OMG; Mother Nature can’t make up her mind! We had everything again this week – snow, frost, rain, thunderstorms, wind, flooding, and then also 65-degree temperatures today. It’s no wonder we’re all sick…and I mean that literally. I’m not sure what we’re sharing but we’ve all taken turns being sick as a dog this week. Luke missed a couple track practices due to it. Abby nearly missed a couple days of school due to it.. Ann took a day off, though it wasn’t really because she felt bad (though she did). And I missed a couple days of exercising because of it. Despite it all, we still had a quick, eventful and even fun week. Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
We started off the week with a cooler Monday but it was still nice enough for me to work the People Trail after work. Remember that nasty cough Ms. Ann had last week? …Well she has now passed that nasty condition on to the children…so I’m sure it will visit me soon as well. Our old Barney went in to the shop for a new starter that morning, so I got to drive Abby’s Tonya. Luke had track practice after school but coughed incessantly. Ann worked late so I ran Bu to jazz class at Dixon later that night.
Tuesday was cooler yet – but still warm enough for me to hit the trail again after work and was pretty so I took some photos of the sites I saw while I walked. We dropped off Black Betty for tires and brakes at Acra’s and drove Tonya again. Because of his nasty cough, Luke missed track practice after school. Ann cooked BBQ chicken and Abby had Jayden over for dinner and then hang out for a couple hours.

It rained overnight and all day on Wednesday, causing some local flash flooding on roads and made for interesting ride in to work. Ann had the day off to go to the dentist and then take Matt/Abby to the oral surgeon for wisdom teeth extraction prep. Luke rested all night, playing Xbox online with his buddy Oakley. Meanwhile Abby ended up not working so she went out on a date with Jayden until late. It was too cold and wet to walk so I hopped on the treadmill to get my exercise in.
We woke up to a cold, snowy Thursday morning – but just a dusting. Luke was coughing like he had croup. Abby isn’t much better plus she has some awful congestion. Britney came to Gma & Gigi’s after school with Bu and then over to our house for dinner. Later, Cody & Jayden joined the gals at home where Ann had pizza delivered for the kids. Luke was thrilled to have Jayden – and later Cody – play Xbox with him! Later Ann & Abs went to tap class at DDS while I got back on the treadmill. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week: Bu’s new ‘do; Abs w/ Pirateers; Abby and her friends; Steph; Haley & Leila; Missy & Mindy; Bry & Ang; more Bu solo & with BFFs; the Guards on the beach; the Boilers doing good; K-day cars; Calvin & Hobbes panel; a couple of great Dad shirts I need to get; more Abigail with her friends; Abby & the Pirateers again; Sharon; Dad & Lynn; Katie & Jake; Aunt Brenda w/ Wendy & Bethany; the Turtles’ shirt design; there is a new Pete’s Dragon coming(!); Justice Scalia; new Met merch and an old comp I recently re-discovered and enjoyed during my walks outside this week.

Friday was a bit warmer and was finally dry. It was a long day at work for both Ann & I. My team fixed our building where someone actually hit the facility with their vehicle! Abby went out with Jay again – this time they went to South Decatur for the Senior Night basketball game. Amy visited us for a while. I didn’t exercise because I felt like shit that night – thanks Annie…I went to bed so early that even I called myself lame.
Early to bed / early to rise…I was up early on Saturday morning – mostly because I was so congested and had trouble breathing through my c-pap. Either way it allowed me to get an early jump on my day where I ran a few errands, paid bills and did my weekly household chores. Abby was very excited as Ann took her to the BMV to get her license finally! However they returned far too early and were bummed. Seems the old grumpy lady at the BMV gave them wrong info and they ended up having to make an appointment (earlier they had been told to come in any time the shop was open). She’s waited this long, she can wait another week, I guess. Abby ended up going out to lunch with her dodgeball team and then participated in a big tourney at St. Mary’s. They ended up finishing 5th out of a couple dozen. She was the only girl on the team…but why am I not surprised by that? Mom & Sandy came over to visit for a while and told us the big news – they are buying a new house and moving soon. This is great news for them as the new house is on one level and has a garage – two things they sorely needed. We have mixed feelings about it – sure it’s great for them not to have to climb stairs and not worry about falling coming to/from their car) but we’ll miss that old house with so many wonderful memories. We’ve been associated with that house since I met Ann so there’s a lot of history there. For now, they’re going to rent it (maybe to Dee & Jamie – at least it will stay in the family?!) and we hope they don’t get rid of it. Later that night, Ann, Gigi and their bowling team (well, Bowl for Kids Sake team anyhow) went out to Parkside Lanes to practice for their big charity competition next weekend. I felt awful and went through a box of Kleenexes. I heard it was a beautiful day today; sorry I missed it… The true highlights of the day though were Abby washing the dogs (!) and Luke & I watching the big Purdue basketball game where they beat the #10 team in the nation!! The only downer from that is that IU now can lockup the Big Ten title with a win next week. We have lots of various fun pictures: Luke with Big Boy, Target dog, cool Chevy truck, at Ruby Tuesday’s, flying kites & the drone with Drew and being silly with Drew at Wally World; Abby & Ann visiting the Guards and Matt/Bu having dinner with Ann after oral surgery consults.

Sunday was gorgeous with temps soaring back up to the mid-sixties again. Abby and the Turtle Power played in their final volleyball games of the year – and quite possibly ever. This team has been together for several years and now the majority of the team is seniors, so they won’t be back. That leaves Abby & Kiersten to find a new team or simply retire. It’s doubtful that Coach Shawna will be back since her girls are graduating, so who knows… The year-end tourney was again held at the junior high school. We looked good, easily winning the first game in two straight sets. After a short break, they were back in action for the semi-final game. It was a great game that saw the first set go into overtime (loss), the 2nd set go down to the wire (win) and then the third and deciding set that was again super close, going back and forth before finally falling by three points and being knocked out of the tourney, falling one win short of the finals. It was disappointing but the girls took it well and had a sweet farewell ceremony with Shawna. Afterwards, Ann & I took the kids and Kiersten (the only other non-senior on the team) out for lunch at ElRep. Ann & I flopped on the couch for cat naps during the NASCAR races on our DVR. Luke continued to rest, playing Xbox in his room. And Abby went out with her guy friends to go cruisin’ in a topless jeep until dusk. We opened up the house again and although it was blustery (knocking the curtains down once), it felt great. Here we have pictures from last week’s volleyball game. We’ll have today’s pix in our next blog entry, though I’m sure they’ll make it to Facebook before then…

Next up is our Waybac section which continues to feature some classic moments of our young family. We lead off this week in Columbus where Matt was enjoying some soy formula…and likely puking on Mommy in March ’96; next we move to October ’96 where Memaw made him a Halloween costume along with a couple of other pictures of our smiley little guy in Columbus; then we move to Easter in April 1997 in Greensburg – look at how small that spruce tree is – It is taller than the house now!! Then we move on to Thanksgiving in November 1997 for a great picture of the Owens gals in G’burg as well as a couple great ones of Uncle Timmie & Aunt Dorothy at the same time in Lafayette (was this their 50th anniversary maybe?); then we have more Easter photos at our home in Greensburg but this was a year later – in April 1998; and finally we head up to Rossville on a beautiful day to fly a kite in Mom & Dad’s backyard with Uncle Vird, Rob and Matt snatching smooth from Katie in September 1998.

Next up is our video section which includes two new family home movies and a few from around the internet.
And that does it for this week’s episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya Mom.
