On Monday, we were all anxious to welcome the girls back home from Vegas. Naturally, they had plenty of tales to tell, including their adventures at Dick?s Last Resort w\/ Taco?s belly, making donations at several of the casinos on the strip, their Terry Fator show, the Cabo Wabo margaritas evening, the jell-o shots incident, their trip up the Eiffel Tower at 3 a.m., their “French” cashier at the gift shop, midget Elvis and how nice it was at their hotel, the Bellagio – which had a chocolate fountain. Rather than to list the rest nor go in to all that here and because what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas; I will not be telling those stories here nor sharing all the wonderful pictures from their weekend. But I do have several to share (some have been edited to ensure family compatibility) and Gigi just gave me a bunch more that will have to wait until next week. But, we wanted to say thanks to Dee Dee for help in getting Abby to and from dance and helping out in general while the girls were out of town ? couldn’t have done it without your help…so, ?Thanks, Dee!!???<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, we were double-billed as Abby had Family Fun Night and Matt had a wrestling meet. We started with Abby, heading out to the elementary school. First up was Science Fair results. We went to the 4th grade gymnasium, where they had all 200+ entries set up. We were thrilled to learn that Abby earned Grand Champion in the Earth and Space category! Way to go, Bu! We?re getting good at the earthquake presentations?this is the third one and all three have been Grand Champions! That took a little longer than we had anticipated. By the time we headed in to the cafeteria for the second part; I had already been in contact with Matt. As it turned out, during weigh-ins, their guy didn?t make weight, so Matt would win by forfeit! That makes his record officially 3-0! What a great start for him. Abby?s special night continued as she was recognized for achieving Grand Champion status for 4th grade Science Fair. Afterward, her class sang several songs. The theme that night was Black History Month. She also got to participate in an extra song at the end about Science Fair that was cute. After she finished, we rushed over to the junior high, just in case Matt might pick up an exhibition match. I?m glad we did?Matt indeed was scheduled for the last match of the evening, to face their heavyweight. This guy was huge and Matt was a little apprehensive. He was a trooper and looked at it as a way to get valuable mat time. That was about all he got out of it; as this guy was bigger, stronger, faster and much more experienced. Matt toughed it out, lasting about 3 minutes fighting from off his back before finally succumbing (it honestly looked like David & Goliath!). He had a smile and got kudos from his teammates, coaches and other parents for his positive view and good nature. We were very proud of Matt giving it a go and even stepping on that mat with that behemoth! The added attitude check afterward was just the icing on the cake. We have a special young man in that one?<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, we were thrilled to see Matt in the paper, as well as Abby; recognizing their recent accomplishments. I had neglected to mention that Matt had been in the paper on two previous occasions as well as on the front page of the Jr. High school webpage for his grappling victories. On Thursday, even Ann got in on the action by getting her name in the Columbus paper in the Orchids & Onions feature!<\/p>\n

On Friday, it started snowing. The forecast was for 4 – 8 inches. It started off here as rain and changed over to freezing rain, sleet and eventually snow. It made for an interesting day, to say the least. They cancelled school in Columbus but not in Greensburg, I left early as it got pretty nasty when the weather turned colder in the late afternoon and everything went from wet to frozen within an hour. We ended up getting about 4 ? inches at our house. Ann called me when she got home, remarking at how big the snowflakes were ? that she had never seen any this big in her life. She said they looked like 3??? cotton balls falling from the sky. The dogs loved it, apparently. They do like the snow and go in and out as frequently as we?ll open the door for them. Matt?s wrestling practice was cancelled for that night, as well as the tourney he was supposed to attend at Triton Central on Saturday morning. You may remember that the Triton Central tourney is where Matt broke his ankle last year? We decided against going out for dinner on family night due to the inclimate weather and opted for a huge bowl of Ann?s popcorn! We watched a Looney Tunes movie on the Xbox via Netflix and then played a few video games to make the night complete. Lukey made a picture of him and Grandpa Bryan playing…not sure what they’re playing, but they are playing. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

On Saturday, we took our time getting going before going out to brave the elements. We shoveled the snow off the drive and went sledding. We had the hill to ourselves for the first half hour or so. By the time we left, there were about a dozen other kids out there. It was so cold and the wind was really strong. You can really hear it on the video. We were out there for about an hour and a half altogether before heading to Burger King for hot chocolate and a warm lunch. \ud83d\ude42 We spent the rest of the day inside, keeping warm and playing video games. I did our taxes online this year, at the Turbo Tax website. Ann & I both looked for the big display that we?d seen annually at Wally World year after year, but neither of us had seen the product in the stores this year yet. I?m sure we just missed it, but I finally got tired of waiting and went online to see what they had to offer. I was impressed with how much it looked and felt like the CD version we?ve gotten for the last several years (a decade or so now?). I don?t know if a newer PC and broadband helped with that feel, but it was pretty easy and I had it done in about an hour or so. I wasn?t pleased with having to enter in all of my personal info again (the CD version saves a small file on your computer with this info for use year after year). The Indiana state website hosted the iFile program again this year, allowing us to do our state taxes for free, online. Overall, we were very pleased with both returns this year?and we love direct deposit! \ud83d\ude1b I fixed our friend Allen Smith (of Biggest Loser fame)?s laptop afterward and tried working on Dr. George?s desktop PC. I figured out the issue and have the fix; but can?t figure out a way to apply it; so I?m doing more research today. Speaking of today, we are very excited to have 8 ? hours of Super Bowl pregame this year ? NOT! We couldn?t believe it when three channels all started their pre-game activities today at 10 am. We are planning to have Ann?s family over for dinner, snacks and the game in hi definition. Ann is making a bunch of our favorite snacky-type foods and I think that may be just as important as a Colts victory tonight! \ud83d\ude42 Go Colts!! (…although I hope our Purdue-alum, Drew Brees does well too…just not TOO well!!) <\/p>\n
