Coming, comingWinter’s Yearn

We rode another roller coaster of weather this week as Ann & I battled over the houses thermostat – of course she won. We enjoyed temps in the mid-seventies through the week only to be slapped in the face with 30-degree temps this weekend. Matt focused on his studies this week but did make a guest appearance at the house. Abby had another busy week with school, working two jobs, dancing every night and still finding time for a social life. Luke kicked off his basketball schedule with three games this week. Abby, Ann & I fought off some sort of viral bug and I was able to get out and walk five days this week and enjoyed listening to an advanced copy of the new Metallica album all week. This is their best album in two decades! Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
It was back to work and school on Monday morning. Matt had breakfast with Memaw before heading back to U-Indy. Abbys meeting before school was cancelled so she ran Luke to school for us then had Pirateers practice after classes. I got out walking late and only got in about a mile before Ann & I left to come watch Lukes first basketball game vs. Rushville. He earned the start at center and played most of the game – which was great to see. He only had two points, making his only shot – but really hustled and was great on the boards. It was a close game, going all the way down to the last couple seconds when Lukes backup made the game-winner and the Pirates pulled out their first W of the year, 35-33. Luke stats: 1-2 FG, 0-2 FT for 2 points. 2 TO’s, 4 TO’s forced, 5 rebounds and 1 steal. Gma & Gigi were in attendance, which made it extra special. Although we have a good little team, they struggled that night – chalk it up to opening night jitters. Big thanks to Gigi for all the great pix! We came home afterward where Bu & Randall were doing homework until late. I was up late as I stayed to tape the 7B game as well and then uploaded both to Hudl for the coaching staff.

Tuesday had a cool morning but a gorgeous afternoon. Ann had a good dental appointment while I walked 3 miles after work. Abby had Pirateers practice before she and Randall joined Ann, Maryann and I at Lukes 2nd basketball game of the year at GJHS as the 7th grade Pirates played the rival North Decatur team. Luke again started at center and again had 2 points on his only shot of the game while being a monster down low. He again played much of the game but Coach sat the starters in the 2nd half so that the other kids could get some PT due to leading by 30. They went on to win easily, 40-16. Luke stats: 1-1 FG for 2 points. 2 TO’s, 2 TO’s forced, 2 rebounds and a block. Abby and Randall came to the game and then went out afterwards and later she stayed the night at the Hellmichs with Emma. I took Barney to work as Betty White was put into hibernation. However the van began leaking fluid badly when I got home and even worse at the ball game. Talk about a short hibernation – Dee & Jamie borrowed it to get materials from Columbus today. I think it is losing brake fluid from the rear breaks so Ill have to get new lines put on it real quick before I can drive it again.
Wednesday was Mom Os birthday. It was another cool morning but awesome afternoon. I walked over 3 miles after work. Luke had basketball practice. Abby worked at Dixon after school then Ann joined her for jazz class that night. I was pooped that evening and fell asleep early. Ann was not feeling well, coughing non-stop till she had a headache – poor thing. Thanks for sharing, Bu! Needless to say she didnt sleep well that night and ended up out on the couch, as did Abby.

It was a cold Thursday morning that we woke up to. We had to warm up the vehicles. Well Betty White doesnt exactly warm up; in fact I had to break out the blanket again for the ride in to work. It did warm up nicely to about 70 when I headed out for my walk. I got in about 2.5 miles before I headed back to Gburg to meet up with Ann at the junior high for Lukes third bball game of the week. Gma and Gigi were there with Phyllis & Dick as well as Abby & Randall to cheer on the 7th graders that night. Luke started at center against a very tough team. This was one of (or maybe our only??) loss of the year last year. Jennings County has one player that is very special and he was hard to contain. It didnt help that he injured one of our starters early in the game. Hopefully Brendan will hear quickly and be able to play in next weeks game. Luke did not score in this game but did foul out, I think. He played pretty aggressive against a front line that was much bigger than him. The boys kept it close through three quarters but they pulled away in the final period and the boys suffered their first loss of the year, 32-44. Luke stats: 1-1 FG for 2 points. 1 TO, 2 TO’s forced, 4 rebounds and 1 steal. Their record stands at 2-1 on the year. Abby had Pirateers practice then went on to Dixon for tap class that evening.

