I’m all Regional Now…Dive on In…

We’ve had another week speed by us since we last touched base. It was, in many ways, the end of the winter season for us. We saw precipitation pretty much every day and for several days this week, it was snow. Now that football is gone, it’s time for racing. We watched some of the Daytona Speedweeks action with a little qualifying for the 500 and then the Busch Clash (or should I call it the Busch Crash since it had so many wrecks – only 6 cars finished the race!) to kick off the NASCAR racing season. Matt had another good week of teaching and coaching wrestling at Zionsville West, including a dual meet victory. Abby had her first week of Spring semester classes at Franklin College. She was selected as the Pi Phi representative at the Panhellenic Council, which is cool. I remember doing the same for a couple semesters as a Phi Delt back in the 90s. Luke was a one-sport athlete this week, focusing solely on wrestling in preparation for the next round of the state tournament. Ann had a long week of work and split her free time between seeing some friends, attending After-Prom stuff and spending a day in another stinky gym on butt-numbing bleachers. I had a fast week of work, doing all my start-of-the-month stuff. I fell short of my exercise goal again this week with only about eight miles of walking. Although I did better on my diet through the week, I still struggled on the weekend. It was a huge thrill to experience the Regionals tournament with Luke this weekend. We are so proud of him and all that he accomplished this year. Although the ride ended this week, we were sure glad to be right at his side to experience it all with him. Hello again and welcome to the latest installment of the Scheu Family Blog.

I thought it was a joke when the alarm went off on Monday morning to start our week. I was really hoping for Super Monday to be a holiday…maybe next year? Ann & I drove in to work on a noticeably warmer morning. Luke got up and went to school and then had a good wrestling practice before coming home to relax. He was pretty wiped out that evening and wasn’t up very late before giving it up and going on to bed. Ann & I both had fast days at work. Justin was on-board with the idea of it being a national holiday / day off (think day after Thanksgiving…) and ended up leaving early. That allowed me to get a lot of work done as everyone left me alone. I wrote up work orders from my EOC rounds last week and got all the purchasing done for the start of the month. I walked three miles outside on a gorgeous afternoon. The sun was out, the birds were singing and it was in the sixties. However, it didn’t last; by the time I was done and was headed to pickup Annie it had clouded up, the wind picked-up and the temps started dropping. When we got home, I began work on our taxes. It took me until after midnight, but I got most of everything done. I submitted Abby’s, need one more thing for ours, and still need a few things for Matt’s return. With Abby gone, the dogs struggled while we were at work today. There was pee in the kitchen when we got up that morning. When we got back from work there was pee and poop. Delilah did pretty good in her kennel; we just hate having her locked up for that long…but she’ll survive – Molly & Lola both did. She’s already starting to mellow a bit…but you still have to be on her constantly because despite all her positive behaviors, she’s still a pup and gets into (and chews!) everything. Here are pictures from Luke’s wrestling tournament at Milan a couple weekends ago.

Lola struggled overnight again. Although she was up pacing and peed in the kitchen; at least she hit the piddle pad. She was downright mean to Delilah that morning and we had to have a come to Jesus moment where I reminded her that I am the Alpha dog of this pack and I wasn’t going to stand for her bullying ‘Lilah. Ann & I had long, busy days at work on a damp day. It rained on and off pretty much the entire day. I ran Annie to a meeting at the hospital that afternoon then walked about a mile and a half at the mall before picking her back up and heading home a little early. The dogs did a little better today, with only one accident in the house. Although Lola was a little boisterous, she was at least more cordial with Ms. Delilah. Luke did not have football practice that morning, so he enjoyed sleeping in a little, getting in a cup of coffee with his breakfast before heading into school. He went to wrestling practice that afternoon. Ann used her extra time to organize her scrapbooking supplies in all the new totes she got for her birthday that evening. Luke was in the paper that day for his wrestling accomplishments, along with his teammates. I worked on the blog video featured below that evening and started in on the pictures. Here are pictures from Ann’s 50th birthday party last weekend.

Wednesday was a cold, rainy day. It was a long one for Ann & at work. It helped that Justin, Vic & I went to China Buff for lunch and that I’d earned a free lunch on the house. I got out of work a little late but still managed to walk three miles at the mall. Luke had a good day at school, bragging about the good grades he is bringing home – so far this semester. He said he had a great wrestling practice after school. He ran around with Kameron for a while then he, Oakley and Jenna showed up in our living room. Oakley & Luke said they wanted to study late at his house and asked if Luke could stay the night out at his place. Although we were reluctant, we gave him a chance and so he packed up his PS4 and headed out the door. Now why would he need a PS4 to study?? We came home a touch early that evening so that Ann could go out with her girlfriends for dinner. Their girls’ night out ended up in Batesville at one our favorite places – LaRosa’s. That allowed me to enjoy a quiet evening with the dogs, watching Dr. Who, Star Gate and SVU while editing blog pictures. Here are random pictures from recent adventures.

All that rain yesterday (and overnight) began freezing on Thursday morning, giving us a mix of dew and frost for our commute into work. We were pleased to see that Luke got up on time and made it to school safely that morning from Oak’s. He had another good day at school and then said he had an easier practice since Coach Nieman wasn’t there and there wasn’t as much conditioning! 😊 Ann had a good day, despite some craziness in the office. She and her girls said good-bye to an employee with a pitch-in lunch. I had a long day but got a bunch of stuff caught up. I got out late from work and didn’t get a chance to exercise that afternoon, unfortunately. Instead, we left a shade early to get back to town and run a few errands. As it turned out, it was a good thing that we did…as Delilah somehow managed to get out of her kennel and went on a rampage throughout the house! Molly joined in the dog-riot, peeing in at least six areas. Delilah tore up a pillow and there was stuffing everywhere! She chewed up a few things, drug-out a bunch of Luke’s stuff in the family room, got into the bathroom trashcan and littered the house with its refuse. She tried to get out the backdoor, successfully getting the bar out of the sliding glass door. We still can’t figure out, exactly, how she got out. For the longest time, I was convinced someone had let her out. However, the more we studied the “crime scene” we could see how she may have been able to bend the door and force her way out. She is very strong and all puppy. I may have to get a lock for it if her Houdini act continues. Ann made Fireworks popcorn for dinner and we got caught up on some of our DVR’d shows. Here are pictures of recent additions to my Hot Wheels collection.

Lola had me up early on Friday morning. She had lousy timing, as I had the day off due to us having a low census at work and could actually sleep in. I took advantage of day one of my three-day weekend by paying bills before everyone else got up. Yay! The dogs and I spent a calm morning in the living room as I worked on the blog while everyone slept. It was snowing when we got up and continued through the morning. I shoveled about a half inch of snow and salted the driveway. I think it may have been the first time I had to shovel this year. It wasn’t much and once the sun came out about noon, much of it melted away. I dropped Ann off uptown at her office then went shopping at Walmart. The dogs and I had a quiet day of checking in Hot Wheels, napping and watching DVR’d shows. Kristie picked up Ann from work and they went to their next After-Prom meeting at the high school. When she got back, we watched some shows then she napped while I ran some errands. Meanwhile Luke got up and went to school on a morning we both thought they might call a two-hour delay. He went to what could possibly be his last wrestling practice of the year. He smartly came home and took it easy, resting up for his big day tomorrow… Here are Luke’s wrestling pictures from this year that Mr. Abrell took.

I got Luke up, early on Saturday morning. Actually, the dogs got me up before my alarm making it a really long day. It was snowing again when we got up and looked like it had been going for a while. As we sent Luke off to school to catch the bus with the other three Regional qualifiers, I got ready and shoveled the drive again. Granted, we only had about a half inch of the white stuff, but Ann doesn’t fare well in any of it. We loaded-up Barney and began our trek up to Richmond. Meanwhile, Abby & Garrett drove up to Greenwood to meet up at Matt’s apartment and commute to the Ohio boarder. That big high school was a busy place, not only hosting wrestling but also a couple basketball tourneys that weekend as well. Ann did OK going up and down all the stairs, though her one leg was pretty tight. That’s the next step for her – the joint is good, now she has to work on the surrounding muscles. We had four wrestlers representing the blue and white that day. Triston was beat in his first match and was eliminated from the tourney. Next up was co-captain EB, who won and ended up 3rd on the day. After that, co-captain E-Lowe had an exciting day, winning twice and also finishing 3rd. Luke was our final wrestler at 195. He put up a good fight but couldn’t win his first match. He was pinned with about ten seconds left in the first period and was so eliminated from the state tourney. He was obviously disappointed that he couldn’t punch his ticket to semi-state like his captains, but Ann & I thanked him for such an exciting season. It was a great ride and he has said he would like to do it again next year. It should be fun to watch what he can accomplish in 2021. He was the only sophomore in his weight class that day, which is also encouraging for his future endeavors as well. Luke ends his sophomore season with a 18-16 record – not bad for his first year. We stuck around and watched the rest of the tourney, including a great matchup of undefeated seniors in Luke’s 195-pound weight class. The #1-seeded Krummen from EC faced the #1-ranked (nationwide) and reigning state champ, Allred from Shenandoah. Luke lost to both these young men this year and they’re both outstanding wrestlers. Allred won by fall in the 2nd period. Afterward, we met up in downtown Richmond at a place recommended by Ms. Taylor called Little Sheba’s Restaurant. I had a tall Coors Light draft and an amazing burger called the Cheese Explosion. I could only eat half of it! …OK; Ann made me promise to only eat half of it… 😊 Since we signed Luke out to go to lunch, we dropped him off at the high school to get his car and came on home. The dogs had done well during our absence and were really good that night. Lola was a bit of an ass towards Delilah at times, but she’s a grumpy old maid. ‘Lilah and Molly continue to be best buds, going outdoors and loving the snow. We took it easy, catching up on our DVR’d shows until I fell asleep and turned in early, worn-out from our long day. Luke went out for the evening with his buddies. He ended up having Oakley over to stay the night. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

I’m glad I went down early last night, as the dogs had me up a little after 5 am on Sunday morning. So much for sleeping in… Lola was a grumpy chump that morning, barking and growling at the puppy whenever she got too close. Granted, Delilah was really jumpy and is so big that when she bumps into the other dogs, they go flying across the floor! 😊 The dogs and I watched Ancient Aliens and started our weekly household chores while the others slept in on a chilly morning. There was a hard frost on the vehicles as the temps dipped into the low 20s overnight. I ran to the store to get supplies and Ann made biscuits & gravy for a big breakfast for us all. It snowed all morning, but as the temps rose it turned to rain and melted all our snow. It continued to rain pretty much the rest of the day and night. Luke and Oak went out to his house for the day then later they came back with Jenna and brought us twenty pounds of ground beef that we bought off Oakley’s folks. I cleaned out the freezer in the garage to make room – it was full of frozen meat that was like 3-5 years old – gross! We visited for a while then the kids got takeout for us all and ate here. The kids ran around for a while as it continued to rain that evening. Luke came back early to watch movies with Ann & I and then he wound up playing Fortnight until bedtime. Abby and Gary went to a concert at the new venue in Brown County. Mom & Sandy stopped over to say hi that afternoon. They brought Ms. Pickles with them and Lola ended up in the kennel again for another time out. Delilah is the gassiest dog – she blew us away today! We had to change candles three times to keep the stink away! I think it may have been nerves because Lola was really mean to her. I put her outside a couple times and she ended up in solitary / time-out in the kennel a few times today. By the end of the day, she was better but it is starting to make us wonder what will happen when Molly passes away and it’s just the two of them. Delilah is such a sweet dog; we don’t want her to lose that part of her personality… We took it easy, watching movies on the big screen. It was a great way to wind down another great week.

Next up is our Waybac section which continues to feature miscellaneous albums from our bedroom closet. We lead off with more pictures from Ann’s college photography class, circa 1990; then we move forward to our big wedding day – first at the church in Greensburg and later at the reception in Columbus in September 1995.

Next up is our video segment which contains one new family movie this week as well as several from around the internet.

And that does it for this episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up from your again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu
