Our landscapes are changing again, as is typical at this time of year. The signs of autumn are all around as we increasingly see things like farmers in the fields, leaves in the yard, woolly worms in the road and geese and ducks in the sky. The temps started out hot – nearly 90 and ended cold – down around 30. No wonder Ann and I have aching bodies like we do. Matt went back to school. Abby continues to heal, stepping down her concussion protocol which allowed her to return to work and school but still remains restricted from sports. She had occasional headaches this week, but nothing like she had been experiencing. She accomplished a big achievement this week that she’s been working towards for many years. And Luke’s basketball season swung in to high gear as he also reached a milestone of his own. Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
Grudgingly, it was back to work for Ann & I on Monday morning. I won’t lie; it was rough. I did manage to walk a couple miles after work on a very warm day. Luke & Abby had to go back to school as well. Matt, however, enjoyed the day off for Fall Break. Luke had basketball practice after school. Bu had Pirateers practice cancelled so she taught class at Dixon Dance Studio. Matt ended up staying till dinner (typical college kid!). He jokingly requested ElRep so who were we to say no? Actually I think it was Abby that put that in his mind, but it was all good. He ended up leaving after dinner to head back up to school. Bu & I caught up on AHS & the Simpsons (including their 600th episode, which was one of my favorite topics – a new Tree House of Horror episode – #XXVII!). I ended up falling asleep early that night.

On Tuesday I was in super early for our annual 12° generator test. I fired her up at 5 am. Abby was in early for Student Council, so Ann ran Luke to school. Luke had basketball practice after school and Bu worked at Dixon all night again. Matt enjoyed a day off for Fall Break at his apartment. Abby got big news as she was officially nominated for National Honor Society and will be inducted next week! Way to go, Bu! We are so proud of you!! I walked about 3 miles after work in spotty showers with a warm breeze. We finally got our electronic newspaper going with the Daily News and I was able to find Luke’s football game write-ups this year.
Matt started classes back up on Wednesday. Ann joined Abby at jazz class later that evening at Dixon. Luke had basketball practice after school. Ann worked at the Greensburg office. I walked about 2.5 mi after work on a warm but wet night as the rain, thunder and lightning got worse the longer I walked. By the time I got back to Black Betty, I was soaked and so out of my element that I forgot that Ann wasn’t at the Columbus office and didn’t realize it until she reminded me while I was parked in her parking lot waiting on her! Thankfully, I don’t think any of her girls saw me! Mom O came over for a while when she dropped off Luke and we gave her a couple thank you gifts for taking care of Lola & Molly for us last week. Here are some random pictures from the past week or so…

On Thursday, Luke’s basketball practice became an official basketball tryout. Abby had tap class at Dixon and Ann joined her. Annie had a doctor appointment with Guse, regarding her knees, earlier in the day. They don’t seem to be getting any better so she has to deal with it until they she decides she can’t take it any more and has replacement surgery, basically. As for me, I walked 3 miles in the rain again on a much cooler day. I think I got a blister on my left pinky toe to match the one I have on my right from walking on the beach in wet shoes last week. My right one is black and gross looking. If it doesn’t get any better, I’ll have to have the doctor look at it.
Abby was in early on Friday morning for National Honor Society before school. Luke had his final basketball practice / tryout after school and made the “A??? team! He is the first Scheu child to achieve this status. We are very proud of his efforts as well. After school, Bu worked at Buffalo Wings & Rings. I worked a half day – going in only long enough for our annual Fire Marshal inspection – which we aced. Dennis & I went to lunch at Arni’s – I love their Jr salad and bleu cheese dressing. I then walked 3 miles on a much cooler afternoon. Later, Ann & I took Luke to Chili’s to celebrate then he went to Trevor & Jamie’s house to stay the night with his buddy Luke (Phyllis & Dick’s grandson). They went to the sectional game, where the Pirates beat Batesville to advance to the 2nd round. The Drakes braved the cold weather at Shriver Field but Ann & I sat this one out. We figured we’ve done enough time out there and will have to be out there again for Luke real soon. Instead, we avoided the cold night (near freezing) and kept warm on the couches and fell asleep early. Abby came home after work with her friend Randal to get WD40 in order to remove window chalk from his car’s windows. They ended up staying late, talking to Ann until the wee hours of the morning. We have several social media pictures to share this week: Dad visiting his old buddy Steave in Vegas; Lola & Molly; Abby & Pirateers; more travel pix; more Pirateers; several miscellaneous vacation pix; a few more of Abs; Aunt June & girls; Ally & fam; Kate & Jake bought a lake house; Wendy & fam; Mark & daughter; Uncle Dan & Brody; Barney’s grandkids; the Guards; Monica; various memes, Simpsons and Cowboys stuff; more Dad & Steave (including a classic!); the Drakes; Purdue had a change of guard in the coaching ranks this week; and the Cubbies are going to the World Series – somewhere Grandpaw & Mom are thrilled!

We were up fairly early on Saturday morning. Matt stayed at school this weekend. Abby worked the annual coat drive at the high school as part of Jr Optimist Club then had Megan over for a while to visit. She eventually headed in to work again at BWR until late. Ann picked up Luke from the Hellmichs and took him to Columbus for an overdue haircut. She ended up going scrapbooking at Mrs. B’s with Shawna. Luke & I decided not to mow due to the cold weather so we ended up at the YMCA to work on some basketball skills for a couple hours and played a game of 1-on-1. He ended up winning 10-9. Next we had a chilly walk on the 5K track at the high school and then grabbed lunch at Subway. Afterwards we ran out to North Decatur so Luke could practice driving Betty White and did a little HW hunting on another cool day that eventually topped out at about 60. We came home and joined Ann, who was napping on the couch while watching Purdue’s first game under new head coach Gerad Parker. Although they showed signs of life, they did lose again to drop to 3-4, facing the #8 team in the nation, Nebraska. That night, Ann made popcorn and we watched the Cubs win. They are headed to the World Series for the 1st time since ‘45! They face the Cleveland Indians next week. Afterwards we got caught up on our DVR’ed shows until late. My knees, ankles and achilles tendons are so sore! In the middle of the night, just as I was headed to bed, I received a call that the facility was having issues with the sprinkler system again. I talked the staff through some preliminary stuff and tried to get one of my guys to go in. However they were both out of state so without sleeping, I headed back in to work. I met Dennis at about 4 and we were able to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair the issue. I couldn’t have done it without his expertise. We are very lucky to have a guy like that at our facility. Safety First (out of KY, they are wonderful) came in and repaired a couple holes in the dry system and the staff did a great job of cleaning up the water mess due to compressor failure and the dry system leaked in two spots.. I got home around 10, having to call Ann at one point because I was nodding off on the way home. We did our weekly household chores. Ann already had a start on the laundry and she made a delicious breakfast casserole – I was starving! We settled in and took naps all Sunday afternoon and watched football. Abby was already gone in to work at BWR by the time I got home, working first shift for once. When she got home, Ann took her and Randal out shopping for a new dress for NHS induction next week. Luke did his weekly chores and took it easy, trying to get Matt’s airsoft gun in operating condition. Later he ran around the neighborhood with his buddies Alex and Oakley until dark. It has been a long time since I pulled an all-nighter so I’m sure I will hit a wall tomorrow. Kevin gave me the option of taking tomorrow off so we’ll see how things go, but there’s so much to do at work because we took the week off for vacation that I’m still trying to catch up. It’s been a long week; I’m glad it’s over…now I just hope I can stay up long enough to watch the season premier of The Walking Dead. :0)
Next up is our Waybac section which continues to feature our 2nd six photo albums of our young family. We lead off this time with several from early on Christmas morning on Main St in Greensburg in December 1998; then several from Breakfast with Pooh at the Wilderness Lodge in Walt Disney World, down in Orlando in May 1999 as well as visiting Mickey’s house later that day; next we have Dee & Chad’s birthday party at our house in December 1999; then Matt’s t-ball game in June 2000 at the YMCA and later Matt’s graduation day from pre-school, out at the park in June 2000; next we have Abby’s 1st birthday party at our home in September 2000; Matt playing soccer at the Y in September 2000; and several pix of Christmas morning on Main St in December 2000.

And finally we have our video section which includes one short, new family movie this week as well as several from around the internet.
And that does it for this edition for the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks as always for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya Mom.