We ended our work week with an amazing Friday that saw temps soar to the mid-seventies. I walked a 5K after work but it was a rather blustery walk. I met up with Ann & Luke at home shortly before heading over to the high school to watch Abby and the Pirateers perform at halftime of the girls basketball game. I thought they looked great for their opening performance of the year. Luke met up with Tyler at the game and he came with us to dinner at ElRep and spent the night with us afterwards. Abby had Randall & Shay meet us there as well and we had a nice dinner and cocktail. Abby went out with the boys after dinner but showed up at our house shortly afterward to work out of our garage with my tools to try and change a headlight in Randalls car but they couldnt get it figured out (or didnt want to fool with it). Megan came over about that time and the four of them went out till late on a rainy night. That breezy rain brought through a nasty cold front that dropped the weather like 40 degrees to near freezing overnight.

Saturday was MUCH colder. I couldnt believe how cold it actually was – there was frost on the lawn and vehicles. Ann finally got her way as we turned on the heat in the house. Tyler went home and Luke had basketball practice about mid-morning. I did our weekly PM to our vehicles while it was snowing. After writing out bills, I picked up Luke and we ran a few errands. Abby Pirateers practice then worked at Wings & Rings. Ann scrapbooked at Mrs. Bs on their final day of business then napped all night. It was sad for her and regular crew. I watched an old favorite that I dug out – The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh while editing pictures all day. I had about 1000 pictures this week that I narrowed down to about 300 for this blog entry. Purdue football looked terrible after the 1st quarter on Senior Day. The PU basketball team came from behind to win though. Bu came home only for a few minutes then went out to be with Kama. When she came home, she went straight to bed. I dont think we saw her for more than 60 seconds total today. Luke played airsoft guns in the back yard, setting up his target and then spent the night at the Hellmichs with Mitch.??? I watched DVRed shows and kept warm under the eagle blanket on the couch all evening. Here are random pictures from this week.

We finally enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday morning before getting up and doing our weekly household chores. It was one of those mornings where nothing went right – Molly got out of the backyard a couple times so I had to mend the fence in three areas. Anns car began spewing antifreeze when I ran to the bank so I had to clean it up, mix up some coolant, re-secure her hose and fill it back up. Im not sure why that clamp keeps coming loose – its brand new. The dryer wouldnt start so I had to reset it twice and the washers pump stalled out again so I had to reset it as well. After we got that worked out, things went much better the rest of the day. We celebrated Maryanns birthday again this year by having the family over for spaghetti and spasagnia, salad, garlic bread, cake and two pies! We had Mom, Gigi, Dee, Jamie and Randall join us this year. Even Matt made it home for a few hours! We ate and ate, sang Happy Bday and opened presents. She said it was her best birthday ever. 🙂 Lunch was delicious and I dont think anyone even had dinner that night. Abby & Randall headed to the family room where they took naps and then both went in to work at BWR until late. Meanwhile, the boys watched both the Colts and Cowboys win. It is the 1st time in franchise history that Dallas has won 9 games in a row! And the Colts managed to pull to .500 with their win at home today. Adam Vinatieri missed a field goal today, ending his streak at 44, setting a new NFL record! Matt had to head back early to school to do some volunteer work or something for his major. Ann napped all afternoon and all night as well while I watched football, MMA and the final NASCAR race of the year (and Columbus own Tony Stewarts final race of his career). Jimmy Johnson won his 7th championship, tying him with the legends of the sport – Petty & Earnhardt. It was a nice, relaxing afternoon and evening and a perfect way to end a long week. We have lots of new social media pictures to share this week: Matts visit last weekend; Abby and friends; Scheu cousins; congrats to my cousin Jasons son Tyson on signing his letter of intent to be the Boilers catcher next year; Matt got a parking ticket; Cowboys are on fire this year; Romo was very classy at his press conference; Metallica released their new album and announced they will tour next year; Simpsons marathon on Thanksgiving!; congrats to Nick and Connor on their engagement; McGregors big win; some memes; Cohen & Russell pictures and some pictures of the lovely skies here in south-central Indiana this week.
