Abby and her squads have all the steps in their dance routines and now are just trying to fine-tune them, gearing up for the competitions. That night, I received the official word: Redamak?s had opened for the season today! I smell a roadtrip this summer…For those of you that don’t know what Redamak’s is; it is the home of, “The Hamburger that made New Buffalo, MI famous!” I remember sneaking “over the boarder” to go up to Redamak’s for a hamburger a Silver Bullet with my best friend Mike. For some reason, Coors light came to Michigan before it was plentiful in Indiana…especially on tap! …and with the drinking age being 19…well…you get the idea… On Tuesday, Matt had a wrestling meet at the middle school, facing off with Franklin County (AKA Brookville). He wrestled in the 185 lb weight class (yeah!). Grandma and Gigi even made it out to the event that night. Matt did not disappoint, dominating his match. He pinned his man in the 2nd period, much to the crowd?s delight! We were very proud of his humbleness, as his opponent had been prodding him in a futile attempt to intimidate him ? which only served tick Matt off. Afterwards, instead of showing him up, he went about his business and acted more mature than I was at his age. The Pirates came from behind to nip the Wildcats, 63-54. Here is a video from that night, as well as the next meet, described below. We had several video issues that night, as I forgot to reload the memory card (it was stuck in the card reader at home still – duh) and then when we finally get the camcorder out; it ended up malfuctioning several times. You’ll see what I mean when you watch this next video – I’ll apolgize ahead of time for the rough watch. …Ann’s excitement didn’t necessarily help things either, but I can’t blame her; Matt’s matches are usually pretty exciting!:

On Wednesday, Ann went scrapbooking with Amy for the night, so the kids and I got take out from Koch?s and went home and watched American Idol. The guys were so bad that night that we all fell asleep on the couch! 🙁 That’s sad… On Thursday, I travelled to Bloomington with Dennis to witness our sister facility ? Meadows – go through their Life Safety survey with the Joint Commission. They did very well and I took a lot of notes. I definitely have some work to do before I am ready for a survey of that magnitude – due in February of next year. That night, we hurried home to travel to Batesville for another wrestling meet with Matt. Lukey was fun to watch as he pal-ed around with his buddy Kayla from school. They are so cute to watch together. Matt again made weight for 185, but their guy did not; therefore Matt bumped up to heavyweight for his varsity match. Matt made a couple of mistakes against the heavier opponent (he gave away about 30 pounds to that guy) and gave up a couple points. But, he didn?t panic and worked his way back in to the lead and eventually pinned the big dude in the third period! He hurt his ribs again in practice this week, as he had the previous week. During this match (you can see it on the video below), the guy lands pretty hard right on the rib cage and momentarily stuns Matt. Here is an alternate video of that match (also seen in the above video) as well as his second match that night, described below:

To his credit, Matt not only toughed out that match, but he also went back to wrestle the guy at 185 that didn?t make weight in an exhibition match after the varsity matches had ended. The child was severely overmatched by Matthew, who pinned the kid in 23 seconds!!! That was by far his quickest victory of the year! Way to go, Scheu! That raised his record to 7-0 officially (varsity) and 8-2 overall ? including exhibition (or JV) matches. The Pirates looked much improved tonight, started off strong and never looked back. They destroyed the Bulldogs, 75-30. He has had a great year, as has the team. They are all getting better and better each meet; gelling at the right time of the season. I don?t believe they will make up the game against Connersville (which came during one of their umpteenth dozen snow days!). However, they are scheduled for 2 meets next week and then the end of the season tourney is next Saturday at Brookville. We signed Matt out after the meet and went across town to LaRosa?s! Mom, you may remember us taking you guys there a couple times. They have very good antipasto salad, pizza and calzones. Here is an alternate video of his second match (sorry, this video is screwed up as well – it actually ends at the 2 minute mark, so you can stop it after it goes blank – yet another reason to get rid of that darn camcorder):

