Done…I’m Done… and I’m on to The Next

It was a slower week, now with football done…and there is no next year this time. As that realization set in, Luke reconfirmed that he still has no intention to wrestle this year – unfortunately. Further, he says he wants to run track instead of playing baseball this spring. What a shame… Luke had school each day and worked out at the YMCA a lot. He didn’t feel the best this week, even going to see the doctor late in the week. He enjoyed spending time with his friends this week and letting his body heal up after a tough final game last week. Abby had a full week of classes in Franklin. She went to her final football game of the year, which the Grizzlies also lost. She enjoyed spending time with friends, sorority sisters and Mr. Will & the Sigs. Ann and Luke got to see her for a short while this week. Matt had a full week of work and began holding wrestling practices. When I touched base with him briefly this week, he was very excited to get back on the mat with the kids. Ann and I had good weeks at work. It was a little slower pace this week – slow but steady. Ann enjoyed spending time with friends a couple times this week. Although I surpassed my weekly exercise goal with nearly 20 miles of walking, my diet was horrendous. Both my BG levels and my waistline reflected that fact. Although we didn’t get the band of merry men together for a coaches meeting this week, I did enjoy several rounds of frisbee golf, playing 36 holes on the Greensburg course. The weather dipped down into near-winterlike conditions. It was clearly cold enough to snow! Once we saw our fourth straight hard frost during the overnight hours, we decided to close up the crawlspace and turn on the heat. Ya know, we try to hold out on turning on the heat until Thanksgiving each year (like we used to do at the ??? house), but never seem to make it… Hello and welcome to this week’s Scheu Family Blog.

It was back to work and school on a cold Monday morning. It wasn’t quite down to the freezing mark, but we let the Barneymobile warm up for about ten minutes that morning. Ann had a fast day at work, as did I. I no sooner got caught up on my weekend paperwork and it was time for our daily ops meeting. Afterward, I went out to lunch with the guys at Arni’s. The Senior salad wasn’t very good; in fact, it was disappointing. We’ve been saying that the last few visits, actually, which is sad. They again only had one waitress for the entire dining room and are still operating with limited hours, including closing the dining after like 3 pm each day and doing takeout only until close. I did some IT stuff in the afternoon and prepped some stuff for me to do my monthly inventory in the morning. I got out on time and walked three miles out in the cold, overcast afternoon. After Ann & I got back to town, we went to CVS to pickup a few things. We wound up talking with Gracie for a while before heading home. When we got home, we talked with Mr. Green for a while. By the time we got done, it was too late (and frankly, too cold) to go play frisbee golf that night. Instead, I came in and culled pictures from all my sources for this week’s blog entry. We had about 1400 pictures and videos this week, so there’s lots of stuff to go through. I did push back a bunch of videos for use in the coming weeks. Luke wasn’t feeling well this morning and wound up staying home. We pumped him full of meds and sent him back to bed. He got up later and felt well enough to go into school for a few hours. After school, he went to the football locker room for the final time to clean out his locker. To this day, I can still remember cleaning mine out after we lost in Sectional play. I remember the comradery, tears and heartbreak as we realized that after spending the last 8 years together – we would never do it again… Luke got everything cleaned out of his locker and car and brought it all home. He worked out at the YMCA that evening and got home late. I watched the NASCAR cup race while Ann read. Afterward, we watched SEAL Team and had leftovers for dinner. Once Luke got out of the shower, we did stats from Friday night’s game. Luke’s stat line was impressive. In fact, as I had mentioned in last week’s blog entry, it was one of his best games of his career. He ended the night with 18 tackles – 7 solo and 11 assisted, including a HUGE tackle for loss to force a punt and an even bigger TURNOVER on a forced fumble. He also played a handful of offensive plays with 3 rushes for zero yards (1, 0, -1) and a pancake. Here are pictures from Luke’s final football game vs. Lawrenceburg in the Sectional semi-final

