Will this winter ever release us from its grip? Just when we thought Spring had sprung, we endured yet another week of cold, snow and sleet. Sure, April showers will bring us May flowers, but I’m ready to get on with the warmer weather so I can get back on my exercise regimen. Matt worked from home in Carmel all week. Although we didn’t see him this week, we look forward to seeing him next week. Abby returned to school this week, as she makes here way down the final home stretch of her college career. We have already begun talking about graduation and post-schooling plans. We enjoyed spending time with her this week, along with her boyfriend. Luke had another full week of school, track, workouts at the Y and spending time with his buddies. His future is still uncertain with multiple possibilities inf front of him. Although he still has time, it won’t be long before he, too, is done with school. He won his first shotput competition this week – despite the inclement weather. If he can win in the snow, sleet and rain – we can’t wait to see what he can do on a warm, sunny day! Ann and I had another busy week at work in Columbus. I only managed about nine miles of exercise this week. I did enjoy playing three rounds of frisbee golf but lost my favorite disc in the process. It had a burial at sea, unfortunately. Perhaps this will force me to start using my golf discs on a more regular basis now… Hello again and welcome to the latest entry of the Scheu Family Blog.
It was back to work and school on Monday morning. It was Abby’s first day back after Spring Break, but she did fine. Matt continues to learn his new job and is contemplating accepting the role of assistant coach within the Zionsville school system. Luke, I assume, did well at school, track and lifting at the Y. I say assume because I didn’t even see him that day. Ann and I commuted back to Columbus on a chilly morning. I worked on finance and IT stuff in the morning. After our morning meeting with Jim, the guys and I went out to lunch at Snappy Tomato for the first time in about a month. They missed us and told us so – LOL. In the afternoon, I did most of the monthly purchasing for the facility. I got out on time for once and enjoyed walking three miles on a lovely day – sunny and 60 degrees. It was cool enough that I had to wear a sweatshirt, but it was humid at the same time and it made me a little sweaty. I was thrilled to see a group of guys out playing on the frisbee golf course that has been staked-out around the airport grounds, mainly around Ray Boll Blvd. I sooo wanted to grab my stuff and join them! Ann said she had a good day but was ready to go home that night. Before we left town, we dropped off Luke’s old phone at the UPS store to return to Verizon then we stopped by Needlers on the way home to pick up supplies for that evening. Bryan had texted his band of merry men and we all agreed to meet up out at the Sunken Boat Bar for a night of cards, food, spirits and, of course, the big basketball game. I played a round of frisbee golf when we got back home. There was a fairly strong breeze, which wasn’t ideal for my first time throwing from the back tees this year. I decided to start trying to throw a few of the golf discs to try and start using them instead of my old faithful Heavyweight frisbee…with mixed results. On the very first hole, I threw my disc golf driver in the pond. Thankfully, I had both the extension hook and grabber-nabber in the van and I quickly retrieved the disc and continued on my way. I wound up playing a scramble-sort of game where I threw three different discs and then played the best throw. I wound up with a one-over-par 28. I came home and procured pictures and watched a show with Ann before heading out to Bryan’s house to meet up with the guys. We had a great night. The food was outstanding – Bryan smoked a big batch of spicy meatballs. Shawn smoked a huge meatloaf. Rick brought chicken from Jordan’s that so good. The rest of us brought snacky stuff that made the night a true feast! The game was great as well with NC going up 15 by the half only to have Kansas come back and win by a bucket in the end. The card game was good as well. I broke even on the night with the host winning the night. That left Ann to enjoy a quiet night at home with the dogs… Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.

