Another week flew by us again. After starting off with warm temps early in the week, we cooled back down again later in the week, only to warm right back up this weekend?welcome to autumn in southern Indy. Weather aside; it was records of a different sort that were set in Greensburg this week? On Monday, it was not at all how I had envisioned my day going ? in my mind I would work a few hours, take off early and head down to Cincy to have a couple beers with Jamie before I attended my first Reds post season game at the NLDS at Great America Ballpark?but since the Reds were swept in games 1-3; there was no game 4 and therefore I got to work all day and even stayed a little late ? yippee. Ann was not feeling well today and did not go to work. It was 90 degrees that day! Abby had a pizza party at Washington Fields to turn in soccer uniforms and hang out one more time. However, Abby wasn?t able to stay due to being in trouble for not putting her clothes away, so she wasn?t allowed to stay after turning in her uniform. Luke & I went for a bike ride ? well Luke joined me for a lap and then petered out on me until I gave in to go through the woods. Then he suddenly had the energy to ride for another 20 minutes. Matt came home from football practice pretty worn out and didn?t move off the couch where he played Xbox with his best friend Brayton, up in Indy. That night, I watched a good Jets \/ Vikings game on MNF where Favre threw his 500th TD! On Tuesday, Lukey went to the dentist with Grandma where he received two fillings. He did really well and didn?t cry or even whimper. He was funny when he got home since his mouth was still puffy and numb. It was fun to hear him talk and he had the cutest smile (or half smile?). We played football out in the front yard for about a half hour before we were called in for dinner. The one maple tree and our burning bush look really good as they started to turn this week. I got him to pose for a few pictures with Ann’s bush, but he quickly grew tired of the photo shoot, so we headed off on a long bike ride. You?d think I would?ve learned my lesson as I had to repair yet another flat after going through the woods the night before. While Matt & Brayton were playing X box, he mentioned that Natalie just went to the hospital via ambulance for a heart issue. Ann finally got a hold of Mike and then eventually Nat. It turned out to be a false alarm, but gave us quite a scare. Matt & I were bummed when we watched the Tampa Bay Devil Rays get eliminated from the playoffs in the ALDS, but all was not lost; it was popcorn night. <\/p>\n

On Wednesday it finally rained! It really rained ? thunderstorms, hail and even a rumored tornado. Gracie went to New Hampshire with Chad and started her vacation early. Ann took Bu to dance. Matt went to a team dinner at one of the other parents? homes where they ate like crazy, played video games and even TP?ed the coaches? cars. That left Luke & I on our own so we went to Taco Bell and then came home and fixed my flat tire again. It was too wet for a ride, so we watched a couple of recorded shows, including his favorite ? Star Wars, The Clone Wars. On Thursday, the kids entered their fall break, meaning the end of the first nine week period already. This year is really flying! Matt stayed home and even went to practice in the morning. The other two went to Brandy?s house, the first time since summer ended. It turns out Brandy is moving at the end of the month, although not everyone is making the move unfortunately. Lola was acting weird that morning. She was crying and shaking after Abby brought her in for the day, just as we were getting ready to leave. When she didn?t get any better, Matt started to get worried. Eventually Mom O found out and it wasn?t long before she and Matt took her in to the vet to see what happened. However, he couldn?t find anything wrong with her (I said it was a mental thing). When we got home later that night, she was fine and hasn?t had any more issues since, so who knows? The kids were pretty wiped when we picked them up early that afternoon. We came home only for a moment or two and then headed out to Shriver Field to watch Matt and his freshman Pirates take on the Trojans of East Central in their season finale. Greensburg was shooting for what is considered to be the first undefeated season for the frosh squad. Although East Central is a perennial powerhouse and has given the Pirates great games the last two years, this time it was never even close. The Pirates jumped out to an early lead and scored nearly each time they touched the ball. The defense recorded its third shutout of the year in a route, 46-0. Matt started at defensive tackle and also played both offensive guards, tackle and on all special teams. He did some of his hardest hitting that night. He ended up being double teamed most of the night and ended up with only one solo tackle, although he did get his name called ? well sort of; it was on a false start call against the Trojans and it drew Matt off-sides. He promptly gave him a good shot and then came trotting off the field. As he did, the announcer stated, ?That?s Maryann Owens? grandson getting a little jumpy!??? \ud83d\ude42 The boys were so excited afterwards as they should be. What a great season they enjoyed. They were also named Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference (EIAC) Champs! They even dumped the Gatorade jug on the coaches. \ud83d\ude1b The gridders ended the season a perfect 8-0. After the game, Luke said he?d never run on a ?real??? football field before, so he and Abby ran out to the goal post and then ran to the 50 yard line. He thought it was a real thrill! To celebrate, we took Matt and the kids out to Wings & Rings (his choice). We not only enjoy the boneless wings & onion rings, but also like to play the trivia games. I won 2 of 3 from Matt that night. Matt is very good at the little crane games and the machine in there is no exception. Matt won Luke a basketball and won himself a Colts football. He just barely missed a teddy bear twice for Bu. <\/p>\n

