Well I’m Takin’ my Time, I’m just Movin’ On

We enjoyed a slower week since we last touched base. Luke enjoyed a week of less structure as he started his next ball season. Abby only had one dance but worked several days this week. Matt did not come home, deciding to enjoy campus life. Ann had her knees looked at again as she continued to prep for After Prom. I walked about 11 miles, falling short of my goal three weeks in a row now, as I continued on my Keto diet. This cold weather needs to go away so I can get my numbers up again! It was a big week for the local high school teams as post season play progressed. Dad B, Mom O & Phyllis continued to make progress with their health. And we have a new youngest Scheu in our large, extended family – which was very exciting news! Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.

We had a cold, snowy start to the week on Monday. It was back to work and school for everyone. Ann & I had a fast day at work. Luke finally made a decision about his immediate future, choosing to skip wresting and opt for weight lifting with the football team. So, he went to the Fieldhouse after school to begin his journey towards a spot on the varsity football team. We don’t know that he’ll make it this year, but that is his goal now…and he usually achieves whatever he sets out to do, so we’ll see… Abby ran to Columbus with Molie to get a smoothie then missed work and class at DDS in order to come back and dance with her Pirateers. I walked about 3 miles in and around the mall due to the bitter cold and strong wind. That evening, Ann and I went to high school to watch Bu & the Pirateers present the colors (no pregame routine for whatever reason) then dance at halftime of the boys’ basketball game vs. Indian Creek. They performed to, “Love so Soft.” As always, they looked fabulous – I just wish they would’ve done two routines as our time watching her dance is quickly coming to an end. After the game, Bu went over to Trevin’s house until late to do homework.

Tue was a warmer, sunny day in the mid-30s. Luke missed football practice already, due to not feeling well. Abby worked at Wings & Rings after school. Luke felt better after a short nap at home. After a couple hours, he worked out on his weight bench at home and later went to play basketball with Tyler at the Y. I walked a 5K outside while Ann went to see Guse for her knees. He put her on some steroids to aid in the swelling. Let’s just hope we all survive it! During my walk today, I got a chance to talk to Dad B to see how he was doing and he said that his heart had slipped back into A-Fib and he’ll have to get that procedure done again, later this week. I took time this week to work up Luke’s year-end basketball stats. He played in all 22 games with a 19-3 record, playing center (5) and forward (4). He scored 56 points for an average of 2.5 per game. He shot 25-52 (48%) from the floor, 4-10 (40%) from the stripe and 2-3 (67%) from the arc). He had 4 assists, averaging .25 per game and 21 turnovers (about 1 per game). He had 108 rebounds on the year, averaging about 5 per game to go with 33 tip-outs (1 ½ per game). He forced 23 turnovers (about 1 per game), had 19 steals (which is about 1 per game) and had 45 blocks (about 2 per game). He also committed 52 fouls (about 2 ½ per game)…oh; and he had 1 “header” to Dakota! 😊

I got up early on Wednesday morning to go out to the backyard to see the Super (closest full moon to Earth) Blue (2nd full moon of the month) Blood (lunar eclipse) in the western skies. Unfortunately, I couldn’t see much due to it being way too cloudy. That was quite a bummer since this was the first time for this type of special occurrence since 1866! Abby had Big Brothers / Big Sisters during school then went to Dixon Dance for jazz and tap classes later that evening. Ann did not join her to get her Dance Mom groove on because Abby was being a snot that night! I walked another 5K on a warmer afternoon after work then ran to Walmart to get supplies and by the time I got home it was pitch dark. Luke had the night off so he worked out a little with his weight set in the family room and then went to the Fieldhouse to play basketball with his friends. Abs went to Trevin’s to do homework until late while Luke & I watched the #3 Boilers face Maryland and get their 18th win in a row! They’re now 11-0 in conference play and 22-2 overall. Ann and I enjoyed watching the first two episodes of the season 4 of Grace & Frankie that night. As promised, here are pictures from last weekend’s dance at the girls’ Lawrenceburg basketball game.

It cooled off quite a bit on Thursday and only got colder as the day grew longer – including snow flurries. Luke had football practice after school at the Fieldhouse. Abby enjoyed a rare night off. I have to say, it was nice to actually see and talk with our senior daughter. She’s so busy that we never see much of her! Ann & I left work early so she and Abby could go to the funeral home with Mom & Sandy for their friend Martha’s viewing uptown. I went early to pick up Luke from football at the Fieldhouse and went walking on the 5K track. Unfortunately, I only got about a half mile before he was calling saying he was done, so I turned around and only got in a mile. I have to say though, I was OK with it since I had forgotten my walking shoes at work and besides, it was so damn cold out! When the girls got home, Ann made cheeseburgers and cheesy broccoli for dinner. I edited pictures from last week’s dance & basketball games and fell asleep early. I couldn’t believe there were nearly 900 pictures to sort through! As promised, here are pictures from Luke’s basketball tournament last weekend vs. Rushville and Greenfield Central.

I had Groundhog Day off on Friday due to low census at work. Phil saw his shadow, so we get to enjoy six more weeks of winter. Ann went in to work early. Abby slept in due to not feeling well then went in to school later in the morning so I ran Luke to school. I spent the day doing taxes for Ann & I and then for Matt & Abby as well. I managed to get in a quick nap before everyone came home and woke me up. After school, Abs worked at BWR until late. Matt went to IU for the weekend to see some old friends. Memaw brought Luke & Drayden home from school and later we took them right back so that we could register Luke for his high school classes. It’s the last time we’ll do that, which made us feel a little old, I have to tell you. When we got done there, we went to Mom & Sandy’s house for Ann’s delayed birthday party from last weekend. Gigi made cheeseburgers and Mom made cake and cupcakes for us. Dee & Jamie joined us for dinner and we all sang to Ann in the classic death march version of the Birthday Song. We visited for a while then we took the boys to the YMCA to play basketball and chase girls. They ran around the neighborhood for a couple hours when we got back home and then they played PS4 until the early morning hours. We heard from Lynn, who said Dad B had his heart stopped & started again and that everything had gone very well and that they released him to go home and rest up before their next trip. Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.

The damn dogs had me up early on Saturday morning, so I went ahead and got a jump on the weekly household chores. Abby was next up and was right out the door early for hair appointment in Columbus. She then met up with Trevin over there to attend the girls’ swimming sectional. Ann got up and did some After Prom stuff and later made lunch, which included a really hot jalapeno that made both of breath fire! Luke & Dray had to get up early as well so Dray could leave to get his hair cut as well. After lunch, Annie skipped her scrapbook weekend in lieu of taking a nap and prepping Abby’s Senior Night poster. I spoke to Dad B, who was feeling much better and was hopeful of a full recovery with the aid of his c-pap. If things go well, they’ll be off to Hilton Head in about a week or so. I think it’s great that they’re having fun and staying busy. Abby came home only long enough to change clothes and was right back out of the house to go to work at BWR until late again. Ann went out to dinner with Shawna so Luke & I had Koch’s carryout and watched Happy Death Day. The girls’ basketball team won Sectionals that night and earlier the wresting team sent three boys to semi-state, with one Regional champion!

We enjoyed sleeping in on Super Bowl Sunday. We did as little as possible all day, watching several episodes of the Simpsons (I got tired of waiting for Abby to watch them!), taking naps and staying inside on a sullen, overcast day – until it was time to head out to the Sunken Boat Bar to watch the big game with Bryan & Angie. Luke came with me to hang out with Drew, but Ann didn’t feel well and Abby worked a double all day at Buffalo Wings & Rings so they didn’t make it. Ann made some great Parmesan crisps with mini pepperoni pieces that were a big hit. Bryan made some sausage roll ups and an amazing pizza. Although there wasn’t much defense, the game itself was actually a good game to watch. I was pleased to see that the referees weren’t calling everything, but instead they let them play. It was a smaller crowd with the Bewleys, Bainbridges, Havilands & the Nobbes rounding out the crew. We had a lot of fun rooting against the Patriots (except Bob). In the end, the Eagles held on to win by 8. But as Matt said afterwards; I, too, felt like I needed a shower afterwards due to rooting for the Eagles – which made me feel dirty. We drove home in a winter wonderland and headed to bed and called it a week when we got home… We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.
