The Walls Started Shaking, the Earth was Quaking…

Man; what a long week…  After a 2-day work week, a full five days seemed to last forever.  This week was all about Science Fair.  You know – that time of year that we knew was coming for months now, but we wait until the last possible moment to start and then try and cram everything in to a day & a half…what fun!!  This year, Matt did his project on the effects of an earthquake on a house built on a slab, verses one built within the earth.  It was actually pretty cool, as he borrowed a “shake table??? from his teacher.  His hypothesis and results were spot-on.  Matt somehow came out of it smelling a like a rose again…he’s good.  He got an “A??? on his board (with guidance from Ann) and report and is due to give his presentation next week.

December brings with it another family tradition – of counting down the days until Santa comes.  We have a reindeer calendar and there is a whole competition over who gets to move it to the next day.  Matt and Abby continued to attend practices for their respective sports and Ann did her usual great job of organizing everything.  Ann’s health continued to degrade early in the week but has thankfully gotten much better the past 48 hours.  Funny story; Abby and her class wrote a letter to Santa…and among other things required to be in it, they had to tell him one thing they regretted.  Sounds innocent enough…right?  Well, Abby (being brutally honest as always) wrote, “I am sorry for hitting my brother in the nuts when he won’t stop bothering me.???  Ann was so embarrassed when she found out!  However when I heard, I was hoping she would continue working on her boy-repelling skills throughout high school…  J  We wrapped up the work week on Friday; by having family night – enjoying a pizza, movie and several games of Crazy 8.

On Saturday, we were up early again.  Ann and Abby went over to Columbus for Ann’s annual “Cookies with Santa??? event.  Her work has put on the party every year since she started at SIOBGYN (9 years now!), inviting anyone who has delivered with the docs to come in, regardless of how long ago it was.  Abby helped to greet people as they entered while Ann was charged with taking Polaroid pictures.  Luke and I dropped off Matt at basketball practice before 9 and went over to catch up with the gals and talk to the big man.  Abby was totally shy with Santa this year (first time that’s happened), whereas Luke was very assertive, asking for a couple tractors and then said one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard him say.  When Santa asked if he wanted anything else, he stated, “My mom always forgets to get me baby shampoo…would you please bring me a bottle????  J  Ann, the doctors and everyone within earshot were rolling!!  Later, Santa told Ann that he had heard a lot of things through the years, but that was definitely a first.

Afterwards, the gals went to some open house for scrap-booking or Longer-basket-weaving or something…I don’t know; I just know the boys had a quiet, relaxing afternoon…  J  It snowed all day and much of the night as well.  We woke up today with the season’s first significant snowfall and it didn’t take Lukey long to get out and play in it!

I have only a few pictures left to share in the WAYBAC machine, but it should get us through the rest of the year.  We’ll see.  Over Christmas vacation, I’ll have to scan another big batch of old pictures for next year’s blog…  Anyhow, let’s get to it:

First up, we have a picture of Bu with Gracie and Grandma in her kitchen on Main St., circa 2002.

Next is a picture of yours truly taken as I came through the front door of our little townhouse in Columbus, approximately 1995 – after a long day as milieu manager of the RTC unit at Koala Hospital.

Here’s another old Christmas photo from the original Scheu house on Highland.  This is from about ’68 or so and features Granny, a very young cousin David and for the life of me I can’t remember the other lady’s name…I know I should…help Mom!!

Next up is the police blotter of when Matthew called 911 in 1998 (when he was two years old!).

…And we finish up this week’s entry with three more pictures from Aunt Sharon.  These are all of Grandmaw & Grandpaw Bryan at their house on the hill with Robby.  Does anybody know in which month or year these were taken?  Thanks for any help…
