We enjoyed a second week of amazing temperatures, here in southern Indiana. I know that global warming is ravaging precious areas of our beloved planet, but I have to be honest that it is pretty nice, here in this geographic area. It allowed me to enjoy another week of disc golf, despite some challenging winds ? as the temps were up in the 60s and 70s all week! Matt began doing triple duty ? a time of the year that he relishes. He worked his normal job from his apartment in Carmel and worked in Zionsville as the Event Coordinator and began his wrestling season as he began his fourth year as head coach of the middle school Eagles. Although we didn?t see him this week, we are hoping to see he & Taylor next weekend. Abby had another full week of work in Greenwood while staying with Will in Franklin. We did see her briefly this weekend and hope to see more of her & Will next weekend. Luke stayed busy, working with Chad at his home while attending Fire 1 classes in Indy and spending each day with Samantha. Ann had a full week of work and enjoyed spending a little time with friends a couple different days. I had an extra-large week of work, picking up an extra shift on the unit this weekend while breaking my streak of consecutive days of disc golf by taking the weekend off to rest my shoulder. I did not do well with my diet and could feel the difference in the way my belt fit but did manage to hit my exercise goal, logging about 16 miles of walking while playing 14 rounds (126 holes) of disc golf this week?and got my second hole-in-one of the year! The farmers continued pulling out the crops in their fields and now almost all of them are finished in our area. With the nasty winds this weekend, all three of our trees are completely void of leaves now. It is supposed to get back to normal temps soon, so I?ll have to finish up winterizing the house and have Luke re-rake the yard and get this yard mowed once more before the end of the season. This year has gone so fast; it?s hard to believe we?re headed to the 2nd week of November already next week? Hello again and welcome back to the latest chapter of the Scheu Family Blog. <\/p>\n

It was back to work on Monday morning. It was pitch black as we made our way back to Columbus that morning. It was still very wet from the weekend and it was forecast to rain on and off the whole day. It never really did much, thankfully. It was a fast day at work on Halloween. The kids were really good that day as they dressed up for the day. Many of our staff dressed up as well, which was great. I joined about a dozen staff members in handing out candy to the kids at they trick-or-treated after their AT class. I ran a successful first shift fire drill. I?m glad we waited because the kiddos were in a much better space that afternoon. I played golf at the AirPark after work and used my new Zuca cart, which was really cool. I played OK but had a special tee shot on 15 as I threw a hole-in-one! It was only the second time ever in my short career (I think I?ve been doing this now for about 6 months or so). I was pretty excited, obviously, and with the adrenaline pumping afterwards probably threw a little too hard on the final three holes and hurt my shoulder. It was nothing bad, but my right side of my neck was a little sore that evening. I finished with a 53 that day with a nice round of 25 after hitting a long putt on 17. Trick-or-Treating began at 5 in Greensburg that evening, so I didn?t have time to go play golf at the park that night. Instead, we were greeted to a several little ghouls and goblins in the neighborhood, so we started handing out candy right away. It was a good turnout, but nothing like we were used to. There were definitely more than last year ? probably 50-60 kiddos came to see us that night. I was really hangry that night and broke my fast at 24 hours, unfortunately. Ann and I began watching Interview with the Vampire series on AMC that evening. We had been taping it and it was pretty good, so we watched a couple episodes until I fell asleep. I wound up going to bed before even Luke got home from Samantha?s house that night. I watched the football game from the bedroom but didn?t make it to the 4th quarter ? LOL. Still, I wound up doubling up Justin?s score, by getting like 170 points! If I only win one game all year, I?m glad it was vs. my good friend Justin ? just so I can have bragging rights for a year! It was pitch black again on Tuesday morning as we commuted into Columbus. It was eerily warm ? considering it was the first day of November. What global warming?? The temps rose all the way into the upper 60s that day. I didn?t think we?d see that again in 2022 but glad I