Tuesday was a wet one. It rained on and off pretty much all day. I don’t think the sun came out for longer than a few minutes and even though it stayed in the 50s all day, it was so humid! I finished up purchasing and worked on some IT stuff in the morning. It was Vic’s birthday and even though Justin’s back was killing him still, we took him out for lunch at Arni’s. We brought along Michelle and Ann to help us celebrate and enjoyed a good meal. Even Jim & his wife showed up there! That afternoon, I worked on more IT stuff as well as did some work on my books, prepping for corporate boss’ visit in a couple weeks. I got out a little late that evening and only managed two and a half miles of walking that afternoon. It was similar to yesterday’s weather where I couldn’t decide if I should wear my sweatshirt or take it off. With it off, it was pretty chilly but with it on, it was again sweaty due to the humidity. I was hoping there would be more folks playing on the disc golf course, but it had just stopped raining and was obviously too wet. During our commute home, Ann & I saw a bad one-car accident outside of Hartsville, on the big hill. It looked like everyone survived, but it was quite a mess. When Ann & I got back home, I was more than ready to go play some frisbee myself – despite a slight drizzle. I grabbed my towel and three discs again and played another round of scramble frisbee golf from the back tees. The wind was much better that evening and I was able to shave a couple strokes off my score with a respectable 26. Ann made dinner with parmesan-encrusted chicken breasts, paprika potatoes and corn. It was really good but I had eaten such a big lunch earlier (Arni’s senior and large Big Daddy pizza), that I couldn’t even finish my plate. When’s the last time that happened, you may ask? I honestly cannot remember that far back! Meanwhile, Luke followed his regular routine – school, Advanced PE lifting, track practice (with some lifting) and then going to the YMCA (to lift). He went to the grocery store that evening before coming home. I didn’t see him for more than a few seconds that night, as he made himself dinner and then showered and went on to bed. Ann & I watched a couple DVR’d shows (American Idol & Something About Pam…) before she fell asleep in her chair and went on to bed. I stayed up just long enough afterward to watch Oak Island before turning in myself…
We could see a cool looking front coming from the southwest as we drove into work on Humpday. It got foggier as we got closer to work. It was still nice that morning, but with the front moving through the area that day, it was forecast to be the last nice day in a while with the chance of snow coming this weekend. It was a really fast day. I had an orientation class that morning and then started in on my monthly reports as I worked on some IT projects in the background. Shortly after lunch, Ann & I left work early. She had some prizes to be picked up in Westport and then had a meeting at the high school that afternoon. We made pretty good time that allowed us to get a slushy from Sonic and then went over to Mom & Sandy’s house for a little bit to visit. I picked up my battery charger so that I can get Black Betty & Betty White up and going this weekend or next (depending on the weather). I dropped Ann off at her meeting and went out to the park to play a round of frisbee golf. It was drizzly, cool with a gusty wind. I picked another 3 discs – my favorite (Old Blue – a Heavyweight disc that I’ve been using every round for the last year and a half), my Aviar putter as well as a new disc called the Leopard. I was doing fairly well, given the elements, through the first four holes. But when I teed off on the island, there was a perfect storm of a strong gust of wind paired with a horrendous throw, I managed to do something I hadn’t done in over 18 months. I threw a frisbee into the middle of the pond. Not only was one of my discs – it was my favorite disc. ? There was absolutely no way to retrieve this disc. When I say it landed in the middle of the pond, I mean it was 50 or 60 feet out into the middle of the body of water. And although there was no way for me to go get it anyway, it sank almost instantly. I was crushed, but I guess it’s a sign that I need to start learning how to use my golf discs correctly. I had planned to throw from the back tees, but with the weather the way it was, I decided to move to the front tees. I did fairly well – despite losing Old Blue – shooting a 23. I came home and began editing this week’s blog pictures and videos. Kristie brought Ann home after their meeting, interrupting my nap. Jimmy stopped by to deliver another batch of shirts and sweatshirts for work. As he left, Ann followed him out the door, as one of her buddies was here to pick her up. They met up with the other scrapbook friends for a girls’ night out. They wound up in Batesville at LaRosa’s. Meanwhile, Luke got home that evening from school and track practice. He grabbed a quick dinner and went back to shower and get ready to go workout at the Y. However, he wound up falling asleep and slept for a couple hours. When he finally got back up, he was too tired to do much of anything so he grabbed a second dinner and went back to bed – LOL. When Ann got home, we watched a couple DVR’d shows and then she fell asleep. I watched a new series that evening on the INSP channel called The Men Who Built America: Frontiersman. That first episode featured Daniel Boone, who I find fascinating (probably due to the Disney show I used to watch on TV when I was little). It was pretty good and I look forward to the 2nd episode next week. We have a ton of social media pictures to share this week.

