Well, it’s been a good run. As I mentioned late last year, after fifteen years and 750 entries I’m stepping back our weekly blog. I’m sure I’ll still have something to say in the future, but frankly we just don’t have that good of pictures, videos and stories to share any longer. I’m sure when we have some birthday pictures or other important events, I’ll write up an entry. But the day-to-day stuff – that’s done with this edition. We had a good week to end it on. Matt worked up in Carmel and coached in Zionsville. His wrestling team was busy this week, wrestling in the equivalent of seven dual meets. We really enjoyed watching him on the TV! Abby worked in Greenwood and spent time with her friends in Franklin & Bloomington. Although Luke didn’t do any handyman stuff this week, he did land a real job and moved one step closer to making the fire department. Ann had a good week at work and enjoyed some time with friends. I had a great week at work and even got to play a little disc golf. Between our schedule and the weather, I only played 18 holes this week and still haven’t been on the Greensburg course yet this year. In fact, I haven’t been out there in almost two months now. Granted, the 9th hole is currently under construction, but that won’t be an issue for me if I can work out some time to do it. I love all the commercials for NASCAR starting up again in two weeks. The Boilers looked good this week and should continue to be ranked in the top three in the nation. The Cowboys faced their 90s rivals the Forty-Niners for a chance to play in the NFC championship game. We had cold, wet weather all week that ranged from fog to rain to sleet to snow. I spoke to Dad B this week. He sounded so much better than the last time we spoke to him. He really gave us a scare but says he feels 100% better now and is on the mend. Hello again and welcome to the latest edition of the Scheu Family Blog.
It was back to work for Ann & I on MLK Day. It was a cold start when I went out to check the fluids in Barney. I was surprised to find the coolant was completely void in the vehicle. It took one of the two gallons I had in storage, so I’m not real sure what happened. It held the rest of the day, so I hope it was just a weird, over-heating issue that occurred once and is good now. We were greeted with a lovely, majestic sunrise with bright vivid colors as we headed back to Columbus. We had a fast morning at work. I caught up my emails and paperwork, did some IT stuff, met with Jim and did some housekeeping chores on my computer. Before I knew it, it was time to pickup Ann. We left a few hours early for Ann’s rheumatologist appointment. I dropped her off and went to see Drew at Tree City Lube to get the oil changed in the Barneymobile. I was glad to see that my little buddy Dipstick was back safe and sound. She went on an adventure the other day, winding up all the way on the other side of town somehow. She hopped up in the van and sat in the passenger seat the entire time I was in the shop. I came home just as Luke & Sam were headed to the gym to workout. I watched the first half of the Purdue / Michigan St game then went to get Annie. She said the doc wants to start her on some new meds and get some labs drawn to further understand what’s occurring so she can finally get some relief. She’s been dealing with this for over a year now. I was hoping to go play golf out at the park, but it was too cold and rainy. Instead, we watched the second half of the #3 Boiler game. It went right down to the last second. Edey hit a bucket with two seconds left and then the boys played good defense to secure a huge win and stay atop the leaderboard in the Big Ten! When Luke & Sam got back from the Y, we spoke for a while and encouraged him to go see a doctor for his breathing issues. Abby worked up at Sly Fox that day then stayed in Franklin with her buddy Sara. I did a 24° fast that day and did really well with it until I tasted Luke’s protein shake. My stomach growled and carried on until I finally broke down and ate dinner. We watched a couple episodes of So Help Me Todd and then turned on the final game of Super Wild Card Weekend. My Cowboys squared off with Tom Brady & the Buccaneers. They really came ready to play – good for Coach McCarthy. The defense looked great and the offense was the best it had been all year. This is the perfect time to be peaking! Dallas scored four straight TDs but missed 4 straight PATs, so that needs to be cleaned-up. They won going away and Tampa was never really in the ball game after the 1st quarter. It might’ve been Prescott’s best game of his career so far. It was the first time Dallas had won a playoff road game since the ’92 season, 30 years ago! I remember that game when they beat the ‘Niners at the old Candlestick Park. What a good day it was with both the Boilers and the “Boys winning on the same day! Here are a few random pix from our recent adventures.

