Another week has sped past us already. Summer is very quickly winding down. Luke enjoyed a week off but football starts next week. Abby was busy as ever with soccer, Pirateers and work…and dance is right around the corner. Matt worked as often as possible. Ann continued to heal and I ramped up my daily exercises as I began training for our net 5K – the St. Mary’s annual On Eagles Wings walk/run event. Hello again and welcome back to the latest installment of the Scheu Family Blog.
Monday was just a beautiful summer day – it was hot but the humidity was obviously lower. It was back to work for Ann, Matt, Abby & I. Only Luke got to take the day off…lucky dog. I walked 3 miles after work on the People Trail. Abby had Pirateers before she went to work. Luke went to the fair with Oakley then spent the night at his house.
Tuesday was a busy day. Ann, Matt & I had to work. I hit the walking trail again after work and got an hour in before I had to pick up Ann. Abby had soccer practice then went to the fair with Megan & Kenzie. Luke had Drew over then they went to Mom & Sandy’s to catch Pokémon before heading back out to the fair. Megan, Kenzie & Drew all spent the night with the kids. Keith & Rosie came in town that day to visit Mom & Sandy and spent the week with them. I enjoyed talking to Dad & Lynn that evening. They will be making a guest appearance at the end of the month on their way back to the east coast. As promised, here are pictures from last weekend’s Fair Parade down Park Rd…
Wednesday was a hot / humid day – 105 on the heat index, but that didn’t slow me down from walking another three miles after work. Matt had a rare day off. All of the non-Scheu kids went home. Abby went to work then on to soccer practice. It was National French Fry Day so Ann made hot dogs & FF for dinner…just like the meal we saw scattered on the ground, just outside the Tilt-a-Whirl at Coney Island that day. :0) The kids played Pokémon Go while we were under a severe t-storm warning that night and although we didn’t make it out to the fair this year, Ann made us our very own funnel cakes. They were yummy!
It was a stormy Thursday. It was again super humid. Abby had a very long day – going to Pirateers practice early in the morning then worked at Buffalo Wings & Rings for several hours then went on to soccer practice before going shopping with Ann in Greenwood. Abby did a good job of driving on the highway, in traffic. Matt returned to work and had a little drama. Luke did not have football due to it being the last night of the fair. Luke spent the day at home then went to Gma’s to see Keith, Rosie & Megan. Ann & I stopped by after work to see them as well. Luke & I walked home from Mom &Sandy’s house afterwards but Luke petered out on me and hitched a ride from Ann on her way home. Here are some random pictures from this week’s adventures…
Ann had to work on Friday, but I was given the day off due to low census. Abby had Student Council then went over to Gma & Gigi’s to see Keith & Rosie. Matt also met up with them before heading on to work. The girls went shopping while Luke & I exercised on the 5K track at the high school. We parked by Matt’s work and trekked to Rebekah Park and back. I walked while Luke rode his bike. I wore the new shoes that the girls got for me and they absolutely shredded my calves. It was a great workout. Luke & I went from there to Taco Bell for a late lunch and then on to North High School to practice driving the truck. We came home and played basketball for a little while. Abby went to work and later, the entire Owens clan met up at BWR to see her, enjoy few cold libations, stuff our faces and say our good-byes to Keith, Rosie & Megan. Only the birthday girl, Gracie, was missing She was away in Italy, attending acting school. We got home after dark but that didn’t stop the boys from playing some nighttime bball. I won the 1st game of PIG, Luke won the 2nd and Matt won the last game before running out to pick up Hannah and take her to the Messer compound for Bryan & Angie. After work, Abby went out with Baker and friends until late while Bryan & I tried one more time to put together an all-star team for next weekend’s Greensburg Back to School Bash tourney. We have lots of new social media pictures to share: Abby with Baker at Deer Creek for another concert; Abby with Brittney; Bu with her Pirateers at the Fair Parade and at the fair; Luke & Gigi prepping for the WTRE float in the parade; Nathan & Katie and family; Wendy & Steven and fam; Rick & Lynn; Jay Bruce made the all-star team; Ann commenting on the Pokémon Go mania; more Bu & the Pirateers; scenes of Columbian Park the way I remember it; it’s almost football time again(!); Grace Potter was on national TV the other night; some Calvin & Hobbes Sunday panels; Abby & Cody with her new shorts; views from the Decatur County Fair; and a few miscellaneous memes scattered in there as well…
Keith & Rosie left early on Saturday morning, making the long trip back to East Aurora in up-state NY. Luke & I repaired my mower (thanks to Philip’s words of advice!) before mowing and trimming the yard. It was cooler but the humidity remained. I was pretty peeved at the new neighbor behind us who cut his lawn when it was wet and threw went grass and mud all up in our yard and all over our fence and the other neighbor’s fence. What a dick. After we got done mowing, we dragged Matt out of the house and went to go walk. We started at Rebekah Park where we got on the little trails that go around the wooded area, surrounding the creek. However, we went through every trail they had and it only went a mile and we quickly finished the entire jaunt and moved on to the 5K course again. While Matt & I walked, Luke again rode his bike. All told, we got about 5 miles in while Luke did 9. We were pretty sweaty but decided to go out to Chili’s for a late lunch and a couple Long Islands, so Matt drove us home. Abby & Mary were supposed to go to a dance class with the Indy cheerleaders but it got cancelled at the last moment. Instead, Ann & Bu and Mary & her mom Kristie went shopping and grabbed lunch up in Greenwood. Later, Luke moved all the cars again and played basketball in the driveway again. He had Drew over to play bball and ride bikes. The girls came back and took naps. They woke up late and Bu rushed out to the high school for the annual alumni soccer scrimmage where the varsity girls play the alumni. Ann & I went out to watch the girls. Abby played most of the game, getting one shot on goal that was just a few inches wide. Varsity went on to win, 3-0. We will have video and lots of pictures of the event next week. We celebrated afterwards at ElRep, where Matt and the boys joined us. Angie picked up Drew and Abby went out with friends. I think everyone was out early that night, exhausted from the long day…
We enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday. We eventually got up and did our weekly household chores. The clothes washer again gave us trouble. I don’t know if it will see 2017. It was a much slower day, filled with racing, movies, naps and chilling on the couches in the A/C. Abby went out for a while, running with Brittney & Megan. Meggie came over for dinner after the kids ran to the grocery store for Ann. She cooked a big dinner for us – chicken sun-dried tomato crème pasta. And in honor of National Ice Cream Day (we really wanted to go to Ohio for some Graters!!), the kids got a bunch of different pints of ice cream for dessert. It was a nice way to end another busy week here at the Scheu abode…
Next up is our Waybac section which has another few pictures from our first six photo albums and more goodies from Mom’s move. We lead off a couple pictures inside WTRE with Sandy’s black cat and Mr. Gene from 1993; next we move to Matt’s first Owens Christmas at Mom & Sandy’s house in December ’96; then back to Columbus to find Matt at meal time and then learning to walk around our first home in January & February 1997; next we fast forward to Matt’s new home on Main St, his first trip to the Indy Zoo and a visit to Dad & Barb’s cabin in Lafayette in August ’97; then we have some classic photos of our first trip to Niagara Falls and then running around Gma & Gigi’s backyard in the sprinkler in July 1998; then lots of various photos: newborn Megan, Keith & Megan, and Matthew’s kindergarten picture, and one more Megan – all circa 2003; then we have Gene on his tractor in the Fair Parade & Megan at home in July 2004; Keith & Megan on her 2nd bday in March 2005; and finally more of Dee with Gracie, circa 2005.
And finally we end with our video segment which includes three new home movies this week and several from around the internet.
And that puts the kibosh on this week’s episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Hanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya Mom.