was wrong! It was another fast day at work for Ann & I. We worked a few hours that morning then went to see Jami and get our monthly haircuts. We talked about going to lunch afterwards, but Ann was too busy so we just ate at work. I had an equally fast afternoon and didn?t even realize what time it was when I looked up and saw it was quittin? time! I played golf on a beautiful afternoon. Unlike yesterday, it wasn?t overcast that afternoon and I was a little sweaty by the time I finished. I had some good throws but didn?t try too hard on my tee shots and instead focused on my midrange throws to save my shoulder. I realized it was the first time I had played nine straight days this year and my body was starting to feel it. I?m glad I went easier and didn?t force things as my shoulder felt much better when I finished that night. Despite no wind, it was not one of my best rounds ? throwing a 54 (par). We ran a couple errands when we got back to town that night, including getting our weekly cherry limeade slushes at Sonic. With the shortened days, it was only moments from sundown when we got home that night?so I had no time to go play golf at the park. I do hope to finally get back out there tomorrow night. We had another find-your-own dinner night and binge-watched the rest of the Interview with the Vampire shows we had on the DVR. I put on another shower afterward, but we both fell asleep. Meanwhile, Luke worked all day with Chad, doing construction stuff, then picked up his truck from J&A Auto. Jerry surprised him by not only getting it done early but also saving him about $600 off his original quote! Luke was ecstatic and couldn?t stop talking about how much he loves that damn truck! ???? He went to his Fire 1 class up in Indy with Alex that night. By the time he got home, he was pooped ? showering and heading right on to bed. <\/p>\n

It was still night when we left for work again on Wednesday morning?I guess that?s why we are dialing up Daylight Savings Time again this weekend. At least now we have a little bit of daylight by the time we get home ? next week, I?m not so sure how it will look. It was supposed to get up into the 70s but I don?t think it ever got out of the 60s. ?And that was just fine by me! We ran into a little bit of fog on the way in to work, but nothing too much. We mapped out an alternate route around the impending construction at the Lowe?s railroad tracks on the bypass. Looks like we?ll only lose about two minutes, so that?ll work for a month or two. I focused mostly on doing the monthly nursing department purchasing that day at the facility. Brent took me out for my birthday lunch with Vic. We wound up going to Chipotle, which was really good ? and a little overpriced, if you ask me. After work, I enjoyed playing 18 holes of disc golf across the street at the AirPark. A weird thing happened ? something that has never happened before. When I teed off on 10, I had to go around the mandatory telephone pole, like always. But this time, I cut it a little close and it actually hit one of the wires. However, unlike in past times, this time it actually stuck! I wasn?t sure what was happening at first, but when I walked up, I discovered that it had gotten trapped in a metal piece that connected wires together. Upon further inspection, I found it was a Comcast cable line. So, I was able to get out my extension pole and get it unstuck without electrocuting myself! In the end, I managed to throw a 54 (par) again. Annie and I got caught up on each other?s days on our commute home then I dropped her off and went out to the park to play a twilight game real quick. It was my first time out there in a few days, so I just played the front 9. I stopped on the island briefly to help a fellow golfer look for his disc. Unfortunately, we couldn?t find it and I fear it may have been submerged in the pond. I threw a good game, ending with a 21 (6 under par) and was actually thinking of continuing with the back nine. But the sun was setting, so I headed on home. I found Luke & Sam out front, cleaning up Sandy?s car. I?m not sure what sort of deal he worked out with his Gigi, but he?s had her car for a few days now? He said he worked with Chad again all day and was pretty tired that evening. He took Sami out for a quick dinner before she went on home. He didn?t stay up long afterward and fell asleep early that night. Hopefully he will get the yard raked tomorrow because it really needs it badly. Ann & relaxed with the dogs, watching a few DVR?d shows. We eventually both fell asleep, but when I woke up, I turned on the World Series and caught the last two innings of the Astros no hitting the Phillies. It was only the 2nd in the Fall Classic?s storied history that a no-hitter was occurred! I just wish I knew some of the guys that were playing. I don?t follow baseball anymore like I used to when I was younger, so all of the guys that I know have now retired or moved on to coaching?damn, I?m old… Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.<\/p>\n