We had to let the minivan warmup on Tuesday morning because the temps were in the 30s – boy, that didn’t take long! It never got very warm either – about 45 degrees was it. It was another fast day for Ann & I. Our kitchen staff celebrated another perfect inspection score from the Health Dept with lunch from Tasty’s Express (Chinese food) – their favorite. The boys help out in the kitchen when needed, so they were included in the celebration (as well as myself, since I’m the director!). ????I focused on monthly purchasing that day and got out on time to log a little over three miles that afternoon. I finally got back on the frisbee golf course when we got back to town. Seeing as it had been nearly a week and it was cold with a strong breeze, I decided to throw from the front tees and did fairly well – another 23. Ann had dinner ready when I got home – cheeseburger quesadillas…yum! Ahead of the forecasted hard freeze that night, I decided it was time to winterize the truck, so I drained all the water out of it and put antifreeze in her. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get her to start so I ran over to Mom & Sandy’s to get the battery charger. I talked briefly with them as well as dropped off my favorite sweatshirt to bet fixed (I hope) by Mom. Sandy let me borrow her SD card so I could pull off pictures from the past couple weeks. I got Betty White started and drover her around town for a while and gassed her up. I talked to Matt for about 20 minutes while working on the truck. He had a busy day with work as well as his first wrestling practice. He said he had a few less kids than were at the call-out meeting but still had almost 30 kids. He said it was tough recruiting this year with none of his coaching staff actually working in the junior high school this year. He was excited to get back on the mat – especially since his body is feeling better than the last couple years. Abby just keeps on racking in the accolades. Geez – what a year she’s had already! Today, she was officially asked to join the Order of Omega, which is a Greek honor society. ???? Way to go, Bu!! Luke wasn’t feeling the best again that morning and considered taking the day off. In the end, he went into school. Afterward, he lifted weights at the YMCA and then that evening he went to Columbus to eat at Chipotle with his buddies. It was downright cold in the house that night when we watched a couple DVR’d shows. We were both covered up with blankets and turned on the bed warmer early to make sure it was nice and toasty by the time we made it to bed. We both fell asleep watching TV. I woke up and edited pictures while watching game 6 of the World Series while Ann slept. It wound up being the final game of the MLB season as the Braves beat the Astros 4 games to 2 with a 7-0 butt-whooping. I watched the end of the game and all the post-game festivities before finally hitting the hay.

Wednesday was a pretty cold day. It started out in the mid-twenties and only got up into the 40s – brrr! I spent the day working on finance stuff mostly. The guys and I went to Snappy Tomato for lunch, which helped breakup the day nicely. Luke wasn’t feeling the greatest. He threw-up before school but that actually made him feel better, so he went on in and had a good day. He went to the YMCA that afternoon to work out and then came home to hang out with me for a few before heading on to bed. Ann had a fast day at work. I logged a 5K after work on another chilly but sunny afternoon. There was a stiff breeze that evening that was still there when we got home and I ran out to the frisbee golf course. I threw from the front tees again due to the wind as well as being on a time crunch. I had just enough time to hustle through a round from the short tees and managed to shoot a 22 (5-under). My putting game was spot-on as I nailed a birdie on 6 – a first for me! I ran Annie out to Mancino’s for dinner with her friends on a girl’s night out. Luke & I had a find-your-own dinner and watched a little TV. It was pretty cold in the house that evening – even I had to go put on a sweatshirt and use a blanket. When Ann got home, we watched a couple DVR’d shows while I edited pictures and wound up falling asleep on the couch (big surprise). I went on to bed early while Ann stayed up and promptly fell asleep in her chair and didn’t come back until 2 in the morning… Here are some random pictures from our recent adventures.