On Friday, we had popcorn and instead of family night, Luke had his best friend Alex over to spend the night. They had a lot of fun; playing and running amock in the house, wrestling with Matthew and sleeping up in Lukey?s top bunk, falling asleep to a Star Wars movie. They are so cute together. Saturday morning, the boys were up at the butt crack of dawn, running and yelling. They played with legos and trains until it was time to leave. We went to Columbus for haircuts at noon with Jamie. She did a wonderful job as always. We were in pretty desperate need of trimmings, especially me. Afterwards, we went Johnny Carino?s for lunch. The gals were delighted to have their favorite waiter for the meal ? the guy from ?Ratatouille???. 😛 It is funny how he has the same mannerisms and even his voice is close to the lead character?s. When we got home, Luke & I headed outside. He wanted to ride his 4-wheeler and Green Machine, which he did both. I cleaned out the garage (well, enough to finally get the Christmas stuff back up on to the storage shelving). It seems to get harder every year, as we have the same amount of space but a growing inventory of Xmas decorations! We also fixed one of his Ertl tractors from Christmas, put new windshield wipers on the Pacifica and installed new floor mats in it also. Then we worked on the front end of the Grand Caravan. It had a piece from the bottom of the bumper come loose. We reaffixed it by drilling a couple new holes and Luke had fun playing with the floor jack. He and Matt played catch and took turns on the Green Machine. Abby had Megan over to play and then spend the night with her. Ann again made popcorn and we watched Where the Wild Things Are. Well, they girls did; Ann and I did some research and purchased a new video camera. We were very disappointed with our current video camera this week, as you know. Just re-watch the previous video to remember what I mean. Although it has a great zoom, it is exhibiting the same issues that it did last year already. The 1-year warranty has expired (of course); so it would take another couple hundred to fix it again. We said pooh on it and decided it was time for an upgrade. We are done with the Sony?s, as the last two Hi-8 machines didn?t last longer than three years. So, we looked around and found what we wanted?then we found what we could afford and decided on a very nice hi def digital recorder. It is a Canon VIXIA HF200. We decided against the hard drive (which we figure will eventually go bad) and went for the flash card (a pair of 16 GB). We got a very good deal on it through Tiger Direct. On a friend?s request, we went to cNet to compare prices from 30 different vendors on the net and they still had the best price, so we were satisfied we had made the right choice. I am hoping it will be here in time for Matt?s meet on Thursday, so we?ll see?hopefully, I?ll have some nice videos to share up here next week! We?re pretty excited about it (well, at least I am?). 😉

On Sunday, we were active again. The kids played outside (as did the dogs) – and were so muddy when they came back in! – most of the day; it was beautiful and 50 again! They rode bikes, played ball and played out in the street, enjoying the spring-like day. Luke & I went over to Mom & Sandy’s house, where we hung a flat screen TV in Maryann’s bedroom and installed a new, wireless printer in Sandy’s den. Thanks for checking in with us and we?ll catch up with you next time. Until then, have a good one.
Later, Scheu

On Monday, Ann and Abby were back spending a few hours at the Dixon dance studio.

Here is a picture we took last week and the video we made out of it through the fine folks at JibJab. …I didn’t know Lukey was so spry! 🙂 Enjoy?

Now, it?s on to the Waybac feature?Leading off this time, we have Grandma Morrison from the 1930s; Mom O with her cousins in the 1940s; Mom B with Grandpaw Brown and a couple friends (Mom, who are these folks?) in October of ?62; Grandmaw Brown on Easter of ?62 in her dining room; Grandmaw Brown in nearly the same area in May of ?64; Keith with his cousins in the 4th of July parade in ?67; Keith later in the year, dressed up as a soldier; Grandpaw Brown?s new Pontiac (Mom, any stories about this boat?) and finally big Uncle Keith with Aunt Sharon at their home on Father?s Day of ?69.

Next, we have Keith & Ann, circa 1971 with a fish (this pic was in bad shape, so I’m glad I go to it before it was gone for good); Grandmaw & Grandpaw in February, 1973 in Tice, FL; Me with Lou Atha on my 8th birthday in our living room in Lafayette in ?76; Ann from about the same general time period (?77?) in her dance outfit; Mom & Dad B with Grandmaw & Grandpaw Brown out in front of the Lafayette courthouse on their wedding day in June of ?78; our new backyard (in progress) a month later in Temple City, CA (God, Mom & Dad really fixed that old place up!); and Katie from about the same time period (?79-ish).

Into the 80?s, we start off with one of Sandy at the WTRE booth at the fairgrounds in the early part of the decade; me in my UAW uniform after we won the league title and before we won the tourney title (we had a hell of a team that year!) in late July/early August of ?83; Dad B & Robby in front of the new Rockwood house in ?83 (that Olds 98 had a killer 425 V-8 under the hood ?