Thursday was noticeably cooler. It rained a little again that day and never really go much warmer than about 40 degrees. It was another fast day for Ann & I at work. I kept busy with some IT projects and began my monthly reports. I was hoping to go walking that afternoon, but it was raining, so I wound up working until it was time to leave…though we did leave early. Originally, we thought we were travelling to Batesville that night for Luke’s track meet, but it turned out that they had moved venues and it was now our home opener. We stopped by the house to let the dogs out and grab Ann’s headphones so she could jump on a webinar while she was at that meet. It was sure cold out there that night with the strong wind blowing in a cold front that started as rain then turned to sleet and snow! They poor boys had to throw the discus into the teeth of that nastiness. Luke struggled on his first three throws but nailed it on this final throw – hitting about the 120’ mark…but it hit the out-of-bounds line and was ruled out. ? I think he may have ended up not placing. Thankfully, Coach Moore came over to watch and opened up the shed that was next to the discus field so that we could at least get out of the precipitation. The same couldn’t be said for the athletes. They were so cold that Luke said he couldn’t even feel the discus in his hand! Although he stayed bundled up for the first three attempts, he took off his warmups and had only his shorts and tank top on the final one – that’s when we knew shit just got real! Next, we moved over to the shotput pit. Coach took us inside the newly completed locker room, which sets adjacent to the course. It is very nice…and it was heated! So, we hung out in there for a minute and by the time the competition resumed, it had stopped raining. It was still pretty wet and slick, but Coach Jackson did a good job of getting it dried and cleaned. Luke took the lead with his first throw, which was another PB (personal best). His next three were all PBs as well and his final throw was his best (well, his 3rd throw was likely further, but he scratched), going 47’ 1???. We congratulated him and he asked if it was good enough for ElRep…who were we to say no? Rather than asking, he just sorta left – oops! We were thrilled to get out of the cold and enjoyed a good meal and a margarita. We came home afterward and got comfy and under blankets with the dogs. We watched a couple of old videos we found on the blog, ranging from 2004 – 2009. They were great! We watched game film from that night and then turned-on Law & Order…and I promptly fell asleep. I woke up about halfway through and went on to bed, sleeping 9 hours…ahh…
We enjoyed sleeping in a few minutes later than normal on Friday morning. Luke went to school and then to track practice. He got fitted for his prom tux. We sent in money for him to get his senior banner and track pictures as well. Ann contacted Koch’s about catering his grad party out at High Point Orchard, but they never got back with her. I guess she’ll have to look for someone else…that’s a shame… Ann & I went through Dunkin and then I dropped her off at the downtown office and ran a couple errands before heading back to the house. I worked from home in the family room all day with the dogs. It rained on and off again that day, so I had to dry / clean the dogs each time they went outside. I must’ve slept funny last night because my back had a nasty muscle ache that I dealt with all day. I was pleased with the amount of work I accomplished and now only have three more reports to finish this week. After work, Ann put some Icy Hot on my back, I took some ibuprofen and got out the heating pad to try and calm down my pissed-off muscle. After watching a couple DVR’d shows, Ann & I welcomed home Abby & Will. She had a full day of school then went to Greenwood to work that afternoon before heading back to the ‘Burg. We chatted for a few minutes then piled into the Barneymobile and headed back out to see our friends at El Reparo. Abs & I had the fish tacos. The kids and I split a pitcher of margaritas. Ann enjoyed her frozen version, though she swears it was not the correct flavor. We came home and Abs did laundry and tried on formal dresses. Afterward, we headed to the kitchen for a night of euchre. We got into the new bottles of Cocalero and did a round of Spice Bombs, and Coca Bombs, had a Coca Tonic and then a Coca Sour. Next, we switched over to the new Wild Turkey American Honey and made a round of whiskey sours with that before ending the night with a round of Ginger Loves Jerrys. Meanwhile, Ann enjoyed several Blood Orange Martinis, varying the recipe a couple times through the night. The old farts took on the young guns again, as we did at Franklin a few weeks back. Ann & I won the first game then we sort of got sideways and the second game became a marathon. My partner had a little trouble staying focused and the kids came from behind to win 10-9. There was no way we were going to get in a rubber match, so that will have to wait for another day…. but the kids were thrilled to finally win against us – LOL! ???? Luke and his friends came home late that night and after we put the girls to bed, all the boys watched a few episodes of Rick and Morty to cap off a fun night. Here are pictures of recent additions to my Hot Wheels collection.