On Friday, I remembered that Gigi had given me her data card from her camera and there were some real treasures on there! The kids were still off for fall break that day. Matt had football practice in the morning. The two younger kids went to open gym at Gymnastics and More with Brandy. That evening, Matt travelled with the varsity team just two minutes up Highway 3 to North Decatur High School. It was sooo cold that night and the stands were packed. The high school kids had to stand up, which meant that everyone behind them had to stand ? including us. We stood with Trevor & Jamie Hellmich. Luke snuggled up with Jamie in her blanket and eventually fell asleep. We really thought that this would be the best chance for the freshmen to get in the game, since it was assumed it would be a one-sided blowout. No one would?ve guessed what happened next. Instead of coming out and taking it to the Chargers, the Pirates had it brought right at them. They honestly looked so bad the first half that it looked like we had started the freshmen. We were down by 4 touchdowns going in to halftime. So, again; we thought well the freshmen might get in the game, right? Wouldn?t you know it; the Pirates came back in the 2nd half to pull within in a touchdown. Eventually, they would have a chance to get in the game with a minute to play and down by two scores, but the Greensburg coaching staff kept the starters in the game and kept trying to win the game. It ended 55-42 with an incredible 97 points scored!! Needless to say, Matt was freezing as he forgot to put on his under armor clothing. ?at least it didn?t rain ? although it felt like it could?ve snowed! The Pirates ended the regular season 4-5, headed to sectionals next weekend in Batesville.<\/p>\n

We were up early again on Saturday. Matt went in to football practice. Ann and Abby were back at the veterinarian?s office to get Molly?s rabies shots and to see what?s up with her paw (we thought maybe it was allergy-related where she had licked the hair off a spot). She did fine and there weren?t any allergy issues, which was good news. Luke & I loaded the truck and started to head over to Mom & Gigi?s house to mow for the first time in a month. The truck wasn?t willing to start and had to be jumped, which Luke loved helping me. \ud83d\ude1b We got about halfway done and had to get Matt. We came back and finished up before coming home and working in our yard. As I trimmed, mowed and ran the leaf blower, Matt trimmed the hedges, Luke picked up dog poo and Abby cleaned up the inside of the house. For their help, I treated the kids to Domino?s pizza. Ann was gone scrap booking at Mrs. B?s and when we finished lunch, Abby joined her. The boys all took naps during the second half of the Purdue \/ Minnesota game ? in fact when Matt fell asleep, he didn?t wake up until the next morning. It was good to see the Boilers enjoy another victory in the Big 10, as they topped the Golden Gophers 28-17 and went 2-0 in conference play. It was especially cool to see the Boilers wore throwback uniforms to honor the team Drew Brees led to the 2001 Rose Bowl. Unfortunately, they have a tall order next week as they?ll face the #1-ranked Ohio Buckeyes at ?The Big House.??? After the game, I treated Lukey to ice cream at Dairy Point for not getting his card flipped for a whole week. On the way home, we heard on the radio where Robby Hummel had blown his ACL and was out for the entire year?instantly erasing any national champion aspirations they might have had? That evening, the NASCAR race at Charlotte started out promising as Jeff began the day from the pole position. He ended up not so good, however; has he had an electrical issue that put him a lap down ? from which he never recovered. He finished 23rd, in fourth place, 156 points back. We were up and going early on Sunday as well. We planned to have the Smiths down for the day, but they were unable to make it. We did some chores around the house in the AM and then went on our annual pilgrimage to Armand?s Harper Valley farm \/ pumpkin patch. It was farther out this year than in the past and we noticed the pumpkins were not as large as in the past (we attributed that fact to the lack of rain this season). Matt was proud of his ?chile pepper pumpkin? and Luke thought his ?funky pumpky? was pretty cool. We came home and watched a couple of games go in to overtime, watch the Cowboys beat themselves again as they played Brett Favre?s Vikings. How in the world can a team have a top-5 ranked offense and defense, outgain the opposition again in both running and receiving yards and still lose? I?ll tell you how ? stupid penalties and turnovers. That will kill you every time. Until they figure out how to stop those two things, they aren?t going to win? Their record stands at a dismal 1-4. Then the Colts played the ?Skins late on Sunday Night Football. They are looking much better on offense. The defense finally started to step up and made a couple plays. They need to have more inspiration on defense before they will become a dominant team. They had flashes of brilliance but nothing sustained. I was really impressed with McNabb?s play. Lukey has been sounding like Froggy from the Little Rascals this weekend. He has been coughing and even wheezing. He slept several hours this afternoon\/evening and didn?t eat dinner again. He?s been a little whiny this week ? more than normal so we may end up taking him to the doctor in the morning if it continues.<\/p>\n