We awoke to a damp, foggy Tuesday morning. It was another good day at work. I stayed busy with paperwork and special projects in the morning. Vic & I snuck away for a late lunch at Ye Olde Fish House. In the afternoon, I did the video surveillance reviews and got everything ready for me to start in on my quarterly report tomorrow. I was late getting out of work, but still had time to play a round of frisbee golf. It was super windy that afternoon, but that didn’t stop me from playing in my shorts and short sleeves. Granted, the wind played havoc with my throwing – plus I was a little rusty, having not played much yet, in the new year. I was three over, going into the last hole and then I threw a bomb – one of the longest and most accurate throws I’ve ever had – on 9. It went 314’ and landed just 10 or so feet to the right of the pin. I easily birdied that hole to end with a 29. We stopped at CVS for Ann’s new Rxs then got gas and Sonic at Tree City Travel. Abby was home when we got there, but she quickly retreated to her room to lay in her bed for a couple hours. Luke and Sam were gone – out to the Y to workout again. I’m really glad to see him so focused again and excited to try and get on the fire department force again. He had an interview at WTRE for a sales slot. He goes back for a follow-up on Thursday, so he’s pretty excited. Matt sent us a link for his home wrestling meet that night. Ann pulled it up on her phone so we could watch it in the van and then I pulled it up on my phone and “cast??? it onto the big screen, so it was pretty cool. I just wish they had zoomed out so we could see both mats. It would’ve been really good if there was just one, but with two, you got to see half of both – which means you pretty much missed 90% of the action. Truth be told, we wanted to see Coach Scheu more than we wanted to watch the little kids wrestling. But still, it was cool to catch glimpses of our favorite head coach. Matt and the Eagles hosted a 3-way meet he dubbed, “Battle for the West.??? It featured two teams he’d never beaten before – Brownsburg West and Westfield. They wound up winning it by downing Westfield 57-41 and then besting Brownsburg West by 10, 63-53! I’m not sure what the kids did to the dogs today, but they were both wiped out and just slept for most of the night. I was excited to see that my new fenders came in for my Zuca disc cart. When Luke came home, he put them on for me. It not only looks cool but now my Squatch bag doesn’t rub on the wheels! We talked to Luke for a while then watched the rest of season 1 of Ginny & Georgia on Netflix.
Wednesday was wet from start to finish. Ann & I both had fast days at work. She finally got out of the front office and was able to do her own work for once. I focused on doing my quarterly report. In doing so, I found out a few errors on my latest monthly report and had to revise it in the process. Brent & I went out for a quick lunch to Chick-Fil-A. I was heart-broken to hear that my beloved Arni’s had closed its doors that morning. We dropped off lunch for Annie on our way back to the facility. I hunkered down and really focused on the quarterly report in the afternoon…so much so that I completely lost track of time. I looked up after I had finished and it was a quarter after five. I was mad because I’d completely lost any chance of playing golf that day. Turns out, it was for the best because it was still raining outdoors. When we got home, Abby had just gotten back from work herself. She said it was Wet Wednesday and Ann said she wanted ElRep for dinner, so we went right back out into the rain and drove to our old haunt. We hadn’t been there as a threesome in quite a while. Luke & Sam were working out at the YMCA and then came home to eat later. Abs & I had a margarita with our tacos that went down pretty easily. When we got back, the girls and I sat in the kitchen and played a game of Phase 10 while listening to some Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush – part of the huge batch of new tunes I added over the weekend. Although Ann won more hands, Abby would end up winning an hour or so later. It wasn’t even close – LOL. It continued raining Bu went on to bed while Ann & I stayed up to watch a couple shows then made our way in that direction as well. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

Although it had finally stopped raining, it was still overcast on Wednesday morning. It was chilly as well, but no frost thankfully – just foggy windows. Work was busy but good for me. Ann said she had a crazy day, including having to call for an ambulance! We got Jim to come out with us (Vic, Brent, Justin & I) to lunch at Five Guys that afternoon. When we got back to the office, we all met up for our monthly Marathon Meetings Day. When we finished, I did a couple things then went out to play a round of disc golf. The weather was funny. The clouds blew out that morning and it was a lovely and warm about mid-morning. Then it had stormed really hard that afternoon. But, by the time I got out of work, it had stopped and was mostly dry that evening. Despite it being cold (mid-thirties) and having a 35-mph sustained wind, I was bound and determined to get out and play disc golf that day. I put on my gloves and a sock hat and went on my way. Holes 1, 2 & 8 were a challenge due to throwing into the teeth of the wind. But it was on hole 4 where I threw my first-ever triple bogie. ? Yes, I had a big, fat 6 on the fourth hole. The green is up on a hill and it was so windy that even when I threw it low and slow, the wind still caught it and slapped it 10’ away. After 4-putting, I wasn’t sure I had time to finish my round in time, but I finally started to figure it out on the back part of the course. However, it was still one of (if not THE) worst score on that field, ending with a 34 – ouch. Ann found a new tequila that sounded amazing, but we opted not to drive over to Batesville to pick it up. We weren’t able to achieve a quorum for Card Night, so we came on home and stayed in that night. We put on Matt’s wrestling meet on the big screen and watched all the action. The young Eagle grapplers hosted Avon South. Matt was not happy with the efforts. Not sure if they were tired from the three-way meet earlier this week, but whatever the cause they lost 46-51. There were several very close matches. Matt said due to the lack of effort he saw, the Friday practice would be a tough one for the kids – LOL. Man, I remember those days… Meanwhile, Luke had a big day. He had a second interview at WTRE and landed a sales job! He follows in the footsteps of his sister and mother (and Aunt and Memaw…and of course, Gigi!) to work at the station. As we got home, he was just leaving. He was headed down to city hall to take the written exam for the fire department job. He was obviously nervous, so we both gave him big hugs, gave him some advice and wished him well. We didn’t hear anything for the longest time. I think we might’ve been just as nervous for him; but we had faith. Like last year, he texted us that he had failed…then sent a f/u message saying he was messing with us and that he had passed again this year! Way to go, buddy!! ???? That little stinker always does that so when something does go awry, it’s hard to believe him sometimes! Abs prepared for her big weekend by doing several loads of laundry that evening while Ann & I watched a few shows, including Alert, Fantasy Island, Mayfair Witches and Will Trent. When Ann fell asleep and went on to bed, I put on the #3 Purdue basketball game and watched them thump Minnesota to move to 18-1 for the first time in school history! And finally, I was saddened to hear that David Crosby passed away overnight. This comes on the heels of the awful news that Jeff Beck had just passed away, along with Lisa Marie Pressley and Robbie Knievel. Man, they’re dropping like flies… I’ve been listening to Jeff Beck music at work for about a week now. It sounds like I may be listening to some Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young music tomorrow…
Ann & I worked from home on Friday morning as Abby got up and went into Sly Fox. It was another chilly one, so we were glad we got to stay in our cozy home instead of braving the weather. We slowly made our way to our positions with me in the family room and she in the living room that morning. I did a few tasks leftover from the week before starting in on my annual report. I worked on it until a little after noon when Luke got up. Ann & I wanted to take him out for lunch to celebrate him passing his big test yesterday. He wanted to go to the Chinese buffet here in town, as he love Asian food but could never go to Great Wall due to his food allergies. Now that it’s no longer an issue for him, a whole new world has opened up to him. It wasn’t too bad…about the same as the one in Columbus – except a lot cleaner! LOL! When we got back, I returned to work for a few hours then called it a day. We watched several DVR’d and streaming shows that evening, taking it easy. Luke & Sam worked out at the YMCA then went to her house for the night so they could get an early start at prom dress shopping in the morning. Abby worked up in Greenwood then went to Franklin to stay with her girlfriends. It allowed Ann & I to have a quiet night with the girls. Here are pictures of recent additions to my Hot Wheels collection.

