I don’t Need a Vaccine…I just gotta Make My Quarantine

It was an interesting week for us, here at the Scheu abode. I started off the week, sick with the ‘Rona but quickly got better with each passing day as the week wore on, quarantining at home. Thankfully, I am fully vaccinated with the booster and the rest of the fam is also vaccinated. That meant that although we were sick, we quickly recovered and none of us wound up in the hospital. I worked from home each day this week and was quite productive but missed several things due to the quarantine. Of course, I shared my love with Ms. Ann, who felt cruddy most of the week as well. Although she never got tested, we knew what she had. She continued to heal from her surgery this week and also had to cancel a couple things this week due to quarantining with me. Matt tested positive for the virus late in the week, but not before he had a full week of work and coaching. He also led his team to their first two wrestling meets. Abby, who had been in close contact with me over the last weekend, felt like crap at the start of the week but got better as we neared the weekend. She also missed everything this week due to quarantining with us at home. Luke was the only one to avoid the funk. And he worked hard to avoid us, spending the majority of the week out of the house. When he was here, he pretty much stayed in his room. He had a busy week: he went to school, worked a little, lifted weights every day, ran around with his buddies constantly and attended the Winter Formal. We avoided Mom & Sandy this week to keep them well. They did get to see Luke a couple times. It was championship time for football with the final college game and the playoffs began in the NFL. It finally felt like winter around here with temps below freezing and we finally got a little snow. Granted, it’s all gone as I write this on Sunday night…but it’s a start. We don’t choose to live in Indiana because we hate the white stuff! I won’t lie – it was kind of cool hanging out with the gals this week at home. But I will be thankful to get back to a normal schedule next week… Hello again and welcome to the newest edition of the Scheu Family Blog.

I did not sleep well overnight and wound up coming out to the couch sometime around 430/5 am. That combo of nasal congestion and c-pap just don’t mesh well at all. I flipped on DVR’d shows and napped on and off for a few hours. Abby eventually got up and went into work. She didn’t get too far before shwas calling me, asking for advice. She felt like crap and didn’t want to expose her co-workers. She wound up coming back home and went to bed. She stayed in there, asleep, until after dark that night and only came out long enough to eat dinner. Luke got up late because I wasn’t there to wake him up. He still managed to make it in on time. After school, he went over to visit Gma & Gigi for a while and play with their new puppy, Ms. Olive. Afterward, he went to the Y to lift weights for a couple hours. It was a cold start and didn’t really warm much all day. I wouldn’t know firsthand, as I got done snoozing on the couch and went to work in the family room. I didn’t even shower that day. I kept busy and only stopped a couple times to eat and use the restroom. I started to get tired in the afternoon and wound up falling asleep around 3 or so and decided to go flop on the couch and take a nap. I left a message for my doctor, regarding this sinus infection and he was kind enough to call me in a Z-pack to see if we can rule-out something bacterial. So, that evening I went outside for the first time that day and picked up a few things at CVS, including a couple bottles of spirits that they had on sale! ???? I went across the street and got dinner for the four of us from A&W. The owners of the root beer stand decided to stay open this winter for the first time. I made sure to wear a mask at both places, just in case… After dinner, we watched Ann’s boyfriend – Shamar Moore – on SWAT and then turned on the college football championship game. I was supposed to be with the guys at the Sunken Boat Bar but decided against it so that I didn’t get any of those old guys sick. Poor Ann was cold all day and developed a persistent cough. Thankfully, my symptoms began weaning that evening as I watched the final college football game of the season. It was a close, defensive battle through three quarters when the offenses finally caught up and began scoring points. And in the end, the title went to the Bulldogs as Georgia beat Alabama 33-18. What a game! I was hoping for the guys to send me the “salute??? picture, but it never came… Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.

