We enjoyed another fast week since we last touched base. Matt had an exciting final week at Z-West, going on outings everyday and then went on a sixth one on the weekend – he was pretty wiped-out by week’s end. Abby continued prepping for her trip to Europe next week, cleaning her room, getting all her crap out of the living room (still from college move-out day!), and pulling together all the clothes and gifts she wants to take with her. She worked full-time in Greenwood and even got a raise! We enjoyed spending a little more time with her this weekend. Luke continues to wait to hear something about the firefighter job, but there’s been no news in a couple weeks now. In the meantime, he continues to do odd jobs to make a little money. He enjoyed spending time with his buddies as much as possible before they all go their separate ways, here in a couple weeks. He also started seeing a gal from Batesville as well this week. Ann had a weird week. She worked in three cities, took two days off and was sick for most of it. She’s doing much better now, but she was pretty rough for a day or two there… I had a good week. As for me, I had a busy week at work, fasted for two days but fell short of my workout goal by about three miles due to life getting in the way. The weather was nearly unbearable at times with the heat and humidity, but we did get some much-needed rain as well. I did manage to play 9 rounds of disc golf, but between the weather, my ankle killing me and me losing my favorite frisbee, it was not my best week. The best part of the week, though, was finally getting a chance to shoot off my guns with Luke, out at Justin’s range! Hello and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
The girls and I were up early and out the door for work on Monday. Ann & I drove down to North Vernon, where she had to work at her outpatient office for the day. I got all the way down there and realized I was a dumbass…I had forgotten my laptop again – dammit!! So, dropped her off and drove all the way back home. Highway 3 is closed due to replacing another bridge, but we figured out a workaround through the country that was pretty easy. The dogs were excited when I came in, but I just ran in and out to get back on the road and finally headed over to Columbus. I was pretty late by the time I finally got to the office. It took me a few hours to get caught up on everything from Friday and the weekend. It was after lunch by the time I got started on my monthly rounds. Jim held a job fair that morning but I think only one person showed up because corporate didn’t get our ad published on social media. He wants to do them once a week for a while to try and see if we can get more employees in the house. After work, I went across the street to play disc golf. It wasn’t nearly as hot but it was still really humid. Many of my tee shots sucked but my approach shots were spot on, allowing for easy putts and ended my 18 holes at a 1-under (53). I picked up Ann and came home. It looked like it was going to rain – hell, it looked that way all day, to be fair. I stayed home, waiting on a call from Matthew. We called our friends and Sallie Mae and got some things figured out for him. He had a fun day at work, taking the kids from Z-West on a field trip to Indiana Beach again! I loved that place as a kid. I remember when we stayed there for a week with good friends, the Crums. We stayed right next door, on one of the Twin Lakes – Lake Schaeffer, I think, at the Big Chief Lodge. Mark & I had so much fun… Luke went out on a double date with Oakley and a couple nice girls from Batesville. They played putt-putt golf and went to Columbus to eat. When they got home, they had Brayden come over to meet them…and the three of those boys together are somehow less intelligent than when separated! They are funny, but a little too forthcoming at times… Although I was hungry, I powered through my fast, passing the 24-hour mark while we began binge-watching the 2nd season of Home Before Dark. Here are pictures from Sandy and Grace’s dual birthday party.

Tuesday was noticeably cooler…and wet. It had obviously rained overnight and it continued to rain on and off all day long. I had a very busy day, continuing with my monthly rounds while having a couple vendors in-house, dealing with typical issues that arise (damage from residents, staff needs and even a broken pipe inside a wall). Thankfully, I have Vic working with me and he does so much that it allows me to accomplish more than I ever have through the years. I continued on my weekly two-day fast. Although I did not get a headache this week, I was so hungry by the time I got out of work. With everything going on, I got out late and coupled with my hunger, I was ready to go home. Thankfully, Ann was ready to leave as well and so we left Columbus a little early to head home. As it turned out, the weather broke and would’ve been perfect for golf, but it was too late…I was focused on food and had severe tunnel vision. When we got back to town, I didn’t even play at the park. Instead, I got my comfy clothes on and five minutes after walking in the door, I was in the refrigerator and grabbing leftovers from Sandy’s birthday party this past weekend. Annie was feeling a little nauseous and didn’t even eat that night, I don’t think. We put on the Discovery channel and watched a couple Shark Week programs and promptly fell asleep in a presumed carb-coma. When I woke up, I had lost the remote to Ann and she had a puke bucket next to her in the chair. She was sound asleep so we didn’t even watch any of our shows that night. I faded in and out for a bit but did eventually wake up once the kids got home and began making noise. I watched a couple old shows that had been setting on the DVR for a couple months and edited all the pictures and videos for this week’s blog. Abby watched a show with Will on Netflix and worked on cleaning her room. Luke came home at some point while we were asleep and went out later with Brayden to IHOP for a late-night snack. Ann said Matt went to Sky Zone with the Z-West kids that day, so I’m sure he was exhausted by the time he got home that night as well. I probably should’ve gone golfing that night because the news said the forecast for the next day or two is a bunch of rain… ?
