Well We Got No Class?<\/p>\n

Ya know, I was just telling someone the other day that (at that point) the kids had attended school only twice the past two weeks – and in fact at one point they went to school 2 out of the last 12 days (weekends included of course!)?and as it turned out, they ended up attending school four times over the span of 16 calendar days! It reminded me of the winter of ?77 when we had that nasty blizzard (except not quite<\/em> as much snow!). I can still remember being snowed in to our house and having to have our neighbors (Bev & Doc) shovel us out. Obviously, there was no way to get the car out of the driveway, much less down the alley; so we walked down to my best friend, Mark?s, house. Normally, that would take about 30 seconds (1 block)?however, this trip was next to impossible, as the snow was up to our chests. It took us roughly a half hour. We ended up staying at their house for a few days. It was crazy. We loved playing out in the snow and being off school! In that same light, the kids have loved the weather lately. We ended up getting about another foot of snow. Although it didn?t keep us from making it in to work, it was pretty crazy. At one point; we had shoveled snow at work four times (or about every hour or so) and still couldn?t keep up with it! The old Toro snow blower locked up on us and died. \ud83d\ude42 I?ll see if my mechanic guy there at work can look at it this summer when we get caught up (at least I hope we eventually get caught up!). Sandy?s Crossfire is stuck in their driveway\/side yard and is now snowed in. The WTRE Suburban is broken down, so she ended up borrowing our Grand Caravan since Ann & I carpool over to Columbus most days anyhow. Matt has been a big help with clearing the white enemy. He also helped shovel out Mr. Dodd?s driveway, which was a very cool thing of him to do.<\/p>\n

Last week, I forgot to mention that Maryann & Sandy joined us for Valentine?s Day. Ann got the kids a few gifts to open and we all enjoyed a heart-shaped biscuit, eggs & bacon breakfast that morning! That afternoon, we watched the Daytona 500. I was surly when Gordon got wrecked again and the race was painful to watch, as chunks of the asphalt came up during the race, causing the red flag to fly not once, but twice ? for about 2 hours all told?officially making it the longest Daytona 500 in history. However, new episodes of the Simpsons, Family Guy & Cleveland Show were well worth the wait! The kids and dogs both enjoyed spending time out in the yard with snow ball fights, building forts, shoveling and just enjoying all the precipitation. Mom also sent me a very cool card and picture of the two of them at their “senior” prom! \ud83d\ude42 Sorry, Mom, I couldn’t resist!! Love you! In addition, Abby brought home a nice picture in a frame from her school teacher that she took at science fair. We thought that was very, very nice of her.<\/p>\n

We made it through my third, big regulatory survey on Wednesday. The Indiana State Board of Health inspector dropped in, unannounced, to say hello and inspect our dietary department. I was so proud of my employees. The inspector was very impressed and was forthcoming with several compliments. We made it through with flying colors, sustaining only two non-critical items we needed to correct; which we did immediately before he even left. Dennis was thrilled when I called him as well. Lenny and Gary and their staff did a kick-ass job on that kitchen! I can only hope that we will get through in as good of shape with our fourth biggie?which just happens to be on Monday. The State of Indiana Licensing will be in for their annual visit. They will be with us for the whole week (yuck!). We have worked our tails off in preparation over the last few months. And although we didn?t get it all done, I am hopeful that it was enough? <\/p>\n

On Thursday, we finally had school again ? albeit a two hour delay! It was just as well, as Matt & Ann went in to the guidance counselor?s office to meet with his high school GC. We talked with Matt about his classes the night before, so they already had everything lined out when they went in; it was just weird to come to the realization that our baby is going in to high school next year. Damn, we?re old. He has decided to go for a double honors diploma. On top of the Core 40, he is going for an Academic Honors & Technical Honors diploma! You go, boy!! That night, we left work early and drove down to Sunman-Dearborn Middle School for a wrestling meet. Matt got to be captain with his good buddy, Joel. The team won for the second time this year, but Matt lost in an exhibition match ? going up against a guy a lot heavier than him because they didn?t have a guy his weight. He could have challenged a teammate at another weight class?however, due to the snow days, that chance never came… We don?t like him wrestling at these higher weight classes anyhow; it worries us that he might end up injuring himself again. But he won?t listen to us; he wants to compete. I can?t blame him though, as I?d probably have done the same thing. We hope that coach will find more competition his own size so he can go against guys his own size in the coming weeks! He did better against the larger opponent, but still ended up losing by four points in a quick, 3-minute exhibition match that ended the evenings? events. We?re still proud of him for being a gamer and going out there in the first place against that bigger guy. Here?s the video from Matt?s match: <\/p>\n

On Friday, we started off at a chilly -2 ? the coldest of the year; but ended up above freezing for the first time in a few weeks. That night, Ann went scrapbooking with Amy at Mrs. B?s, here in town. The kids and I got Mancino?s takeout and came home to watch a couple movies off Netflix via the Xbox. We all ended up falling asleep on the couch. \ud83d\ude42 On Saturday, I went over to Columbus to work on Dan (one of Ann?s docs)?s wireless network. I met up with George (her other doc) and we got him up and running. I got home in time to take the kids out sledding. The snow was a little sticky (wet), so we had to ?break in??? the hill. We had the hill to ourselves, which the kids loved, for most of our stay. We had a blast, especially when Matt kept trying to go up a steep part of the hill instead of walking around. \ud83d\ude1b I got a couple of really great shots of the kids, with the snow flying? When we got home, we built a snowman – called Joe (don?t ask?). They did a good job with him and had a great time building him! When we tried to get a picture with him at the end, Luke pulled a sneak attack and creamed Matt in the face with a snowball. Needless to say, Matt got retribution. It made for some fun pictures?we finally came in when Lukey?s hands became ?scalding cold!??? \ud83d\ude09 Here?s our weekly montage of clips:<\/p>\n

On Sunday, we did our normal chores around the house and I worked on George?s home PC all day. I have a nice selection of Waybac photos this week. Leading off this week, we have several early photos. The first is my Grandpaw Brown in one of his earliest known photos of him on the Lafayette police force in the 40?s; the next is of Ann?s Grandma & Grandpa Townsend from some time in the 50?s, I think; then we have a fun one of Grandmaw Brown and Aunt Midge dancing in the bathroom; a sweet picture of a ?64 Ford Mustang painted up for the Pirates big game; next is Mom in her living room with a big date in May of ?65; and then another one of Mom, this time feeding me (looks like a couple of my cousins and GGP Morgan are also there) at a possible Morgan reunion (?)…Mom; any idea of where we are here?<\/p>\n
