It was a long week. The wrestling team had senior night, so Matt and his senior teammates have seen their final home meet now. Matthew received a lot of recognition in the press this week, with a lot of respect coming his way – good for him, he deserves it. We got more cold and snow this week, cancelling school, practices and games late in the week, since people don’t know how to drive in a little snow – pitiful. They’d die up in LaPorte, who is slated to get approximately two feet of snow this weekend!! I remember learning to drive in that stuff in the old rear-wheel drive ’64 Galaxie 500. So driving in this little amount with front wheel or all-wheel drive cars is a piece of cake.
After a warming trend last weekend, it started to cool down again on Monday. Matt had wrestling, Luke had basketball and Abby had dance. Ann & I attended a senior parents meeting for financial aid deadlines and paperwork. Tuesday was the 45th anniversary of the eponymous debut of Led Zeppelin. What an album – one of my favorites of all-time. I remember it was one of only two cassette tapes I took with me on our Florida vacation back in like 1984. It was all I needed. It continued to get colder and colder as the day went on and they started talking about more snow coming our way. We hurried home to attend the final home wrestling meet vs. our rival Batesville Bulldogs. Last year, they squeaked out a victory in the final match of the evening and left a sour taste in our mouths. Tonight, we honored our six senior grapplers. We will sure miss these boys and their families. You get to know them so well over the years. This is such a great group of kids that we know will go on to be very successful as young adults. It was cool; they had the senior banners up and they are very big!! Sandy & Maryann came out to watch the Senior Night festivities along with Phyllis and Dick. Gigi got pictures for us while Abby took video. Thank you, ladies! Matt rooted/coached his teammates and ran the scoreboard for the team. The meet itself was never close. The Pirates came out, took names and kicked ass on their way to an absolute route – 62-15 to end their home season on a very high note! While the kids were picking up the wrestling mats and bleachers, Matt was being interviewed by the newspaper – what a thrill! We got home and had Papa John’s pizzas to celebrate Matt’s final home meet (his request). We saw that Matt was in the paper (the first of what would be three straight nights!). It described the events of the Brown County Invitational and we were thrilled they took time to recognize how big of an event it was for not only the team, but for its locker room leader. I was very impressed with the article.

On Wednesday, Matt had wrestling and it began snowing again. Ann, Dan, George and I moved furniture from their Columbus office over to the new Greensburg office after work, in the snow. Ann’s new window signs were finally installed so we had to get a silly picture with them. We finished up and went to Wings & Rings for a few brews and a bunch of wings. Matt was in the paper again and he finally got us his football pictures that we had assumed would never be seen…

We received a couple inches of snow on Thursday. We were saddened to hear that Russell Johnson had died at the age of 89 – he is better known as The Professor on the old TV show, Gilligan’s Island. Matt was again in the paper for wrestling. Luke’s basketball practice was cancelled and so was Abby’s dance class – for the home varsity basketball game where the defending state champs and currently #1-ranked 3A Pirates were facing their arch enemy – the Batesville Bulldogs – the last team to defeat them in the regular season in three years!! My best friend from college, Paul, and his family met us at the game. I sat with them, which was about 6 rows behind the Batesville bench and right next to their cheer block. I caught all kinds of shit from our friends who all saw me over there. The Pirates ended up winning by 30 – a blowout. The wrestling banners had been moved out of the Fieldhouse and were now hung in the main gym along with the senior basketball players and cheerleaders. Poor Matt’s banner has the main picture shown with his busted knee and the background photo is an action picture with his busted shoulder – poor kid!! But that is his high school career in a nutshell – plagued with the injury bug. His body still has many good years in it; I hope he decides to continue his career at the next level. Afterwards we went out to eat with the Drakes and then came home to watch the new season debut of American Idol. Meanwhile Ann stayed home and worked, taking a ton of online classes for her new computer program she has to roll-out very soon.