Ms. Ann was up all night, sick. She had a nasty headache, was in and out of the bathroom, severe abdominal pain and even had muscle cramps. Obviously, she was dehydrated but she couldn’t keep water in her, so she was damned if she did and damned if she didn’t. She wound up staying in bed and sleeping until mid-afternoon. When she finally did get up and move to her chair, she scared the crap out of Luke, who didn’t even know she had stayed home! She no sooner kicked back in her chair before she was asleep again – the poor thing. She slept another few hours before getting up in the early evening. It was storming so hard that morning that there was low-level flooding during Abby & I’s drives in to work. There were flash flood and flood warnings in the several counties in this area. It finally fizzled out around noon and then it got really hot and humid. I finished up my EOC rounds that day, keeping very busy all day long. I did take a long lunch with Justin, Vic & Steph. We ate at Five Guys and then had to go help Luke, who was stuck over at Chipotle, just down the road from us. Luke came over to Columbus to help me pick out a new handgun. But he called when we were eating, saying his car wouldn’t start when he came back out with his lunch. Turns out, he didn’t have it fully in gear (park) and so once he got it back reset, it fired right up. Once he got the Hot Rod Lincoln fired-up, we went to a small, mom ‘n’ pop store called US Defense Solutions. They had a good selection of firearms and the guys there were very knowledgeable. I wound up getting a Springfield Hellcat. Afterward, I finished up my rounds and took my monthly inventory of our nursing supplies before heading up to the office to finish up paperwork and call it a day. I played 18 holes of frisbee golf afterward and sweated my butt off. I ended right at par (54) for the day before heading back to the ‘Burg. I stopped at the park and played another 18 holes and finished off my water bottle. It felt pretty good to be back on the course – especially since I hadn’t played at home for nearly a week! I shot a 46, which wasn’t too bad considering there was a really strong breeze that night. I ran a few errands afterward, including getting a slushy from Sonic and buying lottery tickets for the billion-dollar drawing this week. Matt took the Z-West kids to the Indy Children’s Museum that day. Luke worked out at the YMCA that evening. After work, Abs stopped in Columbus to see Jami and get her hair done. That evening, Ann & I binge-watched a few more episodes of Home Before Dark. When Luke got home, Ann went to bed and I worked on the blog for a little while as we watched a couple episodes of the Daily Show. Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.

Ann was still ailing on Thursday morning and decided to stay home again that day. It was a much nicer day that yesterday, sunny and pleasant. I enjoyed riding into work with the windows down and everything…but that didn’t last long. By noon it was nasty – hot and muggy. I had a fast morning and before I knew it, noon was here and I was hungry. Vic & I ran out to Ye Old Fish House for lunch and had fish with a side of fish! ???? I was stuffed when I came back and headed into our quarterly Quality Council meeting to present my EOC info for Q2. Afterward, I wrote out all my work orders from this week’s rounds. It took longer than I thought and wound up getting out later than I planned. Still, with Ann home, I had not timetable so I headed over to play frisbee golf next door. The city was doing the school supply drive, handing out all sorts of stuff for the less fortunate in the area. Judging by what I saw, they had a big turnout. They had the roads marked off with cones in several places to help keep traffic flowing properly. It sure made for a much larger crowd than I was used to seeing out there. Normally I see maybe five cars but there were probably close to a hundred while I was out playing and they had this going on all day. I did fairly well, throwing a 51 and leaving the course sweaty and a little winded. I had to run back to work for a little bit then left town about an hour late. I stopped at the park to play some more golf when I got back to town. I was tearing it up, even though I was sweating profusely due to the nasty humidity. I was 4-under-par heading to hole 6 (my nemesis) when I threw a horrible shot that went straight into a tree on the bank of the pond and fluttered into really thick brush. I spent the next 15 minutes looking for it and came up empty-handed. That makes 9 discs claimed by the damn pond. It was my favorite disc. I used my orange Aviar for every hole I played at least once. I’ll have to look for it again this weekend and hopefully I can find it like I did my yellow Leopard a few weeks back…in the same damn area. ? After obviously bogeying that hole, I wound up throwing a 22. I was so mad about my disc and hot from crawling around in the bush that I didn’t even play the 2nd round. Instead, I came home and hopped in the shower and called it a day. Luke got up that morning and did some side work with one of the firefighters. That evening, he had Samantha over to watch a movie and hang out. She was very sweet and we felt sorry for her being trapped in that hot bedroom all evening. Abby drove back up to Sly Fox to work all day. She was supposed to clean her room, but instead she watched a show with Will, made herself dinner and promptly fell asleep. Matt took the kids from Z-West to the Indy Zoo that day. Ann had more of the same: headache, muscle cramps and frequent trips to the restroom. …But she didn’t sleep all day like yesterday and was feeling a little better – so she is hoping to return to work tomorrow…we’ll see…