I slept MUCH better overnight and woke up in a much better spot than the previous three or four days. I got up and showered, etc. to do a dry run-through to see how I would feel. I decided to go ahead and work from home that day. As the morning went on, I progressively felt better. By the afternoon, I was much better and by the time the sun was setting, I felt almost normal again. I’m not sure if it was the Dayquil or the Z-pack, but something really did the job for me. I worked from home and stayed busy working on my Safety Committee report as well as a new IT project. I considered just working from home the rest of the week, but Ann quickly put the kibosh on that notion, stating that I WAS going to work tomorrow. I said ya, as long as I can pass a Covid test! Abby slept in and stayed in bed all day, resting and feeling like dog doo. She also seemed to get better that evening, as she finally came out of her room and began interacting with us again. Luke got up and went to school. Afterward, he worked out at school then came home to shower and went right back to the high school. It was Senior Night for the wrestling team. We really wanted to go as well but felt it was best to stay away and not go out in public with us being sick. These last few days have really sucked because of the things we’ve missed. ? Ann wasn’t feeling very well that day. She had a persistent cough and couldn’t get warm. The day went really fast and before we knew it, we had all missed lunch and were hungry. With the girls not feeling well, we decided to get some takeout from Tarouya. We watched some DVR’d shows that evening as I edited pictures and videos for this week’s blog entry. We heard from Matt that night. We were hoping to be up north for opening night at Z-West for the 2022 wresting season. Unfortunately, Covid ruined that too. The boys came out ready to go for Coach Scheu as they defeated Hamilton Southeastern 60-48! 1-0 has a good ring to it…

I was up, showered & dressed early and out the door to work on Wednesday morning. I was excited to finally get back to the office and see all my work friends. It wasn’t too cold and I actually got to crack the window for the last half of the commute. All I had to do that morning was pass the Covid test and I could return to work. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. In fact, it only took about 20 seconds and it was instantly obvious that I wasn’t staying at work. So, I notified everyone and will try it again on Monday. Abby wasn’t feeling well still and did not go to work that morning. Ann also enjoyed sleeping in, continuing her time away to heal, but now is obviously concerned with the very likely possibility of Covid – especially given the fact that she is sharing the classic symptoms with Abs – fever, cough, congestion, headache, body aches. In fact, we had to cancel our haircuts that day as well as her follow-up doctor visit due to having to quarantine. To prepare for our continued quarantine, I ran to Walmart to get supplies (masked and socially distanced, of course) real quick and swing through Dunkin. I resumed my work from home. We had to shut down the facility due to more positive cases of the virus – both with staff and residents. We even had to halt admissions as well, unfortunately. Jim held our morning meeting virtually on Zoom as we initiated our emergency Covid protocol again. This will be our third time in three years now. Man, this virus is really getting old… I managed to pickup all my mail while I was at work on my way out and spend the rest of the day working through everything and processing all the paperwork. Luke got up and went to school. He worked out with his teacher at the school then came home and went to the Y to workout a couple times. He was pretty exhausted when he finally came home to eat dinner. Mom & Sandy were kind enough to send us Pizza King for dinner – a HUGE pie that will last the four of us a few days! Thanks guys!! Abs and I enjoyed a soothing cocktail (Moonlight Buck) and shot (Honey Jack w/ lemon) to help our scratchy throats and help us sleep that evening. Ann & I took it easy that night, watching several DVR’d shows and chilling with the dogs. I could really get used to this whole working at home thing! We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

On Thursday, I took advantage of the fact that Ann and Abby were not going to work and that I was working from home by sleeping in a about a half hour later than normal – it was nice. I rolled out of bed, skipped the shower and just brushed my teeth, combed my hair, put on deodorant and called it good! I still made it “to work??? by 7 am – an hour early! ???? Luke got up on his own and went into school. He worked out at the school afterward then went to Batesville to watch the boys basketball game from the cheer block. He said the Pirates came from behind to beat the rival Bulldogs. Paul had asked me to come over to watch Conner (and earlier in the week go watch Cayden play at our junior high school…but being on quarantine, I had to miss that as well. I’m so tired of missing things due to this stupid Covid virus… Ann & Abby took it easy, resting and sleeping much of the day. I worked from my desk in the family room for half a day, but it goes so fast! I’m still amazed at just how efficient I can be when I don’t have all the distractions. I did have to stop working for a little bit to wash the dogs. It got much warmer today, which is great and all…but that also meant that the backyard thawed and the dogs ran and jumped in the mud on and off throughout the day as they played with their dog friends. I knocked off as the sun was setting and moved back to the couch. Ann made us paninis for dinner. Abby joined us at the dinner table and then retreated back to her room to video chat with Will for a while, play games with her brother and go back to bed. Matt had another big night. After his big win on Tuesday night, they followed it up by squashing Tri-West Middle School by 80 points – 96-16! Wow!! We had another quiet night of quarantine, watching the final episode of the Colt’s Hard Knocks (they planned to keep filming them through the playoffs, had they won) on HBO, flipped over to Disney + to watch the next two episodes of the Book of Boba Fett series, the two new Law & Order shows on the DVR and then turned-on Chicago PD (Ann’s new favorite show – well that at Chicago Fire) on Ion TV. I worked on the blog for a little while before heading on to bed.