It was cold in the house when I got up on Thursday morning. I used the bed warmer again overnight and it was a rude awakening getting out from under those covers! I even ran the heater in the bathroom to defrost…but we still haven’t turned on the heat! I’m hoping to go until Thanksgiving, but we’ll see about that… It was another fast day for both Ann & I that day. Abby came down after she got off work and brought Will with her. She got her flu shot and picked up her birth certificate from Ms. Ann then did some shopping before leaving town and heading back to campus. The guys and I went to El Nepal for lunch. I again had the three Mexican-style tacos (1 each pork, chicken and steak). I was so impressed with the amount of meat in them – about double that of even El Reparo. I ate way too much but was able to take it easy that afternoon – finishing up the facility’s monthly purchasing, processing all the POs and then worked on filing both hard copies and scanning / filing all my electronic records before calling it a week at the office. I got out a little bit late and didn’t quite get three miles logged on a gorgeous afternoon. There were some cool planes and helicopters at the airport that day. Luke was home when we got there – he had come home from school and took a nap. So, I ran out to the park to play another quick game of disc golf. I was supposed to help Luke move some furniture, so again I didn’t warm up (like yesterday) and threw from the front tees. I was in and out in 20 minutes. I had a chance at another 22 score but my final putt on 9 went in and out so I had to settle for a 23. But by the time I got back, Luke had gotten up and left to pickup Cayden and go workout at the Y. Afterward, he went grocery shopping as he is now on a health food kick (good for you, kiddo). Matt had wrestling practice again that evening and said he had nearly 30 young grapplers. He was thrilled with the turnout! Ann made Fireworks popcorn for dinner and we watched a couple DVR’d shows before flipping on the Colts game. She & I are playing each other in fantasy football again this week and we both had players going that night. Indy dominated the Jets, blowing them out before the 3rd quarter even ended. Our weekly card game / coaches meeting was cancelled – a bye week, we called it – as we had guys either busy or sick. So, we’ll try again next week. That gave me time to work on editing down the 1K+ football pictures from Luke’s final football game. ?

Friday was yet another cold but sunny day. With temps starting in the 20s again, we had to use the defrost on Black Betty before we could run Ann to work that morning. We hit the Dunkin drive thru before dropping her off at the downtown office. I came back and worked from home that morning. I was able to complete all my pre-inventory paperwork which is due next week – ahead of that annual joy I get to experience soon. After picking up Ann, I got all my other paperwork and weekly tasks caught up and began my monthly reports. It was so cold in the house that day. I even had a sweatshirt and a blanket but couldn’t get warm. Ann was covered completely in her comforter as she napped on the couch. She would eventually turn the heat on in the house, later that afternoon. I began editing pictures again as we watched several DVR’d shows that afternoon and evening. Luke came home from school, worked out at the Y then went to the girls’ basketball game at Jac-Cen-Del with Oakley & Brayden that night. Ann & I ordered Koch’s for dinner and had them deliver it so we didn’t have to go out. We took it easy that night with the dogs, finishing off our stash of ice cream from Carriage on the Square and went to bed fairly early. We followed the Sectional final game as Lawrenceburg moved on to Regionals after defeating Brownstown Central…man, I miss watching Luke on Friday nights… In honor of the first Friday, post-high school football, I have compiled Luke’s senior season-ending football stats: He played in 7 games (well, parts of 8). The team was 4-3 with Luke in the starting lineup, with those 3 losses being single-possession losses. On defense, he logged 107 tackles (averaging over 15 per game) with 53 solos and 54 assisted tackles with 10 tackles for loss. He also had 9 QB hurries, forced 4 fumbles (!), recovered both a fumble as well as a blocked punt and defended (knocked down) 4 passes. On offense, he had 6 pancakes and 10 de-cleaters, he ran the ball 21 times for 97 yards (4.5 yds/carry), scoring a pair of touchdowns (12 points). Overall, all-purpose yards: 112. Luke had a minor ankle injury, leaving the game for two plays while knocking out 6 players on the other teams. He had 3 penalties for 35 yards and an ejection (UC, RTK, FM). He was the defensive captain, a quad-captain that represented the team at the coin toss each game and was one of the two pirate flag-bearers in all but 2 games. What a senior year…just imagine what might have been if he had played in the other 4 games… We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

The dogs were ready to be up and outside before the sun rose on Saturday morning. I was hoping to get an early start to my yardwork, but the lawn was frozen. So, I continued working on this week’s pictures, finishing up editing and then renamed them all. I knocked them down to a little over 400, but 2/3 of them are from Luke’s final football game. Ann went out with Amy to go shopping that day. Luke got cleaned-up and drove up to Franklin to see Abby and go to the tailgating and football game on Senior Day. It finally began to warm up and thaw out shortly before noon, so I got dressed and got started outdoors. I loaded up Betty White but she wouldn’t start. So, I hooked her up to the battery charger and mowed the backyard real quick. I stopped by the gas station on my way to Mom & Sandy’s house to get fuel for the yard tools, paying over $4 for premium (something I’ve run in my equipment for a couple years now). I mowed and trimmed at their house before Mom scared the hell out of me. I was focused on trimming and wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings. She reached out and knocked my hat off and I about shit my pants! They had just gotten back from the store and invited me to come in when I finished. When I did, they had lunch ready from Wendy’s – yum! We sat and chatted while we ate. It was good to catch up with them for a little while. I put Sandy’s battery cover back on the Ford and ran a couple errands before heading home. I mowed the front and then trimmed everything for the first time in a few weeks. Afterward, I went out to the city park and enjoyed a slow, quiet game of frisbee golf. For the first time this week, I threw from the back tees. There was a slight breeze, but I was able to adjust to it pretty easily. I actually threw very, very well that day. Although my score of 25 didn’t reflect it, it was some of the best throws I’ve had all year. I came home and had an early dinner before settling in on the couch with the dogs to watch the Purdue football game. The Boilers took on Michigan St., who was ranked #3 in the nation. For most of the 1st half, the Boilers could do no wrong. But just before the half, the Spartans got the momentum and after a turnover on the Boilers 1st possession of the 2nd half, the Spartans had come all the way back to tie the ball game. After a key defensive player was ejected, the Boilers again took control of the game and never looked back, knocking off their second top-five team this year! I believe that makes them bowl-eligible now?! The students rushed the field – it was a pretty cool scene… While watching the game, I did Luke’s senior season stats (listed above). Here are pictures of recent additions to my Hot Wheels collection. When Ann came home, she showed me all her new treasures. Luke wound up coming home that night after getting bored after the game. He had planned to go see Matt, but they weren’t able to work out plans so he slept in his own bed that night…

We gained an extra hour overnight as we “fell back??? when DST ended. We changed all the clocks that morning as Ann made breakfast. There are fewer things I enjoy more than the smell of biscuits and gravy on a Sunday morning. I did the weekly household chores that morning and got everything done in the morning so I could enjoy football all afternoon. Abby and the Pi Phis facilitated their annual Color Run. I enjoyed seeing some pictures she sent to Ann of her covered in color. ???? Ann & I watched some pregame shows to put some finishing touches on our fantasy football teams as we faced each other for the second time this year. As we watched RedZone, we both napped…is there anything better than napping to a football game? While we slept, Luke loaded up the truck and went to mow his two yards for what could be the last time this season. I set up a little workstation on the back porch for Ann and she painted a couple of her decorations. Luke went to the Y to lift weights that evening. As the sun was setting at 6 pm, Ann made cheesy Fireworks popcorn for dinner – mine with that wonderful spicy oil…yum! We watched the late games on RedZone and eagerly awaited the season premiere of Yellowstone that night on Paramount. I wound up whooping Ann’s tail and now have bragging rights for now. Yellowstone didn’t disappoint…except for all the damn commercials! I finally had some time to check in some of my new Hot Wheels from the last month. It was a relaxing way to wind down the weekend and a great way to put the kibosh on another week before we start it all again in the morning…