I was up a little later than I should’ve last night, causing Friday morning to come much too soon. Ann was still feeling pretty rough that morning and struggled to get going. But to her credit, she toughed it out…but she passed on the Dunkin, as she was still struggling with her bowels. So, I dropped her off and ran through Walmart real quick to pickup weekly supplies. I was surprised to see that their Lawn & Garden section in the parking lot was gone – a sure sign that summer is over. Luke was up when I got home and helped me carry stuff in and I got to work. I finished up paperwork from my rounds, coordinated several projects and began ordering nursing supplies for the month. Luke did some yardwork for Gma & Gigi that morning and got back home in the early afternoon. I was just finishing up and had a little more to do, but he convinced me that I should be done and that we should go buy ammo for my new gun at Rural King. We made plans to meet up with Justin at his house sometime tomorrow to shoot the new gun plus the two older ones. When we got back, Ann & I watched the last couple episodes of season 2 of Home Before Dark. Not only is the acting good and the story good enough to keep you interested, but the soundtrack is equally good as well. When Abs came home, we made plans to enjoy a little porch time that evening before she jets off to a different continent next week. Matt enjoyed his final day at Z-West…well as the summer camp counselor anyhow. He will remain on-staff as the events coordinator and head wrestling coach. He did, however, have to turn down the football coach position – for now. He will begin his new job in a week. In the meantime, he has a temporary gig set up in Zionsville to get him some hours before he kicks right back into full time the following week. That evening, Ann ordered Papa John’s pizzas and we enjoyed some porch time on lovely evening. We got the Solo Stove and enjoyed a nice fire that evening. Abs played bartender that evening and had all her mixology skills going, mixing us a couple Sons of Glory cocktails with our new Redneck Riviera whiskey “Good Times Kit.??? It is John Rich’s whiskey that is a fundraiser for the Folds of Glory charity (for the families of lost or injured soldiers). We really enjoyed those – especially because we enjoyed them in the two mason jars that came with the kit! ???? After that, we had another Spicy Tamarin vodka shot with the glass rimmed in Tajin – yum! We followed that with a Bud Light Lime, a Busch Light Apple and then wrapped up the evening with a nightcap cocktail called the Jack Rose – an apple brandy cocktail. It put the perfect cap on the evening and was strong enough to send Abs and I to bed – lol. Ann, on the other hand, was wide awake and had to force herself to come to bed sometime after 2 am! We have a few social media pictures to share this week.

We enjoyed sleeping in on Saturday morning. Matt got up and went to Kings Island for a bachelor party (how cool is that?!). Abby & Luke got up with me to go visit Gma & Gigi. I loaded up old Betty White with the yard tools, grabbed the kids and headed across town to get some Dunkin and head over to Mom & Sandy’s house. The kids visited with the elders while I mowed the lawn that morning. Luke helped out by moving stuff in the yard for me. We came home and Luke continued helping me by mowing the backyard while I did the front and then fertilized and watered the shrubs. As a thank you, I took him to lunch. We had made plans with Justin to go out and shoot our guns at his house. Luke’s friend Blayne joined us for lunch and guns as well that afternoon. We had a blast out there, shooting on Justin’s gun range. He was very helpful with us and VERY patient as well! Luke & I shot all our guns plus Justin’s and Blayne’s as well. Justin wowed all of us by shooting our new handgun from the seat of his ATV, which was parked about a hundred yards away from the targets…and nailed it! Wow!! We chilled on his back porch afterward and debriefed over a couple beers with Amanda, his wife. I really wish we could spend more time with those guys because I really like them. We said our goodbyes and headed back home. The boys weren’t home long before they headed back out to run around and then grabbed dinner at ElRep. Meanwhile, the girls wound up going downtown to do some shopping on the square for a couple hours. When we got home, I cleared up space on my phone for about an hour and waited on Mom & Sandy to bring their dogs over a for a play date in the backyard. However, one of the dogs got sick and so they cancelled on us. Abby wanted to go back to the square for dinner and drinks. Ann and I were happy to oblige, spending as much time as we could before she heads over to Europe next week. So, we went to Carriage on the Square to order food then walked down three doors