Man was it a hot week, here in south-central Indiana. Hot AND humid was the main dish all week. When the sun was behind the clouds, it was better but boy when it was full sun; it would make me pour sweat just standing still. Matt worked all week. Luke started football. Abby worked less due to having Pirateers, soccer and signing up for two competitive dances at Dixon Studio. Ann struggled with her knees, icing them every night while I continued to push myself with exercising. This week, I topped the 16 mile threshold for the first time. Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
Black Betty returned to the shop on a stormy Monday morning. Abby had to give up Tonya for the day but got to drive Betty White. I walked to Ann’s office after work. Abby had a really busy day – up early to Pirateers then ran Megan home after spending the night with us last night. She also had to work at BW&R that afternoon before heading over to soccer that evening. Matt worked at the nursing home. Luke had football practice. Luke & I went out to Bryan & Drew’s after practice. We had a couple brews and ended up at Skyline for dinner. Luke spent night with Drew. Megan spent the night with Abby again after they were out till midnight, running around.
Abby was up early again for Pirateers. She ran around all day with Megan before heading out to soccer. Luke & Drew had football practice. Bryan & I sat across the creek by Ally & Shawn’s house in the back of Betty White in bag chairs with a iced down cooler of beverages. It was great… Matt had a little drama at work. Ann went out with Shawna. I walked 4 miles after work, continuing to train for next month’s 5K, out by the Messer compound. Matt & I picked up Black Betty from the shop. And Megan spent the night with Abby again.
It was anther hot one on Wednesday. Abby endured a grueling soccer practice in the heat. Matt enjoyed having a job that did not have him out in the heat. Ann worked at her G’burg office. I came home early to get her and take Black Betty back to Acra’s to see what that horrible noise is that it suddenly acquired. Luke & I exercised on the 5K trail at the high school on a very humid evening. We went from Rebekah Park to Matt’s work. Luke dug out his BMX and we got it working so he could ride it on the track while I walked. He broke his chain so we bought a new one at Walmart and then picked up Pizza Hut for dinner. Luke had his buddies over at dusk to play kickball in the back lot. Mary & Regan spent the night with Abby. Luke was in the newspaper for Honor Roll. Here are several miscellaneous pictures from this week.
Thursday was sure a hot day as temps rose in to the nineties. Abby had Pirateers that morning. Luke had football practice but was moved inside due to the heat. Matt worked. Acra’s got Black Betty straightened out and is running great…for now. I walked to Dennis’ house after work, drove home in Betty White, got Luke’s drone off the roof when we got home then tried to fix his bike chain…but by that time I was so overheated that I was shaking and dripping sweat in my eyes so badly I couldn’t see straight. So I came inside to get a drink and cool down. I ran Luke to practice, ran to the supermarket for Ann (who made tuna salad) and grabbed a cold shower and a sandwich…and that finally did the trick for me. We watched the season finale of Bones (only one season left) as Abby went out with Baker & friends to see the Jason Aldean concert at Deer Creek.
Friday was another hot/humid day. I walked 5K after work but it felt more like a half marathon. Matt worked again at Aspen. Abby, Brittney & Ann went to lunch and ran errands. Matt & Abby had dental appointments. The girls went shopping. Luke went to the Messers to spend the night. The girls helped Ann make dinner before going out with boys for the night. We upgraded the desk PC to Win10. We had tried 10 previously but rolled back to 7 due to a 3rd party software program not working. I use gSyncIt to sync all my Outlook calendars with my Google calendar on my phone. Fortunately I found a new program that will do the same thing and works with Win10. Remember, if you have Windows 7 or 8, you have only a few days left to upgrade for free…
It was very hot again and super humid on Saturday. Luke & Bu had haircuts with Jami. Matt enjoyed a day off. He got the oil changed in Bebe. Abby went out with Mary, running around then came back and started packing for dance camp next week at Great Wolf Lodge. I did my weekly household chores, PM’ed the vehicles, and mowed & trimmed the lawn. I spent the rest of the day trying to stay cool and get caught up on my DVR’ed shows and watch the action at the Brickyard. Meanwhile Ann, Bu & Mary went to Noah’s grad party. The girls brought Ann home then went right back out. I swear she’s like the Energizer Bunny! That evening, I upgraded my laptop to Win10 and wrote this blog entry. The girls got home late after going to the movies with their guy friends and Mary spent the night with Bu. We have lots of new social media pictures to share this week: Bu with Megan & Kenzie at the fair; Abby with Emma & Kama; Bu & Cody; Abs & Mary; Grace in Italy; Bryan & Ang in Italy & Spain; Wendy & Bethany; Miles made it home; Katie & Jake; the FC Wellhouse; more Drakes; Hellmich gals; and Jeff’s return to the Brickyard.
We enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday morning. We slowly got going and Ann made a big lunch for us. Afterwards we went over to Mom & Sandy’s for Gigi’s birthday party. We came home and watched the Brickyard 400. I was shocked to see how many empty seats there were! My how things have changed since the last time I was there for this race. Jeff Gordon was back, filling in for Dale Earnhardt Jr. In fact, he may race next week for him as well. It was Tony Stewart’s final Brickyard as well, so this was a pretty special race for me. My favorite contemporary baseball player, Ken Griffey, Jr, was inducted in to the MLB Hall of Fame today…man, I’m old. It was so hot outside that the A/C struggled to keep up. We drifted in and out of naps and planned to go to Bryan & Angie’s house later for a cookout / Welcome Home party for Miles. We’ll have pictures / videos of today next week.
Our next segment is our Waybac feature, where we continue to wrap up the final few pictures from our first six photo albums of our young family, just starting out in the nineties as well as a more from the goodies culled during Mom’s move and Dee’s storage locker. We lead off this week in the ‘70s for Ann in ’72, Keith & Ann in ’76 and Ann in ’77; then a couple more WTRE pics from ’93; then on to Matthew’s first Christmas in Columbus with Grandma & Grandpa Bryan and Mike & Laura in December ’96; then Matt hanging with my work buddy Tony, Matt’s first BFF Brayton, and then having dinner with Daddy – all in Columbus during February ’97; next we go north to Lafayette…well actually Buck Creek…to find Matt hanging with Granny at Dad & Barb’s cabin in July ’97; then we go slightly to the east to Rossville where we see Matt playing with Mom and Robby at their new house on the hill in August ’97; then we head way out east to East Aurora in upstate NY to visit Keith & Rosie in July ’98, including our visit to the Fisher Price factory & museum, the cool 4th of July floats at the FP factory and our visit to the Hard Rock Café at Niagara Falls; and then we have Grace’s birth announcement in 2000, Gracie’s Christmas pic in 2003, Luke’s birth announcement in 2004; Abby at Grace’s bday party at Build A Bear in Indy in July, 2004; Abby’s first Dixon Dance picture (and pose that she would use many more times) in May, 2004; Gma & Gigi with Megan, Grace in her Halloween costume and Gracie hanging with Chad – all in 2004.
And finally we have our video segment, which includes two new family movies this week as well as a bunch from around the internet.
Well that brings about the end of the Scheu Family Blog once again. As always, thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya Mom.
Later, Scheu
