Just when we thought Spring had finally returned (geese flying north; ducks blocking the road by the park’s pond; baseball diamonds full of activity, ice cream shop open at the park)…we get a frost warning and have to close up the house again. We nearly turned the heat on this weekend. But it won’t be long until the pool opens since Luke is finally playing baseball games, Abby is gearing up for her end-of-the-season dance recital and Matt is looking for a summer job – all signs that . Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
Monday was just a nasty, cold & wet day. Luke left school sick. Ann took a half day and I had the day off. Ann & I took Matt to his appointment uptown and it went very well. Abby joined Luke & Ann in taking a long nap when she got home from school. Later, Luke & I created fliers for his newest venture – mowing lawns this summer. Afterwards, Matt took him around the neighborhood to stuff mailboxes. Ann & Abby went to Dixon Dance for jazz class then they dropped off Tonya at Don Meyer to get her squeaker removed. Here are some pictures from our recent adventures: Cinco de Mayo shirt; Mother’s Day dinner pictures – dinner at BW&R, boys in the back of Tonya, Mom eating dessert at lunch, Gigi’s flowers, and the Fat Tin Man; After Prom ticket; Omelet Day; Opening Day for baseball; Week 19 was this week; Luke’s flier; workout at the Y; and beautiful Bu prepping for the gala…

Tuesday was a little rainy again. The threat of storms loomed all afternoon and in to the evening. I went in to work early for our annual Omelet Day as part of Hospital Week. Dennis, Philip & I made 40 omelets for the staff in two hours. We were pretty tired by the time we got it all cleaned up and had a chance to sit down and eat ourselves. After work, I had to cut my walk short so I could get back to town and check out which diamonds were available for baseball practice that night. Our scheduled diamond was under water, our back up was a mod bog but we found a good one out at the complex. Abby had Britney & her beau over for dinner. Ann cooked pork chops on the grill and made baked parmesan potatoes and corn on the cob – YUM! Luke & I joined Bryan & Drew for practice. Matt learned that head made the A/B honor roll for the first time at college! Way to go, Bub! He ate dinner with us then went out with his buddies until late. We have a ton of new social media pictures to share this week: Abby with her friends; Aunt Sharon B – solo & w/ Katie; Bailey w/ beau; Cathy; Chris w/ Aunt Sally; Aunt Sharon M w/ fam; Tam & fam; Aunt June & Lynz; view from the Sand Pebble this week; Seth at graduation; more Aunt Sharon B; Wendy & Bethany; Angie & Sharon; Trish & boys; the Guards; Seth & Nick graduated from college; Tam again; Guard gals; very proud of our Angie running the Indy Mini Marathon; my lovely ladies; Gracie; Scheumanns on the BSU campus; Star Wars Day; Megan’s performance; Steph and Haley; Monica; Calvin & Hobbes Sunday panels; Shawna’s daughter made the paper this week; and I have a new favorite shirt…

Wednesday was a much warmer but humid day. Ann & I shared a ride to work for the first time since her surgery. Although she had planned to work a full day, she got pretty tired and we ended up leaving early. She came home and took a long nap. Meanwhile, Luke & I had baseball practice where we focused on hitting. Bryan got stuck at work, so I held down the fort. We worked on bunting and signals as well. Abby worked at the dance studio after work then we picked up Tonya. She went out for a while with her buddy Regan then grabbed Cody to come home and study for a big test. Matt worked on finding a job for the summer and thinks he has a good lead at a healthcare facility. He also worked out at the Y again.
Abby had a busy day on Thursday. She headed in early for Pirateers practice that morning then she had Cody over after school to study before going with Ann & Matt to the ball diamonds to watch opening night for Luke & the Marlins. It rained a little during the game, but the kids and coaches were thrilled to finally be playing. A little rain wasn’t going to ruin it for us! Matt joined us in dugout when girls left the game for tap class at Dixon Dance. Luke 1st ball game was against the Pirates. A team they’ll get to know very well this year, since there are only three teams in the league this year. Luke went 0-0 from the plate with a pair of walks (I think he saw one strike in nine pitches). He stole 4 bases and scored 2 runs. He played 1st base and picked off a runner with the old hidden ball trick! Later he played shortstop. With runners on 1st and 3rd, the Pirates attempted to pull off a delayed double steal to try and get a run across. But Bryan called an audible, expecting this move. As the catcher threw to 2nd, Luke cut in from short, intercepted the ball and ran down the lead runner in a pickle! Drew was outstanding on the mound and we won easily, 11-0, calling off the dogs in the final inning instead of running up the score. After the game, the coaches thanked us for that decision. Luke was at the plate when the game was called and was a little mad that he didn’t have a chance to get a hit in this game. I took the boys through drive through for a quick dinner and we came home and showered. Our clothes were so wet and smelly!

Friday was a lovely, sunny day. Abby left school early for an appointment then went out shopping with Matt & Ann at the Greenwood Park Mall. They got some new clothes and ate at one of our favorite places – Cheesecake Factory! Luke went over to Gma & Gigi’s after school then we went to the YMCA for batting cage work while I hit the walking trail. Afterwards, we ran errands and then grabbed takeout dinner and watched movies at home on a quiet night.
Saturday was again cold and damp. Abby was up early and gone to Megan’s house for the weekend. She & Megan attended the big Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Gala in downtown Indy with Julie and John. Luke & I got up and mowed the yard. Last week we mowed in the rain and this week, I’m pretty sure it should’ve snowed. It was so cold we could see our breath at times. The wind was piercing and Luke even had to stop at one point and go put on his winter coat! It drained us pretty good. We came in for lunch and everyone in the house took naps on and off all afternoon & evening. Luke was grounded to his room all weekend after getting in trouble in school this week. Later that night, we pulled in Ann’s (still) unplanned flowers and put them in the garage due to the frost warning overnight.

We finally enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday morning. We were pretty lazy all day as we slowly got up and did our weekly household chores. I think I saw the sun pop out a couple times, but it was still very cool and breezy again today. We snuggled up with blankets on the couches and watched TV until about mid afternoon when it finally started to warm up. The kids helped Ann plant her flowers from last week and then she made a big dinner with chicken on the grill, cheesy potatoes and fresh corn. I was so thankful we weren’t out sitting at some ball park, watching a travel baseball game…so glad to have our weekends back. It was a very relaxing day and a truly great way to wind down another busy week.
Next up is our Waybac section which still features pix from our first half dozen photo albums of our young family and some goodies we found while moving Memaw. And that does it for this installment of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss you Mom…
