Seems it Never Rains in Southern Indiana

It rained every single day during the week, but rebounded nicely by the weekend. Monday was horribly damp and cold. It rained the entire day, causing flash flood warnings. Both Lukes and Abbys ball games were cancelled that evening but Matt started football camp. On Tuesday, it was Matts turn to have a cancelled game, as it continued raining for most of the day. By the time Wednesday rolled around, it only sprinkling and it finally stopped long enough for the cars to get out on the track at IMS. My boss invited me and another work friend to attend our annual Day at The Track event in Indy. We arrived at the track around lunchtime and went to the suite of our hosts our lawyers for good food and cold beverages. After enjoying a couple cold ones and great meal, we went to the garage to see the drivers. There were only a few back there as they were all out on the track; taking advantage of the first nice day in over a week. We finished up in the garage area and decided to go check out the pits. However, Kelly was so excited to finally see cars for the first time (this was her third straight trip; but it had rained the previous two years). I told her I was her good luck charm and had to rub it in a little to Dennis (who had accompanied her on those trips). Because she was so excited, we instead went up high to see all the action on the track and never made it down to the pits. We watched the cars until it was time for us to split. We had a great time and hope Im invited back again next year. Afterward, I hurried back home to get Abby out to her game. It was still damp, overcast and a little chilly. It even rained a little during the game. The gals did really well and the game went by fast as they smashed Abbys old team from a few years back. Abby went one for two with an RBI and a strikeout. She whacked the ball really well and played catcher and first base. It was sweet revenge due to some remaining ill feelings from that season.

On Thursday, Matt had football camp again (as he did all week). We got Abby out to the ball diamonds for her game against another former team with the coach she was hoping would pick her up this year. We were very competitive that night, but ultimately lost by a run. Abby went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and another RBI. She again played catcher and first, but also played an inning in left center when the other team had their big hitters batting. She made a couple nice defensive plays, but in the end it wasnt enough. There were a couple of controversial plays that couldve gone our way and wouldnt made the difference too. Immediately when the game ended, we packed up and headed to the junior high school to watch their annual Spring Arts Festival. It will also turn out to be Matts final band performance in his junior high career. We had to miss Lukes ball practice and Matts baseball game due to the performance which will also be a large part of his grade for this semester. He will take at least one more year of band next year at the high school. They sounded really good that night, playing three songs: Bavarian Trails March, Dances from Terpsichore (I. Ballet, II. Leaping Dance), and their swan song Sabre Dance. Matt is such a ham; wait till you see the video :-p

On Friday, we came home and got Bu out to her third straight game. The grind showed on the girls that night too. They just looked tired. Their batting wasnt bad; we just couldnt string together hits at the right time. Our pitching was good enough to win; but our defense let us down yet again. In fact, we are going to have a practice that focuses only on defense next week. That night, Bu looked good, playing catcher and first base. She made one good play at the plate and had a chance at a second; only to attempt a force out on a tag play. She had the runner dead to rights; but forgot to lay on the tag. It didnt matter anyhow, as the score wasnt even close not that Bu didnt do her part by going 2-for-2 again really rocking the ball at each at-bat now. She is also catching the ball better with each game; really developing her skills. After the game, Ann went out with her friends for their monthly overnight scrapbooking event. The kids and I ordered Kochs takeout from the ball diamonds and ran next door to the park to blow off some time until our food was ready. We came home and capped off family night with the movie Hook on Netflix via the Xbox 360 and everyone eventually fell asleep as the rain began again

Saturday was as very long day. We were up fairly early and went across town to mow Mom & Sandys house. I took Bu who also brought Molly. Molly loved riding in the trucknose to the wind! ;-p She was very good for Abby and they both sat in the back for the ride home. Ann took Abby to the flower store and planted flowers around the light pole in the front yard. Meanwhile, Luke helped me to mow & trim here, including behind the fence. Matt trimmed the bushes for us and did a great job especially on the corner one that had gotten out of control. Luke & Abby went with me to the hardware store where we got a new mulching blade for the mower (and of course popcorn). The seasonal ice cream truck was parked in their lot so the kids needed to have a couple cones as well. Once we finished with that, Matt helped me drain the pool cover for the final time this year and open up the pool for the summer. When we went out to Wal-Mart to pick up a few more pool supplies, we had to stop at Dairy Point for a couple cones for lunch. 😛 Once we got back, Luke had his buddies (neighbors) Alex & Brandon over for the day. Unfortunately, Luke had a meltdown and we had to send the kids home early and Luke came in for a nap. 🙁 When we were finished with the pool, Matt & istarted in on trimming the trees. For our first time, I think they turned out pretty good. We finished up our day by installing the air conditioners. Needless to say when we were finished, we were both pooped! Abby ended up having Megan over to spend the night. We jumped in the shower, Ann made tacos and I passed out on the couch.

Man, was I sore on Sunday morning! Ann made a huge batch of biscuits and gravy for breakfast! The kids played outside for hours outdoors before Megan had to leave. I worked around the house, doing our weekly chores with Abby. She got her room cleaned up and got her bed upgraded to a full size from a twin. She is so excited! Ann, Matt & Luke went up to Indy to Matts best friend Braytons birthday party. It was so hot today; reaching up in to the 90s! When the kids returned, we had popcorn and kicked back to watch season finales of our favorite shows, including The Simpsons, Family Guy and The Cleveland Show. We already ended the seasons of Bones & Fringe. Idol is next week; but what were really upset most about this year are the SERIES finales of 24 and Amazing Grace Here are a couple of videos from this week, featuring the highlights mentioned above:

The concert was great Matt!! I laughed at all the faces you made during the performance. Abby you are coming along really good with your batting and fielding. I can see an improvement in the prior games you had. Luke, you are sooo funny and I actually got dizzy when they were on the equipment out at the park. Going around and around, I wouldn’t be able to walk after I got off. I had forgotten how loud the cars are at Indy also. Wow!!! Loved all your video’s and your writings Tom. Take care of yourself and give everyone a hug and kiss from Grandman and Grandpa. Love always
