Kiss me Baby…on an Easter Sunday day

It was another rollercoaster ride week. From the weather to family to sports, we’ve seen it all this week. The Reds got off to a rocky start and ended the week under .500. The Pacers made the playoffs but dropped the 1st game of their post season. NASCAR had the week off for Easter which meant Jeff lead the points race for at least another week. Uncle Dan made a miraculous recovery and Keith & Rosie came in to town from New York. The flowers and trees are starting to bloom and I saw the first cardinal of the year.
Monday started off mild, in the 60s but grew colder as the day progressed. Abby had a track meet, hosting Franklin County. By the time the meet started, it was too cold and rainy to do much of anything. Abby didn’t place in the long jump and complained of her back hurting again. The high jump was deemed to dangerously slick to compete, so it was mercifully cancelled and Ann & I were allowed to move to higher ground and a warmer environment. The girls went on to dance class. Matt went out with Andy and it snowed overnight. We start, as promised last week, with pictures and videos (see below) of Abby’s dance competition in Indianapolis, called Star Systems.

We woke Tuesday to snow-covered vehicles and lawns. Thankfully, the roads were clear, but it was obviously even colder. We had snow showers on and off most of the day. It only got in to the 40s. Abby had Student Council and Memaw ran our trimmer out to Herbert’s to replace the carburetor and throttle arm. We picked it up that evening, but it was much too chilly to mow. Bryan moved our baseball practice indoors due to the lovely weather and extended the time from and hour to almost 2 ½ to really work on throwing and catching and even got in some batting practice. Abby missed track due to a doctor appointment with Fangman for her back. She has some exercises to do as well as icing and heating and some physical therapy, which will start next week.
Wednesday started off cool but warmed up nicely again. Abby went from track to softball. Luke & I mowed Mom & Sandy’s house. Ann & Shawna had their weekly After-Prom meeting and Matt pretty much napped all evening. We have a few new social media pictures to share this week, including Abby with Megan; Abby with Kama; Uncle Dan back home with Katie (what a great picture!); Barney & Steph; Conner, who started working at Bob Rohrman; Doc’s epitaph from LFD; our good buddies Bryan & Angie at a function in Columbus; Danny “Feather” and fiancé at Hoover Damn; Allen, Frankie and Taylor at dance competition; our Slicer baseball team in 1985-ish; and a few Calvin & Hobbes panels.

Bryan ran Luke to baseball practice for us as we joined Abby in Waldron for her track meet. She competed in the high jump and long jump. She did not place in either and continued to complain about back pain. We were allowed to leave the event early to dash up to Greenfield for Abby’s softball tourney games. We made great time on the way up and got there during the 2nd inning. But for whatever reason, Abby did not play (guess we could’ve taken our time, huh?). We lost 4-2 to the host Red Storm. Immediately afterwards, we moved to the nicer ball diamond and played Edgewood where Abby batted last (2nd leadoff hitter!) – going 0-2 – and played right field (saved a run by charging a dribbler and came up firing!). We ended the game, tied 4-4. It was pretty late when we made our way home, but were starving, so we popped in to Culver’s for dinner. Meanwhile Matt got Luke and they went to Mom & Sandy’s for dinner where Keith & Rosie were in town for Easter.

Dee & Jamie moved to Cincy on Friday morning. We are happy for them, but sad they are moving out of town. Abby had track and I worked a little late. We all met up at Memaw & Gigi’s for dinner. We had sandwiches and homemade macaroni & cheese (she makes the best!). We visited for a little while and then Ann went out to work on After-Prom props and Luke & I mowed the backyard at home before it got too dark.
Saturday was a busy day. We were up early to head back up to Greenfield for the Easter Classic softball tourney. Abby and her new U14 Xtreme team played in a U12 tourney, just to get the juices flowing. It was their first tourney together as a new team and they looked pretty good. We first faced the Franklin Fury where we won 11-5. Next, we faced the host Red Storm again. We weren’t quite ready to play back-to-back games and were blown out 1-11. We turned right around and played in our 3rd straight game vs. our own 12U teammates and won 14-4. And finally, we played yet again without a break and lost for a 3rd time to the darned Red Storm 8-9 to take home 3rd place. …Not too bad for a brand new team and the first tourney of the year. We came back and had Easter dinner at Mom & Gigi’s. It was a little different this year, as we had Pizza King pies and homemade pasta salad before we went outside for the annual Easter egg hunt in their yard. By the time we got back home, we all were pooped and took naps on the couches.
Sunday was Easter and what a gorgeous day it was…sunny and warm all day. The kids were up early and hunted their Easter baskets (pictures and video next week!) Keith & Rosie left early to head back to Buffalo. Dad texted me and said they were taking Uncle Dan home! What outstanding news that was, considering where he was just a week ago! It was an otherwise slow, easy day. We did our weekly household chores and the kids had friends over and played around the house; we watched movies and took naps. We did not have our normal Easter dinner because Dee was in Cincy and Keith was on his way to New York. So Ann made a new dinner of chicken and pasta. I forget the name, but everyone (but Abby) ate it. In the early evening, Luke, Bu and I helped Gma move an old couch out of the back house for big trash day tomorrow.

We have an entry for the Shit that Luke Says…but it was actually Abby who passed gas on Thursday night and then exclaimed, “Mom! You should’ve heard my fart…it sounded like an elephant!!” Needless to say, she’s cut off from future Culver’s cheese curds…

Our final section is our video section, which includes two new family videos and several from around the web…

And that does it for this week’s episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this week and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom!
Later, Scheu
