoyed gathering with family this weekend as Sandy & Grace celebrated being a year older. I hear that next week they are forecasting some precipitation as well as cooler temps. Let?s hope the meteorologists get it right so we can get a little relief from this heat! Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Scheu Family Blog.

It was back to work for the girls and I on Monday morning while Luke enjoyed sleeping in at Oakley?s house. Abs returned to Sly Fox, up in Greenwood and had a good day?for a Monday? On the way out of town, Ann & I saw a fence knocked down in the neighborhood by the golf course, dozens of big limbs down in the golf course and even a tree knocked over. I guess that big storm the other night was worse than we thought! Ann said her day went by quickly and wasn?t really sure what she did ? other than work and put out put out whatever fires popped up that day?so, a typical Monday. My day was much of the same. I had a packed calendar but only got to about half of it as I spent my day catching up paperwork, returning emails and attending meetings. It was overcast all day ? until I got out of work and went across the street to golf. It was uncanny. I only got maybe 6 paces onto the first hole and the sun popped out, instantly making it 20 degrees hotter! That sun was so intense- almost like it was pissed off for being denied for two days straight by all the cloud cover. It was 90 degrees in the shade by the time I got back to the car. But I had a phenomenal game, setting a new personal best with a 49 – thanks to a 24 on the 2nd nine. I was hot, sure, but I at least hydrated as I carried around my new water bottle that Justin picked up for me. It?s a pretty nice one that worked great at keeping my ice and water cold the whole time. When we got home, I played at the park but I was so tired that I struggled badly on the back nine. I noticed my pace was much slower as well and I developed a nasty headache I assume from my fasting. These two-day fasts can seem so long at times! I was pleased with a 50, seeing as to how badly I shot the disc that night. I was a sweaty mess when I got back home. I watered the shrubs and Delilah in the back yard then watered myself with one of the best showers I?ve had in a long time ? LOL. I was so relaxed afterward that I tried to watch a show or two and wound up falling asleep on the couch while editing pictures. I don?t even remember if I saw Luke that night, I was so tired. I wound up going to bed really early. Here are a big bunch of really cool pictures from the Packard Museum in Dayton that Luke & Jamie visited a few weeks ago ? thx to Luke for all these!

<img decoding="async" It eventually burned off by mid-morning but the temps remained in the 80s, thankfully. Unfortunately, the humidity returned, which I dislike more than the heat. I can take an 80- or 90-degree day, but if you add humidity to it ? forget about it. I continued fasting that day and could really feel the effects. Even though I don?t officially weigh in until Thursday, I snuck a peek and noticed that I had already dropped 3 more pounds from last week. I could feel it in my shorts and struggled to keep them up the entire day. I have already created 3 new holes in my belt, but I really need to do one more. I suppose that?s a good problem to have, right? Ann had a slow day, which is something she probably needed. She?s had headaches and body aches on and off for a couple weeks, so a little less stress is always a good thing. Abs continued prepping for her European trip, starting to ask questions – like how will her phone work in norther Europe and will she be able to plug in her phone and straightener in Scandinavia? We encouraged her to call 611 and ask for herself. Not sure she did that or whether or not she got much cleaning done in her room. We saw her a couple times after she returned home from work, but she mostly stayed in her room, talking with her sweetie. Luke got up and helped Gma by cutting vines off Dee & Jamie?s house and trimmed her tree. He started feeling bad about mid-day. We?re not sure if he was dehydrated, got a little too hot or ate something wonky, but he had some gastro issues and headaches that he couldn?t get to go away. Eventually, he got cooled down, relaxed for a couple hours with us on the couch and got some Gatorade and some food in him. He got to feeling better and wound up going out for a couple hours that night. I got my quarterly reports completed that day but nothing much else. I learned that one of my co-workers is the sister of the guy that shot the gunman at the Greenwood Park Mall over the weekend. I guess he?s being hounded by the press and just wants to be left alone, really struggling with the fact that he took another life ? even though he saved countless others. I guess he?s even received death threats. How awful? I got out of work a little later than I planned, but still managed to get in 18 holes of golf. The heat up, but I had my trusty water bottle, LOL. I still haven?t gotten used to carrying it around and feel awkward doing it. I like the minimalist approach ? a disc or three, my phone and headphones and let?s go! The wind was strong and blowing straight out of the south, making things challenging on 6, 7 & 9. I pretty much stunk it up on those holes during both rounds. The others I did fairly well and had a couple of approach shots that were fantastic. I?m finally starting to get the hang of these discs. At the start of the summer, I could throw my disc properly about 4 out of every 10 shots. Now I?m nearing the 7 out of 10 area. Despite the elements, headaches and stomach growling, I still threw a 53. I picked up Ann and by the time we got out of town, I was so focused on food that we talked about it for most of the commute home. ???? We wound up going to Sonic. We tried to use the app, but they don?t accept it out there yet. Columbus does, but that restaurant is in the other direction from home. ? Anyhow, we got a couple cherry limeade slushes (mine was diet) and Abs called asking us to get her one as well. We would?ve gotten Lukey something, but he was ill and sleeping at the time. I skipped playing golf at home and went pretty much straight to the kitchen and made myself dinner. It was nothing special, but it tasted so damn good! I tried to add some music to my phone that evening, but for some reason my SD card stopped allowing me write access so I can?t add or delete any files. I tried all my tricks, looked on the internet and nothing helped. So, I wasted about 3 hours messing with that when it was all said and done. Matt was supposed to call us that night, but he wound up taking the Z-West kids to Indiana Beach for work (must be rough, eh?). I image he was pretty well wiped-out afterward, so hopefully he?ll call tomorrow night. We started watched a show on Apple TV+ called Home Before Dark. It seemed pretty good, but Ann was tired and went on to bed. I stayed up to work a little on blog stuff until sometime after midnight and forced myself to go on to bed… Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.