to the new Tree City Brewing Company. Well, it’s new to us; I think they opened sometime late last year or early this year. We weren’t sure if they were open because it looked like the lights were off. But I walked down to just to check and the sign said they were open. We walked in and saw that Erica (our friends’ daughter) was the bartender! We were the ones in the place, so Erica took very good care of us. ???? We sampled nearly all the beers; I think. We had a few different ones. Abs had one of their sour ales (they had two different ones) and one of their IPAs. I had the blonde ale and then had trouble deciding on another one (they were out of the two I really wanted to try) and wound up trying a black cherry / lime seltzer. It was my first seltzer, so I thought it was pretty good…but I don’t see what all the rage is about…damn Millennials… We ran into the Welages down there, who came in about 20 minutes after us. The Tebbes came in later, but we were already on our way out. We wound up grabbing a growler of beer, choosing a blend of the two sour ales because Abby liked it. Ann, who was still taking it slow on her belly and bowels, stayed away from the alcohol and just had their homemade root beer that was really good! Luke came back and had his friend, Samantha, over for a couple hours while we were gone. They didn’t stay but about 5 minutes when we got home before they were off to go to Grayson’s going away party in St. Paul. Abby went on to bed while Annie and I watched the weekly SVU marathon on Ion TV. A really weird thing happened that evening: a bunch of my electronic stuff all malfunctioned within like a 2-hour period: we went to take the Barneymobile to Justin & Amanda’s house but found it dead (we got it charged back up, but it was completely dead), the family room A/C compressor stopped working (we eventually got it working again, but we think it’s going out), my smart watch sent out an SOS to Ann twice and the LED turned completely black (I got it rebooted but it still only worked part of the time), my phone ran completely out of space so I made the decision to remove all the pictures from it (10.7 GB worth!), my wireless mouse batteries died (not a big deal, but just ironic that it would happen when everything else was screwing up!) and the DVR didn’t record a couple things that afternoon (including the road course race at Indy)… Ann said she thought I had some negative energy / juju going on! Let’s hope that is ends quickly… Here are a few pictures from recent additions to my Hot Wheels collection.

We enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday morning. We got up and did our weekly household chores. I ran to Needlers to get sausage, milk and biscuits for Ann to make us biscuits & gravy. Mom & Sandy brought the dogs over to play and we enjoyed some porch time and breakfast outdoors. Although the temps were much lower, the humidity was still kicking. In fact, it rained early that morning, which is why I slept so darned good. I got hot and came in to cool off in the living room and watch some racing from Indy. NBC again did a big Indy Car / NASCAR crossover from Indianapolis, featuring the trucks at IRP as well as the Xfinity cars, Indy cars and Cup cars on the road course at IMS. The trucks were at IRP, back on Friday night before. It was the first time the trucks have been there in a like a decade or so. For whatever reason, the DVR didn’t record the Xfinity race, but I was able to watch it on Peacock Premium thankfully. Luke came home after spending the night at Oakley’s house with Oak & Blayne. He took his pre-workout and then went to the Y with the guys to lift for a few hours. He came home long enough to help me move some furniture out to the garage (from Abby’s room – yes, Abby’s room was getting cleaned!) and then he went to Columbus with his buddies. Abby had Carli over for the day to help her clean (Carli is the reason Abby’s dorm room was halfway presentable the last couple years). I rearranged a few things in the garage to give us some room to store some of Ab’s things and actually came out of it with even more room even though we added stuff out there. Next, we watched the Brickyard 200 (the 400 / oval hasn’t been run since the whole tire issue a few years back). I actually like the road course…but must be in the minority because from the views I saw on TV – there weren’t many people in the stands, that’s for sure! ? Afterward, I put on the IndyCar race and Ann made cheesy Fireworks popcorn for dinner. I tried to put on a Shark Week show for Ann, since she put up with all the Brickyard races, but was sad when I realized that it had ended already. Instead, we started binge-watching a new series on Apple TV+ called Surface. Abby took Carli out to eat at Wings & Rings that evening before returning to do a little more room cleaning afterward. The boys came back from Columbus to hang out with us for a bit before going out to Ethan’s house for the night. We continued to watch another couple episodes of Surface before calling it a night. It was a relaxing way to wind down the weekend and a great way to wrap up another quick week, here at the Scheu abode.
Next up is our Waybac section which continues to feature pix from Deanna’s digital camera from the end of ’06 and 2007.