We were hoping to sleep in on Saturday morning but Lola decided she was ready to be up and was quite vocal about it. I did a couple things around the house and then sat down and wrote out this week’s bills. Afterward, I went to Walmart for our weekly supply run. My gawd, things are continuing to go up in price. Hopefully, things will slow down and come back to normal soon because this is getting ridiculous. When I got home, I put everything away and grabbed some chow. Meanwhile, Annie went out with Amy that day for some retail therapy. They wound up in Columbus and had lunch at Big Woods. She showed me a purchase she was very proud of – a fancy, $1K purse & wallet that she picked up for $5! That is some damn nice bargain hunting. I love bargain hunting with I’m out Hot Wheelin’ myself! Abby left Franklin and travelled to Bloomington to visit her friends Mary & Julia, among others. They had a great time and stayed up way too late she said. Luke & Sam when prom dress shopping that day and got back a lot earlier than I thought they would. Hell, I thought it’d be just me and the dogs all day, so I did some day drinking. Luke watched some football with me and then they left later that evening to go work out at the Y and later went to her house to stay the night again – her poor parents, LOL! Matt had a big day, taking the Z-West wrestlers on the road to the Paul Hadley Super 8. In the first round, they easily handled South Putnam 73-30. In the 2nd round they faced Beach Grove and whooped that ass, 94-16! They defeated Plainfield 70-39 to move onto the championship round against Southport. They gave up some forfeits in that matchup but it didn’t matter as they went down24-81. Runner-up isn’t the worst thing to happen and now they have something to build on for the rest of the season. They did have one wrestler that who went 5-0 on the day who is 15-0 on the season. The team’s record stands at 10-4 on the year. Annie got home shortly before Luke left and settled in with me and we watched several DVR’d and streaming shows and decided to call it a night around midnight.
We did enjoy sleeping in a little on Sunday morning, finally. We slowly got out of bed. When we did, I got right to my weekly household chores that morning. Delilah was like a kid on Christmas morning. It had started snowing sometime in the middle of the night and when we got up it was still coming down hard and thick. We ended up with about two inches on the ground. However, it was too warm to stay for long and by the time we went to bed, most of it was already gone. We watched a couple SNLs – an old one and the new one from last night with one of my favorite actresses – Aubrey Plaza (I adored her in Legion and have loved her ever since). She was great in the skits from that show, as expected. I watched the #3 Boilers host Maryland at Mackey. They came out great then went flat after the half. They managed to hold on and move their record up to 19-1 on the season! I flipped over to watch the Bills / Bengals “game.??? It was never a game. It was cool due to it showing the entire time but Cincy was in complete control the entire time and will again advance to the AFC championship game for the 2nd year in a row. Abs came home just as the Cowboys game was starting. I worked on the blog and enjoyed some cheesy Fireworks popcorn for dinner, which Ann made for all of us that evening. Well, everyone but Luke. We didn’t even see him that day until late that night, as he stayed with Sammi in Batesville that day… Dallas had a tough first half but managed to only be down by 3 going into the half. When Pollard went down, I knew it would be an uphill climb for the offense. The defense played out of their minds. They were out there for so much longer than the offense was, but played their asses off. They held them to 16 points but the offense just wasn’t good enough. Need a deeper O line and a special tight end. Maybe picking up a good wide receiver in free agency so that defenses can’t double Cee Dee might be good as well… Either way, Big D went down 12-16. ? We turned on Disney+ and watched a couple episodes of the National Treasure series just before Luke got home. Abs ate her popcorn and passed out; I think. Luke wasn’t up long either – once he got home that night. We made ourselves go on to bed around midnight since we had to be up early on Monday morning to Ann can make it to her meeting on time. It was a relaxing way to wind down a nice weekend and a great way to put the kibosh on another fast week, here at the Scheu abode.
Next up is our Waybac segment which continues to feature pictures from Deanna’s digital camera lens in 2008. We lead off in Jan: Indy Children’s Museum and NYC from the air; Mar: Easter Day and Texas Stadium; Jul: 4th of July weekend and Gracie’s birthday; Aug: King’s Island; and Dec: Christmas Eve.

We had a good entry for the Shit that Luke Says corner, but it came during our Phase 10 game and we were laughing so loud that no one remembered to write it down! Samantha said she wrote part of it down, but she never sent it to me so maybe we can use it next time.
We wrap up like we do every week – with our video segment. We have one short home movie to share this week as well as several from around the internet.
And that does it for this week’s episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one and stay safe out there. We miss ya so much, Momma.
Later, Scheu