I slept in a shade on Friday morning again, taking advantage of the fact that the girls were off work, Luke had a late day and I was working from home. I slowly got up to shower and still started working before 7 again. The girls seemed a little better but both still had nasty coughs. They both slept most of the day, not feeling the best. I was able to stay focused and knocked out my quarterly report. I’ve never had it done this early in the year. I joked with Jim that I need to work from home more often! The only thing left, reporting-wise, is my annual report – which I hope to knock-out next week. Jim shuffled the deck of his management team a little but moving the MHTs under Justin. Because of this shift, he is requesting that Justin move out of the penthouse with me – down to an office where the staff will have easier access to their management hierarchy. I guess I understand, but I still don’t like it. ? Luke went to school then came home to get cleaned-up and ready for his Winter Formal. Later, Brayden came over and with the boys looking snazzy, we got a few photos. It was funny how often their plans changed that night. Oakley came over later and the plan was originally to go out to his house for photos. They were taking three young ladies from Batesville to the dance. And so they had to wait for them to drive over here. They wound up being about an hour late. The plans changed at least three times and maybe a even a fourth time as well – LOL. Although we were unprepared, they wound up doing pictures in our living room. Hats off to the gals for the last-minute housekeeping they had to quickly undertake! Gma & Gigi came over to see the kids. They stayed out in the car just to take extra precautions. Due to the plans changing again, they only got to see Luke & Brayden before they gave up and just went on back home. The girls finally got over to our abode really late, took some quick pictures, then were off to the next house. I’m not even sure where all they wound up going but eventually made over to the dance. Luke said it was pretty lame and so they didn’t stay long. Instead, they went to Wings & Rings for dinner, got changed and then they all went out to Oakley’s house to spend the night. Meanwhile, Abby & I decided to have game night. We thought Ann would join us but she wasn’t feeling up to it. Abs and I played the best-of-seven Sorry series. She won 4-2. But we had fun listening to country music, enjoyed a few cocktails (regular margarita and jalapeno margarita – both with Patron & Cointreau) as well as an amaretto sour (with Disaronno) before calling it quits. I tried to stay up and watch a couple shows on TV with Ann. But I no sooner sat down and pushed play before I woke up with a sore neck, dry throat and the show was over. So, I gave it up and called it a night. Here are pictures of recent additions to my Hot Wheels collection.

We all enjoyed sleeping in on Saturday morning. We were thrilled to find we had a dusting of snow on the ground! It was obviously less than quarter inch, but Delilah loved it just the same. She ran and made the snow fly! I remember Molly loved the snow as well. Lola, on the other hand, could care less. She went out, did her business, and was ready to be back inside! I did a few things around the house then sat down to work on the blog (with Lola at my side to keep me warm) and watched the new episode of Ancient Aliens we taped last night. The girls eventually got up and joined me on a lazy Saturday morning. Luke came home sometime in the late morning. He wasn’t very talkative but instead went to his room and fell asleep. He got up about midafternoon to go help his buddies move. Ann & I chilled with the dogs, trying to keep warm on another day that never got above the freezing mark. We watched some DVR’d shows, a few episodes of the new season of Lost in Space on Netflix, the scary movie Candyman and then flipped on the NFL playoffs. I checked in my newest Hot Wheels finds. They’ve been hard to come by recently. Walmarts and Targets in our area have zero of the basic line and not many of the other lines. I picked up a couple cars on eBay as well as a couple new five packs at Walmart earlier this week. I picked up a several new additions to my music collection and wrote out this week’s html code for the blog while Annie slept away her day and Bu stayed in her room. We heard from Matt that afternoon, but it wasn’t good news. He has been feeling cruddy so he got tested for the Covid and like his papa, he too was positive. He sounded fairly upbeat but I’m not sure what it means for his team. After a great opening week, I hope the program doesn’t have to quarantine for two weeks now… That makes us 5 for 5 for this virus now. Luke was the first (months ago) and now Matt & I. The girls had all the symptoms this week but were never tested. Speaking of the gals; they were feeling a little antsy and needed to blow the stink off to celebrate them completing their quarantine. I think we are all intending to return to work on Monday at this point. They went out driving in the sub-freezing temps and wound up going through the Arby’s drive through for dinner. After watching the Bengals win a playoff game for the first time in over 3 decades, we watched the Bills destroy the Pats in the bitter cold of Buffalo. It made us glad we were watching it on TV, under the blankets with the dogs! We wound down the night watching some DVR’d shows and some more SVU on Ion before we called it a day. Luke came home sore from doing all that moving all evening. He showered and went out to Oakley’s house to spend the night again.

We enjoyed sleeping in again on Sunday morning until Lola was up and scratching at our door to be let outside. I got up and did a few chores around the house and watched a couple classic TV shows – a 50-year-old Star Trek and a 10-year-old SNL that had taped overnight. I watched the new SNL as well and was pleasantly surprised with the musical guest I had never heard of before called the Bleachers. They sort of reminded me of Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band. I got caught up on my DVR’d shows the rest of the morning until the NFL playoff games started in the Wild Card Weekend. Brady & the Bucs blew-out the Eagles while I did laundry. With everyone home this week, it was the lowest amount we’ve had in decades – only one load! ???? Ann and I napped on and off throughout the day and took it easy, relaxing one last day before we return to the office in the morning. Luke came home in the late morning and immediately retreated to his room. I think we only saw him twice the rest of the day – once when he came out to get something to eat and went right back to his room and the second when he left to go workout at the YMCA. The 2nd of 3 games that day had my Cowboys hosting the Niners. Dallas came out flat, quickly found themselves behind and were down by 9 at the half. The defense played good enough to win, but the offensive line continued to struggle. And with it, the offense sputtered. I don’t know why they don’t try to run the ball more… Ann talked with Matt, who said he was feeling better. I assume he will have to quarantine for most of this coming week. I’m not sure what the school policy is in Zionsville. In addition, I hope that he didn’t get his whole team sick! I used our new shredder as Ann made spicy, cheesy Fireworks popcorn for dinner. As the Cowboys game went down to the wire, I had a good group test going with Matt & Jamie. The 4th quarter was a rollercoaster ride and Big D had a chance to win it at the end. With only 15 seconds left, Dak decided to run the ball. But with no timeouts left, he couldn’t get the team lined up in time and time expired. I love that guy, but his decision-making ability was not the best – and one of the reasons they lost. Other issues were the O line not being to pass protect, the coordinator not finding a way to run the ball and all the penalties on the team. They had something like fifteen penalties. When you do that, you don’t deserve to win a playoff game. And that is what happened as the Cowboys lost 6 and are one-and-done again this year. We will likely lose both players and coaches in the offseason. It’s really too bad they couldn’t find a way to win this year… With the Cowboys out, no Colts and no Bears, I really don’t have a horse in the playoff race this year. I guess I’ll root for the Bengals now? Damn, that statement just leaves a bad taste in my mouth… Dejected from the Dallas loss, my heart really wasn’t in the night game where the Chiefs hosted the Steelers. I finished up the blog and hoped for a close game – maybe OT… Abs and I wound down the week with a couple of gin & tonic cocktails (with our new Hendrick’s Lunar) to help me drown my sorrows. It was a nice way to wrap up the weekend and a relaxing way to wind down yet another week before we start it all over again in the morning…

Next up is our Waybac segment which continues to feature photos from Deanna’s digital camera in 2006. We lead off in March again this week, seeing another handful of fun pix from the girls’ Chicago trip; in May we have a few shots of the Memorial Day party at our house; July has a bunch of pictures from the County Fair; in September we see some good pix of Abby’s birthday in our living room (including a surprise pic of Mom!); we have a few pix of Thanxmas in November and in December we pictures of Christmas Eve with Gma & Gigi, the girls enjoying a spa day and finally there’s Matt at school on the day of Santa’s visit.

And we wrap up with our video segment, which features one new home movie this week as well as a ton from around the internet.

And that does it for this week’s episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one and stay safe out there because the bug is everywhere right now! We miss ya, Mom…
Later, Scheu