The dogs were up and ready to go at sunrise on Saturday morning. Lola peed in her pin again (two days in a row), so I got the dogs out and cleaned up that mess. It had snowed overnight and it covered the whole yard and vehicles. The dogs ran in the mud, playing with the neighbor dogs. We HAVE to do something with yard this spring. It’s such a messy mud bog… After getting the dogs cleaned-up, I turned my attention on the kitchen and liquor cabinet and got the house back to normal. I had the music up a little loud and by the time I finished, pretty much everyone else was awake in the house. Luke’s buddies both went home and later the girls went dress shopping. Meanwhile, Luke showered and then he and I went to eat at Frisch’s with Will and enjoyed their breakfast buffet. Man, it was so good! We definitely got our money’s worth. ???? We were supposed to attend Luke’s track meet that morning, but late yesterday afternoon we received notification that they had cancelled it due to the cold weather and precipitation. Luke took a nap while I watched the NASCAR races I had taped on the DVR the last couple days. Rain cleared up the snow but it remained cold and overcast all day. I edited pictures and videos then wrote out all the html code for this week’s blog entry. I drove over to Columbus and did some Hot Wheels hunting at the Exit 76 Antique Mall. I normally look for older cars when I go there, but that day I was after the latest 2022 cars, since anything new at Walmart and Target have been few and far between. I had massive luck and found just about all of the cars I was after! I headed up to Franklin afterward and met up with Will at the ??? house. We played a game of euchre with a couple of his brothers. Ann & Abby found dresses for graduation and for Spring Formal. She’s got big dances every weekend this month, I believe, starting with one that evening at the Sig house. I think she’s headed to IU next week and then in back-to-back weeks, she has her formal and then Will’s. …’Tis the season, I suppose… The girls finished up at the Greenwood Park Mall and came back to the FC campus. Ann and I said our good-byes to the kids and headed back home. I was hoping to get gas up there since it is over $.50 less, but the BP was sold out. Thankfully, we had enough petrol to get back home – even with us stopping for a quick McDonald’s dinner on the road. The dogs were happy to see us and we enjoyed a quiet night with them. Luke came home briefly, after working out at the YMCA. He wasn’t home long as headed out to a friend’s house to stay the night. We watched a few DVR’d shows until I fell asleep and went on to bed. We laughed that Ann would be out there until 2 am. She laughed and said she’d be back in a few…ya; you guessed it…she finally came to bed around two in the morning…
We enjoyed sleeping in a little on Sunday morning. Lola was yapping with the sunrise again that day. I got up and did a few things around the house. Later, I checked in all my new Hot Wheels cars while doing laundry. Luke came home and retreated to his bedroom, where he “remodeled??? it (rearranged and cleaned it) in preparation of Dad & Lynn coming to visit next month. We talked to them for a while that morning, making plans for them to come stay with us for Abby’s and then Luke’s graduation. Abs is working hard to get extra tickets for the event. I guess they moved it indoors – and as such, there is limited seating for everyone. We may end up paying for extra tickets…but if that’s what it takes, I guess. But how idiotic is it that after paying such a lofty bill that we have to fight for tickets to bring grandparents. She only gets six but we need ten. Hopefully Abs can find some extra tickets soon! Luke worked on his room pretty much all day – except when he went to work out at the Y and then stopped by to see Gma & Gigi for a while. I put on the NASCAR race from last night and napped on and off for a couple hours that afternoon. I finished up the blog on a lovely afternoon / evening. I’m hopeful that this week will be warmer and dryer that this one was. That evening, we watched the latest episode of Outlander, on the big screen and enjoyed some spicy, cheesy Fireworks popcorn for dinner. It was a hell of an episode! Afterward, we watched Murder on the Orient Express. Later, Ann went on to bed while I watched The Walking Dead to wrap up the night. It was a great way to wind down a nice weekend and relaxing way to put a cap on another enjoyable week.
Next up is our Waybac segment which continues to feature pictures from the batch Aunt Sue gave me at Christmas. We lead off this week in the 1930s with a picture of “Uncle Charlie and his catch.??? In the 1940s we have a picture of “Aunt??? Mary Koerner in an undated picture, Pug and Sue in ’43, Sue on 9th St in ’44: 2 of her playing in the yard, one with Granny Deerr and then one in a cool, old sled; and then Sue with a young Grandma Scheu in April of ’45. IN the 1990s we have an envelope with Granny’s writing, Ryan in Jan of ’94 and lastly we have Connor’s birth announcement in May ’94.

We wrap up with our video segment which includes one short home movie this week as well as several from around the internet.
And that does it for this week’s entry of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one and stay safe out there. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu
