We enjoyed another fast week at the Scheu abode. It was another relaxing week and one that was one of the most enjoyable ones in recent months. We saw a change in seasons, the remnants of a hurricane, significant sporting events, spent time with friends and family and hit some special milestones.
Monday was hot & humid. We cleaned out the garage at work with my crew in preparation of a huge shipment of furniture expected in the coming days. I took the boys out to lunch at Arni’s as thanks for their hard work. Luke had baseball practice at Kohler that night. I got back on the treadmill and of all things, there was a black bear found in LaPorte County that day! And the Chicago Blackhawks won their 3rd NHS Stanley Cup in 6 years.
Tuesday was again hot with extreme mugginess. Good bless the man who invented air conditioning. Abby had Pirateers practice. Ann drove the Jeep for the final time as we finally got the Pacifica back that night. She was glad to get her car back, but I actually enjoyed driving that Jeep and will remember that in the future when I finally upgrade my own vehicle. Luke & I mowed the front yard and then went to the back lot and practiced pitching. I again limited his pitch count to 60-70 pitches. Ann made chicken on the grill and put it in a salad that was really good. Matt worked out with the football team after work. Bu & I played Baseball Stars where she won a shootout, 19-18 before we joined Ann to watch the Rizzoli & Isles season 6 premier. Afterwards she went out on a date with Noah while Ann napped and Matt & I watched LeBron & his Cavs lose the NBA Finals to the Warriors.
Wednesday was rainy all day. Luke & I worked on his mower. Ann had a girls’ night out with Angie and their friends. Matt had his friends over that night. Abby went to the movies with Noah later that night where they saw Jurassic World. We have lots of new social media pictures to share this week: Mom O on the pot; Bu & Emma; Kimmy & Lynz; Conner, Rosie was in Indiana recently, Jeff’s new paint scheme, Jimmy held a release party for the upcoming Zep catalog releases, Gracie’s new album is dropping soon, LeBron hit the 5K mark in playoff points, Rush is back on the road and finally made it on the cover of the Rolling Stone (hopefully Bryan & I can get out to see them since it may be their last), Stacy and her kids, I’m out of hot sauce at work (sad), Macca the bday boy, A Rod reached 3K hits in style by hitting a homer!, Hot Wheels is out on the road and I can hardly wait to see what they have the Children’s Museum this coming week with Lukey, Matt and buddies and Gma at the benefit dinner this week.
Thursday was actually a nice day until we got home, where it began storming as we got back in to town from work like it had done yesterday. So I hopped on the treadmill again. Abby had Pirateers again and Matt again worked hard all day, worked out with the football team afterwards and then came home to get cleaned up and went out to dinner at El Reparo with his buddies. Ahh…to be young again! It was Paul McCartney’s 73rd birthday.
Ann went out with Mom & Sandy to a benefit dinner at the K of C on Friday. Abby went out to the movies again with Noah (they saw the same movie again). Luke & I mowed the back yard before he had Grayson over to spend the night. We had Pizza Hut deliver dinner as the boys ran around the house and neighborhood. Meanwhile, I started scanning photo albums of our young family. I only got a couple done and have a long way to go.
Luke & Grayson played outside all day on Saturday. I was a gorgeous day that was hot and sunny. They spent the day playing air-soft guns, riding bikes around the neighborhood, playing baseball in the back lot and running through the sprinkler and getting muddy in the back yard. Matt went out to grad parties for a few hours. Ann’s good friend and college roommate Stacy and her daughter Darby were in town to spend the night. We all went out to dinner and got stuffed at El Reparo and then spent some quality back porch time with them until after midnight.
Sunday was the first day of summer. It was another gorgeous day. It was also Father’s Day and we held Luke’s 11th birthday party. Sadly, only Memaw & Gigi were able to attend this year. Ann made breakfast sandwiches before the Stacy & Darby had to hit the road. I talked to Dad B and then Barb (Dad S was on the golf course, but I got a hold of him later). The kids & I did our weekly household chores before Mom & Sandy came over for cake & ice cream and Luke opened his presents. He got a pair of RC cars that we played with until the batteries died. He also had a scavenger hunt that looked at some of his favorite things and special moments from the past decade. The hunt eventually led him to a new iPhone! He really seemed to enjoy the day and smiled more than he had in a long time. Ann made a delicious lasagna dish for dinner and she and the kids got me a new sander (our old one bit the dust last weekend) and shorts. We laughed so much this weekend, the muscles in my jaw actually hurt as I type this entry tonight. What a great week it was and today was just the proverbial icing on the cake…
Next up is our Waybac section which features the new scans I’ve been working on this weekend. I’m through seven of the eighteen photo albums. I have a couple thousand new pictures already. The albums feature the early years of our young family. I’m up to December of 1998. This time we start out in this week in March of 1996 with Matt’s birth with Mommy & Daddy at CRH; then on to August of ’96 when he’s about 6 months old at our first home – the townhouse in Columbus which includes a picture of Mom; then March of ’97 for Matt’s 1st birthday with Mom, Ann, Gma & Gigi with the birthday boy at Matt’s first home; then October ’97 at our home on Main St in G’burg and then at Matt’s first circus in Indy; next in March ’98 with Matt & I on the swing set when first got it and had it in the back yard on Main St, then one of his many “Messy Marvin??? moments and then he & I getting haircuts in our kitchen with Aunt Dee; and finally July of 1998 with Ann & Matt on the swing set (now in the side yard), Matt & I hanging out in the rocking chairs in the living room of Matt’s second home; and finally with his “Memaw??? overnight bag. :0)
Our final segment as always is our videos. This week, we feature one new family movie and several from around the internet.
Well that does it for this week’s installment of the Scheu Family Blog. As always, thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom.