Thursday brought with it another dark start to the day and with it came the heaviest fog of the year. It was so thick in spots that even I had to slow down ? LOL. Ann & I both enjoyed fast days. Mine was spent in meetings, purchasing and going to lunch with Justin & Brent. Justin bought lunch for my birthday and for the ass-smacking in fantasy football last week! He treated me to one of my faves ? Arni?s ? for a Jr. salad and pizza?yum!! After work, I enjoyed playing 18 holes of disc golf at the AirPark on a gorgeous afternoon. The sunny skies and 70-degree temps made it feel more like the end of September than the beginning of November! I threw pretty decent with several nice mid-range \/ approach shots that nearly went for long birdies. In the end, I wound up 1-under (53) par. I dropped Annie off downtown at Carriage on the Square, where she met up with her scrapbooking buddies for a girls? night out dinner. I went to Needler?s to get supplies for Poker Night and then went out to the park for a quick game of golf. I did the front 9 and did decent, throwing a 22 (5 under) par. I met up with a dude named Luke out there. I?d seen him the night before and helped him look for a lost disc. Turns out, he knows Coach Nieman and works for the Lowe?s?small world! We played the second half together and he seems pretty nice. I hope to see him out there more often. I came home and sliced up deli meats and cheeses, including the elk summer sausage from Norway that Will & Abby brought back from their summer trip overseas. Our band of merry men met up at the Sunken Boat Bar that evening for a night of revelry. Rick was already out there when I came in through the basement door. He had the pick ?em sheets for this week. I was saddened to hear of the death of his nephew, out in California. He will miss next week?s game to fly out to be with Lynn for the funeral. ? Scott brought last week?s cards and my $ for winning! We ended up with a full house, if you?ll excuse the pun. There was Bryan, Rick, Scott & I, followed by Pat, Bob and Mark. Only Alan was missing that evening, so we gave him the ?salute??? to show we missed him, LOL! ???? We had lots of great food from Bryan?s homemade keto pizzas to Rick?s amazing lobster mac & cheese (it was a little less keto) and from Scott?s jalapeno deer sausage to Pat?s Red Lobster cheddar bay biscuits ? we ate very well. We played dozens of different card games, watched a good football game on the big screen and enjoyed a few too many cocktails. I broke even on the night, so I felt pretty good about the night. I tried to watch a couple shows when I got home that night; instead, I fell asleep and woke up at like 2 or 3 in the morning and made my weary ass to the bed? I was a little slow getting moving on Friday morning for some reason? Ann & I went to Dunkin before dropping her off at the downtown office. I ran to Walmart then came back to work from all day. I had three goals for the day and I was able to achieve all of them. By the time I finished that afternoon, I was ready to go play some golf. Bryan had made plans to join me that afternoon, but he was running late and had plans ? early that evening ? to attend the big United Fund event. So, I went out solo on a rather blustery day. I kept score there on the U-disc app for the first time, which was pretty cool. I wound up with a 4-under (50), which isn?t very good for me ? but with the wind the way it was, I was happy to be under par! When I got home, I began raking & blowing all the leaves in the lawn. I?ve been asking Luke to do it for over a week now, so I got tired of waiting and just did it myself. Unfortunately, I ran out of daylight and although I got them all piled into four large heaps, didn?t have time to bag them. I asked Luke to help me with them in the morning, but he?s already got plans. However, he did say that he would do it as a belated birthday gift for me when he gets back from Samantha?s softball tourney. Work called and asked me to work 2nd shift tomorrow, so I?ll be at work by the time he gets back tomorrow. I could?ve killed Delilah. I had no sooner finished raking and put the tools away when she and Lola began horseplaying and running. Delilah took off sprinting and instead of going around the huge pile of leaves, she jumped right into it and sent them flying! ? I got cleaned-up and grabbed something to eat before we sat down and got caught up on a bunch of our DVR?d shows. Luke & Sam got back from Greenwood, where they had gone for dinner and to buy a new smart stereo for his truck. They weren?t here long that evening as they went back to her house and spent the night so they could leave at 630 in the morning for the tournament. I edited pictures and videos for the blog that evening, staying up a little too late watching last weekend?s Xfinity race. I loved hearing Gibbs get booed ? LOL!<\/p>\n

We enjoyed sleeping in on Saturday morning. With the house opened up, we could hear the breeze, the leaves rustling and the light rain ? perfect sleeping atmosphere, if you ask me! In fact, we slept in a little too late. Ann?s phone didn?t charge overnight and was completely dead. She had set an alarm to get up and go out with Amy that morning. Unfortunately, Amy got us out of bed when she rang the doorbell ? oops! I had aspirations of playing a quick round of frisbee golf that morning, but with the raindrops and the strong winds, I finally broke my string. I had played twelve straight days until that day ? a new record for me. Instead, I put on the NASCSAR cup race from Martinsville last weekend, wrote out all of this week?s html code and watched my leaf piles slowly erode and blow back into our yard as well as our neighbor?s yards. What a crazy end to that race. Ross Chastain made a video game move to advance to the championship round next week. The replays looked like it was on fast-forward. It took me a few times to process what the hell happened. He put it up on the wall and went full throttle and set a fastest lap record to pass Denny Hamlin. Wow! Ann & Amy went to Columbus for shopping therapy. Abby met up with them and brought Ann home so the girls could change before heading to Brittney?s baby shower. I can?t believe how old Abby & her friends are getting: we have Brittney?s baby shower this weekend and Megan?s wedding next weekend! Damn, we?re old? The girls got home just as I was pulling out to head into work. I stopped and talked with them for a minute then made my way over to Columbus, where I worked second shift on the 300 unit. I worked with Peggy again that evening and she does such a good job with those girls. I just have to follow her lead because of the rapport she has with them. We had another great night with those kids on that unit. I was pretty tired by the time I got back home. Annie waited up to tell me good night. Luke never got the leaves bagged up because he didn?t get home until after dark. He wound up going back to Sam?s house again that evening to stay with her family. I thought about a drink & cigar on the back porch but opted to grab some grub and watch the championship truck race. Afterward, I wound down with a couple SVU episodes (from the weekly Saturday marathon on Ion) before calling it a night. Here are pictures of recent additions to my Hot Wheels collection. <\/p>\n

We ?fell back??? overnight as Daylight Savings Time ended, early that morning. It was nice to gain an hour overnight. Ann made biscuits and gravy for breakfast that really hit the spot. I watched the championship Xfinity race and was really hoping that someone would wreck Gibbs but instead he took the checkers and the title. We did our weekly household chores as we set our fantasy football teams while watching the weekly ESPN show to help us. We watched the start of the Colts game but it quickly became evident that the Pats had their number and so we turned it off and watched RedZone instead. I played Will?s Easter Towel team this week, who was slated to beat me fairly easily. It was close for a while, but he eventually began pulling away by the end of the early games. However, by the end of the night, things were neck and neck with one game left to play on Monday night. Luke came home with Sam briefly that afternoon but they left only minutes later and were gone the rest of the day. I think he spent the entire weekend with her family. I finished up the blog while watching football and finally began checking in some new Hot Wheels from my birthday. That big lot that I won from that online auction in St. Paul really paid off. It had 43 cars. I got through roughly half of them and low & behold, I?ve already found 15 that I didn?t have already! Lots like this are potluck?and this time it was good! We flipped between football, the NASCAR championship race. Ann made Fireworks popcorn for dinner and we watched several of our favorite shows like SEAL Team, SWAT, Fire Country & Blue Bloods that evening. It was a perfect way to wind down the weekend and a great way to bring another fast week to a close?<\/p>\n
