… She’d Dance the Night Away

It was a strangely fast week. There was the terrorist act in Boston to start off the week, which was just awful. Then we had to deal with the damn Indiana weather. We had hot, humid days; we had cold, windy days; we had bright, sunny days; we had overcast and stormy days; we had highs in the 80s and lows in the 20s; and we had tornado watches, severe thunderstorm warnings, wind advisories and a frost advisory.
During the Boston Marathon, two assholes set off bombs that killed 3 people and injured/maimed a couple hundred. They eventually caught the guys by the end of the week, thankfully. Abby had track practice and Matt had football practice. Luke & I had baseball practice w/ Bryan & Drew while Abby & Ann went tanning. After we finished baseball practice, I had the first softball practice with Abby. After grabbing Little Caesar’s pizzas real quick, I went out to Bryan’s house for a coaches meeting.
Abby was in early on Tuesday morning for Student Council. Ann was asked to help out at home track meets by the coach. She will help facilitate the high jump competition. However, Abby’s track meet was cancelled due to rain – it stormed all evening. Matt had football practice (lifting). Abby & Ann went tanning. Matt actually bought Prom tickets! Sadly, former NFL player and better known football announcer with John Madden, Pat Summerall, passed away today. We have some new Facebook photos this week to share, including Abby with Brook; Katie and her kids; Conner modeling; Dawnan’s daughter; Rick & Lynn in Maui; Ryan w/ Emmitt & Parker; Pat Summerall’s passing, Rush in the RnR HoF and this week’s Calvin & Hobbes. And Matt was on the internet along with his teammates as their football team was forecast for next year. The author had a few nice words about Matt!

Matt was up early and in to school for Leadership Academy for football. After school he went to physical therapy for his shoulder. Abby had track practice. Luke & I had baseball practice. Actually, it got cancelled due to impending thunderstorms, which were all around us. In lieu of leaving the ball diamonds, we decided to take infield with those that showed up anyhow and planned to go until it started getting nasty…only it never did. We ended up getting a full practice of infield in. Abby had to miss softball though in order to go to jazz dance practice; which she and Ann attended after holding an After Prom meeting.
Ann went with Luke and his class to the IMAX theater and then on to the Indiana State Museum. She has been on numerous ones through the years, as have I. She said this was far and away the worst-behaving bunch she has ever seen. Luke was no angel himself. I hope it doesn’t ruin her for future outings with the school. I took the dogs with me on my way to work and dropped them at the Double K Pet Motel for a day of doggie spa! They desperately needed a haircut and nail job. They were badly matted and as such could only be shaved down. They look so funny now. Abby had her third straight track meet cancelled that evening. This time it was due to severe wind advisories. Matt went to lifting for football. Sadly, Storm Thorgerson passed away. He is a well-known graphic designer, best known for his work on the album covers for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Yes, Black Sabbath and many, many more. I have included several of his works below.

Matt returned to the doctor for a follow-up appointment on his shoulder. The doc was very happy with his progress. He wants to see him in a month and at that point he may be able to do nearly almost all the weightlifting he wants to do! He had to miss physical therapy due to the doctor appointment. Bu had track practice then went with Ann to meet with Shawna about After Prom. Luke had Alex over for dinner and then went to his house to stay the night. Abby had Cara over to stay the night and go with us to dance competition the next morning.
We were up early on Saturday and headed up to the north side of Indy to Westfield High School for the Ticket to Broadway competition. It was the first time we competed in this dance competition. This is the final competition of the year for Bu. It was smaller than any we had been to previously. The auditorium was very nice; though Ann (ever so graceful) tried to jump off the balcony her first time in it! …and Abby said I stressed her out on competition days!! First up was her jazz routine with Baili. They looked pretty good. They received first place but the judges only scored them with a silver score. However, at this competition, they can only score a bronze, silver or gold. So, it was pretty consistent with last week’s results. I know the girls were pretty disappointed with the results but honestly they scored all the recreational entries pretty tough. After grabbing a quick lunch, I had to take a walk. I found a park next door to the school that had a fantastic walking track that stretched out for several city blocks and followed a meandering creek through a forgotten part of the city and even past a Civil War-era cemetery. It was just what I needed to work off that extra taco. We came back in and Abby performed her tap routine that was again very fun to watch. Sure they had a few things here and there, but they still looked damn good! They scored the highest they could – gold – and took 1st place with the highest score in the recreational division! Way to go girls! We grabbed a bite to eat at Friday’s restaurant and made the long trip home. We got home before midnight and collapsed. What a day!

We took it easy on Sunday and enjoyed the day off. We still had our weekly household chores to do, but we took our sweet time doing it and spent a lot of time flopped on the couch, keeping warm. Matt interviewed Gigi as part of the upcoming Chautauqua over at WTRE. I will try to get that video up next week. Abby went out with her friends Brooke & Megan all day. Matt picked her up for me and grabbed Pizza King takeout while he was out. Ann went out with Shawna for an After Prom meeting that lasted all evening. I really should’ve gotten out and mowed the backyard, but instead I stayed inside and watched NASCAR, MLB, NBA, a couple movies and Sunday night cartoons on Fox.

Next up is our video section which includes two new family videos and several from around the net this week.

We had a couple entries this week for the Shit that Luke Says; but this one definitely made us laugh the hardest. On the way home on Sunday from dance competition, Luke says to Ann, “P. U!! Your perfume smells!” Ann quips, “One day you’ll want your girlfriend to smell like this.” To which, Luke reels off, “NO! I’d rather she smells like a hobo!!” 

Next up is our Waybac section. We lead off with a picture of a small child from April of 1951 but I have no idea who it is; next is a great family photo of the Morgan family from 1951, which features Grandpaw & Grandmaw Brown, Uncle Ralph & Aunt Norma, Mom, Brenda & Karen (maybe?), Great Grandma & Grandpa, Uncle Keith and a young man by the name of Carroll Morgan (I’m not sure what the relation is though); Mom in her yard on Elmwood in July of ’52; Grandpaw at the quarry in August of ’52; Aunt Norma & Grandmaw in September of ’52 in Monticello (I think?); a young man named Jimmy Morris (not sure who he is); Carroll again in ’52; Grandpaw’s new car in ’52; Grandpaw smoking his pipe in ’52; Mom at a birthday party in January of ’53; Jimmy again in April of ’53; Grandpaw in the newspaper in January & February in ’58; other police photos in ’58; Uncle Ralph & Aunt Norma during a trip to Cadillac Michigan in May of ’81; then a couple of pictures of our family on the front lawn at Grandmaw & Grandpaw’s house during a visit in August of ’81; Rob & I during a couple of birthday parties at our house in October of ’81; the Goodyear blimp over Market Square in October of 1981; the Morgan family in July of ’82 with Grandmaw & Grandpaw, Ralph & Norma & Great-Grandpa at his home in Attica; Mom’s Christmas dinner in 1982; my ladies – Mom, Ann & Bu – during Christmas morning in 2002; Matt in elementary wrestling February of 2003; Matt’s birthday party in March of 2003; Christmas of 2005 at MaryAnn & Sandy’s house w/ Chad, Dad & Keith; Abby & Luke at home – circa 2005; Mom & Dad participating in Walk for Life in 2005-ish; and Week 19 at the Sand Pebble in May of 2007.