<img decoding="async" time I was pushing snooze on my alarm. It was Mom O. You know it?s never a good thing when you get a call at that time in the morning. Turns out she?d been up most of the night. She got up at about 130 and found a bunch of red/blue lights flashing through the windows out front. So, she went out front to see what was happening. Low and behold, all the ado was about her! A big limb had fallen out of one her trees and smashed into the neighbor?s (Coach Moore) truck, parked out on the street. She wanted us to come take pictures and send to her so she could call the insurance company that morning. So, we drove over before work and took some pictures of the scene for her (just in case the insurance company needed them) then headed over to Columbus for work. I wonder if the storm over the weekend weakened it and it just took a couple days for it to finally have gravity take its toll? Thankfully, the car had no damage so it wasn?t even reported. The fire department got things cleaned-up, off the street and sidewalk and stacked nicely in the yard. Later, the street department came by, cut the rest of the big limb off, chopped it up and hauled it all away. How cool is that? I love living in a small town? As for our days, I never did hear from Matt. I?m sure he was tired from yesterday?s outing. Abby was a little late getting up and out the door for work. Thankfully she missed a big back-up from a wreck near where she drives. I saw her briefly at dinner that night, but that was about it. She retreated to her room to ?clean??? and I think she wound up falling asleep. Luke still wasn?t feeling very well that day. He stayed home all day and lunged around. He said even showering made him tired. So, he took it easy all day then went out to Oak?s house for a few hours after dinner. Ann had a busier day and now will have to work some odd hours and places in the coming days to complete everything that needs to be done. I had a busy day as well, catching up on a few things that had been pushed back, earlier in the month. Justin, Vic & I wound up going out for lunch at Arni?s. We tried to get Ann, but she didn?t have the time, plus there was a drug rep visiting that day as well. After work, I went outside and was met with a wall of nastiness. Not only was it in the 90s, but the humidity pushed the heat index into the triple digits. So, I paced myself, drank lots of water and only played 9 holes that afternoon. The wind was out of the west. Playing three straight days out there, the wind has come from three different directions, keeping things challenging and interesting ? which is cool. I shot a 1-under, thanks to one of the longest throws on the final hole ? not just on that hole, but one that I?ve ever had. I would estimate it was about 300?. That?s a goal I?ve been striving for all year?now I if I could just learn how to do it every time I throw, that?d be even cooler! Ann & I caught up on each other?s days during our commute home. We stopped at Needler?s to pickup food and drinks for that night. It was way more expensive than we thought, but damn was it good! While Ann made fish tacos and cauliflower rice for us, I went out to the park to play another 9 holes. I played a hybrid of back and front holes, just to shake it up a bit. It was still really hot, but I took my time and actually had fun. I threw from the back tees on 1, 3, 5, 6 & 8 and the front tees on the rest. I?ll have to do it again if it?s still hot like this tomorrow. Dinner was excellent that night and it was nice to sit down with the kids at the table and actually have a meal as a family. The only thing that would?ve made it better was having Matt there too. Afterward, Ann & I binge-watched 2 or 3 more episodes of Home Before Dark. Once Ann fell asleep in her chair, I watched a couple episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds before calling it a night. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos7/smp22.07.184.jpg" height="400" width="300" Abs was a little late getting up but still made it to work on time, thankfully. She had a good day, since it was pay day and she got a raise on her paycheck! She enjoyed using that new cash on a clothes shopping spree and also picked up a new suitcase. Ann had a busy day that made her day go fast. Luke was feeling better and wound up going to workout at the YMCA and later went out with his buddies until late. I had steady day. My schedule was actually fairly caught-up, which allowed me to do a couple of things that were hanging around from earlier this month. Vic & I went to Ye Olde Fish House for lunch. It was packed! I hadn?t seen it that busy since pre-Covid days. I was happy to see them doing so well. ???? However, the house was completely full and so we had to get it to go. I got the fish with a side of fish ? a-ma-zing!! After lunch, we had our marathon meeting day with PI, Safety Council & Safety Committee meetings. Once I finished up with everything, I headed out to brave the heat & humidity with a couple rounds of disc golf. For the 4th straight day, the wind was fairly strong and out of a different direction. This time it was out of the northwest. I few excellent shots and a couple duds, finishing with a 52 for the 18 holes. I picked up Ann and we came home, catching up on each other?s days during our commute. When we got home, I went back out in the heat and humidity (which was, at least, better than yesterday! I had a great couple rounds at the park, shooting a 44 ? a new PB for 18 holes. I stopped and spoke to a young couple out there playing in front of me. They turned me on to an app called U-disc that I have to look up soon! I got gas and slushies for Ann & I before coming home. We had a find-your-own dinner that evening and binge watched a few more of the Apple + show called Home Before Dark before heading on to bed.

We were up early again on Friday morning for work. Abs was the first one out the door again that day, headed back to Greenwood for the day. I went to an early-morning dentist appointment and received a good checkup. I grabbed Dunkin, picked up Ann and headed on to Columbus. Luke got up and began mowing and doing some other yardwork that morning. By noon, he was thoroughly worn-out and spent the afternoon cooling down in the house. I worked for a couple hours, tearing down computers in our computer lab and the education department in the gym. Both areas no longer require computers, so I will repurpose the equipment. I got it all moved back to my office and then a couple of my airport maintenance buddies stopped by in their Gator to see me. I just happened to be outside when they rolled up. They told me that their coworker (my other airport buddy and designer of the disc golf course on the airport property) had accepted a teaching position and today was his last day for the airport. In celebration of his big move, the team setup the baskets and spent the afternoon playing several rounds. I joined them for 3 rounds myself, shooting a 3 26s in a row. That course is so much better with actual goals instead of stakes (of course). I played the first 2 rounds by myself and the last half of the final round with the other 6 people in their department and said goodbye to Jonathon. It was blazing hot out that day and when I picked up Annie, I was pretty sweaty. We went to lunch at El Nopal for a couple margaritas and tacos. It was delicious, as always. When we got home, we changed into our comfy clothes, put on a show and took naps for a few hours. That evening, Luke went out to Oakley?s house while Abby had Mary over. We had a shot and a cocktail while playing a game of Sorry (Abby won, as always). Mary wound up staying the night with Abs. I finished watching the first season of the newest Star Trek series while Ann read and I wrote out the html code for this week?s blog entry. I bought the new single from one of my favorite new bands called Desert of Talking Shadows (the video is below) and then we watched another couple episodes of Home Before Dark before calling it a night… Here are some pictures of recent additions to my Hot Wheels collection.

I was up early and out the door on Saturday morning. I wanted to get at as soon as possible due to the impending excessive heat warning that was forecast for that afternoon. I loaded up old Betty White and we went over to Maryann & Sandy?s house to mow and trim. After I finished cleaning everything up, I also applied an entire can of Tree Wound on the tree that lost that great big limb earlier this week. Hopefully, that will give the tree a fighting chance to stay out of shock. I ran a couple errands, including going to Walmart. Man, I fit right in with the local crowd, full of grass and completely sweat through my gray shirt. Thankfully, I don?t think I stunk too badly! LOL! I got everything unloaded and found that it was actually pretty nice outside ? overcast and breezy ? so I decided to at least mow and trim the front yard and see how things go. When I finished the front, I opted to just keep going and knock it all out, so I did the backyard as well. Granted, by the time I finished, it was sunny and the breeze had died down ? making pretty warm?but I didn?t think it was THAT warm for a heat advisory. Meanwhile, Luke returned from Oakley?s house, late that morning, and retreated to his room after showering. He rested all day, napping on and off, before heading out that evening to a date at the putt-putt golf course. He wound up spending the night at Oak?s again that night. Abby got up that morning with Mary and they drove over to Cincinnati to go shopping all day. When they got back to town, they went out to the country club for Christy?s 50th birthday party. Jimmy put together a surprise party for her. We had hoped to go, but Ann already had plans for a date night with her BFF Amy. ???? They went to a movie and then had dinner at Big Sky. She said the movie was really good. I sat down with the dogs and passed out on the couch, napping for a couple hours. I woke up and checked-in my new Hot Wheels and wound up falling asleep again while watching the new Halo series on Paramount +. I was planning to go watch Bryan and Nothin Fancy at the new amphitheater in Rebekah Park, across town. I completely forgot about it and when Ann came home, we put on another episode of Home Before Dark on Apple TV and fell asleep, so I just went on to bed.

The girls enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday morning. I had planned to do the same, but woke up before the dawn, needing to pee. I tried to fall back to sleep two or three times but wound up just getting up and starting my day. I caught up on the blog and did our weekly household chores. Ann got up, made a bowl of her yummy pasta salad to take with us to Sandy?s birthday party that day, then took a nap in her chair ? now that?s how you spend a Sunday morning! ???? When we got to Mom & Sandy?s house, it smelled amazing. Jamie and the gals had been going at it for hours and they had food everywhere! Jamie made 4 pans of pork shots. Sandy made meatballs as well as my fave ? sausage balls! Mom had lunchmeat sandwiches and Sandy had different cheeses to put on them. Jamie also had 3 pans of queso to go with the dipping corn chips. Mom also made some deviled eggs that were really good. I was so full, but somehow made room for cake. There were 4 cakes in total that day. We sang to Grace first and then immediately started again for Gigi. Grace knocked all her candles out with flair and style whereas Sandy left one burning and had to get an assist by a 2nd breath. I only had one piece of cake, but it was a huge piece of ice cream cake ? yum!! ???? I was actually bloated for a period of time afterward and had to loosen my belt to avoid breaking it like I did my last one! We hung out for a while and watched some axe throwing before saying our goodbyes, grabbing some food and headed back home. Not only did Matt make it over that day, but Grace and her boyfriend Josh as well as Donna (Grace?s other grandmother) ? so it was a good turnout for the double b-day celebration. Matt came home for a bit to visit with Ann & I and get the Wii system from Abby to take with him up to Carmel. Once Matt went back up north, Abby commenced cleaned her room and began moving stuff out of the living room (Yay! FINANLLY!). This is the same stuff that I moved home in the Barneymobile on Abby?s graduation day from her dorm room?and yes; it is just now getting put away! Luke said he went to go hang out with Oakley, but Abby & Ann thought he might be going to meet his new gal, Samantha. You never can tell with that boy because he?s so private and such a storyteller? I put on the Pocono race and finished up the blog while Ann napped again. I woke her up after the NASCAR race and Shark Week began on the Discovery channel. She made us spicy, cheesy Fireworks popcorn ? the end of the bucket, actually. So, as she was popping, I was ordering the next 15-lb bucket of corn. We jumped around a little at first, trying to figure out which one we liked the best and a few years ago we settled on our current favorite ? Baby White Rice. It?s smaller and crispier than other types. We watched a couple shark shows and then Ann surprised me. She told me to turn it off?she is not happy with the newer / more-mainstream (strictly for entertainment and less like a documentary) shows that they have been moving towards the last couple years. When she saw the guys from Jack Ass and The Rock, she decided she was done for the night. So, we flipped over to Apple TV+ and watched the last two episodes of season one of Home Before Dark. It was a relaxing way to wind down the weekend and a great way to wrap up another fast week for the Scheu fam?

Next up is our Waybac section which continues to feature pictures from Dee?s digital camera in 2007, but also has a special surprise as well! Leading off, we begin with that surprise ? a couple pictures I hadn?t seen in a long time. For the longest time (and in an era before cell phones and digital cameras), these were the first and only pictures of Ann & I. Taken in November of 1993, this was Stacy & Danny?s wedding reception. I couldn?t make it to the wedding, due to working (I was working two jobs at that time) and was blown away at how pretty Ann was in her bridesmaid dress. We would cut the 2nd pic in half and carry it in our wallets (of the other person, of course) ? LOL. Ah, what a simple time it was for us back then? Next, we have one pic from 2006 with another Holi-Dog picture from the Main St. house in Dec. Finally, we move on to the magical year of 2007 ? Mar: Matt at ?A Night to Remember? band performance at the high school, where he played drums up on stage, and Sandy campaigning for mayor (we were part of the Gigster Group!); Apr: the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert at Deer Creek; May: Memorial Day weekend fun and Sandy at the primary elections; Jun: Gigi?s new boobs – LOL and summer vacation fun; Jul: Eiteljorg museum visit, 4th of July weekend festivities, Grace?s birthday, Tree City car show & Sandy?s birthday; Sep: Labor Day weekend, Oct: Van Halen concert at Deer Creek; Nov: Maryann?s birthday; Dec: the annual Owens family Christmas Eve party and Matt?s elementary basketball tourney.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="http://scheumann.us/BlogPhotos7/Waybac.1993.11.sdw01.jpg" height="300" width="400" Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we?ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu

We?ve enjoyed a good week, here at the Scheu abode.

It was a cooler, foggy morning on Tuesday. It eventually burned off by mid-morning but the temps remained in the 80s, thankfully.

We were awakened by a phone call on the home phone about the time I was pushing snooze on my alarm.

Thursday went by pretty quickly for us. Abs was a little late getting up but still made it to work on time, thankfully.
