Won’t you Step into the Freezer

It certainly felt like we stepped into a freezer this week. Despite the landscape beginning to show some color, it felt like it was still winter for another week or so, here in Indiana. It is much greener during our commutes to and from work, no longer dead and a lifeless brown everywhere. But it was downright cold, and it snowed several days this week as well – forcing me to walk indoors at the mall a few times. Although we had the coldest temps of the last few weeks, I did get almost 19 miles in this week. Ann and the kids had their last full week of work and school before Spring Break. Matt came home this weekend. Abby worked and danced all week. Luke continued to work out for football and baseball while working hard to keep his grades up before the break. Ann continued to prepare for Abby’s prom and After Prom. In addition to my walking, I continued my keto diet and got my first results from the doctor this week. Ms. Phyllis can’t catch a break… Just as she finally began to get over than darned pneumonia, she fell and hurt her back. Thankfully, she is a tough old bird and hopefully we’ll get to go visit her very, very soon!! Hello again and welcome to the latest edition of the Scheu Family Blog – which is now officially in its tenth year of publication!

Ann had the day off from work on Monday in order to go with Mom O to support Sandy as she had out-patient surgery. Thankfully, she did fine and is now recovering at home and in the good hands of Memaw. Abby job-shadowed at Stradley’s after her Psych class at the Learning Center then worked at DDS and hung around afterward to have dance class with Kuyhlia. After a long day of school, Luke had football workouts at the Fieldhouse with Coach Moore. I walked 3+ miles on a cooler afternoon. Annie made cheesy spaghetti squash for dinner (it was so good there weren’t any leftovers!). Bryan called me that evening and we went to the funeral home to see Bob & Pam. Bob’s mom had passed, and she was obviously a very well-known lady as we waited in line for two hours to pay respects to Bob and the Nobbe family for their loss. Apparently it had been like that since they started at 3. We didn’t get back home until about 9. I fell asleep only a few minutes after I finished eating and slept on the couch for half the night.

After school on Tuesday, Luke had football workouts again. He is starting to get a little buff! I’m glad to see he’s starting to take it seriously. Abby went up to Indy for the Colts’ Cheerleader workshop class for a few hours. Tonya apparently needs brakes; so, I made an appt with Jerry and she took Barney up to the Circle City for her class, which weren’t at Lucas Oil Stadium this year and instead she drove up to the IUPUI campus. Abs did great despite a little apprehension, as you might expect. We think it’s pretty cool and are very proud of her! Ann made an amazing stir fry out of our leftover roast. Gigi is doing well, and even went in to work at the station for a little while today. I walked in the bitter cold after work. Although I got in just under 5K of walking, my legs were killing me as my muscles never got warm. I was pooped by the time I got home and I again, I fell asleep early. But this time I woke up and worked on making an SD card for Justin, who got a new phone today. He sold us one of his accessories from his old phone that one of our kids will love later this month. And it snowed a little that night, just to make Ann & I worry just a little more during Bu’s drive home.

I went in to work late on Wednesday to get the dogs off to Julie, the dog groomer. It snowed again that morning, giving us a light dusting on the ground and vehicles. It was quite the cold start in the lower 20s…brrr… She was running a little later than I had planned and after Abby finished job shadowing at Dr. Stradley’s office, I met up with her at ElRep for an early lunch! After school, Bu went to tap & jazz dance classes at Dixon then out to eat dinner with Mary. Luke enjoyed a rare night off, spending it playing PS4 online with his buddies. He loves Fort Nite. Ann held an After-Prom meeting after work then went on to DDS to get her dance mom thang on. I worked late then walked at the mall due to it being too damn cold outside! I walked over a 5K. It snowed all day, but we thankfully had no accumulation. The dogs had to be shaved instead of groomed due to their winter coats being badly matted…but we knew that going in to it and I think they look great. But boy, they didn’t like being outside much this week (which is why we allow them to get so bushy this time or year)! Julie noticed them itching and digging at their fur as well as Molly’s ear. She said it was a food allergy and to get them grain-free food. I ended up getting some today and started them on it. By week’s end, Molly’s ear was no longer puffy (completely flat), they are no longer biting and scratching constantly and Molly isn’t shaking her head incessantly… thanks Julie! 😊

Thursday was another cold, snowy day. Luke was up waaay too late last night and had a slow start to the day, refusing to get up and ended up losing his PS4 (sad day for Lukey) for 48 hours. After school, he went to football workouts then he & Drew walked to baseball practice at Mesco with Bryan. Abby and Ann went to Shelbyville to get her prom dress fitted. I walked about three and a half miles at the mall as it was again much too frosty to walk on the airport grounds. I met up with the boys at Mesco then picked up drive-thru and came home to eat. When we got there, Abby was making dinner for Ann (spaghetti and bread sticks) …leaving the mess for me – thanks Bu! :O) Everyone fell asleep early that night and got a good nights’ rest for once.

Abby was in early on Friday morning for Optimist Club, so I ran Luke to school. She then came home to rest for a while due to not having her college Psychology course at the learning center that morning. She eventually got up and went to Stradley’s to job-shadowed and enjoyed a short day of school before working at Wings & Rings until late. She ended up over at Trevin’s until late again. I had a fast day then walked a couple miles at the mall – due to the call – before I left town to go to my doctor appointment. My labs had come back, and I am now back on track with all of my numbers returning to their proper parameters! He was very pleased with my progress and weight loss. I am looking for more, so my next move must be portion control. For now, I’ll just enjoy what I’ve accomplished and be happy to have a healthier body again. I celebrated afterwards by walking another three miles around the park grounds, as it was about ten degrees warmer with no breeze back at the ‘Burg. Ann enjoyed a girls’ night out with her coworkers – eating dinner at TX Roadhouse but bowed out of bowling due to her knees. Black Betty hit 300,000 miles today!! Matt stayed up at school on the last night before Spring Break. That left Luke & I to our own volition, so we to grabbed dinner & a cocktail at ElRep and Luke drove us home. He ran around the neighborhood for a few hours that night and I fell asleep early on the couch, watching Ancient Aliens… Here are random pictures from our recent adventures.

Because I conked out so early last night, I was up way before dawn on Saturday morning and spent some quiet time logging in my recent HW finds. Ann and Abs got up pretty early and went out to get supplies for tomorrow’s trek as well as their rental car from Columbus. They ended up getting upgraded to a new Dodge Caravan…it’s pretty sweet for a grocery getter! Matt came home later that morning and we all went out as a family for lunch at ElRep. It was nice to have just the five of us together again…if only for a short while. Afterward, Matt & I treated Bébé to a spa day – getting her oil changed with a new air filter and wipers as well as a carwash. She was like-new again! LOL We came home and Matt & Ann took naps while Luke took me out driving for about 90 minutes or so in Barney. He did some in-town driving where we did a little junking (no luck this weekend) and then he took me to Westport and back via the backroads. He is doing very well, but I was really nervous on those winding roads and it gave me knots in my stomach after eating lunch! Abby worked second shift at BWR then came home to get a little rest. Matt & I spent the night watching championship basketball games all night. The girls and I turned in early again since I had been up since 4 and the girls had to get up at 3 tomorrow morning to get an early start on their trek down south. And unfortunately, the boys’ basketball team lost to Evansville today to end their season at Regionals.

Unfortunately, the girls slept through their alarms on Sunday morning. The first thing I heard this morning was the panicked voice of Abby waking Ann, saying it was 5 and that she had to get up. I think the s-word might have been said a couple times… I got up with them and helped them load up and send them on their way before dawn. I tried to go back to bed but was wide awake and just stayed up to get a jump on writing the blog in peace while the boys slept in. We lost an hour as we “sprang forward” due to DST that morning. We made breakfast and got around to our weekly household chores. Later, Matt followed me to the shop as I dropped off Tonya so Jerry can put new brakes on her tomorrow for us. Matt and I continued watching championship basketball games and then watched the Big Dance bracket show. The #10 Boilers somehow salvaged a 2-seed and will play in Detroit. More specifically, they play the 15-seed, Cal State Fullerton, in the first round of the East Regional bracket. The #1 seed in that bracket went to Xavier. Butler is also in that East Regional. We watched the NASCAR race (Harvick has now won all 3 races this year) and then wound up our week with The Walking Dead / Talking Dead. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

We wrap up this entry with our video segment which includes two new family home movies from this week as well as several from around the internet.

Well that does it for this week’s episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up again with you next time. Who knows, maybe we’ll have another ten years of these publications. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Momma…
Later, Scheu