We got a few more inches of snow overnight and they ended up cancelling school. Ann went scrapbooking until late at Mrs. B’s. The kids and I called Grandma Barb and sang Happy Birthday to her…even though it was a day late. Matt did not attend wrestling due to the snow but he ran a few errands for Ann. Once he returned, the kids and I went out to eat at El Chile Poblano. After dinner, Luke & I went out to the Messers where Bryan and I had a drink and a stick while Luke & Drew played. Luke & I had fun driving the truck home in the snow that night… Here are the write-ups of Matt and the wrestling team this week…

Matt was up early on Saturday and headed to Tri High with his wrestling teammates. Although Matt did not wrestle, he continues to attend every practice, meet and outing. We were overjoyed to hear that the boys had tremendous success and brought more hardware, winning the invitational!! Way to go, boys! Luke had travel team basketball practice at the junior high and then later had all-star baseball practice at Bryan’s new building. It snowed again but we didn’t get nearly as much as they thought we’d get. Overall this week, I’d say we have about 5??? setting on the ground outside. Ann again went scrapbooking at Mrs. B’s while Abby & I did weekly household chores while watching Harry Potter movies and taking cat naps here and there. She was going to go to the movies with a boy, but the roads were too sloppy for his parents to bring him in to town apparently.
Although we didn’t get all the snow they had predicted, apparently it was enough for others as both Luke’s basketball games and Abby’s volleyball game were all cancelled for reasons apparently related to the roads. We do live in Indiana, right? I’m not sure why people are freaking out over a few inches of snow. Abby did have travel team softball out at the YMCA and Luke had a practice/pickup game at the junior high school. He was so proud that he made 2 out of 2 three-pointers during his playing time. The girls went out shopping and the boys watched football. It was the AFC Championship game on first – Manning vs. Brady – Broncos vs. Patriots. It was a pretty good game too, but in the end Peyton had 400 passing yards and the Broncos were victorious! Next up was the NFC Championship game with the Seahawks taking on the 49ers. Those are probably the two teams playing the best defense in the league right now (so I naturally love both of them). This game was still going on as I wrote this entry, so the Super Bowl 48 teams are not quite set – we know it will be Peyton’s Ponies but we don’t know who they’ll take on yet…but we wish the best for Mr. Manning and will be rooting for him to succeed in the big game.
Next up we have several social media pictures from the week, including Abby with her “Uncles???, Matt and his wrestling partner, Big Daddy, who is having a phenomenal year himself; Abby with the young man who went to Florida with us at Fall Break; my cousins Barney & Kimmy; my good buddy Mark Kosior from high school; Barney’s oldest son and his girlfriend; my cousin Kathy and family friend Bill Bailey; Kathy with Barney & Steph; Barney at Wrigley Field; Kimmy & Steph at a Cub’s game; Barney & Steph’s kiddos; my cousins Barney & Jason at a Cubs/Cards game; an ad for my favorite Family Guy episodes; the new look of the LA Forum, where the Eagles will be playing soon; an awesome KISS VW bug; a funny Calvin & Hobbes strip (I know many people like this, unfortunately); an optical illusion that Luke wanted me to share; an article from the Columbus Republic newspaper with a couple pictures of our facility (one inside and one outside) and a good guy that comes to talk to the boys every so often; The Professor now and then; John Paul Jones publicity photo of his new band with an album coming out very soon (it sounds like it will be a little weird, but I’ll probably pick it up anyhow because it is JPJ!); Luke & Drew crashed on the Messer’s couch one morning and finally a couple shots of the front of our home with a few inches of snow on it.

Next up is our Waybac section. First up, we have a graduation picture of my Grandpaw, Robert Brown, circa 1938 – maybe graduation from jr high? That is followed with an early picture of one of the Timm girls – I believe this is Peggy from about 1952; then we have the Browns & Athas away on a weekend getaway to go canoeing in August of 1954; then we have the Browns and Aunt Midge and her husband playing cards on Elmwood Ave in February & March of 1959; Grandpaw screwing around with a rifle in the early 60s; Grandpaw in the newspaper in 1961; “Doo-Doo??? Debbie Timm in about 1969; my Great Grandpa Morgan at the Morgan family Christmas at Uncle Keith’s house in December of 1980; Mom’s awesome Christmas dinner in LaPorte in 1981; Robby’s Christmas picture in 1984 when he was 5 years old; Keith’s best friend, Dave’s, wedding in Greensburg in 1991; then another picture of our big, backyard Fourth of July bash in 2003; and finally the Brown Family Christmas party at Mom & Dad B’s house on the hill in Rossville in 2003.

Next up is our video section, which includes one new family video and several from around the internet.
