Feelin’ Better Baby, I’m Over You

We had another long week of overcast weather and challenges to overcome. Matt had issues with Bebe but got things worked-out and achieved a big step towards his teaching degree. Abby got Tonya back and started working in her limited free time at college. Although Luke is between sports seasons, he is practicing both football and baseball but that had to be put on hold this week due to getting sick. Ann was sore and tired most of the week but it was because she worked so hard and made so much progress in physical therapy. And although she has no definite date yet, she’s already started to talk about returning to work. I returned to work after being out last week. It was only the second full week I’ve had since Christmas break. My diet is slowly returning to normal. After gaining and gaining, I finally leveled off and began losing small amounts this week. It was only the second time this year that I actually met my weekly exercise goal of fifteen miles – thanks in part to me walking a half mini marathon on Friday afternoon. It was nice to see all three kids this week and they all seem to be doing really well right now. Hello again and welcome to the latest edition of the Scheu Family Blog.

Luke & I were up early for school / work on Monday while Ann slept-in. Gma ended up picking up Luke after only an hour of being in class because he felt awful with flu-like symptoms. I had a fast day back at work for the first time in about a week. I ended up leaving a little early to go walk about a mile at the mall, just to get the blood pumping after last week’s fiasco. I came home and picked up Lukey to run him to the doctor. I was so tired by the time I got home to get him, I actually fell asleep in the driveway for about ten minutes (damn, I’m old!). I ran him back over to Columbus to see his pediatrician and sure enough, he had Influenza A. …So, he’s off school and sports for pretty much all week… Ann looked better that evening, walking a few times with her cane instead of the walker and even walking without anything…and man, is that weird to see her do that! I ran a few errands and brought home ElRep for dinner that night after Annie called it in. I spent the night remastering a few of my bootleg concerts that I attended over the years. These are some of my favorite shows that I haven’t heard in years: Aerosmith – Alpine Valley 1985, Frehley’s Comet – LaPorte 1986, Grace Potter – The Murat 2013, Guns N’ Roses – Deer Creek 1991; Iron Maiden – Rosemont Horizon 1987, Megadeth – The Ritz 1988 and Rush – Rosemont Horizon 1986. I have others I want to do, but I want to enjoy these for now…

Luke stayed home with Ann and took it easy on Tuesday. Matt texted me that he had yet another flat tire on Bebe, thanks to all the damn potholes in Indy! He made it to his student-teaching job a little late. He was supposed to get all-new tires that evening, but I don’t think he has had time to do it yet. I had another fast day at work then walked a little over two miles at the mall. Ann had a good day but said Luke drove her crazy with all his yelling in the other room while playing Fortnight (a few of his buddies are also off school, sick). That night, I did a lot of yelling at the TV myself as IU hosted #15 Purdue – and what a game it was! The officiating was horrible for such a physical, defensive game. But the Boilers prevailed to keep their Big Ten championship aspirations alive. That night, Ann was up a few times, swearing she heard a mouse in the bedroom! Come to find out, it was thundering and hailing outside, which is what she was hearing, LOL! Here are various pictures from our recent adventures.

Wednesday was a cold, wet day. It started out with snow then changed over to freezing rain before we left town that morning. I shoveled wet snow and slush before Ann & I were out the door before the dawn together for the first time since the day of her surgery. I dropped her off at physical therapy and went on to work. Her friend Lynne picked her up and they went to breakfast afterwards. The girls came back to town and ran some errands before Ann came home and got in a quick nap. Later that evening, Kristie picked her up and they went to their After-Prom meeting at the high school. I had a fast day at work then walked three miles at the mall. Luke had a two-hour delay as he returned to school for the first time since getting the flu. He was feeling much better. He had an easy day then had the night off from sports so he played Fortnight all evening again. Thankfully, there were no hail mice that night and Ann slept better than she has in weeks.

On Thursday, Luke & I were up early while Ann and the dogs slept in that morning. Luke had a good day then had football practice cancelled. Then his baseball practice was cancelled due to the coach scouting for basketball. So, he drove the Hot Rod Lincoln with Gma out to pickup his buddy Oakley and they went to the YMCA to play basketball for a couple hours. Ann had a good day of watching NCIS, SVU and Friends while resting her knees. I had a shitty day and got out late that evening. I wanted to just go for a beer but couldn’t find anyone to go with me so I walked about a mile and a half at the mall on another cold, overcast, depressing day then called it quits – fed-up with the day. Ann called in an order at Koch’s on my way home and I picked it up when I went out to pick-up the boys. We had a quiet night then turned-in early. A big congrats goes out to Matthew, who learned that evening that he had passed his edTPA! That moves him one step closer to getting his teaching degree! Way to go, Matt! Ann didn’t sleep well again that night – still no hail mice, but still restless – we’re not sure what’s going on with her.

Ann & I were up early and in to Columbus again on Friday morning. I dropped her off at PT and then stopped at Target to do some quick Hot Wheels hunting. Annie was picked up by her friend Cheryle at physical therapy this morning. She was sore and very tired after working hard at therapy. I had a fast day at work. The boys and I went out for lunch at Chicago’s Pizza to celebrate making it through a long couple of weeks. Afterward, I walked seven miles outside on the airport property! My feet were a little sore, but otherwise, I felt pretty good. On my way home, I stopped and picked up dinner at ElRep that Ann had called in for us. They were so busy! Luke had a good day at school then had the night off from sports. After we ate dinner, we watched a couple movies. Ann & I turned in around midnight while Luke stayed up late playing Fortnight with his friends. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

Ann & I were up early and headed to Columbus again on Saturday. But this time, it was to get haircuts at Jami’s new shop. We got over there a little early so we ran to Chick-Fil-A for a quick breakfast. I snuck away to Best Buy while Ann was getting her hair done and found lots of goodies I want in there! Ann’s knees were still really sore from PT yesterday and she iced them several times while we were travelling in the van today. We ended up going to Franklin and picking up Abby & her friend Carli. We brought them home, dropped off Ann so she could nap and picked up Tonya. Luke joined me and we took the girls out for quick bite to eat. The girls got their food to go, as Abby had to get back up to campus so she could work at Buffalo Wild Wings that afternoon. Luke & I ate our lunch then ran some errands before coming home and doing some chores around the house. Later, Luke went over to Oakley’s house and ended up spending the night with him. We watched the #15 Boilers beat the Cornhuskers in a close game to reach twenty wins this season! Matt had planned to come home that night, but he and Taylor took a friend out for dinner that evening. They didn’t get done till late so he ended up staying the night in Indy. There were storms in the area, with the threat of severe weather. We got some rain and the wind was nasty – it shook the house all night, but it never stormed. Luke said they lost power out there but we were fine all night…

Matt came home super early on Sunday, getting the dogs all riled-up. He got changed and went into work before Ann & I even got up. When he left, the dogs were restless and so I got up with them and let Annie sleep in. I watched some classic sci-fi in peace – Star Trek, Buck Rogers and Stargate Atlantis – before Ann got up. Once she got up, I did my weekly household chores while watching the three NASCAR races in Atlanta all day. It was another mostly-overcast, rainy and windy day. It blew the chairs over on the back patio. I swear, I have seasonal affective disorder! Mom & Sandy came over to visit for a while and stayed until Matt came home from working at Aspen Place. They stayed and visited with us for a while. After they left, the sun actually came out for about an hour before it got dark. Matt stuck around for a while and the boys had an impromptu wrestling match. We got to talking and ended up putting on the video of Matt wrestling his sophomore year and watched the match where he injured his shoulder. It would dog him for two years before he finally had I surgically repaired. We had fun catching up with him. He told us that he was asked to speak on behalf of U Indy at the Indianapolis State House next month! Wow! After Matt left, we watched the Oscars red carpet special and ordered Pizza King for dinner. Once the food arrived, we watched Saving Private Ryan on the big screen. Later, we wound down our evening with The Walking Dead / Talking Dead. It was a relaxing way to wrap up the week before starting it all again tomorrow.

Next up is our Waybac section which continues to feature our family photo album #17 that only has pictures of our vacation at Walt Disney World in June 2004. We lead off with the kids riding the monorail to the Contemporary; then we head to a character dinner at the Garden Grill restaurant in Epcot, called Chip & Dale’s Harvest Feast; next we see the Magic Kingdom from Main Street USA for the nighttime fireworks display over Cinderella’s castle; then we head to the Polynesian for more pictures of the luau dinner show with Keith & Rosie called the Spirit of Aloha; next we head to Epcot for the nighttime show called Illuminations – Reflections of Earth; and then the final batch has us in Animal Kingdom for various sites and attractions.

Next up is our video section. We have no new family movies this week but we have several from around the internet to share, including the first two singles off the new Last in Line album called II that was released this week.

And that does it for this week’s edition of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu
