No Release from my Cryonic State

Whew! Man is it cold outside!! We started off cold and it got more and more frigid as the week progressed. We even got some snow. I’m still amused at how everything stops around here when a few inches of the white stuff falls from the sky. We got to use the snow shovel, salt and window scrapers. Matt was still home this week, so the family was still complete and the house was happy. Ann & I went back to work and Luke & Bu eventually went back to school. Luke and Bu both had sport activities and Matt and Bu worked a few days as well. Matt learned a valuable lesson this week to boot. Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
Ann & I enjoyed the day off from work and did our weekly household chores on our final day of vacation. The kids were all off school. Matt worked at Aspen Place. Abby had Pirateers practice early then cleaned up her room (finally!) before going out all day with Randall. Luke got back in to the swing of things with basketball practice. Ann & I ended up over in Columbus to go to Lowe’s to buy a new washer/dryer finally. Well, we order it at least; we still need to wait six weeks for it to be delivered! Later, Ann & I met up with Abby, Randall and his mom for dinner at El Reparo. It was nice to meet her. Luke went to the YMCA with Grayson for extra basketball practice. Grayson came home with Luke and eventually spent the night. We watched the Cotton Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl. Here are random pictures from this week.

On Tuesday morning, Ann & I went back to work but the kids were still off school. It actually rained all day but I managed to FINALLY get back out walking and managed to get in a couple miles despite the cold, wet weather. My feet were really cold by the time we got home. The heater stopped working in Black Betty, so we’ve temporarily nicknamed her, “The Fridge.??? It was so cold riding in that car this week. She’s gonna have to go back in the shop this week. Thank God for the butt-warmers!! Matt worked at noon and Abby worked later that evening. Luke had a basketball game vs. St Louis (of Batesville). Luke didn’t feel very good and did not start for the first time all year, but Coach brought him in after just a minute or so and the kids quickly took the lead and never looked back. Not sure what it is that he brings to the team, because it is not scoring – I think it’s all those little hustle things like setting picks, getting loose balls, rebounding and getting tips/steals to force turnovers that sets up his teammates to succeed. The boys were up by 32 at the half, which allowed all nine players to get lots of playing time and they won big time, 63-25! Luke’s stats: no shots taken, 5 rebounds, 2 tip-outs, a steal, a block and a forced turnover with only one foul.

Wednesday was a cold, windy day. The cars had frozen overnight which made things interesting on Luke & Bu’s first day back to school. We thankfully only had minimal shouting and fighting. Everybody’s doors and locks were frozen shut. Thank goodness for remote locks! We eventually got everyone up and going. Abby worked at Dixon Dance Studio after school then came home to eat dinner before heading back to Dixon with Ann for jazz class. Ann made a great dinner of pasta, garlic bread and salad. Luke had basketball practice after school. Matt worked at the old folks’ home. I walked over 3 miles after work and froze my butt off in the process. Randall came over after work and we all sat down and watched the Bones season premier – which is sadly in its final year. We have a ton of social media pictures to share this week: the couple; Matt at Joel’s wedding; Abby with friends and family; Drew turned 13; the Drakes; the Smiths; the Wargas; Charlie; Barney and family; more Bu with friends and family; Jamie at BWR; Ally & fam at Mackey; Kuyhlia cheered her final Colts game of the year; the Hellmichs; Wendy & Bethany; Chris & family; the Grizzly team that went to the Big Dance during Ann’s senior year; John & June; Aunt Sharon (Morgan) and fam; Aunt Sharon (Bryan) w/ a drawing of her and Mom; Matt before & after; congrats to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees in 2017: ELO, Journey, Yes, Pearl Jam, Joan Baez); some Cowboys memes; Biggie had a big week; some cool Simpson / Floyd crossover tees; Colts memes; a joint funeral was held for both Carrie Fisher and her mom; Mariah’s big fail; more miscellaneous stuff; Katie & Jake; Stinkbug and Stickbug; and a HUGE congrats to my cousin Lindsay and a big WELCOME to the newest member of the Scheu family – Walter John – who was born on Thursday. :0)

We had a cold, windy and snowy Thursday. We got a little over 2??? of snow – three in some areas. We weren’t surprised when we heard the news that Luke’s basketball game was cancelled at Greendale MS in Lawrenceburg, but we did joke about people not knowing how to drive in snow. They would die if they had to drive up north where we lived in the 80s. Abby had Pirateers practice then later headed on to tap practice at DDS. Matt worked at Aspen Place and Ann made Chex Mix (finally!). I walked a little over a mile in 15 degree weather with wind chill around zero while it snowed. I ended up cutting it short because I started getting too cold and my legs and face felt like they were going to fall off.
We had a bitterly cold Friday that barely got into double digits. For some reason, the kids had a two-hour delay. Matt enjoyed a rare day off. Luke had basketball practice after school. Randall came to the house that night and went with us to Abby’s Pirateers performance at the boys’ basketball game vs. Connersville. They looked great and I really enjoy that pre-game routine. They changed the music up a little, I think. Something about it was different. Afterwards we went out to eat at Wings & Rings then came back to the house to watch The Accountant on the big screen. That was a cool movie. The temperatures really dropped overnight and Ann turned up the thermostats in the house as the temps dropped to single digits with wind chills below zero.

Boy; Saturday was just a frigid day – even I broke out the sweatpants for a few hours! It snowed a little throughout the day. Abby got up early for Pirateers clinic and was gone for most of the day (they had about 70 girls sign up!). Ann teamed up with Jamie (Emma’s mom) to make a huge breakfast for the girls. Luke had basketball practice then played another couple hours of basketball at the YMCA with Grayson and other teammates afterwards. Luke & Abby decided not to go sledding – too cold and not enough snow. Matt had to work but Bebe wouldn’t start. He said he had let gas get really low and sure enough, it froze his gas line. So I dropped him off at work, picked up some Heat and used our backup can of gas to get him going. I ended up putting Heat in all the vehicles and filling them up with gas. Randall came over to see Abby before he worked and had a bowl of tomato soup, which Ann made for dinner. Abby ran with Pirateers friends for a couple hours and then had another performance at the boys’ basketball game vs. Shelbyville. This was the clinic routine where they had the different classes (ages) of girls perform and then had a big finale at the end with everyone. Megan rode over with us to the game. Abby had the kindergarteners and had a lot of fun (you can see it in the pictures). Matt met us at the game as we did Mom & Sandy. Ann made smoky tomato soup and grilled cheese on a bitterly cold day that never got much above single digits. It was a good day to stay inside and watch the NFL playoff games. After dinner, I was pretty tired and ended up falling asleep on the couch. So I went to bed early, Matt went out with his buddies and Abby & Megan got coffee and hung out at the house, watching movies.

Luke & I were up early on Sunday morning to get upgrades for our Christmas boxes so we can take down the tree. Our boxes that hold our goodies are very old and are no longer protecting the bulbs. We had several damaged the past couple years, so it was time. We found some big totes at Lowe’s and some nice, hinged ones for our box-less ornaments. We ended up in North Vernon to find those. It was right around zero that morning and actually warmed in to the 20s. It looked like might have snowed a little overnight. Matt had to work again. Ann & I did our weekly household chores. Abby went out with Megan and Brittney then later had to go to work. We took it easy and kept warm all day while watching the NFL playoff games. Ann made a delicious dinner of Cajun chicken pasta. Matt got home and we watched the #20 Boilers upset the #13 Badgers.
Next up is our Waybac section which continues to feature our next six photo albums of our young family, which features our adventures while in the Main St home. We lead off this week in August, 1997 for the Brickyard 400; then Christmas Day in the parking lot behind the Main St home in December 1998; Easter egg hunt on Main St in April 1999; our vacation down in Treasure Island in May 1999; Christmas Day on Main St in December 1999; down to the Sand Pebble for vacation in May 2000; Abby’s birthday on Main St in September 2000; Abby and her ride-on toys on Main St in September 2000; Dad B and animals in Rossville in the new house in September 2000; Christmas Eve at Gma & Gigi’s house in Ryle in December 2000; and a picture frame from the Dinosaur ride at Disney in May 2004.
