Well,Were Movin on Up!

Another exciting week has sped by us again. The weather continued to stay cool and cloudy for the majority of the week. The threat of rain was present each day and for yet another week, the kids werent able to fully enjoy their dissipating summer vacation. On Monday, I was officially offered the role of Environment of Care (EOC) Manager. With this role comes the responsibilities of the safety officer, keeping within compliance for surveys from Joint Commission, CMS (the feds) and CCI (the state); as well as others, membership in senior management and it also includes supervision over the maintenance, housekeeping, and dietary departments. As I was finding out was in store for my future at work, Matt continued to work on the shed back at home. He put a second coat of base paint, 2 coats of trim and began formulating a plan to put a large gold, P??? on the side of the shed. 🙂 Between his work on the shed especially on Tuesday – and mowing the lawn this summer, he has now officially worked off his phone bill! My cousin David got back with me on Tuesday night as well to say that he had been in communication with Joie Chitwood and Robby Gordon’s team, and unfortunately all of their passes were already spoken forbut I thank David for every minute that he took out of his time to try and make something special for Ann & I. Thanks man; maybe next year we can go together with our ladies and make a weekend out of it!?!

On Wednesday, it rained all day and night. I was so mad because on Monday, I noticed that the water in the pool was really low on the skimmer. So, I added water to it while I went over and mowed at Mom & Sandys. Now that it rained all day, it is over flowing Ann bought a digital photo frame for me to give to Dennis, so I spent the entire evening adding pictures from back-up cds I brought home from work. I ended up with over 800 pictures on it. On Thursday, Abby rode over to Columbus with Ann & I. I dropped the gals off at Ann’s friend, Tonya’s, house. They took their daughters (Bu & Maddie) over to stay with their friends Macey, McKenzie and Haley – whose mom works with Ann. After work, Ann, Deanna, Tonya and another friend took the girls (Abby, Grace and Maddie) over for a Hannah Montana dance class, called Hoedown Throwdown. While the girls were learning their dance at Beths Dancenter, Ann and the ladies went next door to the Garage Pub! 😛 That night, Uncle Keith, Aunt Rosie and Megan drove down from LaPorte, where they had been visiting with their friends. They stayed at Grandma and Gigis home.

On Friday, Ann stayed home with Matt so they could run a couple errands. First, they ran up to Best Buy in Greenwood to exchange Matts iPod Touch, which had stopped responding. They were really cool with the exchange and Matt was thrilled to have his baby back! He spent the rest of the day and evening getting it restored and reloaded from his back up wed created a couple months ago. Next, they were off to Columbus for Matts annual physical for school sports. He saw Dr. Fangman at Columbus Peds – his pediatrician since he was born. Dr. Fangman gave him a glowing review and even the nurse remarked that his muscular build was solid; so solid that, I wasnt sure if your shots were going to go in!??? 🙂 He had to have several routine shots at the visit, but he was a big boy… That night, I was late getting homeas it was my friend and now former boss Dennis last day. 🙁 We took him out to Applebees for lunch and then had 6 hours of meetings (budget meetings werent as bad as what I had heard they were going to be) and then tried to cram as much information in to the last hour or so that we had for orientation. Unfortunately, its going to be a trial by fire. I am still a little apprehensive, but Dennis has everything in place and has done a great job of keeping up with everything, which should help with my transition. I have accepted the EOC Manager position as a 60 day interim. If I dont like the job or if Im not able to keep up with it, I can go back to my former role; but I am hopeful that it should be pretty interesting and a new challenge which is something Ive probably needed for a couple years. That night, we had a party out at our house, with Anns whole family in attendance. I finally got home around 6, grabbed a cold beer and came in to join the fun. We were celebrating Gigis 52nd birthday. Ann had done us up again with all our favorite foods. We had cheeseburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, MaryAnns homemade macaroni and cheese, cheesy corn dip, spinach & artichoke dip and a new brand of potato chips weve been enjoying lately, called Kettle. We were able to get an Owens grandchild photo before we all sang happy birthday to Gigi, opened presents and had MaryAnns homemade cake!! She made both a delicious angel food cake for the diabetics among us and a yummy chocolate brownie with a deadly chocolate fudge toppingIm still drooling just thinking about how good it was 😛 Our rendition of the birthday song was not the bestso although I present it to you below, I also forewarn you as well…

It was great to talk with Keith and Rosie. Megan is so big and funny. and smartMAN is she smart. Shes already able to do addition in her head. She is destined for big things! We had a great time until tensions ran high… That night, we went for a long bike ride, stopping at Brandys house to chat. We picked up Oakley and Jessalin then we ran one lap around the neighborhood with all the kids and then dropped them off before finally heading home around dusk.

On Saturday, we ran to Columbus for haircuts on all the boys with Jamie at Innovations. We just barely beat the downpour and it actually stopped raining by the time we left. She did a really good job with all the boys hair. We have a before and after shot, just for fun. We had to wait a few hours before it was dry and warm enough to get outside. One of Abbys BFFs, Megan, came over to spend the night. We all went out for another bike ride before Matt & I did the yard work and all the kids jumped in a cold pool (78). Ann made a big pot of chicken & noodles with mashed potatoes. This was Matts favorite childhood mealI can still hear him asking Grandma Owens for noo-nals & tadies.??? 😛 Later that evening, Ann made a huge bowl of popcorn with Hershey bars that satisfied all of our snacking needs as we watched the Busch-league race from OReilly Raceway Park in Indy.

Sunday was, of course, race day as the NASCAR boys came to Indy to race at the Brickyard. Ann made biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Abby & Megan were active all day riding bikes, swimming, playing on the computers and tearing up the house! 😛 Meanwhile, Matt & I camped out all day and watched the coverage of the race. It is always cool to wake up on race day and watch all the coverage from the track (whether it’s the 500 or the 400). I hate that it is a 2:30 start; we were ready at 1! But the race did not disappoint…although if Gordon wasn’t going to win #5, I wish Mark Martin would’ve won…
