Just Like You…I’m on the Hunt

We have gradually warmed up this week as we enjoyed our first full week of spring. The kids were off for a second week of Spring Break. Abby and Matt seem to have fully healed from their oral surgery now. Luke has enjoyed being off all sports this week. Abby gradually got back in to dance as she prepares for her first competition coming up very soon. Ann’s knees continue to ache and her “hickey??? is beginning to fade from her neck. I somehow pissed off my sciatic nerve, which debilitated me all week and kept me from doing several things. And Mom gradually settled in to her new home and hosted the big Owens family Easter lunch again. Hello and welcome to this week’s installment of the Scheu Family Blog.
We had a beautiful start to the week on Monday morning. It was Matt’s first day back at school but Luke & Abby were off for the second week of Spring Break. They did the chores we left them and then Luke played with neighborhood friends while Abby went tanning. Somehow (and I’m still not sure what the hell happened), I hurt my back. I am assuming it is from this past weekend where I probably overdid it while helping move Mom and then Dee. I was fine until I got in to work. In fact I could hardly walk by the end of the day as it got worse and worse. I tried to walk the People Trail after work but had to cut it short and only made it about 10 minutes. As it turned out, it would be the last time I would even attempt it. Abby went out to dinner with friends and then on to jazz class at Dixon. Afterwards she went out with her teacher and friend, Kyla, to ElRep for a snack. We have a ton of new social media pictures to share this week: Abby and friends; Ms. Megan had a bday this week…as did Ms. Reese; Aunt Sharon & grandkids; Scheu cousins; Paul & Dayla; Ms. Bailey at WDW; Peyton and a cool NASCAR wreck; Calvin & Hobbes Sunday panels; Scheu cousins; Aunt June & grandkids; Gigi at work; Kathy & Jake at WDW: Nathan & fam; the Drakes again; Bryan & I will be coaching again this year – not football though; Scheu girls; Aeschlimans; more Drakes; recent celeb deaths; a couple memes; and Matt at prom a couple years ago.

I was in early to work on Tuesday for our Annual Competency Fair. It was a long day, made longer when Ann’s doc diagnosed my pain as a likely pinched sciatic nerve. The pain does start in my lower back but it shoots in to my butt, around the outside of my hip and down the front of my thigh to my knee. It is unlike anything I have ever experienced in my life. We also had our annual tornado drills that coincided with the state drills – at work in the morning and at home at night. Ann had a haircut with Jami and then an After-Prom meeting with Shawna. I picked up Luke and we moved a couple TVs to Memaw’s new home. Abby went out with Britney and friends until late that evening.
Wednesday was another pretty day. The kids again did their chores that we left for them. My hip was worse that night. Since Abby had the night off from work, Ann made dinner for three that night as Bu was again out with Britney and the boys until late.
It rained on and off a few times and even stormed on Thursday. Abby went tanning again and then ran around with Cody. She and Ann had tap that night. Luke helped Ann make dinner (salmon steaks, friend taters and cuscus) then out to the Y with Drew and then eventually spent the night with him. My hip continued to keep me from walking upright – don’t think it’s getting much better. We lost two notable celebrities today – comedian Gary Shandling & baseball player / announcer Joe Garagiola.
I took day off on Good Friday to rest my hip. I flopped on the couch and watched movies and basketball. Ann also took day off – but it was to do something with the kids for their final day of vacation. Abby worked as Easter Bunny for WTRE that morning. Luke came back from the Messers and then the three of them went out to Cincy to play at Dave & Busters, go shopping and then had dinner at TGI Friday’s. I enjoyed the peace and quiet and my hip felt a little bit better as I stayed off it all day.

We slept in on a cold Saturday morning. The girls got up and went shopping. Luke & I waited till almost noon – when it finally started to warm up – to get outside and fire up our small engine tools so we could do some yard work for the first time this year. I am happy to say that I may finally be getting the hang of it. For the first time in a long time, we actually got everything working by just adding gas & oil. We moved and trimmed the yards. Big thanks to Luke for doing the bulk of the work today. I may have overdone it….OK; definitely overdid it. I was hurting pretty good afterwards. I tried to get ready for our dinner date with Bryan & Angie that night, but I just couldn’t do it and Ann ended up cancelling it. I might actually have to break down and go see a doctor if it isn’t any better on Monday. ??? Drew was supposed to come over and spend the night while we went out but he ended up staying home so Luke rearranged his room again. Ann cooked quite a bit, making stuff for tomorrow’s big lunch at Mom & Sandy’s. Abby was gone all afternoon, popping in only briefly to pick up Molly and took her out with Britney and her dog for a few hours. Lola was not too happy. At some point she picked up Megan and came home to paint her room. Later, they went out with the boys for a few hours and Megan spent the night.
We enjoyed sleeping in on Easter Sunday. The kids got up and went hunting for their Easter baskets. Matt wasn’t home but Megan stood in for him and had her own little basket. We eventually got motivated and did our weekly household chores. Matt came home shortly before we headed over to Mom’s new house for our traditional family lunch and egg hunt. Dee, Jamie & Grace were there as well as Aunt Linda & Uncle Dave and “Grandpa??? Joe. Memaw’s new home is very nice. It’s especially nice for her that it’s on one level. Everybody pitched in this year. We had sandwiches, homemade mac & cheese, baked beans, cheesy hash browns, fruits & veggies, Ann’s spinach & artichoke dip, Ann’s jalapeño dip and new for this year was her grape salad. We watched a movie while Dee & Jamie hid the Easter eggs for the kids out in the yard. The kids took about a half hour to find all the eggs this year. It was a gorgeous day that warmed up near 80! We came home and watched Natural Born Killers (not exactly an Easter movie, huh?). Ann made a very good taco casserole and Abby & Megan picked up Britney to join us for dinner. Matt & I watched #10 seed Syracuse knock off a #1 seed to advance to the Final Four. He had cut his visit short so he could beat the severe weather and head back up to school at U Indy. Thankfully he made it back up before the worst stuff reached him. Abby ran the girls home and made it back before the storm hit. It was a great way to wrap up another quick week…
