I don’t Care if the Sun don’t Shine…

Between leaving for work in the dark, leaving work for home in the dark and all the clouds, rain and…yes even snow…the sun has been hard to find here this week. Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog. Matt had his final full week of school before Thanksgiving break. Abby continued with dance and had her first indoor performances this week. Luke focused solely on basketball. Ann continued to struggle with her knees and I continued to fight the battle of the bulge.
We were contacted by the Carousel folks on Monday morning, informing us that Luke had won a gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse due to winning last weekend’s 5K. He had basketball practice that night. Abby had Pirateers practice before heading to jazz class. Ann was really hurting that night. It rained all afternoon and all evening as well so I hopped on the treadmill as Ann made roast for dinner.
Abby had Student Council before school on Tuesday morning. It was still raining on our way in to work and it continued to rain all day and night again. Abby had Pirateers practice after school. I was back on the treadmill as Ann made BBQ chicken for dinner.
It rained all day again on Wednesday. Ann had an MRI on her left knee followed by physical therapy on her right knee. She’s just a mess right now. Turns out she tore her MCL and somehow managed to invert her meniscus…not even sure what that actually means… Abby had ping pong club after school and then went to work at Dixon Dance Studio. Luke went with Drew to work out at the YMCA with Angie. Noah brought Bu home for us and hung out for a while and I hopped back on the treadmill. We have lots of new social media pictures to share this week: Luke & Bu; French support; Luke’s GoPro; People of Wal-mart; Mom O’s new phone; Aunt Sharon in NJ; Katie & Jake out on the town; Kimmy, Lindsay & Haley; Aunt Sally; Tammie; Dana; Rich & Beth; more French support; gas prices have fallen to under $2 this week!; whacky weather prevailed this week – including a double rainbow and a blazing sunset; Bu with Noah and with her friends; mugging with Bryan; our first snow flurries; Calvin & Hobbes panel; and Jenna Coleman departed Dr Who this week after a three year stint.

It finally stopped raining on Thursday. The sun popped out for a few moments behind some very big clouds. I walked from my facility to Ann’s office after work and I wasn’t sure I would remain dry but I did. It was a little chilly but not too bad. We picked up the kids and celebrated Abby’s A on her big Algebra test and Luke scoring all A’s and B’s on his midterms by going to ElRep for dinner. Ann’s knees were particularly sore that night, so it was good for everyone. She did manage to get her Dance Mom thang on that night with Bu and her tap class while Luke & I watched a movie on the big screen.
It was another long day on Friday – this was one of our longest weeks in a while as we prepare for the short work week coming next week. We had Bryan & Angie over for dinner, drinks and cards. Ann made a big pot of chili and some awesome jalapeño dip. We had fun playing euchre and listening to music. I’m not certain, but I think we tied 2-2 on games, so we definitely need to do this again to have a rubber match.
We were up fairly early on Saturday to run Luke to basketball practice. Ann went scrapbooking with Shawna at Mrs. B’s. Abby slept most of the day while Luke & I winterized our lawn equipment and did some outdoor stuff before it started raining again. In fact no sooner had we finished our work, it started to rain again. We even got our first snowfall of the year. It wasn’t much and didn’t last but a few minutes. We grabbed takeout (the McRib is back!) and watched some college football: PU lost again, IU won again and other Big Ten games were really good too. We finally watched Rowdy Rousey lose her title (from last weekend) and we also watched Buescher win his first Busch title. Later we went to the girls’ basketball game vs. Jennings County to watch the halftime show. The Pirateers performed two routines and looked really good in their first appearance in over a month. We will see them quite a bit over the coming few months as they are scheduled to dance at all the boys and girls home games. We came home and got caught up on our DVR’ed shows. Later, I was sad to see Clara was killed off Dr. Who.

We slept in on Sunday morning before getting to our weekly household chores. The dryer wouldn’t start for nearly three hours and we started to initiate our contingency plan. Mom & Sandy were kind to offer their machine for our use. I was fully dressed and had everything packed up when I tried to start it one more time just for shits and giggles…and wouldn’t you know it; the damn thing started. Luke played basketball outside with Oakley before they came in and had Lego-car crash wars and watched the Colts game with Ann & I while Abby slept all day. We didn’t get to watch the whole thing but instead left for Luke’s basketball games. Thankfully we were at home for the first (and likely only) home game of the year. We ended up playing at the elementary school today. The boys played in back-to-back games. First up, they faced Waldron and afterwards played South Decatur. In the first game, the Pirates jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, opening it up by 40 points at one point and eventually winning 61-30. In the second game, it was close in the opening minutes but then the Pirates blew it open to lead by 20 at the half and went on to win big, 54-21. For the day, Luke was 2-2 from the floor with 4 points. He also had 2 assists and 6 fouls, including fouling out in the 2nd game. On defense, he was very busy with 11 rebounds, a steal, 2 blocked shots and 1 forced turnover. After the game, we came home and met up with Abby & Noah for Papa John’s pizzas, football and racing. The Colts and Cowboys both won today. Jeff came in 6th today at the final race of the year. Unfortunately Busch was in front of him and won the championship. Jeff was 3rd overall in this, his final year of racing. It was that #24 car that got me interested in racing and it won’t be the same next year without him. Later we were thrilled to see Glen survived on the TWD.

And our final segment has our videos which features two new home movies and a few from around the internet.

That does it for this week’s episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks as always for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu
