During the month of June, we were inundated with smoke every day. Canadian forest fires were so bad that we’ve had hazy skies and poor air quality alerts all month – a new thing for me. I can’t remember ever hearing about poor air quality before this month. It was wild to think of Indianapolis being the 2nd worst air quality in the entire world – only behind Dubai! Matt & Taylor enjoyed a mini vacation out west as they continued working in their jobs and hanging out with their family of kitties. Abby continued working at Sly Fox and still likes her co-workers! She had some car issues that caused her to start looking for a replacement for Tonya. She enjoyed spending time with all her different friends – and even prepared to welcome a couple of her Norwegian buddies. And by the end of the month there was a new spark in her life as well… AND she may be the next Coach Scheu in the family! Luke was the busiest of all the kids. Between working three different jobs, lifting at the YMCA, spending time with Samantha and his friends and now accepting a coaching position (we have yet another Coach Scheu!), we hardly even see him some days. Ann & I are starting to enjoy having adult children. We both have had some health stuff, including my heart getting lots of unwanted attention all month long. I played 300 (well 297) holes of disc golf in June and felt like it should’ve been a lot more, but the old body and life / work circumstances sometimes get in the way, ya know? I did manage to log about 32 miles of walking, despite the extreme weather and life. Mom & Sandy are doing well. Gigi is looking great, sticking to her diet and working out at the Y every day. We enjoy getting together for “doggie dates” at each other’s houses. The weather got hotter and hotter as the month progressed. Between grad parties, Father’s Day and all the golfing…it was a good month – despite the medical issues… So, let’s get to it, welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
The first week of June was a weird one. Ann & I had fast and busy weeks at work. We won the Donut Drop on Y106 radio again at work – this time it was my new housekeeper that shared goodies with us. That week’s card night ended outdoors with cocktails and cigars. We attended Sam’s graduation at Batesville High then went back to her house for a nice, homemade/pitch-in lunch. We enjoyed a long Memorial Day weekend. Abby went to the 500 with Bakr and stayed in the Snake Pit the whole time, hanging out with “Security.” She stayed at Bakr’s place then Luke & Sam joined them on Monday to go kayaking all day on Lake Monroe. Ann & I listened to the Indy 500 race on the radio and planted shrubs/grass seed out back. We wound up replacing three of the shrubs along the back fence row. We cleaned the back porch, put out the new rug and cooked steaks & shrimp on the grill! I wasn’t able to play much golf in Columbus during the week due to being so busy but I did manage to play a few evenings in Greensburg and then played over in Rushville, which was pretty cool. Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.

The second week of June saw me do that cardioversion on Monday. Ya know, I hadn’t noticed many issues but that whole week I struggled with my ticker going in and out of a-fib. After golfing on Tuesday, I had to hold off the rest of the week until finally playing with Bu & Seth in Batesville over the weekend due to not feeling well. We enjoyed tequila 3 days in a row: Thursday evening, Abs & I played cards while sipping on a couple cocktails called Vanilla Margaritas (with Cabo reposado & 43 liqueur); on Friday, Ann & Seth joined Abs & I for cards and Tequila Mockingbird cocktails (with Cabo blanco & watermelon, jalapenos & agave – yum!), and then El Rep’s house margaritas on Saturday night. 😊 Luke & Alex had 3 interviews for 7th grade football coaches…and they got it! We got up early on Saturday morning so could I take Abs & Seth to Batesville to play 18 holes of disc golf and run past their big liquor store. Samantha had her grad party when we got home. It was held at her aunt & uncle’s house, which was way out in the boonies. It was really nice, but we ended up leaving before the meal was served due to a delay with the food (brought back memories of Luke’s grad party!). We were out there for a couple hours and enjoyed celebrating little Sammi. When we left, we wound up taking Mom & Sandy & Seth & Abby to dinner at El Reparo to thank them for taking care of our dogs while we were on vacation in Florida last month.
The third week brought back lots of memories of Mom. Not only did we finish up with Week 19 but there was also Mom & Dad’s anniversary (#45) & Mom’s bday (#74) as well. Abby had Jerry look at Tonya and came up with a laundry list of items needed. She decided to delay the repair and began driving Seth’s b/u car until she decides if she was going to repair or replace her car. That was really cool of him. I have to say I kind of like that kid… She worked all week at Sly Fox, spent the night in Franklin to see her friends one night and broke up with Bakr. Luke began coaching at the junior high a couple nights that week with Alex. He house/dog-sat for the Bests all week as well, so we didn’t see much of him. He also put in a bid to do a big job at one of Bryan’s businesses while keeping up with his yards, helping Gma and working for Chad. What a busy boy! Matt went to Las Vegas with his fiancé (I love saying that! 😊) for a long weekend. We thought maybe they might elope while out there but they didn’t (as far as we know!). Ann met with the CDC for a new project and things went very well! She missed her scrap weekend again this month but did get to at least see Shawna for a little bit one day. I had to wear a heart monitor for a month to try and find out if I’m still having any a-fib issues. Early on, after the procedure, I did have a couple minor issues. I took a little time off from playing golf to let my body rest and recover before slowly getting back on the course. I started slow, playing 9 holes at a time and forcing myself to slow down and take my time and stay hydrated. By the middle of the month, I was back. After being short of breath and having weird pains in my neck, chest, head and abdomen, I worked my way back up to being able to play 18 holes and sweat and hustle again without too many issues. Although we were bummed to finish up binge-watching Firefly Lane, You, and Outer Banks; we were happy to begin watching new seasons of Outlander, Dead City, Skinwalker Ranch and Jack Ryan.

I enjoyed a good Father’s Day weekend. Card Night started with Ann & I playing Abby & Seth in some euchre and Aggravation. Later, we had a fire and moved the games outdoors, eventually ending at 3 am. On Saturday, Abby got her Switch back from Bakr and went to see a friend while Luke went to Sam’s house for the day and I went to Columbus, leaving Ann to enjoy a quiet “Nap Day” with the dogs. I met up with Bryan & Angie and Rick & Lynn at Ceraland, where they were “glamping.” The five of us played the disc golf course. It was all their first time playing – ever. It was my first time playing that course, so it was quite a learning experience. We played the white tees (the closer ones) but still had holes that were over 500/600 feet! I ended the front 9 at 1 under par. However, it took us over two hours to get to that point and we had to quit to go start dinner. We wound up playing some euchre, having a cocktail or two and enjoyed a cigar around the fire, sitting by the lake and listening to the live band playing just across the water. It was all pretty cool. I didn’t realize there was a whole sub-culture in places like that…it was really cool. As dusk set in, I had to go. I missed the big thing uptown where the town had a dozen or so food trucks around the square with all the bars open. Seth & Abs went up there for a while but by the time I got back into town, it was over and they were home. We played some cards and later Luke & Sam joined us. Luke & I eventually made it out back for cigars and later, made a run to Taco Bell. We watched Rick & Morty and ate our 4th meal and again saw 3 am! We slept in on Sunday morning before Annie got up to start cooking and I got up to do our weekly household chores. She made homemade mac & cheese, homemade potato salad, corn dip, cheesy broccoli and then we grabbed a beer and went out back to grill Hermanaki chicken breasts and pork roasts. Matt joined Ann & I, Abby, and Luke & Sam for a nice lunch. They got me a new bottle of rye called Old Elk. I’m looking forward to busting that out at our next Poker Night with my buddies! It was nice to have the family together again – all was right in the world…even if was just for a couple hours. And I have to say that it was pretty cool to look around the table and see 4 Coach Scheus (potentially) – of course, I coached the kids for years, and now Matt coaches junior high wresting at Zionsville West, Luke is now coaching 7th grade football for GJHS and Abby has been asked to throw her hat into the ring for assistant Pirateers coach with Kuyhlia! How cool is that??
The end of the month went faster than we liked. It began with it being all about planning and celebrating Luke’s 20th birthday. We took him out for lunch in Columbus on his big day. He wanted a NY Strip steak from Amazing Joes, so we were happy to oblige! We had a bunch of his friends over later that night to play cornhole, help our neighbors listen to some loud music, and have a good time celebrating our baby. His closest buddies came over and we even had a surprise visit from Brayden’s dad, who lives just a few houses down from us. That evening, Abby and Seth ended up taking their friendship up a notch. The next morning, I took Luke, Oak & Brayden out for the breakfast bar buffet at Frisch’s Big Boy. Afterward, Luke & I drove to Columbus to play in a tourney at Donner Park. It was called the One Disc Dare. We both got a new disc but the catch was that you could only use that one disc for the whole thing. They had temporary baskets set up and used a point system, going for aces. It was hard to use the new discs and Luke & I struggled during the first round but got better as we went along. I won’t say what Luke had but I wound up with 55 points, 10 off the top spot. It was pretty fun, but we had to rush. We hurried back to the house for the family party. Ann had Matt & Taylor, Abby & Seth, Samantha, Mom & Sandy and Deanna & Jamie over to help us celebrate. We sang a really bad version of the Birthday Song and enjoyed an Oreo ice cream cake from DQ. Later, Ann made him his big birthday dinner with enchiladas, Taquitos, chicken nuggets, corn dip and more that I can’t remember. I played disc golf as much as I could the last couple weeks as my heart stopped all its nonsense that had plagued me in the early part of the month and was working properly again. As I kept playing, I got better and better. It all culminated shortly before the end of the month when I set the Greensburg course record on the front 9 by throwing an 18 – aided by hole-in-one on #4 again. I bettered the previous record (also held by yours truly) by two strokes. It was my first “ace” of the year and was a great way to wrap up an eventful month… We have lots of social media pictures to share this month.
Next up is our Waybac section which features the final batch of pix from Deanna’s digital camera from 2008. We lead off this time in January with more pictures of the girls at the Indy Children’s Museum and pictures from a jet, coming into NYC; then we see a lovely sunrise on Matt’s birthday in March and a couple of pictures of Texas Stadium; in July we have a ton of fun pictures from the 4th of July…looks like Ms. Ann had trouble with her chair again! 😊 After a few pix of Gracie’s bday in July, we have a bunch of photos of the girls at Kings Island in August and then we wrap up with a handful of Christmas Eve pictures at Gma & Gigi’s house. What a great batch of pictures this has been. I’ll have to dip into our archives and see what’s next for me to share in this area for future blog entries…

Next up is our video segment, which features one new home movie this month as well as several from around the internet.
And that does it for this month’s entry of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom.
